The Lord delayeth his coming...

Post by Stephen »

Here are scripture references on the subject of a time when the people will believe that the Lord will "delay His coming"....some are best read in their context which is not included.... (New testament references are basically repeats)

Matt. 24: 48
48 But and if that evil servant shall say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming;

Luke 12: 45
45 But and if that servant say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming; and shall begin to beat the menservants and maidens, and to eat and drink, and to be drunken;

D&C 45: 26
26 And in that day shall be heard of wars and rumors of wars, and the whole earth shall be in commotion, and men’s hearts shall fail them, and they shall say that Christ delayeth his coming until the end of the earth.

JS-M 1: 51
51 But if that evil servant shall say in his heart: My lord delayeth his coming,

2 Peter 3:3-4 3

Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,
4 And saying, Where is the bpromise of his ccoming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.

3 Nephi 1:5-6

5 But there were some who began to say that the time was past for the words to be fulfilled, which were spoken by Samuel, the Lamanite.
6 And they began to rejoice over their brethren, saying: Behold the time is past, and the words of Samuel are not fulfilled; therefore, your joy and your faith concerning this thing hath been vain.

The first scriptures all spoke of the latter day 2nd coming of Christ...and the last is speaking of the birth of Christ (which chapters preceeding and after we have been told contain many types of shadows of events we will experience.)

I was reflecting on this today and asked myself the question..."Do people now say that the Lord delayeth His coming?"...

I thought that perhaps many don't use those exact words...but I think that it is presently happening to some degree through actions and some words.... Here are some examples....

I have spoken to people about food storage and they have said "Hey...my parents AND my grandparents stored tons of food...and it has all spoiled...look what good it did them!" In essence what they are saying is..."They were foolish...they never had to use the food...and I am not going to make the same mistake." "All is well in Zion...Zion prospereth...there is no need to prepare for something that will not come in my lifetime...just as it didn't in my parents and grandparents."

Another popular position is the "People have been believing since the time of Christ that the Lord would be coming any time." In essence saying "People have believed that so long...and they were wrong....if you believe that now...you are also wrong...so just don't think about it".

This talk by RICHARD NEITZEL HOLZAPFEL has some excellent advice as well as an air about it of what I just wrote above.

My question is...are the prophecies of the latter day scorners that say that the Lord delayeth His coming happening even now? Is what is happening now just a taste of what is to come?

Your post seems to leave out the world in general. I think that there is much of this among us now, but suspect that as things progress to a point, people will say, "surely the Lord will come now!" When their predictions give way to more turmoil, they will then fulfill these prophecies and make excuses. I do not think that people understand (especially Christianity in general) how bad it is going to get. Those that do, probably somehow think that it will be short-lived or not so bad for them (since they are good).

Some people are starting to think that way while others are clueless & others believe He's coming very soon. No matter what He will come. I believe He will come in less than 10 years but if that is not the case I will still believe He will come. If it doesn't happen I'll pray & fast to keep my faith in His coming.

This seems to be a very common narrative today.

That is because, what the Bible really teaches. Jesus, the LORD of Host, comes near to judgement at the end of the world. The world is consumed by fire. He keeps us from falling (away) into the fire. He keeps us from the change of state of the creation. He keeps us from the apostasia which must happen first.

Jude 1:23 And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh.

Jude 1:24 Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy,

The day will come people will realize it has been occurring since it began. That in order to save the fish lost at sea the fishermen had to enter the sea with the fish and become one, until the time he gained the power to become a bird, overcoming the waves of the ocean departing out from it into the sun. When it is fulfilled the mystery of the Eternal Round, the whole universe and every world and stars shall be shaken, that is the Day of the Lord the opening, but not the ending yet the closing which is the Day of burning and first resurrection. What mankind does not realize is that it is the Light leaving this universe that brings the final days of darkness, both in spirit and physical manifestation, and it is in that time the Dragon realizes it time is short and acts openly.

If you desire to avoid the fire, then live by what the gospel says, regardless if the rest of the saints are doing so or the leaders, ye must apply it to your own life, for unless you are daily aligned to charity and living it, ye do not know the Father or Son. For if any part of your heart is upon this world then the spirit is hidden from you, for God must be worshiped in Spirit and Truth. He who loves his substance is bound to his substance and shall fall with it. It is not enough for it to be only your time and talents ye must also release your substance unto the needy and poor even as spoken in Mosiah. For this world is the Kingdom of the Beast and ye are mislead if seek happiness within it, for seek only happiness in the things of God kingdom which are Charity, Hope and Faith, and even ye must be willing to give up your own family for God or ye are not worthy to be a disciple of Christ. For are thou greater than Abraham or the disciples whom left family, wife and home who left work and all things behind and served the Lord God unto their death not looking back, has this lesson been missed by the saints because of focusing so much on their own happiness, on their own blessings and exaltation's. For the greatest is the servant of all.

Many members of the Church & other Christians believe that he will come in ten years or more. If He came in 5 years (2025) the scriptural phrase "The Lord delayeth his coming" would have applied to those people because He was coming back before they thought. So I suspect that He will return earlier than most think.
