List of Latter-day Conservative 2006 CANDIDATES...

Post by creator »

I sent out the following e-mail to all 2006 candidates in Utah:

2006 Candidates - PLEASE RESPOND - Are you a Latter-day Conservative?

Are you a Latter-day Conservative? We would like to know...

LatterdayConservative.com is a website dedicated to educating others about the proper role of government, principles of Freedom, U.S. Constitution, and the Founding Fathers. The primary means of this education is done using the words of the LDS Prophets regarding these important principles.

I am organizing a list of all 2006 Utah Candidates who support these same principles. This list will be shared with thousands of voters throughout Utah.

Before responding please visit http://www.LatterdayConservative.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Browsing through the many quotes and articles from LDS Prophets and other Latter-day Saints will help you determine if you are a Latter-day Conservative.

What is a Latter-day Conservative?

A Latter-day conservative is a person that believes that rights come from God, and that governments were instituted of God for the benefit of man, in order to protect those rights. A Latter-day Conservative also believes that the U.S. Constitution is the Supreme law of the land and it should be interpreted based on the Founding Fathers original intent. Additionally, a Latter-day Conservative is awake to the fact that a Secret Combination has slowly infiltrated and taken control of much of the government (as prophesied in Ether chapter 8 of the Book of Mormon and by other scriptures and multiple LDS prophets). This Secret Combination works to destroy the freedoms of all people in all nations and has been very successful in duping many people into accepting socialism in the U.S. To combat against this Secret Combination a Latter-day Conservative will educate others about the principles of freedom and proper role of government and do all they can to uphold these righteous principles.

Please consider reading the following articles:

The Proper Role of Government - by Ezra Taft Benson:

The Constitution - by J. Reuben Clark, Jr.:

101 Constitutional Questions To Ask Candidates - by W. Cleon Skousen:

Civic Standards for the Faithful Saints - by Ezra Taft Benson :
http://www.latterdayconservative.com/mo" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ... ticleid=20

Please repsond to this e-mail with the following information:

* Your name.
* Office you are running for.
* Your website address, if any, so we can learn more about you.
* A Yes or No answer to the question: Are You a Latter-day Conservative?
* Any other statement you would like to leave for others.

Sincerely,

Brian M.

The answer is yes I am a latter-day -conservative.

I feel that by using the “Latter-Day” name, you have inferred the LDS philosophy. I feel that it is wrong. I am a believer in the founding fathers message and support the Constitution of our great country. I believe that our rights were inspired by our creator, but it is up to us to interpret the correct meaning of those rights. I am a strong conservative and will absolutely support the principles of freedom. The problem is my definition of the intent of the founding fathers will be different than yours and even the founding fathers, if they were alive today, would have major differing opinions as to what they meant. You are trying to put a simple message on a complex issue.

I am a true conservative. I believe that personal responsibility is the basis of our democracy. I believe as Jefferson did, that there should be sharp limits on the federal government and that there should be a separation of church and state. My problem with your stand is that when you say “God” has given us these rights, whose god do you mean. Is it the Protestant God, the Catholic God, the LDS God, the Muslim God, *******. So to answer your question, No I would not subscribe to your particular notion of “Latter-Day Conservative".

Yes, I'm a Latter-day Conservative.

I believe in freedom. Freedom from a paternalistic government, from the unconstitutional income tax; from congressmen who ignore their oath of office and betray the Constitution; from unconstitutional bodies which run our government from behind the scenes; from unconstitutional treaties which rob us of our sovereignty; from politicians who try to buy votes to stay in office; from a out of control judiciary which will let murderers go free but think nothing of killing unborn babies; from an education system which passes out condoms like they were candy then wonders why there is so much teen-age prenancy; from immoral CEOs who own our media and lie to us to make us dumb and subservient; from an illegal alien invasion which just might be the last straw which destroys our Republic and especially from an immoral few who want to take God and Christ out of our schools, government offices, and out of society in general.

I believe our Constitution is indeed hanging by a thread, and if it goes, our Christian civilization goes too. I mourn for our once-great country and will do all I can to bring it back. May God give us strength for the battle which is on the horizon and may He preserve our land, for all those who believe in liberty.

# I'm even a little uncomfortable with the word "Conservative" which has lost its meaning, has shifted around on the scale, and can imply different things to different people's minds. I consider myself a Latter-day Saint who tries his best to keep the commandments, who cherishes the America that was given to us by our founding fathers, and who knows that we have strayed VERY far from that system of government. I am doing everything I can to try to uphold and defend it.

I believe the Declaration of Independence and the US Constitution. I have actually taken the time to read and study them. Apathy (walking in darkness at noon day) and the embracing of socialism in America are the greatest threats that we face today as Latter-day Saints. Nothing short of a "restoration" of America's original form of government is needed. I have studied all of Ezra Taft Benson's books, along with many others. So, if this qualifies me as a Latter-day Conservative, then I guess I am one.

The label, "Latter-day Conservative" seems to have more to do with
religious denomination than political leanings. I believe strongly in
freedom, the constitution, a stronger shift from federal to state and
local powers, and other principles that you seem to support, but I
count myself a Buddhist, rather than LDS, even though I grew up in an
LDS family, and I am still listed as a member on the official church
records. I believe that you would be pleased by the way I would vote
on many issues, however, as I oppose the expansion of the role of
government in our lives, and I would like to see social security
replaced with a system of private support and donation, as much as
possible. I oppose socialized medicine, and would like to encourage
more private funding and support for schools, and separate the school
system from politics and the likelihood of political indoctrination.

I consider myself to be traditionally conservative in matters of
economics, and liberal in matters of personal freedom, and the rights
guaranteed by the constitution. There is already a name for this
political leaning: Libertarian.

I was astounded by the information in Ezra Taft Benson's biography and impressed greatly by his desire to serve his country in spite of his personal wishes to be a simple farmer. I feel as he did, that I was asked to to do something that I feel inadequate to do but, as he, I am willing to go where I feel the Lord would have me go. I love America, I love the Constitution, and I love the Lord. I am grateful for the opportunity to throw my hat into a not-so-popular arena if only to show how I feel by supporting the ideas in the Constitution. I joined the Constitution Party because I believe they have the right idea about what America should be like and I want to help in bringing to the light the fact that Ether was right about his prophetic insight into the Last Days. There are, in very fact, Secret Combinations controlling our nation and it is time we stood up and fought--once again--for freedom. The fight that began in Heaven before this life, continues here and we must stand up and be counted or we shall endanger our very salvation. Join me in upholding the Constitution and please, please visit http://cputah.org" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and read about 51 other candidates state-wide with the same convictions as mine! The Prophet Joseph Smith prophesied that there would come a day when the Constitution would hang by a thread and he said that if it was to be rescued from the brink of destruction it would be this people that would save it. Today is that day!!! Join us and help us save the Constitution from the Security and Prosperity Partnership. Using your definition of Latter-day Conservative, "a person that believes that rights come from God, and that governments were instituted of God for the benefit of man, in order to protect those rights," absolutely, I am. I word my response like that because I typically don't call myself a conservative, in the same way I don't call myself a liberal, because to many people they have come to mean exactly the opposite of what they once meant. The term I prefer is libertarian.

I support the content of the statement until the secret combination part. I know the effects of socialism which is rampant in our country and have a record of fighting it. However, I'm not cognizant of the secret combination. I do believe however that the greatest danger to our country is the economic and civic illiteracy of our citizens. They are fat, dumb and lazy. They don't know and they don't care. The mass media money machine and many unprincipled politicians make them easy prey because of their intellectual defenselessness.

I have been a candidate for Utah Governor (1992 - American Party), U.S. Senate (1994 - American Party), U.S. Senate (1998 - Independent American Party), Utah State Senate, district 28 (2000 - Independent American Party), and U.S. Senate (2004 - Constitution Party) When voters asked me what my political platform was, I referred them to The Proper Role of Government, by Ezra Taft Benson. When asked about my stand on the U.S. Constitution, I refer to The Constitution, by J. Reuben Clark. When contradicted by "liberal" Mormons, I refer to Civic Standards for the Faithful Saints - by Ezra Taft Benson. They usually respond by regurgitating base-less rumors about Pres. Benson. I view this as prima facie evidence of their political apostasy and thereafter classify them as latter-day Aints, not Latter-Day Saints.

I like to quote the title from J. Reuben Clark's book: "Stand Fast By Our Constitution." (!!)

Wow … What a wonderful Site! You took the words out of my mouth…….. Stephen Pratt is a dear friend of mine who spent 7 years with Skousen researching for his books. Yes!! I really do qualify as a Latter-day Conservative! As a matter of fact, I am running for Utah House seat #43 on the Constitution Party platform. My information is on the Constitution Website: http://www.cputah.org/html/barbara_neville.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
The statement I have distilled so far in the election process is that our foundational principles have been and are being corrupted by our “socialized” instead of “civilized” citizenry. I seek to restore the U. S. Constitution to its original intent instead of seeking to “slop at the Federal trough”. I also seek a strong organization united under the banner of Freedom. Here is one citizen who still “roars like a lion for liberty” instead of “bleating like a sheep for security.” Best wishes!

Are You a Latter-day Conservative? No. If Orrin Hatch is a "conservative" then I am not one.

I am a graduate of BYU, and of the Freeman Institute's Constitution Class by Brother Skousen. I am a strict Constitutionalist, and therefore believe that the Constitution is a document which formed the federal government and at the same time placed very limited powers in the federal government. I take exception to your using the statement that governments are "instituted of God" without completing the scripture found in D&C 134.

1 We believe that governments were instituted of God for the benefit of man; and that he holds men accountable for their acts in relation to
them, both in making laws and administering them, for the good and
safety of society.
2 We believe that no government can exist in peace, except such laws are framed and held inviolate as will secure to each individual the free exercise of conscience, the right and control of property, and the protection of life.
5 We believe that all men are bound to sustain and uphold the respective governments in which they reside, *while *protected in their inherent and inalienable rights by the laws of such governments; and that sedition and rebellion are unbecoming every citizen thus protected, and should be punished accordingly; and that all governments have a right to enact such laws as in their own judgments are best calculated to secure the public interest; at the same time, however, holding sacred the freedom of conscience. (Emphasis mine, what happens when our rights and property are threatened by our own government and we are no longer 'protected'? Does rebellion become the only moral choice?)
9 We do not believe it just to mingle religious influence with civil
government, whereby one religious society is fostered and another
proscribed in its spiritual privileges, and the individual rights of its
members, as citizens, denied. (I was the lone dissenting voice on the
subject of the ten commandments in government buildings at a rally. Why would people place government on par with God? Do they not understand the levels of power, God creates man, man creates government? The only 'creator' that government should acknowledge is its own private citizens.)

America is unique in all the known history of the world. America alone
places sovereignty in the hands of the average citizen.

* This Constitution is a contract written by men to place
government subservient to them. God created man, man created
government. To place God as the creator of all governments is to
place God as the author of chaos, when he is clearly the creator
of order. Therefore governmental systems which are most in
harmony with God's law would prosper mankind the most. Were the
founding fathers inspired in their creation of our republic?
Absolutely, after study and debate they created a system with
limited powers, checks and balances and a difficult method for
amendment. They realized the sovereignty of the individual, and
freedom would create the most peaceful and prosperous society.
These checks and balances have been discarded as we elect more
lawyers to office and bureaucracies replace honest legislation.
More importantly, our eternal progression pivots on our attitude
toward the eternal principle of free agency. Will we stand up as
the creators of government and demand a return to lawful limits or
will we place obedience to government on the same level as
obedience to God? Be careful, if you are truly going to be an
advocate for liberty, then you must be willing to defend liberty
even for those that choose to abuse themselves with unhealthy
behavior. Voltaire said, "I may not agree with what you say, but
I will fight to the death for your right to say it." I am a
strong advocate for the individual citizen's rights and freedoms,
the birthright of every American. But if you want me to call
myself 'conservative' and join the rank and file compromisers like
Mr. Hatch, I cannot do it. I do not seek power but rather to pull
it down, said Captain Moroni. I do not know what 'conservatives'
intend to 'conserve' except the status quo of compromise to the
socialists in power. When it comes to the liberty of my fellow
citizens and my family members I cannot compromise. Not now, not
ever. I have read many of the books from your recommended reading list. None dare call it conspiracy was read as a result of my
reading the Book of Mormon as a teenager. But you have left out
'The Law' by Fredrich Bastiat,
> * http://www.constitution.org/law/bastiat.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and Atlas Shrugged
> by Ayn Rand. We cannot blame runaway socialism in our
> government on God, it is our responsibility to reign them in.
> Mr. Hatch has proven himself incapable of self restraint, and a
> supporter of the religion of statism. I do not worship the
> power in the state, and would warn you to avoid it as well.
> Much of my Libertarian philosophy has come as a result of my
> reading of the Book of Mormon, the D&C and the Pearl of Great
> Price. I find no other political party that is in harmony with
> God's law of perfect liberty. Jesus gave us the golden rule as
> a summary to his sermon on the mount, then declared it 'the
> law'. No where else will you find the ultimate law so clearly
> uttered. We must apply the golden rule to every human
> interaction, even foreign policy!
>
Will government ever get smaller if we keep re-electing those
that have worked so hard to make it bigger? They campaign as freedom
loving Constitutionalists and legislate as socialists. You don't
believe that they are socialists? Read the ten planks of Marx's
Communist manifesto
http://www.libertyzone.com/Communist-Ma" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ... lanks.html and ask
yourself which of these planks Mr. Hatch has worked actively to remove
from the American politic. Government Schools? Brigham Young asked
rhetorically (paraphrasing) 'who better to educate our youth than the
mothers to whom God entrusted them?' Who taught the stripling
warriors? Oh yeah, their mothers. Could the stripling warriors come
from the government educated masses? Could current government schools produce the likes of Jefferson? Adams? Washington? Franklin? Wythe? Lee? I think not. Are our properties secure from seizure by government? Yes, secret combinations of designing men have assumed control over our government but only because we have allowed our birthright to be traded for a bowl of pottage.

I find this kind of questioning disgusting. You are basically saying that if you are not a Mormon, you are not good enough to be in office. I hope that every good LDS, Christian, Jewish and every other candidate refuses to answer your questionaire. I am extremely offended by this.

Art Haddow

Candidate for House District 31
Although I wish he wouldn't have taken the invitation in this way, I still wonder if he might have a point.

Ultimately if someone wasn't LDS, but if they were running on a platform that supported the original Constitution principles, I would still vote for them.

Is there a way you can make your invitation more generic, while still asking the question relating to supporting the Constitution?

After he sent me the response I thought it would have been a good idea to at least include a disclaimer... but the messages have already been sent... this is how I responded to Art Haddow:
Actually I am NOT saying that if you are not a mormon you are not good enough to be in office - don't assume what I haven't said. I care not what religion you do or don't belong to. I am sorry you took this the wrong way. I will clarify for you. A Latter-day Conservative does NOT have to be a member of the LDS Church. In fact, I know many good candidates that I would vote for, if they were in my district, who are not LDS. A Latter-day Conservative is someone who supports the principles of freedom, that believes that rights come from God, and that governments were instituted of God for the benefit of man, in order to protect those rights. A Latter-day Conservative also believes that the U.S. Constitution is the Supreme law of the land and it should be interpreted based on the Founding Fathers original intent.

Hopefully he will accept your clarification and still respond to the original question.

I find this kind of questioning disgusting. You are basically saying that if you are not a Mormon, you are not good enough to be in office. I hope that every good LDS, Christian, Jewish and every other candidate refuses to answer your questionaire. I am extremely offended by this.
I'm surprised at this candidate's reaction. Isn't it the responsibility and privilege of the electorate to find and vote for those who will support and implement their idea of good government?

If I were running for office and a pro-gay organization contacted me asking a similar question I would reply and basically say that I don't support their views. Easy capizzi. Then, they don't vote for me. Likewise, this candidate either supports constitutional principles and small government, or he doesn't. Misconstruing Brian's question as a religious inquiry shows how off target this candidate may in fact be.

I was really suprised at Howard A. Stephenson's response, especially since he is LDS and he states:
I support the content of the statement until the secret combination part...I'm not cognizant of the secret combination.
I am sending him a response, a nice one, hoping to help him understand what the prophets and the scriptures have stated about the Secret Combinations.

Since this candidate information is all publicly available knowledge, I would also encourage any of you to contact the people who are either in office or seeking office and give them words of advice. Sometimes we go on and on about how our elected representatives are either part of or are ignorantly building up the secret combinations, so why not attempt to educate them? I imagine the good we could do by educating and "waking" some of these people up to the things they may not be aware of.

Also, I really appreciate the response from Curtis Oda - He responded saying he is a true conservative and didn't take offense to the fact that my message to him was somewhat LDS oriented. I would hope that all non-LDS who received that message will respond with similar consideration.

When I vote, I don't base my decision on what religion a person belongs to, I learn what principles the person believes in.

This is incredible! It would be interesting to research the voting records of these 'Latter-Day Conservatives'!

I have updated Art Haddow's message to reflect his 2nd response to me after I cleared up the fact that it matters not what religion a person subscribes to in order to stand up for the principles of freedom.

As a result of this e-mail I sent out to all Utah candidates, my website LatterdayConservative.com was mentioned in a Salt Lake Tribune news article today. I find it funny the news they come up with...
