Has the Republican Party been rendered obsolete?

Post by SpeedRacer »

Living in VA I see candidates like George Allen being put up on the stump against a near worthless opponent. George Allen is the least exciting candidate in history. So the republicans lose. Akon is kept on the ballot and Loses. Scott Brown loses to a known liar in Mass.

These are the easy ones. Then we get to president. There is simply no comparrison between the resumes of Obama and Romney. No sane employer on earth would take Obama. However our country did.

So where does this leave republicans?

Now my issue. I want to vote conservative without "wasting" my vote. How do we create a new party, or take over the leadership in the Republican party and transform it?

While it may not matter, this all may be over in four years anyhow.

Start with stopping to alienate hispanics.

This sounds clique, but my best friend is hispanic, and is a staunch republican. He says a large portion of hispanics are democrats because of JFK. There have been few presidential candidates closer to JFK than Romney. Romney was just faithful to his wife.

Is this off base? Is an effort to stem illegal immigration and enforce laws in this country alienating? I truly want to know.

Short answer, yes. Long answer, most Hispanics know people personally that would be affected by deportation and therefore take the issue personally. Honestly, most illegal immigrants I have met have been among the hardest working people I know. If the republicans what to stay relevant they are going to have to make peace with this. Hispanics are an otherwise natural fit for the party.

Well, the tea party made illegal immigration a front-and-center issue. When the GOP co-opted the tea party, it seems the immigration issue is the only issue they latched onto. Consequently, this one issue served to alienate almost the entire Latino demographic.

The media told us last night that the married, white, Christian or WASP has fallen and has no more national political power in this country. The media told us that Obama won by appealing to blacks, Latinos, single women, and college-age voters.

With the expanding minority and dependent demographics, and the liberalized youth who suppprt gay marriage and abortion, this election may have marked the end of any national political power of the traditional American Christian family.

The traditional American Christian family may no longer be able to determine the the political course of this nation. 2012 differs from 2008 because married whites helped Obama win. This time Obama won purely on the backs of minorities, single women and college-age voters.

Gad,
you are an honorable knowledgable person. I as yet have not heard any solution to the illegal immigration issue that is workable and compassionate to those affected. I heard one comment by Romney that he would make it easier to become citizens, but with no further explaination. I sorrow over how the issue is treated, but would ask you, in your wisdom what can be done that those children of our Heavenly Father do not have to be taken advantage of and live in fear for themselves and their children. Do you have an answer?

True, but also the lesser of two evils means LESS evil (and the opportunity for MORE good to occur)....

IMO, party doesn't matter. It will be informed and patriotic Elders of the church and righteous people in this country that will step forth and save the constitution when it is on the verge of complete destruction...so goes the prophecy. And God will take care of the wickedness of the people when they are ripe for destruction.

A bunch of people show up in your land looking for a better life and to escape oppression. Our answer, exploit, abuse and criminalize them. Nephite's answer (during one of their moments of righteousness) - give them a land of their own and support them - even so far as to protect them when they had religious obligations that prevented their military service. (See Anti-Nephi Lehis)

I suggest the Book of Mormon response. I suggest that we have that story in part as an example for this very situation. I suggest that many in the church treat the book lightly.

Or maybe Mosiah 4:17. Do not let the beggar perish. The only excuse for not giving to the beggar is that you do not have enough... well we have plenty. We would have even more if we relied on the Lord for our defense instead of our own arms.

But don't we have to be righteous enough as a people in order to qualify for the lord's divine intervention and protection?

Yup.

So since we are a wicked, idolatrous, bloodthirsty people, I propose that we bury our weapons of war, every single one, and vow to never pick them up again. And then we suffer death instead of breaking that vow.

Then, maybe, they will be clean of the blood of the innocents we have shed.

The Republicans are part of the problem. The party is controlled by Gadianton's. There is no 'fixing' or 'transforming' it. This is akin to asking how we can infiltrate Babylon and change it from the inside out... well, you don't. You call people out of babylon (out of the false right/left paradigm) and into Zion - and act based on correct principles. You realize that not voting for principles and freedom is putting your salvation at jeopardy. We, all of us, all of you, must wake up, and then wake up again! Repent. Stop building up the Secret Combinations.

To the question...no. The R's and D's are basically the same. The far right and the far left are both for socialism in one way or another. Both have shifted to the left leaving the consecutive s fluttering in the breeze. One day Christ will be our anchor.

I think this is occurring.

Current Republican leadership is very hard to distinguish from Democratic leadership and break their own rules to disenfranchise legitimate candidates such as Ron Paul. Those in the Republican party who attempt to stand on principle are shredded by the media and their 'moderate' associates.

However in recent years as the left implements a more and more transparent socialist agenda elements within our society are more assertively pushing a liberal as in libertarian agenda. I don't think this movement will go away nor will they be able to continue to ignore it. Either the Republican party will split which I think even the leadership will acknowledge they cannot afford to do, or they will eventually have to embrace this change. (imho)

FWIW post mortem McCain was for flat out amnesty and only did a little better than Romney. We could offer free citizenship at the border and still lose the Hispanic vote.

It doesn't matter, this country is finished after the last election.

Historic borrowing costs post WWII are 6%, we now pay 1.25% for debt. When we return to historic borrowing costs the interest on the debt will be 50% of the budget.

If spending were to return to historic average as a % of GDP (from the current 24% to 20) it would probably be the largest recession in our history.

We are currently at 105% debt to GDP, we are heading to 140% by the end of Obama's term, probably higher, with our borrowing needs increasing with each passing year.

Invest in the pine box industry. It's gonna boom.

There are no longer constituencies to support the Republican Party, in any form.

If the report on the following website is anything close to accurate, the GOP is done.
