China is creating a massive "Orwellian" DNA database to build a "harmonious society" — Quartz
In the name of safeguarding its 1.4 billion people, China has been collecting biometric information from millions of people whom it deems potential threats—among them, Uyghurs, migrant workers, and college students—as part of national DNA database.

China’s Ministry of Public Security, which oversees the database, has amassed information for more than 40 million people—the country says it has the world’s biggest database of DNA information (link in Chinese)—as of 2015, according to a report published by Human Rights Watch (HRW) Monday (May 15). For comparison, in the US, the FBI’s national DNA index has 12.7 million offender profiles.

“Mass DNA collection by the powerful Chinese police absent effective privacy protections or an independent judicial system is a perfect storm for abuses,”said Sophie Richardson, China director at HRW. “China is moving its Orwellian system to the genetic level.”

Lawsuit challenges Ohio internet harassment law, claiming it stifles criticism of public officials | cleveland.com
CLEVELAND, Ohio -- A liberal blog and conservative group filed a federal lawsuit Tuesday to challenge an Ohio law passed last year that prohibits internet harassment, saying it's overly broad and infringes on the First Amendment.

The law was passed in April 2016 and went into effect in August. It says "no person shall knowingly post a text or audio statement or an image on an internet web site or web page for the purpose of abusing, threatening or harassing another person." A first-time violation of this law is considered a first-degree misdemeanor.

The lawsuit was filed by the liberal blog Plunderbund, the Portage County Tea Party. Also included as plaintiffs are John Spinelli, who frequently writes for Plunderbund, and Tom Zawistowski, head of the Portage County Tea Party.

Telling women not to drink during pregnancy 'sexist'
Advising women not to drink when pregnant is “sexist” and causes “needless anxiety”, senior academics have said.

Pregnancy charities and researchers have called for a change to the “alarmist” official Government guidelines, which warn expectant mothers to avoid alcohol completely.

They say the policy has no basis in evidence and ends up “stigmatising” women and excluding them from society.

Studies have shown that consistent heavy drinking during pregnancy can result in foetal alcohol syndrome, which can cause physical developmental and learning difficulties.

However, there is not robust evidence that light to moderate drinking, or even one-off episodes of binge drinking, causes any long-term damage.

Conservatives begin to whisper: President Pence - POLITICO
Not since the release of the Access Hollywood tape, in which Donald Trump bragged about groping women by the genitals, have some conservatives thought so seriously, if a bit wistfully, about two words: President Pence.

The scandals clouding Trump’s presidency — including, most recently, his firing of FBI Director James Comey, his alleged leak of classified information to Russian officials, and reports that he urged Comey to drop an investigation into a top aide — have raised once more the possibility that Trump could be pushed aside and replaced by Vice President Mike Pence.

Net Neutrality Supporters Want to 'Ban Drudge'
Alt-left advocates for net neutrality, who say they want a "free and open internet," want to ban the Drudge Report.

Members of the alt-left who have been tied to violent protests in the past picketed outside the Federal Communications Commission on Thursday in protest of Chairman Ajit Pai's proposal to reverse net neutrality rules. The FCC will vote to undue the Obama era Title II rule that classified Internet service providers as utilities, subjecting them to more federal regulation.

Protesters covering their faces held signs that read "Ban Drudge," with a no symbol over the Drudge Report, the highly trafficked news website run by Matt Drudge. Other protesters held signs to ban other news websites, including Breitbart and InfoWars.

George Soros Cash Funding Liberal District Attorneys | The Daily Caller
George Soros has all but bought another district attorney’s seat.

The left-wing billionaire turned the Philadelphia district attorney’s race on its head by giving $1.45 million to fund a super PAC in support of his preferred candidate, Larry Krasner. Krasner, a progressive lawyer who has never worked as a prosecutor, sailed to an easy victory in the Democratic primary on Tuesday. Because Philadelphia is a Democratic stronghold, Krasner’s primary victory all but guarantees him to win the general election in November.

The influx of money from Soros gave Krasner a significant leg up over his opposition. Despite splitting votes with six other candidates, Krasner, who was not a favorite to win before Soros’ investment, finished 18 points ahead of the second-place finisher. As one Philadelphia Inquirer writer put it after the billionaire’s investment: “Soros changed the game.”

Inside the U.S. government’s plans to survive a nuclear war - The Washington Post
In 2011, a staffer at Washingtonian found a government ID in a Metro parking garage and gave it to Garrett M. Graff (the magazine’s editor-in-chief at the time) to track down its owner. “Since I reported about that world, he figured I’d know what to do with it,” Graff says.

Graff immediately noticed something strange.

“The back of the ID had these evacuation instructions on it. And so I got on Google Maps and followed the instructions and they led to a road that very clearly went into the side of a mountain, and you can see on the Google satellite view big concrete bunker doors.”

That discovery inspired Graff to comb through newly declassified documents to learn more about the U.S. government’s plans in the event of a nuclear war or other catastrophe. His research culminated in the new book “Raven Rock: The Story of the U.S. Government’s Secret Plan to Save Itself — While the Rest of Us Die.” (Graff will discuss the book at Politics and Prose on Saturday.)

False-flag chemical weapons attack: Re-play of an old US ploy to smash Syria?
2017-05-08 00:30:48

As the fallout of the April 4th chemical weapons attack in Khan Sheikhun in Syria continues to unfold, contradictory reports on the incident have produced more questions than answers as to what really happened. The only certainty seems to be that sarin or a similar poison was used. This was confirmed by the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons according to Reuters, but OPCW was not mandated to assign blame.
While mainstream media adopt the western world’s group-think that unquestioningly accepts the view that Syrian President Bashar al Assad’s forces were behind the attack and, even without evidence, took it as justification for a unilateral and illegal US airstrike against Syria, multiple reports continue to surface that tell an entirely different story. These reports find no quarter with the big names in the news industry. Viewed collectively they point to the likelihood that the recent chemical weapons incident in Syria is nothing but a replay of an old US-led ploy that was tried earlier to overthrow the Syrian regime. It was the same that unraveled following the chemical weapons attack in Ghouta on August 21, 2013, used as an excuse to prepare a massive strike against Syria that was circumvented at the last minute. In other words they suggest it was a ‘false-flag’ chemical weapons attack, set up by interested parties in order to trigger predictable reactions from an unsuspecting world, which blamed the wrong party. (Incidentally there were false-flag newspaper articles as well - set up so that the wrong party got the credit!).

In the aftermath of the incident, statements by multiple commentators including some shocked ex-CIA officers, have cast serious doubt over the plausibility of the version presented by the Trump administration, that too quickly claimed to have a ‘high degree of confidence’ that Assad was behind the horrific incident that killed scores last month. Many analysts observed that the US narrative made no sense since Assad had no motive to carry out such an attack, risking the political, military and diplomatic gains he had made in the recent past. Comments from the intelligence community reflect the view that Trump was manipulated into going along with false intelligence. He sidelined his own intelligence officials, it turns out, and excluded CIA Director Mike Pompeo from a crucial decision making meeting. Pompeo had identified the attack as false-flag and briefed Trump that Assad was most likely not responsible. But Trump was trumped, by the neocon hawks who are increasingly gaining the upper hand in his administration it appears.

In 2013 following a spate of chemical weapon attacks reported in Syria, Carla del Ponte, a member of the UN Commission of Inquiry told Swiss-Italian TV that evidence pointed to the opposition rebels, not government authorities, having used sarin gas. After the major attack in Ghouta in August 2013, Theodore Postol, Emeritus Professor of Science Technology and National Security Policy at MIT, along with UN weapons expert Richard Lloyd co-authored a report which meticulously laid out scientific evidence showing how “the mistaken intelligence could have led to an unjustified US military action based on false intelligence.”

In his assessment of the White House Report on Khan Sheikhun, Postol recalling how the previous White House Report on Ghouta was partly fabricated and had not been vetted by competent intelligence experts, states that the current Report is similarly flawed.

“I believe it can be shown, without doubt, that the document does not provide any evidence whatsoever that the US government has concrete knowledge that the government of Syria was the source of the chemical attack in Khan Shaykhun,” Postol wrote in his assessment dated April 11th. The main piece of evidence cited in the document points to an attack that was executed by individuals on the ground and not from an aircraft, he said, adding that the Report has ‘absolutely no evidence to show the attack was the result of munitions being dropped from an aircraft.’
Ex-CIA officer Philip Giraldi’s remarks on the Scott Horton Show two days after the incident but before the US airstrike show that the intelligence was available, pointing in a direction other than that which was adopted by the White House.
“(The intelligence sources) are coming back and telling us that that they are astonished at how this is being played by the administration and by the US media and in some cases people are considering going public” Giraldi said. “These are sources that are on active duty there and seen the intelligence that the US government has about what happened in Syria, and the intelligence indicates that it was not an attack by the Syrian government using chemical weapons.” He faulted the media who, instead of waiting for the evidence, went immediately to the material that was provided by the opposition, accepting it as fact.

Peter Ford, former UK ambassador to Syria was prophetic when he appeared on BBC4 on April 7; the day of the US airstrike, to say that ‘possibly they are looking for a pretext to attack Syria.’ “Assad may be cruel, brutal, but he is not mad” he said. “It defies belief that he would bring this on his head - with no military advantage.” Trump has given the jihadists a thousand reasons to stage fake-flag operations he added, “Seeing how easy it is with a gullible media to provoke the West into intemperate reactions.... Mark my words it will happen. Then the war mongers will come telling us Assad is defying us, we have to go in more heavily into Syria – fake-flag.”

Ex-CIA agent (Marine Corps) Robert Steele, basing his comments on ‘inside sources he absolutely trusts,’ alleged that the Khan Sheikhun false-flag was planned by Senator John McCain, former CIA Director John Brennan and National Security Advisor Herbert McMaster. Steele expressed misgivings that Trump’s son-in-law and advisor Jared Kushner may be a Mossad agent. In an interview online he said the false-flag was ‘an act of treason’ planned in the United States and funded by Saudi Arabia and Israel. “They split the cost.”

Interestingly, the reference to John Brennan and the Saudis also comes up in other reports, from totally different sources, relating to the 2013 chemical weapons attack in Ghouta. Brennan was CIA Director at the time. A report by Christof Lehmann set out circumstances that pointed to the involvement of Brennan and Saudi Intelligence Chief Prince Bandar. The opposition insurgents had suffered a major setback in Jobar, and a chemical attack would allow the US, UK and France to call for military strikes and to turn the tide in the war, he said. Bandar had met Russian President Vladimir Putin in the Kremlin in a bid to win his support for Assad’s ouster, and told Putin he expected a US-led military intervention to come soon, suggesting foreknowledge of what was to come, Lehman said. Given the ‘close relations’ between Bandar and Brennan, he concluded that ‘top-level White House executives, including President Obama’ had the same foreknowledge.

"Recent chemical weapons incident in Syria is nothing but a replay of an old US-led ploy that was tried earlier to overthrow the Syrian regime"

Hillary Clinton’s leaked emails on Wikileaks indicate that destroying Syria has long been part of the US game plan in the Middle East. “The best way to help Israel deal with Iran’s growing nuclear capability is to help the people of Syria overthrow the regime of Bashar al Assad,” she wrote in 2012. “......“With his life and his family at risk, only the threat or use of force will change the Syrian dictator Bashar al Assad’s mind.” Following the violent NATO-backed overthrow of Libyan leader Muammar al Gaddafi in 2011, the US is believed to have run a ‘rat line’ that smuggled weapons from Gaddafi’s arsenal through Turkey into Syria. Details of it were reported by top investigative journalist Seymour Hersh. He said that the Senate Intelligence Committee report on the attack on the US consulate in Benghazi in September 2012, in which US ambassador Chris Stevens was killed, described “a secret agreement reached in early 2012 between the Obama and Erdoğan administrations” pertaining to the rat line. “By the terms of the agreement, funding came from Turkey, as well as Saudi Arabia and Qatar; the CIA, with the support of MI6, was responsible for getting arms from Gaddafi’s arsenals into Syria.” Hersh didn’t say whether the arms included the precursor chemicals for making sarin, but there have been other reports that Gaddafi possessed such stockpiles. Washington abruptly ended the CIA’s role in the transfer of arms from Libya after the attack on the consulate, but the rat line kept going, Hersh said.

The most recent western report blaming Assad for the Khan Sheikhun attack has come from French intelligence sources. While Hersh’s reportage tends to undermine the French report’s assertion that jihadist groups did not possess sarin and could not have launched the attack, its conclusion - that Assad was the perpetrator - hinged on the finding that the samples it obtained contained hexamine, which it said was “a hallmark of sarin produced by the Syrian government.”

‘Washington’sblog.com’ inquired from Ake Sellstrom, the Swedish chemical weapons expert who headed the United Nations’ team investigating the possible use of chemical warfare in Syria, about the credibility of these conclusions. Dr. Sellstrom’s response was that “It is really a question of the meaning of the word indicating. The presence of hexamine could, indeed, indicate that the source is the government. Leaving out who actually used it. But it could also indicate a lot of other things, like someone using the same recipe for example.” (Washington’sblog.com – 28.04.17)

After the 2013 false-flag chemical attack in Ghouta, Obama had to abandon the plan to launch a massive strike against Syria owing to lack of public support. The crisis was defused thereafter with a Russian brokered deal where Syria agreed to destroy all its chemical weapons and production facilities. According to the Russians, this was done between 2013 – 2016. The irony is, as Hersh remarked with prescience back in December 2013, that “after Assad’s stockpile of precursor agents is destroyed, al-Nusra and its Islamist allies could end up as the only faction inside Syria with access to the ingredients that can create sarin, a strategic weapon that would be unlike any other in the war zone.”

Venezuelan seniors want to die of old age, not hunger | Miami Herald
CARACAS, VENEZUELA
When Venezuela launched a program in 2011 to extend retirement benefits to all seniors —whether they had paid into the pension system or not — it was praised throughout the region for its generosity. The late President Hugo Chávez hailed the initiative, called the “Mission of Greater Love,” as one of the victories of his 21st century socialism.

Six years later, however, few seniors seem to be feeling that love, as skyrocketing inflation, failing hospitals and the lack of even basic medicine have made them critically vulnerable amid a continuing crisis.

Gender-neutral birth certificates could be issued in Ontario by 2018
Currently, the province offers gender-neutral options for drivers’ licenses and health cards but not for birth certificates.

Gender-neutral birth certificates could be issued in Ontario as early as next year, provided the province can work out bureaucratic hurdles involving other governments.

Ontario’s minister of government and consumer services said Thursday consultations will be held on the matter this summer and the province is working to ensure a gender-neutral birth certificate would be legally recognized in other jurisdictions.

Tracy MacCharles said she’s hopeful Ontario can issue gender-neutral birth certificates by 2018.

MacCharles said she’s asked the ministry to reach out to Joshua M. Ferguson — an Ontario-born filmmaker who applied last week to have a change of sex designation on their birth certificate from male to non-binary — a term used to define someone who doesn’t identify with either gender. The minister said she knows the issue is important to the trans and non-binary community.

Ferguson, who wants to be referred to by the gender-neutral pronouns “they/them/their,” said they’re pleased to see the government moving forward on the issue.

AI can doctor videos to put words in the mouths of speakers | New Scientist
Artificial intelligence can put words right into your mouth. A new system takes a still image of a person and an audio clip, and uses them to create a doctored video of the person speaking the audio. The results are still a little rough around the edges, but the software could soon make realistically fake videos only a single click away.

It works by first identifying facial features using face-recognition algorithms. As the audio clip plays, the system then manipulates the mouth of the person in the still image so that it looks as if they are speaking. Very little pre-processing is required, so all of this can be done in real time.

A Quarter Of American Adults Can't Pay All Their Monthly Bills; 44% Have Less Than $400 In Cash | Zero Hedge
There was some good news and some not so good news in the Fed's latest annual Report on the Economic Well-Being of U.S. Households.

First the good news.

The report, based on the Board's fourth annual Survey of Household Economics and Decision making conducted in October 2016, presents a "picture of improving financial well-being among Americans", at least according to the report (read on to see if this is merited). Overall, 70% of the more than 6,600 respondents said they were either "living comfortably" or "doing okay," up 1% from 2015 and up 8% from the first survey results in 2013.

Wi-Fi can be used to photograph rooms through walls - Business Insider
Wi-Fi can pass through walls.

This fact is easy to take for granted, yet it's the reason we can surf the web using a wireless router located in another room.

But not all of that microwave radiation makes it to (or from) our phones, tablets, and laptops. Routers scatter and bounce their signal off objects, illuminating our homes and offices like invisible light bulbs.

Now, German scientists have found a way to exploit this property to take holograms, or 3D photographs, of objects inside a room — from outside it.

Universal health care cost in California $400 billion a year | The Sacramento Bee
The price tag is in: It would cost $400 billion to remake California’s health insurance marketplace and create a publicly funded universal heath care system, according to a state financial analysis released Monday.

California would have to find an additional $200 billion per year, including in new tax revenues, to create a so-called “single-payer” system, the analysis by the Senate Appropriations Committee found. The estimate assumes the state would retain the existing $200 billion in local, state and federal funding it currently receives to offset the total $400 billion price tag.

'Winged' snake species from 5 million years ago discovered
GRAY, Tenn. (AP) — A new species of snake that lived roughly 5 million years ago has been discovered at a fossil site in Tennessee.

A study published in the Journal of Herpetology says the snake has been named Zilantophis schuberti, which roughly translates to "Schubert's Winged Snake."

The snake is named in part after Blaine Schubert, the executive direct of the Gray Fossil Site where the discovery was made.

Steven Jasinski, lead author of the study, and co-author David Moscato, were students of Schubert's.

Jasinski says the snake didn't have wings, but what makes it different is that its vertebrae have pronounced projections toward the front of its body.

The Gray Fossil Site is one of the richest fossil localities in the United States.

Thanks for posting this, mes. This 14 minute video convinces me we are closer to the end than I thought – as I don’t believe the Lord will allow things to get very far into the scenarios proposed by these people (and we’re well on our way right now, in 2017). He will preach his own sermons to stop it, methinks. But, who knows.

Oh, and calling it "the race to the bottom of the brain stem" - perfect.

I find this interesting. Rich people employee artificial intelligence to wage financial war in the stock market, each trying to get a bigger cut of the pie than their rival. With the way robotics is going, unless God intervenes, we will see actual wars fought over real estate to see who can control the most of the chessboard (world).

Citigroup Inc. doesn’t think its richer customers will drop their high-priced money managers in favor of automated investing, but Betterment LLC is betting it can prove the big bank wrong.

The robo-adviser—the largest among independent digital advice startups that popped up after the 2008 financial collapse—has overhauled its entire brand. The shift in marketing and advertising strategy is aimed at attracting more affluent customers just now becoming aware of the option. It’s also not a coincidence that Betterment’s pivot comes as more traditional players such as Vanguard Group Inc., Charles Schwab Corp., and even JPMorgan Chase & Co. are starting to use more technology when offering investment advice.

Hannity signals imminent end of Fox News Channel program | | Media Equalizer
After a two decade run, is the end of Sean Hannity’s Fox News Channel program near?
Based on unusually strong hints from the host himself, the answer appears to be yes.
Under internal pressure over his pursuit of the truth behind the Seth Rich story, network suits are apparently closing in on one of the network’s remaining conservative holdouts.
In his opening segment tonight, Hannity told viewers, “I promise that I will continue to tell the truth. As for my future at Fox News, Media Matters is attacking. The Left is organizing an advertising boycott. I will continue to do my job to the best of my ability. I serve at the pleasure of Fox News.”

Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz threatened the chief of the U.S. Capitol Police with “consequences” for holding equipment that she says belongs to her in order to build a criminal case against a Pakistani staffer suspected of massive cybersecurity breaches involving funneling sensitive congressional data offsite.

The Florida lawmaker used her position on the committee that sets the police force’s budget to press its chief to relinquish the piece of evidence Thursday, in what could be considered using her authority to attempt to interfere with a criminal investigation.

A new element has been discovered: Pelosium . The densest atomic particle yet discovered. Here is the article, though I don't have a link to the source. Still, it's entirely believable.
BREAKING NEWS!!

A major research institution has just announced the discovery of the densest element yet known to science. The new element has been named Pelosium. The chemical symbol of Pelosium is Pu. Pelosium has one neutron, 12 assistant neutrons, 75 deputy neutrons, and 224 assistant deputy neutrons, giving it an atomic mass of 311. These particles are held together by dark particles called morons, which are surrounded by vast quantities of lepton-like particles called peons.

Pelosium’s mass actually increases over time, as morons randomly interact with various elements in the atmosphere and become assistant deputy neutrons within the Pelosium molecule, leading to the formation of isodopes. This characteristic of moron-promotion leads some scientist to believe that Pelosium is formed whenever morons reach a certain quantity in concentration. This hypothetical quantity is referred to as Critical Morass.
When catalyzed with money, Pelosium activates MSNBCobnoxium and CNNadnausium, both elements that radiate orders of magnitude more energy, albeit as incoherent noise, since they have half as many peons but twice as many morons as Pelosium.

Since it has no electrons, Pelosium is inert. However, it can be detected chemically as it impedes every reaction it comes in contact with. According to the discoverers, a minute amount of Pelosium causes one reaction to take over four days to complete when it would have normally occurred in less than a second. In the presense of anti-morons, Pelosium can be extremely corrosive. Botox seems to distort and smooth it's surface, without impeding it's ongoing decay.

Pelosium has a normal half-life of approximately two years, at which time it does not decay, but instead undergoes a transmutation, appearing in a new location but displaying the same properties. In this process, assistant neutrons, vice neutrons and assistant vice neutrons exchange places. Some studies have shown that the atomic mass actually increases after each transmutation.

Research at other laboratories indicates that Pelosium occurs naturally in the atmosphere. It tends to concentrate at certain points such as government agencies, large corporations, universities, and anywhere there is news coverage occurring. It can usually be found in the newest, best appointed, and best maintained buildings.

Scientists point out that Pelosium is known to be toxic at any level of concentration and can easily destroy any productive reaction where it is allowed to accumulate. Attempts are being made to determine how Pelosium can be controlled to prevent irreversible damage, but results to date are not promising.
