"The theological fur is flying after a Church of England congregation hosted a joint birthday celebration for Muhammad and Jesus, with the church being accused of rejecting the fundamentals of the Christian faith.
The “Milad, Advent and Christmas Celebration” took place Sunday, Dec. 3, at All Saints Church in Kingston upon Thames and was organized with the Kingston Inter-Faith Forum and the South London Inter-Faith Group.
Milad, or Milwad, is the celebration of Muhammad’s birth.
“Marking the birthday of Prophet Muhammad and looking forward to the birthday of Jesus,” the flyer for the event read. “With provision for prayer at Asr and Maghrib and followed by the cutting of the birthday cake and Rizwan’s ‘High Tea.'”
That drew the attention and ire of Adrian Hilton, publisher of Archbishop Cranmer, one of the U.K.’s most popular political and highest-ranking religion blogs. Thomas Cranmer, an early Protestant reformer burned at the stake in 1556, was responsible for the Anglican Book of Common Prayer.
“Note how this event is ‘Marking the birthday of Prophet Muhammad,’ but not looking forward to the birthday of the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God,” wrote Hilton. “Muhammad gets his prophethood, while Jesus gets neither his prophethood nor his priesthood; neither his kingship nor his messiahship. It’s the exalted Prophet Muhammad along with plain old Jesus, because to have added any of his claims to divinity would, of course, have alienated many Muslims (if they hadn’t already been alienated by the haram celebration), which wouldn’t have been very interfaith or sensitively missional, would it?”
Acknowledging Muhammad as “Prophet” is no small thing, Hilton argued. Islam claims its founder came to fulfil and complete the partial revelation of those prophets who came before, including Jesus. Indeed, Jesus’ words to his disciples that after departing He would send them the Comforter, the “Spirit of Truth that proceeds from the Father” (John 15:26) – seen by Christians as a promise of the Holy Spirit – are viewed in Islam as a prophecy announcing Muhammad.
“Every time a church accords Muhammad the epithet ‘Prophet,’ they are rejecting the crucifixion, denying the resurrection of Christ, and refuting that the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us, for Muhammad denied all of these foundational tenets of the Christian faith,” says Hilton.
Despite the criticism, a spokesman for the Diocese of Southwark defended holding the interfaith event, saying “it was not a service and … broke no Canon law.”
It “enabled Christians, Muslims and others to meet together in order to promote better understanding, conversation, and relationships.”
This is not the first time the Church of England has been taken to task for attempting to mix Christianity and Islam.
Westminster Abbey earlier hosted a service during which Muhammad was named in the succession of prophets. During a January 2017 church service in celebration of the Feast of Epiphany at St. Mary’s Episcopal in Glasgow, the Quran was read in Arabic by a young Muslim woman who chose as her passage one that declared Jesus was not the Son of God.
“To have a reading from the Quran at that point was a fairly serious error for the Christian worshiping community,” commented Rev. Gavin Ashenden, then chaplain to the queen. “But to choose the reading they chose doubled the error. Of all passages you might have read likely to cause offense, that was one of the most problematic.”
Ashenden subsequently resigned the chaplaincy so he could be free to “speak on behalf of the faith.”
While the Scottish church issued a statement saying it was “distressed” at what had occurred, no apology was issued.
Last month, WND reported that an elementary school in Norway had incorporated readings from the Quran into its Christmas celebration.

According to anti-Shariah activist Pamela Geller, this has all sadly become par for the course.
“This is a sign of the times in Europe,” said Geller, author of “Stop the Islamization of America.” “It’s as if the Europeans know who their new masters and overlords are. The same spirit of appeasement and submission that animates such initiatives in Europe is alive and well here.”
Indeed, 50 U.S. churches in 26 states invited Muslim clergy to come and read from the Quran in their sanctuaries in 2011. It was part of the “Faith Shared: Uniting in Prayer and Understanding” initiative, a project of Interfaith Alliance and Human Rights First. The project was an effort to counter “anti-Muslim bigotry” at a time when Quran burnings had been in the news. The Washington National Cathedral was one of the churches that took part in the initiative.
Leo Hohmann, WND news editor and author of “Stealth Invasion: Muslim Conquest Through Immigration and the Resettlement Jihad,” had harsh words for the Christians who have allowed the Muslim holy book to be read in their sacred spaces.
“Allowing the Quran to be read inside a church is the equivalent of the ancient Israelites setting up an image of a false god in the Holy of Holies,” Hohmann declared. “It’s blasphemous. Why? Because the Quran denies the deity of Christ, denies that God is a Father or that he had a Son, and also denies the crucifixion and resurrection of Christ. What’s left of Christianity that Islam and the Quran do not deny?”

"After receiving harsh criticism from the LGBT community for partnering with the Salvation Army to help collect donations and provide Christmas gifts for five needy children, a donut shop in Portland, Maine, was forced to end its charitable campaign.
LGBT activists voiced their outrage against The Holy Donut for taking part in the Christian charity’s gift drive to provide gifts for a local family, CBN News reported. The shop’s owners gave a free donut to customers who donated presents and winter clothes to the struggling family.
Attack after attack
Accusers from Portland’s LGBT community made highly contended claims that the Salvation Army had discriminated in the past against locals who identify as LGBT.
“They proselytize to the people in their programs, [and] they reject LGBT people from their shelters,” an pro-LGBT commenter wrote on The Holy Donut’s Facebook page, according to the Press Herald. “They have tried to scrub their image, but still discriminate.”
Threats to rally the community in a boycott of the local donut shop were also made.
“People are going to boycott The Holy Donut because of YOUR choices,” another LGBT activist commented. “Do you see what we’re getting at? You’re supporting an establishment that doesn’t support your customers, so your customers will stop supporting you.”
One claim made the inference that joining the Salvation Army’s Christmas drive denoted rejection of the LGBT community.
“In case you forgot, a solid 70 percent of your clientele is part of the LGBTQ community,” a separate LGBT advocate asserted in a comment. “You’re making a silent statement that you’re completely fine with their choices.”
Addressing LGBT’s false rumors
Refuting accusations that it had a history of exhibiting an anti-homosexual agenda, the Salvation Army is determined to set the record straight and keep LGBT activists from spreading lies.
“There is an effort to continue the misinformation and this seems to be pushed most heavily during the red kettle season – it is difficult to fight a phantom,” the statement addressing the LGBT on Salvation Army’s Northern Division website reads. We need your help in ending these rumors. They can persuade people not to give, which in turn diminishes our resources and our ability to serve people in crisis. Please share what you know about The Salvation Army – that we serve anywhere there is need, without discrimination.”
The statement addressed the numerous unsubstantiated attacks.
“We are fighting false accusations claiming that The Salvation Army discriminates against the LGBT community and pays lobbyists to fight against their interests,” the statement continues. “The Salvation Army is open and inclusive to all people. Anyone who comes through our doors will receive help based on their need and our capacity to assist.”
The group reminded the community about its core beliefs and purpose – which is to bless and serve the entire community.
“We annually serve around 30 million Americans from a variety of backgrounds – we do not pick and choose who we serve based on religion, sexual orientation or any other factor,” the Christian charity informed. “This promise to serve goes to the core of our beliefs as laid out in our organizational Mission Statement: ‘The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian church. Its message is based on the Bible. Its ministry is motivated by the love of God. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination.’”
It was impressed that the Salvation Army’s longstanding policy is to help – not attack.
“Any instance of discrimination is in direct opposition to our core beliefs and is against all of our policies,” the Christian group stressed. “It is not The Salvation Army’s practice to spend funds on lobbying. The Salvation Army is apolitical and concentrates its resources on providing relief and compassionate care to those in crisis. Any advocacy is done in regard to the services we provide and educating legislators on how government actions will impact those we serve. The Salvation Army embraces employees of many different faiths and orientations and abides by all applicable anti-discrimination laws in its hiring.”
The Salvation army was addressing a past allegation touted by local LGBT activists.
“The Salvation Army has often come under fire from the LGBT community,” the Press-Herald noted. “In 2012, a Burlington, Vermont, woman said she was fired by The Salvation Army for being bisexual.”
Giving in to the pressure
Even though many customers fully support the Holy Donut’s partnership with the iconic Christian organisation – best known for its Christmastime storefront bell ringers’ fundraising and for providing shelter for the homeless – the shop’s owners succumbed to pressure and decided to sever relations with the charitable group.
“We do not support the Salvation Army or consider them our ‘partner’ for this project – they simply linked us to a needy family,” the owners of the Holy Donut wrote on their Facebook page. “We have nothing to gain here – we just wanted to help a family in need.”
The store owners felt the need to explain – similar to the Salvation Army – that they do not discriminate when it comes to serving the community.
“We take this opportunity to sincerely apologise to anyone that we have offended,” the post continued. “We are an organisation which prides itself on our track record of kindness and acceptance of everyone.”
Despite the Holy Donut’s severing of ties with the Salvation Army and its issuance of an unwarranted apology, local LGBT supporters were not appeased and have continued their assault on the shop with condemnations and bad reviews.
“Online commenters seem unmoved,” the Herald’s James Patrick reported. “The Holy Donut has received multiple one- and two-star reviews in the past few days on Facebook as people vent their displeasure about the charity drive.”
The donut shop’s owners quickly discovered that it is impossible to please LGBT activists – unless one fully supports or promotes their unbiblical lifestyle.
“On Tuesday, The Holy Donut posted for a second time about the controversy,” Patrick noted. “If the comments on that post get too negative, the doughnut shop warned, it might delete the post. Comments on that post have been overwhelmingly positive.”
Franklin Graham exposes LGBT agenda
Rev. Franklin Graham called out Portland’s LGBT activists on their campaign to attack Christian-related causes – and shut down anything and anyone who does not fully support or promote the homosexual agenda.
As the president of the Christian humanitarian aid organisation, Samaritan’s Purse – which runs Operation Christmas Child –Graham asserted that the LGBT community’s tactics of using fear, misinformation and intimidation against businesses is regularly employed throughout the nation to push its radical campaign aimed at normalising homosexual behavior.
“This attack is no surprise,” Graham expressed in a Facebook post. “Just look at the bakers, florists, videographers and photographers that have exited the wedding business, experienced death threats, and face public shaming for simply not participating in a gay wedding.”
The world-renowned evangelist and president of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association (BGEA) ended his post with a call for prayer that Christians in America will not cave in to the demands of the LGBT community and be silent.
“Pray that our country will see through this spiritual blindness, and pray that Christians will have boldness to stand by the Word of God – even if jobs, or promotions, or reputations are threatened,” Graham closed."

"If you are a conservative and you’ve ever gotten into a political debate with someone you disagree with then you’ve probably been called this epithet at some point in your discussion – “fascist.”

I’ve never understood this line of attack. As a conservative, I argue for limited government, free markets, personal responsibility, and individual liberty. These basic tenets are, LITERALLY, the exact opposite of fascism. They are completely opposed to fascism and if these ideas exist – then a fascist government is impossible. Given these truths, how could I ever be confused with a fascist?

Further, it is usually my opponents who are more closely aligned with fascism. They usually argue for BIGGER government, higher taxes, more government spending, a more invasive welfare state, and more government control of the factors of production. These ideas are wholly aligned with fascism.

And therein lies the truth about where fascism belongs on the political spectrum… it is an obviously leftist philosophy.

In the latest episode from Prager University, author, thinker, pundit, and filmmaker Dinesh D’Souza explains why fascism is incompatible with conservative ideology, but fits perfectly on the left.

“He’s a fascist!”

For decades, this has been a favorite smear of the left, aimed at those on the right. Every Republican president—for that matter, virtually every Republican—since the 1970s has been called a fascist; now, more than ever.

This label is based on the idea that fascism is a phenomenon of the political right. The left says it is, and some self-styled white supremacists and neo-Nazis embrace the label.
But are they correct?
To answer this question, we have to ask what fascism really means: What is its underlying ideology? Where does it even come from?
These are not easy questions to answer. We know the name of the philosopher of capitalism: Adam Smith. We know the name of the philosopher of Marxism: Karl Marx. But who’s the philosopher of fascism?
Yes—exactly. You don’t know. Don’t feel bad. Almost no one knows. This is not because he doesn’t exist, but because historians, most of whom are on the political left, had to erase him from history in order to avoid confronting fascism’s actual beliefs. So, let me introduce him to you. His name is Giovanni Gentile.
Born in 1875, he was one of the world’s most influential philosophers in the first half of the twentieth century. Gentile believed that there were two “diametrically opposed” types of democracy. One is liberal democracy, such as that of the United States, which Gentile dismisses as individualistic—too centered on liberty and personal rights—and therefore selfish. The other, the one Gentile recommends, is “true democracy,” in which individuals willingly subordinate themselves to the state.
Like his philosophical mentor, Karl Marx, Gentile wanted to create a community that resembles the family, a community where we are “all in this together.” It’s easy to see the attraction of this idea. Indeed, it remains a common rhetorical theme of the left.
For example, at the 1984 convention of the Democratic Party, the governor of New York, Mario Cuomo, likened America to an extended family where, through the government, people all take care of each other.
Nothing’s changed. Thirty years later, a slogan of the 2012 Democratic Party convention was, “The government is the only thing we all belong to.” They might as well have been quoting Gentile.
Now, remember, Gentile was a man of the left. He was a committed socialist. For Gentile, fascism is a form of socialism—indeed, its most workable form. While the socialism of Marx mobilizes people on the basis of class, fascism mobilizes people by appealing to their national identity as well as their class. Fascists are socialists with a national identity. German Fascists in the 1930s were called Nazis—basically a contraction of the term “national socialist.”
For Gentile, all private action should be oriented to serve society; there is no distinction between the private interest and the public interest. Correctly understood, the two are identical. And who is the administrative arm of the society? It’s none other than the state. Consequently, to submit to society is to submit to the state—not just in economic matters, but in all matters. Since everything is political, the state gets to tell everyone how to think and what to do.
It was another Italian, Benito Mussolini, the fascist dictator of Italy from 1922 to 1943, who turned Gentile’s words into action. In his Dottrina del Fascismo, one of the doctrinal statements of early fascism, Mussolini wrote, “All is in the state and nothing human exists or has value outside the state.” He was merely paraphrasing Gentile.
The Italian philosopher is now lost in obscurity, but his philosophy could not be more relevant because it closely parallels that of the modern left. Gentile’s work speaks directly to progressives who champion the centralized state. Here in America, the left has vastly expanded state control over the private sector, from healthcare to banking; from education to energy. This state-directed capitalism is precisely what German and Italian fascists implemented in the 1930s.
Leftists can’t acknowledge their man, Gentile, because that would undermine their attempt to bind conservatism to fascism. Conservatism wants small government so that individual liberty can flourish. The left, like Gentile, wants the opposite: to place the resources of the individual and industry in the service of a centralized state. To acknowledge Gentile is to acknowledge that fascism bears a deep kinship to the ideology of today’s left. So, they will keep Gentile where they’ve got him: dead, buried, and forgotten.
One of the greatest triumphs of post-war Leftist historical revisionism has been to take Fascism, a movement of the Left, and convince the majority of people that it is actually a movement of the Right. As Jonah Goldberg explained in his outstanding book, Liberal Fascism, Fascism is, and has always been, a movement of the Left, similar in very many ways to Communism; Fascism and Communism are first cousins."

FCKH8.com is owned by Synergy Media, a for-profit marketing company. According to its website, FCKH8 “has raised over $280,000 for equality causes, arming thousands of people with pro-LGBT equality, anti-racism and anti-sexism T-shirts that act as ‘mini-billboards’ for progress.”
The company is now selling pink “pussy hats” and related T-shirts through a website called PussyScouts. In an online advertisement released yesterday, pre-pubescent girls in pink “pussy hats” and mock Girl Scout uniforms perform an obscenity-laced “rap” about Donald Trump”.

Due to the absolute vulgarity and distasteful video, Mommy Underground refuses to provide the link.

These little girls are being exploited around the world, as leftist thugs cheer them on.

We are members of the most oppressed group of all. We have no group protection. There is no NAACP to go crying to when our jobs are taken and given to an under-educated Indian. Maldef will never stand with us in court when we are brutally assaulted by a mob of angry Mexicans. Nor is there an ADL to raise the flag of protest when our ethnicity is belittled and targeted for violence in black rap songs. We don't even have a white caucus to represent us in government.

So, we must sit in silence and watch as the nation, indeed all of the civilization, built by our forefathers is dismantled. We are forced to watch as our knowledge and history is stolen given to those who either can not or will not use it in a feeble attempt to instill ethnic pride in those that have nothing to prideful about. We huddle together as our jobs and homes are given away, sacrificed upon the altar of multiculturalism.

The Constantine family say they have been told to move out of their house in East Ham, London, and give their keys to their neighbours, the Alis, after losing a legal battle over an extension.
The two families have been locked in an eight-year row after the Constantines accused the Alis of trespass by building their extension on three inches of the Constantine garden. Now, a court has decided that the Constantines must move out of their home in less than three weeks and hand the seven-bedroom £600,000 home to the Alis to sell to cover their legal fees. Legal papers show that £132,544 from the sale will pay the Ali family's legal fees - the remainder will be given back to the Constantines
The Sun reports Yvette Constantine, 57, and husband Herman, 66, who have three adult children, have been left devastated by the ruling, which means they could be left homeless over Christmas.
The Constantines had accused the Alis of knocking down their fence and building an extension three inches into their garden when they were on holiday back in 2009, and the case ended up in the Civil Courts in 2012.
A judge sided with the Alis and the Constantines lost their subsequent appeals, and have now been ordered to leave their home by January 5 and hand over the house to cover their neighbours' legal fees.
Sardar Ali, 62, his wife Haliman and their son Tajammul, 36, have been given the right to sell the property in East Ham, east London, for at least £500,000.
Legal papers show that £132,544 from the sale will pay the Ali family's legal fees.

Contrast this with olive oil, which has been shown in studies to improve memory impairment in patients with Alzheimer’s. It also reduces the levels of the amyloid plaques in the brain that are linked to tissue loss and cell death in those with this degenerative illness.

In this study, researchers used an animal model that mimics Alzheimer’s in humans as it progresses from the asymptomatic early stages to the full-blown disease. The mice were placed into two groups when they were six months old. One consumed a normal diet, and the other received a normal diet along with the equivalent of two tablespoons of canola oil per day.

When they were assessed a year later, the most obvious difference was the significant weight gain noted in the animals who ate the diet rich in canola oil. Maze tests showed that the animals also had working memory impairments.

When their brain tissue was examined, the mice who ate canola oil had far lower levels of a peptide that protects neurons from damage known as amyloid beta 1-40. They also had higher amounts of amyloid plaques in their brains. In addition, they had a significant reduction in the number of contacts between their neurons, which is a sign of extensive injury.

The researchers say that it’s a big mistake to consider this a healthy oil or to place it on the same level as oils that have proven benefits for your health.

Next, the researchers would like to conduct a study to find out if using canola oil in the short term can lead to damage. In addition, they feel a longer study looking into just how extensive this harm is could be helpful.

Lots of reasons to avoid canola oil

Harvard School of Public Health Adjunct Associate Professor Dr. Guy Crosby told the Daily Mail there are lots of reasons to be concerned about canola oil.

“Most canola is chemically extracted using a solvent called hexane, and heat is often applied which can affect the stability of the oil’s molecules, turn it rancid, destroy the omega-3s in it, and can even create trans fats,” he said.

Trans fats are linked to serious health problems, such as systemic inflammation and a higher risk of developing stroke, heart disease, and type 2 diabetes. And don’t forget the weight gain!

Because canola oil comes from genetically modified rapeseeds, it can reduce kidney and liver function and increase cancer risk.

On top of that, it can deplete your body’s levels of vitamin E and raise your triglycerides by more than 40 percent. It has been linked to a rise in lung cancers, and it increases membrane rigidity, triggering degenerative diseases.

In short, if you care about your health, you’d do well to avoid this nasty oil and stick to natural fats like olive oil and butter."

"Ukrainian chess champion Anna Muzychuk refused to defend her titles in Riyadh this week due to the nation’s abhorrent record on women’s rights.
“As to whether it was right or wrong, there will certainly be people who will support me and people who will condemn me,” Muzychuk said. “But I took this decision and I am responsible for it.”

Saudi Arabia ended a ban on women driving in September but the conservative kingdom’s male guardianship system requires women to have a male relative’s approval for decisions on issues like education, employment, marriage and travel plans…
In what the World Chess Federation (FIDE) called an “historic agreement”, Saudi Arabia relaxed its dress code for the tournament, which has a total prize pot of $2 million.
This meant women would not need to wear the hijab or abaya — the loose-fitting, full-length robes that women are typically expected to wear. Instead, inside the venue, women could wear dark formal trouser suits and high-necked white blouses.
But these changes did not go far enough for Muzychuk.
Instead, Muzychuk has decided to boycott the tournament because the nation continues to oppress women, treating them as second class citizens.
“I have refused to go,” Muzychuk said. “It was certainly quite difficult to take such a decision because I am a current world champion in these chess disciplines – rapid chess and blitz. So if I do not participate in this tournament, I will lose both titles.”
However, there are other reason for Muzychuk to boycott the tournament… like the fact that Saudi’s are racists and have refused to entry to Israeli chess players.
It’s a move that should shame the World Chess Federation (FIDE) who scheduled the tournament in Saudi Arabia. The nation has refused entry to seven Israeli players, proving that they have no right to be hosting a competitive tournament of any kind.

On Sunday, Moshe Shalev, the interim head of the Israel Chess Federation, told The Times of Israel that the seven players had not been granted visas, despite indications last month that they would make history by being the first representatives of the Jewish state to publicly take part in an event hosted by the kingdom, which does not officially recognize the State of Israel.
Seven Israeli players had filed requests for visas to participate in the games to be held in Riyadh on December 26-30, as part of the world rapid and blitz chess championships.
If the players are not allowed to participate in the tournament, Israel will consider suing FIDE for the hateful treatment of their players.
ICF head Moshe Shalev said ​they would consider suing the World Chess Federation, an attempt to deter more discrimination against Israelis from happening in the future.
According to Aizenberg, the tournament’s winners can receive up to $2 million in cash prizes and therefore the ban “presents both economic and professional damage to your players.”
“And besides, it is our right to be treated as equal among all nations of the world,” he said.
“It is most outrageous that FIDE allows a state to agree to host an international championship, without promising to accept all athletes, regardless of their country of origin,” added Aizenberg.
Again, Saudi Arabia (and any other nation refusing access to players based solely on their ethnic/national heritage) should not be allowed to host such international competitive events."

"Want to exercise your constitutionally enshrined freedom of religion? If you live in Oregon, it’ll cost you $135,000.
That was at least the lesson handed down by a three-judge panel from the Oregon Court of Appeals on Thursday, when it upheld a massive penalty against a pair of bakers who declined to make a cake for a same-sex wedding back in 2013.
According to The Daily Signal, the husband-and-wife team of Aaron and Melissa Klein — who have already had to close their bakery due to a boycott — will now have to pay a $135,000 fine levied by a state agency.

The three-judge panel found that baking a cake did not count as “speech, art, or other expression” which would have been protected by the First Amendment.
Instead, the court found that the request to bake a cake for a same-sex wedding ceremony did not “impermissibly burden the Kleins’ right to the free exercise of religion” since they would only have to comply with “a neutral law of general applicability.”
The case has been the subject of much controversy after the Kleins refused to bake a cake for the wedding of Rachel and Laurel Bowman-Cryer, a lesbian couple, citing their Christian beliefs that marriage was between one man and one woman,

“We are very disappointed in the court’s decision,” said Michael Berry, deputy general counsel at First Liberty Institute, a religious liberty nonprofit that represents the Kleins.
“I think that punishing people for their religious beliefs is … not American, and it’s wrong.”

Meanwhile, one of the plaintiffs in the case tacitly compared what the Kleins did to segregation in the Jim Crow South.
“It does not matter how you were born or who you love,” Laurel Bowman-Cryer, one half of the lesbian couple who brought the complaint, said in a statement.
“All of us are equal under the law and should be treated equally. Oregon will not allow a ‘Straight Couples Only’ sign to be hung in bakeries or other stores.”

That all sounds very powerful and moving until you realize there is practically no equivalence between the two situations. Unlike Jim Crow, where widespread, state-sanctioned discrimination was used to reify a racial caste system, the Kleins were simply following the tenets of their religious faith.

No matter what you may feel about what the Bible says regarding homosexuality and its sinfulness, few would demur at acknowledging that it is, after all, in there. And, while some of our less educated compatriots might not know the exact language of the First Amendment — “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof” — there’s nearly universal awareness that the most widely celebrated tenth of the Bill of Rights allows Americans the freedom to practice their faith freely.

And yet, we have come to a juncture in our nation’s history where it isn’t enough for people to lose their livelihood over exercising their First Amendment rights, as the Kleins did when their business collapsed following the outcry over their decision to follow their faith. Sweet Cakes by Melissa, the bakery run by the couple, was forced out of business following the boycott — which, while somewhat punitive, is certainly protected under the First Amendment’s guarantee of the freedoms of speech of association. You know, the same First Amendment whose protections the Klein’s persecutors aren’t too jazzed about.
No, instead, Aaron and Melissa Klein must be forced into penury by a $135,000 fine, a levy no middle-class American family could reasonably afford. While the Kleins have collected significant amounts of money from supporters, the Oregonian reported they’ve said almost all of that has gone to legal fees.
Even if you believe that the Kleins’ actions aren’t constitutional and are in need of legal rebuke, do you believe that punishment fits this “crime?” Can you honestly convince yourself that justice, mercy and harmony hath increased in America by means of this draconian sanction?
And make no mistake, the state intends to collect: Brad Avakian, Oregon’s labor commissioner, affirmed that the $135,000 from the Kleins remains in escrow for the Bowman-Cryers.
After the court’s decision, Berry and others from the First Liberty Institute are looking at ways forward for the couple.
“We’re evaluating our options at this point, obviously in terms of whether we are going to appeal, etc., and we’ll discuss all those options with Aaron and Melissa Klein and decide on the best course of action for them,” Berry said. This could include an appeal to the Oregon Supreme Court.

Kelly Shackelford, president and CEO of First Liberty Institute, may have summed it up best in a written statement.
“Freedom of expression for ourselves should require freedom of expression for others,” Shackelford said.
“In a diverse and pluralistic society, people of good will should be able to peacefully coexist with different beliefs. We are disappointed that the court ruled against the Kleins.”
“I think it’s a sad day for our Constitution and for the rule of law in this country when a family-owned bakery can be put out of business simply for trying to follow their religious beliefs,” he added.
That, alas, is where the left has been going for quite some time now. Pluralism cannot be an option when there’s only one politically correct set of beliefs an individual can allowed to have.
And it isn’t enough for unpopular beliefs to be punished via social ostracism, either. The government must get in on it, as well — and if a $135,000 fine is what it takes, then a $135,000 fine it is.
The Supreme Court heard an argument earlier this month about a similar case from Colorado, as Christianity Today reported. Conservatives can only hope the highest court in the land can restore some sanity to this outrage."

"What happens when people with Christian worldviews and traditional family values are openly persecuted by the government?

That appears to be what is already happening in Canada, and a disturbing trend within our northern neighbor should serve as a warning of what may be coming to the United States soon.

In the province of Alberta, a couple hoping to adopt a child has had their application rejected by the government. The reason? They happen to personally believe that marriage is between a man and a woman.

“The Edmonton married couple say they submitted their application last year and passed a required course for potential adoptive parents,” reported CBC News. “But during a followup by officials this year, the couple say they ran into trouble when they answered questions about sexuality.”

Government workers forced the married couple to defend their views on gay marriage and homosexuality.

The couple, whose names have not been released for privacy reasons, explained that, as Christians, they do not personally believe that homosexuality is right. At the same time, they recognize that same-sex marriage is legal.

This answer is both honest and fairly straightforward. After all, there are many hot-button topics like gun rights and abortion that individuals can disagree on personally while still respecting the law.

Incredibly, the government told the prospective parents that their answer was unacceptable, and holding a traditional view of marriage disqualified them from ever adopting a child.

“The casework supervisor explained that our religious beliefs regarding sexuality were incompatible with the adoption process,” the couple explained in a court affidavit. “The casework supervisor said this stance was the ‘official position of the Alberta government.'”

Canadian officials also demanded answers to other personal questions, such as how the couple would deal with a child who was questioning his or her sexuality.

“The couple told officials that children should be taught that sexuality should not be experienced or explored until a person is an adult and is married,” reported CBC. In other words, they took a stance that used to be called “traditional values” and “common sense.”

Remember, these aren’t people who are pushing an anti-gay agenda or badmouthing the law. They’re simply Christians hoping to adopt a child.

The hopeful parents “said they treat all people with respect and their views on sexuality would have no bearing on their ability to provide a loving, secure and happy home to a child,” CBC reported.

Government officials disagreed. They are now essentially punishing citizens for refusing to parrot progressive talking points on sexuality and politics.

“The respondent (Alberta) requires citizens to profess agreement with and support for its state-sanctioned beliefs in sexuality and gender,” explained the Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedoms, which is pushing for a judicial review on behalf of the couple.

“Making determinations about who is suitable to adopt on the basis of their sincere religious beliefs violates this couple’s right to religious freedom and equality under the law,” the organization elaborated.

The group also pointed out that a belief in traditional marriage is hardly some radical view, but is the widespread stance of many Catholics, other Christians, Muslims and Orthodox Jews.

Keep in mind, Canada has its own version of the First Amendment in its constitution, which guarantees religious freedom to citizens.

“Everyone has the following fundamental freedoms: Freedom of conscience and religion; Freedom of thought, belief, opinion and expression,” declares the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

Instead, the government is now discriminating against religious people.

This is alarming, and even individuals who are not particularly religious should recognize that using the government to attack common conservative views is a slippery slope that leads to a very dangerous place.

Canada is a canary in the mine shaft of liberalism, and trends there are right around the corner for Americans.

Make no mistake: The “social justice” crowd will use anything possible as a political weapon… and that sadly includes denying parenthood to couples that simply want to raise children in a loving home.

More importantly, it also includes depriving a child of the love and care of committed adoptive parents."
