Spanking linked to increase in children's behavior problems
Date:
November 16, 2017
Source:
Association for Psychological Science
Summary:
Children who have been spanked by their parents by age 5 show an increase in behavior problems at age 6 and age 8 relative to children who have never been spanked, according to new findings. The study, which uses a statistical technique to approximate random assignment, indicates that this increase in behavior problems cannot be attributed to various characteristics of the child, the parents, or the home environment - rather, it seems to be the specific result of spanking.

Two Bronx babies saved with Narcan after nearly killed from taking opioids
BY ROCCO PARASCANDOLA EDGAR SANDOVAL LARRY MCSHANE
Two Bronx toddlers are hospitalized after they nearly died from taking opioids carelessly left out in the open, police said.
In the most severe case, a 1-year-old girl took a near-fatal sample of her heroin using dad’s stash — requiring three blasts of Narcan to revive the overdosing child, police said.
The wasted Edgardo Rodriguez, 20, confessed his drug use after investigators found white powder on the comforter of his bed and 1.7 grams of heroin in his pants last Saturday morning.
“I was using heroin in the bed before my kids laid down,” Rodriguez was quoted as telling police. “Some of it spilled on the bed. It made a mess.

I keep watching this thread pop up and I just have to say that for us, because of the way I drive , it's easier to have a baby than to keep the cost of insurance down. - I am working on it though...

Prosecutor: 2 children found in California storage unit murdered because of bagel
SALINAS, Calif. — According to KSBW News, the 2015 violent deaths of Delylah Tara, 3, and her brother, Shaun Tara, 6, in Salinas were so monstrous that even veteran homicide detectives struggled emotionally with the case.
In court Wednesday, prosecutors revealed the prime motive behind the child killings, making the case even more incomprehensible.
Monterey County prosecutor Steve Somers said Delylah, Shaun, and their 9-year-old sister were beaten because the 9-year-old girl "stole" a bagel on Thanksgiving.
Now, the children's aunt, Tami Huntsman, and Gonzalo Curiel, who was 17-years-old at the time, are being charged with torture and murder.
Somers described events immediately leading up to Thanksgiving Day of 2015 when the 9-year-old girl took the bagel, "they got a beating, and that's when the kids died."
Investigators say the 9-year-old girl survived. "She survived and feels guilty," Somers said.
Somers said Huntsman and Curiel left their Salinas apartment the day after Thanksgiving in the middle of the night, driving the two bodies and the severely injured 9-year-old girl, to Plumas County.
