Facebook, Instagram: Why your doctor could be spying on you
TELLING your doctor you have only four drinks a week when you actually love a bender might not be as clever as you think.
If you openly share information about your life online, there is a good chance your doctor already knows all about it.

Outrage as New York school tells students they should masturbate to avoid carrying out sex attacks on nights out
A university has caused outrage after it told students that they should masturbate as a way of stopping themselves from carrying out sex attacks on nights out.

A slide which was presented at a student orientation session at the Rochester Institute of Technology in New York used Winnie the Pooh character, Roo's name as an acronym about masturbation.

Jennifer Lawrence: ‘Mother Nature’s Rage’ Directed at U.S. Because of Trump
In an interview with Channel 4, a British public service television network, American actress Jennifer Lawrence blamed the recent hurricanes on Donald Trump’s voters, because they don't believe in man-made climate change. During the lengthy interview on her new movie Mother!, the conversation turned political about halfway through. After discussing the alleged pay gap between men and women, the interviewer asked Lawrence about climate change and the political climate in America.

New AI can work out whether you're gay or straight from a photograph | Technology | The Guardian
An algorithm deduced the sexuality of people on a dating site with up to 91% accuracy, raising tricky ethical questions

Artificial intelligence can accurately guess whether people are gay or straight based on photos of their faces, according to new research suggesting that machines can have significantly better “gaydar” than humans.

The study from Stanford University – which found that a computer algorithm could correctly distinguish between gay and straight men 81% of the time, and 74% for women – has raised questions about the biological origins of sexual orientation, the ethics of facial-detection technology and the potential for this kind of software to violate people’s privacy or be abused for anti-LGBT purposes.

FEC Dems renew bid to regulate internet, Drudge, 'not done fighting'
They've repeatedly tried and failed to impose regulations on internet political communications, possibily even media sites like the Drudge Report, but congressional testimony that unnamed Russians spent $100,000 for politically themed ads on Facebook is sparking a new bid by Democrats on the Federal Election Commission.

Commissioner Ellen Weintraub and former FEC Chairwoman Ann Ravel quickly reacted to reports on the Russian ads targeting voters, using their favorite social media tool – Twitter – to indicate their new focus.

"Oh, that's not good," tweeted Weintraub. "I wholeheartedly agree," responded Ravel to a series of tweets that included the Russia influence report.

Wilmington, Delaware: Blood on streets is mostly from young people
Kids are more likely to be shot in Wilmington than any other U.S. city.

Arguments start on Facebook and Twitter between young people age 12 to 17 and are frequently settled with guns. They are targeted for seemingly innocuous insults on social media about a girl, a family member or a pair of sneakers. One shooting often begets another and another.

Trump DOJ: No plans to charge Lois Lerner in IRS scandal | Fox News
The Trump administration has no plans to charge former IRS official Lois Lerner over her role in the Tea Party targeting scandal, the Justice Department said Friday in response to calls by Republican lawmakers to revisit the case.

In a letter to the lawmakers, the Justice Department said that "reopening the criminal investigation would not be appropriate based on the available evidence."

This past April, House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Kevin Brady, R-Texas, and Rep. Peter Roskam, R-Ill., had asked Attorney General Jeff Sessions to take a "fresh look" at the case.

California’s homelessness crisis moves to the country - San Francisco Chronicle
California housing costs are spiraling so high that they are pushing the state’s homelessness crisis into places it’s never been before — sparsely populated rural counties.

A Chronicle analysis of biennial homeless counts taken early this year across California shows that the sharpest increases occurred not in San Francisco and other urban centers but in out-of-the-way places such as the thickly forested Sierra Nevada and the dusty flatlands and low hills of the northern Sacramento Valley.

Miami shelters homeless against their will as Irma closes in
MIAMI (AP) — On what is likely the last clear day in Florida before Hurricane Irma’s monster wind and rain, social workers and police officers are giving Miami’s estimated 1,100 homeless people a stark choice: Come willingly to a storm shelter, or be held against their will for a mental health evaluation.

With the outer edge of the storm approaching Friday, these officials — backed by a psychiatrist and observed by an Associated Press team — rolled through chillingly empty downtown streets as dawn broke over Biscayne Bay, searching for reluctant stragglers sleeping in waterfront parks.

Blood moons, solar eclipse and now the testimony of Heavenly Father. Things are progressing.

Winds, fire, floods and quakes: A nutty run of nature
WASHINGTON (AP) — With four big hurricanes, a powerful earthquake and wildfires, it seems that nature recently has just gone nuts.

Some of these disasters, like Friday’s earthquake in Mexico, are natural. Others may end up having a mix of natural and man-made ingredients after scientists examine them. We also always tend to look for patterns and order in chaos, even when they aren’t there, psychologists say.

“Nature’s gone crazy,” mused Jeff Masters, meteorology director at the private service Weather Underground. “Welcome to the future. Extreme weather like this is going to be occurring simultaneously more often because of global warming.”

A look at a rough few weeks in North America:

Uncle Sam Wants You ... to Fight Alongside a Killer Robot - Bloomberg
Running for president last year, Republican Senator Ted Cruz was widely ridiculed for telling a young girl that "the world's on fire." That may not have been the most politically astute way to talk to a three-year-old, but you have to admit Cruz has a few facts on his side: North Korea's nuclear bombast; a Taliban resurgence in Afghanistan; last-gasper Islamic State forces hanging on in Syria and Iraq; Iran arming to the teeth its proxy forces in Lebanon and Yemen; China's fake-island building; Russia's positioning hundreds of thousands of troops on the borders of NATO allies; and increasing terrorist activity in North and Sub-Saharan Africa.

I have come to believe that the Burning Man festival is a sacrifice of God. Take for example the various titles for God:

Man of Holiness (Heavenly Father)
Son of Man (Jesus Christ)

How we refer to ourselves:
human
mankind

Man is another title for God, or a reference to him. We are of the race of man.

Burning Man is the sacrifice of God. They are figuratively putting God to death so they can be free of His divine judgement.

Row over AI that 'identifies gay faces' - BBC News
A facial recognition experiment that claims to be able to distinguish between gay and heterosexual people has sparked a row between its creators and two leading LGBT rights groups.
The Stanford University study claims its software recognises facial features relating to sexual orientation that are not perceived by human observers.
The work has been accused of being "dangerous" and "junk science".
But the scientists involved say these are "knee-jerk" reactions.
Details of the peer-reviewed project are due to be published in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology.

All jobs are threatened by automation. I think the correct response is to form a cottage industry economy but I don't think it will happen until we are all out of work.

'Inspirational' robots to begin replacing teachers within 10 years
Robots will begin replacing teachers in the classroom within the next ten years as part of a revolution in one-to-one learning, a leading educationalist has predicted.

Sir Anthony Seldon, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Buckingham, said intelligent machines that adapt to suit the learning styles of individual children will soon render traditional academic teaching all but redundant.

The former Master of Wellington College said programmes currently being developed in Silicon Valley will learn to read the brains and facial expressions of pupils, adapting the method of communication to what works best for them.

Hurricane Irma: Dozens of dogs abandoned, left unable to escape
Authorities in south Florida may pursue felony charges against people who abandoned their animals as Hurricane Irma approached the Florida peninsula.

Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control director Dianne Sauve said the agency recovered roughly 40 dogs in the days before Irma made landfall in Florida. Some were tied up, others were in pens or in enclosed yards, unable to escape.

She said such abandonment is one of the worst things someone can do to their pet, saying "There is absolutely no excuse for doing that."

On Sunday morning, the Florida Department of Public Health reiterated the dangers posed when pets are abandoned during a storm.

News from The Associated Press
ABOARD THE PAPAL PLANE (AP) -- Pope Francis has sharply criticized climate change doubters, saying history will judge those who failed to take the necessary decisions to curb heat-trapping emissions blamed for the warming of the Earth.

Francis was asked about climate change and the spate of hurricanes that have pummeled the U.S., Mexico and the Caribbean recently as his charter plane left Colombia on Sunday and flew over some of the devastated areas.

"Those who deny this must go to the scientists and ask them. They speak very clearly," he said, referring to experts who blame global warming on man-made activities.
