Australian Teacher Quits After Islamic Students Threaten to Behead Her | Heat Street
Teachers at a primary school in Sydney, Australia have been threatened with beheading and other violence from young Islamic students, prompting one of them to quit her job.

Students as young as those in Year 5, according to the Daily Telegraph, are making the violent threats and pressuring others to read the Koran at Punchbowl Public School in Sydney.

Documents given to the newspaper allege that three staff members have taken a leave of absence owing to stress, received counselling and been awarded compensation after bullying from Islamic students.

One female teacher reportedly quit her job after it got too much for her. She claims she quit after receiving death threats to her family from her year 5 and 6 students, with some saying they would behead her.

Mass Hack of Cell Phones Ensnares Washington, D.C., Area
An unusual amount of highly suspicious cellphone activity in the Washington, D.C., region is fueling concerns that a rogue entity is surveying the communications of numerous individuals, likely including U.S. government officials and foreign diplomats, according to documents viewed by the Washington Free Beacon and conversations with security insiders.

A large spike in suspicious activity on a major U.S. cellular carrier has raised red flags in the Department of Homeland Security and prompted concerns that cellphones in the region are being tracked. Such activity could allow pernicious actors to clone devices and other mobile equipment used by civilians and government insiders, according to information obtained by the Free Beacon.

It remains unclear who is behind the attacks, but the sophistication and amount of time indicates it could be a foreign nation, sources said.

More broadly, 59 per cent of those polled said they did not feel safe anywhere, with almost one in four (24 per cent) opting to “strongly agree” with the statement.

The following are excerpts from the 16 March World Affairs Brief that focus on the Mid-East.
Fwd'd by Lundbæk

"Trump is told by numerous neocon advisors, before and after the election, that Iran is the real problem, the “number one terrorist supporting nation,” even though it’s a lie. US and British intelligence, colluding with Israel, are the number one terror sponsors in the world. They created al Qaeda, ISIS and all the Syrian rebels, none of which are moderate. In fact, new evidence appeared this week from Iranian and Iraqi sources that documented how US special operations helicopters rescued two ISIS commanders from the battle for Mosul and transferred them deeper into Syria.

"It is no wonder that Iran and Iraq are being targeted by globalists. They, along with the Russians, know that the US is secretly supporting terror, for conflict creation purposes. Iran is being targeted for blowing the whistle on US duplicity and because it has its own weapons industry and thus is the only Middle East nation capable of countering the globalist intervention in Syria.

"What this suppressed report above also indicates is that the dark side of government has control of certain US Special Forces troops and helicopters and are still operating even though the President of the United States has not authorized these operations in support of ISIS, and is ignorant about them. Of course, he only knows what his briefers tell him and what he reads on the internet in the early morning hours. Apparently he missed this story or he would be hopping mad. Naturally, if he did read it and brought it up to his advisors, they dismiss the story as Iranian and Iraqi propaganda. Still the stories persist because they are true.
US and British intelligence, colluding with Israel, are the number one terror sponsors in the world. They created al Qaeda, ISIS and all the Syrian rebels, none of which are moderate Eventually, Russia intends to strike the West more broadly and establish their own version of a globalist government, which won’t be good either.

"Trump has authorized more Special Forces in both Yemen and Syria, which the Syrian government rightly opposes. No nation has the right to invade the territory of another unless threatened directly by that nation. If the US claims to be helping to fight ISIS in Syria, they should have no trouble getting permission. Sadly, that isn’t the real goal."

Idaho boy injured, family dog killed by government 'cyanide bomb'
SALMON, Idaho (Reuters) - A "cyanide bomb" planted by U.S. predator-control agents targeting coyotes near homes and hiking trails in Idaho exploded when a boy handled the device, injuring him and killing his dog, authorities and relatives said on Friday.

Canyon Mansfield, 14, was playing with his yellow Labrador retriever, Casey, on Thursday afternoon near his home east of Pocatello when he saw what he thought was a sprinkler head on the ground and touched the device, causing it to detonate.

The explosion sprayed the boy and his 3-year-old, 90-pound (40 kg) pet with toxic cyanide gas, according to the boy's mother, Theresa Mansfield.

With friends like these: Trump struggles to win GOP
WASHINGTON (AP) — Congressional Republicans have a lot to say about their new president.

Donald Trump's proposed budget is "draconian, careless and counterproductive." The health care plan is a bailout that won't pass. And his administration's suggestion that former President Barack Obama used London's spy agency for surveillance is simply "inexplicable."

With friends like these, who needs Democrats?

MormonLeaks attorney threatens legal action against LDS Church | Deseret News
SALT LAKE CITY — A group that promises anonymity to those who leak internal LDS Church documents has hired an attorney who has threatened the church with rarely successful legal action.

Two weeks ago, the manager of the intellectual property office of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints sent a notice on March 1 that MormonLeaks had posted copyrighted church material from a presentation made to members of the church's Quorum of the Twelve Apostles and other leaders. The church sent the notice to MormonLeaks and, apparently, to the owners of docdroid.net, which removed the material.

On Tuesday, MormonLeaks re-posted the copyrighted church presentation and Las Vegas-based attorney Marc J. Randazza sent the church a letter saying that he now represents MormonLeaks, which he termed a "journalistic resource."

Multnomah County offers incentives for homeowners to house homeless in backyards | OregonLive.com
With more than $300,000 and volunteer homeowners, Multnomah County has a new idea to fight homelessness: Build tiny houses in people's backyards and rent them out to families with children now living on the street.

The homeowners would pay nothing for the construction. They would become landlords and maintain the units for homeless families for five years.

Then the tiny houses would become theirs to do with what they want. If the homeowners break the contract before then, they pay the cost of construction.

The project would put the 8-month-old joint homeless office - a shared effort between the county and Portland -- in the housing business while offering an innovative, if so far small-scale, way to chip away at Portland's affordable housing shortage.

School children 'should be taught to recognise fake news’ | The Independent
“Distinguishing what is true from what is not true is a critical skill today,” he said.

“Exposing fake news, even being aware that there is something like fake news, that there is something that is written that is not necessarily true, that you have to question, think critically. That is very important.

Mini-nukes and inspect bot weapons being primed for future warfare
Several countries are developing nanoweapons that could unleash attacks using mini-nuclear bombs and insect-like lethal robots.

While it may be the stuff of science fiction today, the advancement of nanotechnology in the coming years will make it a bigger threat to humanity than conventional nuclear weapons, according to an expert. The U.S., Russia and China are believed to be investing billions on nanoweapons research.

"Nanobots are the real concern about wiping out humanity because they can be weapons of mass destruction," said Louis Del Monte, a Minnesota-based physicist and futurist. He's the author of a just released book entitled "Nanoweapons: A Growing Threat To Humanity."

Lawyer: Police Are Using Facebook To Track Gun Supporters | The Daily Caller
A lawyer says law enforcement in Dearborn, Mich., conducted a “political witch hunt” after his clients were arrested for carrying firearms into a police station.

Brandon Vreeland, 40, and James Baker, 24, were arrested Feb. 5 after the younger one, clad with a black ski mask, walked into the police department with a short-barreled rifle strapped to his chest, and a semi-automatic pistol tied to his waist, according to the Detroit Free Press.

Vreeland left his gun in the car so he could videotape the encounter as an experiment to see if police would respect the Second Amendment rights of the U.S. Constitution. Both have previously said they are legal gun owners, and that Michigan law allows them to carry their weapon openly, including in a police station.

The men allege that police knew of their arrival because of a fake Facebook account that was used to track their activities. Officers reportedly had their guns drawn before Baker and Vreeland reached the precinct.

CBO Analyst: Higher Taxes and Government Programs Decrease Incentive to Work
When a worker's after-tax income declines due to higher taxes, that person has a reduced incentive to work, a Congressional Budget Office analyst explained.

"When workers' earnings rise but their after-tax income rises less—because of increases in their income and payroll taxes or declines in their benefits from government programs—their incentive to work typically declines," said Shannon Mok, an analyst for the budget office in the tax analysis division.

A New McCarthyism in Hollywood? | Hollywood Reporter
In an astonishing reversal of Hollywood history, just as liberals here once considered themselves an endangered species, so do conservatives today. They no longer are free to talk in the open, because they feel — rightly — we’re no longer prepared to listen, any more than they're prepared to listen to liberals. There's deafness on both sides.

Tim Allen made headlines this week when he groused: “You gotta be real careful around here. You get beat up if you don’t believe what everybody else believes. This is like ’30s Germany.” It's nothing like Nazi Germany, and he undermines his point by so exaggerating it — but there's some truth to what he says.

Think I’m wrong? Imagine what Mel Gibson or Vince Vaughn must have felt at the Golden Globes. I couldn’t help wondering how the crowd would have reacted if they had spoken out instead of Meryl Streep. While she was given an ovation, they’d have been booed off the stage.

And that worries me. Because nobody should be afraid to speak. Freedom of speech means freedom for all, for our opponents as well as ourselves.

True, there’s no rule of law that says speech isn’t allowed. But censorship and self-censorship are two sides of the same coin, and once we accept one, the other is sure to follow.

Chuck Schumer calls for chaos | New York Post
It’s right out of Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol”: The ghost of Chuck Schumer past issuing a dire warning to today’s Senate minority leader.

Back in 2013, recall, a GOP effort to defund ObamaCare in a federal spending bill led to a 16-day shutdown of the federal government. Democrats were irate (as they always are when Republicans advance their policies), and none more so than Schumer, who explained how his party was above the fray.

“You know,” he said on ABC’s “This Week,” “we could do the same thing on immigration reform. We believe strongly in immigration reform. We could say, ‘We’re shutting down the government, we’re not gonna raise the debt ceiling, until you pass immigration reform.’ ”

But, he added ominously, “it would be government chaos.”

Well, guess what: It’s 2017, and Chuck Schumer is now threatening to shut down the federal government over, among other issues, immigration reform.

On Health Law, G.O.P. Faces a Formidable Policy Foe: House Republicans - The New York Times
WASHINGTON — Halfway through Congress’s 2013 summer recess, a letter landed on the desks of House Republican leaders demanding a new strategy to fight “one of the largest grievances in our time.” Give Congress the option to defund the Affordable Care Act, it said, or risk shutting down the government.

Republican leaders condemned the idea, and the 80 House Republicans who signed the letter acquired a nickname, courtesy of the conservative commentator Charles Krauthammer — the “suicide caucus.” But it wasn’t long before a bitter disagreement over the health care law snarled budget negotiations and resulted in a disruptive government shutdown that lasted 16 days. Republicans took the blame.

Three and a half years later, the letter’s recipients — John A. Boehner, then the House speaker, and Representative Eric Cantor of Virginia, the majority leader at the time — are gone, casualties of the take-no-prisoners conservatism it espoused.

Wiping out crime: face-scanners placed in public toilet to tackle loo roll theft | World news | The Guardian
One of Beijing’s busiest public toilets is fighting the scourge of toilet paper theft through the use technology – giving out loo roll only to patrons who use a face scanner.

The automated facial recognition dispenser comes as a response to elderly residents removing large amounts of toilet paper for use at home.

Now, those in need of paper must stand in front of a high-definition camera for three seconds, after removing hats and glasses, before a 60cm ration is released.

Real-life Robocops will soon replace human police
Robot police were once sci-fi fantasy, but soon the real thing will be patrolling the streets of Dubai.

While the original RoboCop from the 1987 film, a superhuman cyborg law enforcer, could hunt down murderous criminals, the real-life version will be tackling more straightforward misdemeanours.

Exclusive: Almost half of Canadians want illegal border crossers deported - Reuters poll | Reuters
Nearly half of Canadians want to deport people who are illegally crossing into Canada from the United States, and a similar number disapprove of how Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is handling the influx, according to a Reuters/Ipsos opinion poll released on Monday.

A significant minority, four out of 10 respondents, said the border crossers could make Canada "less safe," underlining the potential political risk for Trudeau's Liberal government.

The increasing flow of hundreds of asylum-seekers of African and Middle Eastern origin from the United States in recent months has become a contentious issue in Canada.

Jeff Bezos looks a little too happy piloting a giant mechanical robot - The Verge
Add this to the growing pile of evidence the world is slowly transitioning into a sci-fi dystopia: a billionaire entrepreneur with a sideline in building space rockets has been showing off by piloting a 13-foot-tall robot.

Amazon CEO and fifth richest person in the world Jeff Bezos got behind the wheel (well, dual joysticks) of the bot at the retailing giant’s annual robotics conference. He tweeted out the picture above earlier this morning saying, “I just got to pilot an awesome (and huge) robot thanks to Hankook Mirae Technology.” Other attendees videoed the event, and Bezos can be seen waving around the robot’s arms and asking: “Why do I feel so much like Sigourney Weaver?” Reports that he then told the crowd to “bow down before your new king and master, Metal Jeff” are unsubstantiated.
