The 144000 called

I believe we can gain some special insight as to the order of things as we study what our leaders have spoken about the 144000 called. All of these are direct quotes from General Authorities, First Presidency, Twelve Apostles and Prophets. I have the references if anyone would like them. I have written all the information that is contained in these quotes by copying them directly from the material.

Who they are:
1. one hundred and forty-four thousand high priests, ordained unto "the holy order of God to administer the gospel
2. sealed unto the twelve tribes of Israel
3. Ordained out of every nation, kindred, tongue and people" by the instrumentation of the angels
4. will be caught up to meet Christ at his coming
5. his Father's name written on their foreheads
6. specially called by the power of "the angels
7. shall stand upon Mount Zion
8. selection of persons to form that number had already commenced.
9. clothed in white raiment
10. washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb
11. were they next the throne and serve their Maker day and night
12. had come up through much tribulation

What they do:

The Mount Zion spoken of is identified by latter-day revelation as the New Jerusalem to be built in Jackson County, Missouri. (D. & C. 84:1-4.)

In terms of chronology, aren't the 144,000 called and sealed after the coming of Christ to the temple in New Jerusalem? And after a great upheaval of the earth's surface which will cast up a highway in the midst of the great deep and will cause the boundaries of the everlasting hills to tremble per D&C 133:27? And aren't the Lamanites gathered in after the building of the New Jerusalem per 3 Nephi 21:22-22:3?

truthseeds, thanks for the additional research. The 144,000 will be set apart at AOA and be commissined to go forth to the nations at NJ at the end of the Tribulation period. The great earthquake will occur at the very beginning of the Judgement period and mark the beginning of their actual travels to gather in the remaining children of Isarel and any gentiles who repent before the final judgements occur which will kill millions/day.

Truth
The 144000 are present at AOA when the keys are given to Christ. They are either called at that time or already called. At this meeting the plans for the construction of the NJ and the preaching of the Gospel throughout the world are set forth. The plans for the gathering of the lamanites are also laid out. When the keys are transferred to Christ, the Saints will no longer suffer at the hands of Satan, he will no longer have power over them.
However, the rest of the world will still be in turmoil and wickedness. Christ visits NJ several times during and after its construction. The Ten Tribes begin their decent to NJ to receive their ordinances and then eventually return to the lands of their inheritance after Jerusalem is cleansed.
It will be years from the time AOA happens and Christ appears in Jerusalem.

The Transfer of Authority

The action that will be of the greatest importance to the world will be the transfer of authority from the usurper and imposter, Lucifer, to the rightful King, Jesus Christ. How can that be? If 12K are from each tribe, then they of the 11 tribes besides Judas are not descendants of Christ.

Here's something about the 144K I'd like to know:

Are they protected from death or will some of them suffer death during their missions (hence their calling and elections made sure prior to going forth).? My thoughts were that some would be slain for their testimony, but I'm not sure.

Gruden, remember that Ephriam and Manasseh the two sons of Jospeh replaced Dan. I don't think there is anything cannonical as to wht Dan is NOT included in the 144,000???

Gruden, IF I'm correct the two witnesses in Old Jeruslaem are from the 144,000 and they were killed but arose in three day. My guess is that yes the 144,000 will be miracioulsy protected but some will die having their calling and election sure. I believe that at AOA this election will be part of the setting apart.

The tribes listed by John include Levi, count Ephraim (Joseph) and Manasseh separately, and omit Dan. Why Dan should lose his inheritance is not clear. Perhaps it is forecast in the patriarchal blessings given by Jacob to the head of the tribe: "Dan shall be a serpent by the way, an adder in the path." (Gen. 49:17.) Or perhaps it is because a long course of idolatry and warlike conduct dissipated the strength of the Danites and left them less powerful and numerous than their fellows in Israel. (Judges 18; Jer. 8:16; Amos 8:11-14.)

"Dear Brother: In the name of Jesus Christ I lay my hands on thy head and pray God the Eternal Father that the vision of my mind may be opened . . . Thou art of the tribe of Dan, yet if thou art faithful thou shalt attain to all the promised blessings." (Blessing by Joseph Smith, Sen.)

When John recorded his vision of the special mission for 12,000 of each of the tribes of Israel, he named Levi, Manasseh, and Joseph (meaning Ephraim) in the list and for some reason that is not apparent left out the tribe of Dan. (Rev. 7; D. & C. 77:11.) Scholars speculate that "the tribe of Dan is not mentioned, perhaps because of a Jewish tradition that Antichrist was to come from the tribe." (Dummelow, The One Volume Bible Commentary, p. 1079.)

John indicates that the 144,000 will be those sealed from all the tribes of Israel. Curiously, he leaves out Dan, adds Levi, and has Joseph taking the place of Ephraim to get twelve tribes. The Seer gives no hint why he left out Dan. Some early Christians believed that John dropped the tribal name because of a tradition that the Antichrist would arise from there. The disfavor into which Dan fell goes all the way back to 1 Chronicles 7, which also omits Dan from the list of tribes. It may be that Dan's association with idolatry marked the tribe for omission since Jeroboam set up his idols in that tribal territory (see Judg. 18:30; 1 Kgs. 12:29). Since John was writing in part against the influences of idolatry invading the church, he may have omitted Dan as a warning.

I don't have the books in front of me to reference it, but I have read from a number of church sources which state the omission of Dan was a recording and/or translation error.
