Re: DISCOVERINGTHEWORDOFWISDOM.COM
I had no idea about the extent to which this has been spreading among the Saints. Here is an interactive map of LDS people living near you that are studying and/or living this. It appears that there are a great many, and that it is growing by leaps and bounds:

Re: DISCOVERINGTHEWORDOFWISDOM.COM
Here is the doctor mentioned in the OP that helped Alicia get off her medications. He lives a whole-food-plant-based diet and incorporates that into his practice. He practices in Saratoga Springs, Utah:

Re: DISCOVERINGTHEWORDOFWISDOM.COM
Thanks for posting these Dave.
I was just about to ask you about this type of thing.
We had a family/singles home evening last night and they showed the last half of "What the Health", which covers some of the same stories.
Certainly something I had wanted to start on, and am now more ready to do so.

Re: DISCOVERINGTHEWORDOFWISDOM.COM
Here is another excellent and interesting video on the subject, by Michael Klaper, MD:
This is an old but good presentation (1993). Please note that Dr Klaper now recognizes the damaging effects of all vegetable oils, and has joined Drs Esselstyn, Barnard, McDougall, and others in recommending their avoidance.

I'm one of them ;-) http://discoveringthewordofwisdom.com/w ... teve-reed/dconrad000 wrote: ↑July 25th, 2017, 4:05 pm I had no idea about the extent to which this has been spreading among the Saints. I started a plant-based diet several years ago and a lot of excess weight I had gained slowly melted away. Jane Birch who operates the site wrote a really good book of the same name. She saw an article I wrote about my journey with reconciling some things in the Word of Wisdom and reached out to me. She sent me a book and I read it and wrote a review. I think she takes a good approach to the Word of Wisdom, she's pretty sharp and discovered a lot of the same things I did on my own.
Everything I've blogged about the subject is here if anyone is interested: http://oneclimbs.com/tag/word-of-wisdom/
My story is long and quite complex but I live and let live. I love this subject but I do not preach my applications of principles. Interestingly though, I've had several family members reach out asking for meatless recipes because of dangerously high cholesterol levels. I've started thinking that maybe there are other reasons this path opened up to me.

Great topic!
Fast Food - Whole Plant Foods
Refrigerator / Overnight Oatmeal
1 cup Old Fashioned Oats
1 cup Almond milk (or rice)
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup blueberries
2/3 cup banana, sliced
1.5 teaspoon chia seeds (optional)
Add Oats to your container of choice and pour in milk and vanilla. Add a layer of blueberries and then a layer of banana slices. Top with a drizzle of honey and, if desired, chia seeds. Place in fridge and enjoy in the morning or a few hours later!

Re: DISCOVERINGTHEWORDOFWISDOM.COM
Ok, I need recipes. A roadmap to get this together. Arenera thanks for one, but based on the way that one looks, I'm not going for it.
I did start with Penne Pasta last night.
But I need more recipes, if anyone has links, etc.

Man up, overnight oatmeal!
John McDougall has been in the practice for over 40 years. His wife has done much with recipes. McDougall is starch/grain oriented.

Joel Furhman has been practicing for years also. He is vegetables oriented.

Re: DISCOVERINGTHEWORDOFWISDOM.COM
I've had several family members reach out to me to see what I eat. I cook all kinds of stuff and it is pretty tasty if I do say so myself; I actually love preparing food. Because of the interest I am seriously considering starting a food blog to document some of my simple recipes and if anyone is interested I'll post a link here when I get it up. It's not going to be anything fancy at the beginning, but the food will be good, I can guarantee that.
Most of my dishes are totally plant-based but I do occasionally have eggs and a little bit of cheese. My wife and kids will eat meat still, I don't force anything upon them, they are free to practice the principles according to their needs and conscience. Since we are a bit of a blended household in that respect, many of my dishes can easily have meat added to them for those that desire to do so.
One blog I do like though is called http://ohsheglows.com, she has a lot of good recipes.
I have a vegetable soup recipe that I created from scratch, it's really good: http://oneclimbs.com/2014/01/24/steves- ... able-soup/
If you scroll down to the bottom of this page, you'll see some of my dishes for ideas: http://oneclimbs.com/2016/09/04/lessons ... ased-diet/

What is this, a delayed reaction? You already had a post about it, and it was "man up". Now are you being "snowflakey?"
"Why don't you be a man about it?" Which I don't even know if you are of the male or female persuasion anyway. With David you can surmise.
Just joking.
But seriously, food must look good, it must have curb appeal, no? And your blueberry coagulated stuff there just didn't look it to me.

Ok, I have the initial site up. I've thrown a few things on there that may be of interest. I'll be adding meals and recipes as I go, most of the stuff I make is from scratch off the top of my head so I'll have to write the measurements down. http://89eats.com/
