What does "deactivating" an LDSFF account do?

I was checking out the help section and noticed that an LDSFF account can be deactivated or deleted, what does deactivating an account do?

It is possible an administrator has deactivated or deleted your account for some reason. Also, many boards periodically remove users who have not posted for a long time to reduce the size of the database.

I have a combative and singular focused personality. Couple that with the fact that almost all discussion on here end in nowhere so a lot of the time it feels pretty pointless to me.

Maybe 6 months ago, I really don't remember, I sent creator a message asking him to delete my account. I guess he didn't.
Shawn then reached out to me and I came back.

I like what this is a lot. However, it is terribly frustrating as well.

Also if a user is banned I will typically deactivate the account.

This prevents a user from being able to login again.

Don’t be so sure that discussions lead nowhere and feel pointless. I for one see it as a great space to freely express myself, often with the intention to work things out in my own mind. It also gives us opportunity to work charitably with others opinions, its like a practice arena for it, a lot of times we are bad at it, but that’s half the fun,

When I was A Random Phrase and couldn't break the LDSFF habit, I asked the creator of the forum to delete my account but keep all of my posts for continuity's sake. He did. (Then someone on here, who did not have my email address, asked about me, so I came back with this iteration, and now I'm stuck again. )

I think if an account is deleted, you can't go to the user page, but if it's only deactivated, maybe you can? (I haven't read any of the replies to you, so maybe your question has been already answered much better than I could answer it.)
