Not another thread about this (Tent Cities)

Post by setyourselffree »

I have been thinking a lot about this, and I hope we do go to tent cities. I think this would be so wonderful to wake up by family and members of the Church everyday. It would be a wonderful environment to raise kids outside of Babylon, plus I love the outdoors. It would be like Heaven here on Earth. I cannot even imagine how many miracles would be performed and how much joy would be had in a situation like that. Honestly it doesn't sound like tribulations at all it sounds wonderful. Bring it on!!!!

Note, although it would be cool to have tent cites, I still think Julie and Hector are full of it.

What is the longest you've ever camped in the snow? My experience has been that after about four days you need some place to chisel the ice off your... tent. :-ss

Now, I will confess that summer time is MUCH better for tent life. The only thing to worry about then is bears and mosquitoes, or at worst, bears riding mosquitoes.

I agree. The problems I see with tent cities are going to be 1) snow, because winter camping is arduous; and 2) the bums who didn't get their acts together and prepare are going to be leeching off everyone else, shacking up in my spike tent w/ wood stove. I'm ready and willing to share with someone who loses his gear through calamity, but I'll be pissed at my neighbors who willfully aren't preparing.

From what it sounds like the Church will have Winter tents prepared for everyone. If they don't everyone will die! We only need to have enough food supply for everyone for about 6 months until we can grow crops. Plus no one would be eating there own food storage; once you get to camps it would all be redistributed, like Socialism only Better! :) I don't think you will get to keep any of your own stuff. They will take your tent and probably redistribute it to a single mother with kids.

I live in Kansas and we took our local scout troop out a couple nights ago. It got down to about 0 degrees and we were sleeping in a tent that is meant for the summer. Needless to say I froze my A$$ off. I will say I had a 20 degree sleeping bag and didn't bring a set of fresh socks (big mistake) I was not prepared at all.

Tent cities sound great....... washing clothes by hand, washing bodies, cooking, fetching water, not being able to stand up straight (in the tent), sanitation (going to the loo in the night!), disease, cold, rain, heat........ like I say, sounds great!

Like the bear that snatched the 10 yr old out of the tent in American Fork canyon in 2007. Knew the folks camped in that spot the night before where bear just took a pillow...

It's not like these camps won't be protected by the Lord and by members of the camp. I.E people in trees being a lookout.

I guess if you are a woman then yes it sounds horrible. The men won't have to wash clothes by hand and cook and fetch water, they will be working in the field, and hanging out in trees.

Cool - so something like a Boy Scout camp for us dudes, and something like a P.O.W. camp for women? Who could resist such a luxurious resort!

That is how I imagine it. Kinda like how it is now. I go to work and have fun, hang out with my friends, and come home to my kids and perfect wife. Only she has been miserable all day because of doing housework and kid stuff. So wouldn't imagine much will change. It will be like a big camp full of Mom's for the dudes. Even the old women will get back into the act of taking care of us.

I think I understand why Sariah was complaining now.... It's gotta be hard scrubbing robes out in the middle of a desert. X(

What did the 10 yr old do wrong? Campground was protected by Fish n' Game who chased the bear with couple dogs the night before for a couple miles.

Big tent with a divider...dad woke up to hear his kid screaming as the bear dragged him out the other side in his sleeping bag...

Bingo! Nephi got to do man stuff like hunt and build a ship. Lehi got to do old man stuff like sleep and have visions. Totally kidding of course, but one could take it that way. I think the women will be the ones going through the tribulations and the men will be mostly vacationing in tent cities.

Even though I do believe in a callout, doesn't mean I want to do it. I think I would rather tough it out in my home. Summer would be fine. Winter would be horrendous. I hate being cold for 30 seconds. I could sweat and survive just fine. But I hate being dirty. I love most people but I don't want to be forced to be with them all of the time. I think as people become a Zion people a lot of those issues would be alleviated. I need to work on my faith.

I remember going winter camping, -30 to -40 C nights, I was fully prepared and that was not something I'd want to do for more then a weekend lol
I don't think I'd have what it takes anymore lol
Outdoors has a lot of little things no one really thinks about, that and not everywhere is like the middle of the US, some places have more cold, more snow and far more animals.

Dear Lord above, look down on us from on high and have mercy on us in these last days, free us from the lunacy of people who never grew up.

In the late 70's & early 80's I remember a growing movement of people who knew the world was going to be coming to an end. Gun shows became all the rage, and some of the booths that attracted the most attention were survivalist companies who preached gloom and doom for people who didn't have their latest 46 function survive-all-in-a can product they were selling. Oddly enough, the economy didn't explode ruining society as we know it, people kept working, our debt became bigger while music players were becoming smaller. See The Survivors if you want a good laugh about those dark days.

Late end of the 80's there were more doom and gloom sayers, I remember because one of my cousins told me God told him when our country would die and he sold a lot of their stuff to buy a big van so they could drive around as a family to scavenge the things they needed to survive once that (never really clarified what "it" was) happened. Oddly, the date came and went without global catastrophe.

A bunch of weirdos over on another "LDS themed" website led the crusade for "Tent cities" for the "Call out" we're all going to get from the prophet, but oddly enough the prophet himself didn't say anything about it.(Incidentally, I associate the term "call out" with being challenged to a fight in the school yard after school went out - Those call outs made more sense to me than a tent city call out.) Add to that a couple of "Reality TV" programs about doomsday preppers, often charming individuals with such social hang-ups even the banjo kid in Deliverance looked down on them with pity. I guess they wanted to prepare us for the Kardashians to be let loose on us.

I remember our church leaders telling us we need food storage to help us prepare for life's challenges. I agree with that completely. Like most people, I like to be prepared for many different situations, and having a 72 hour emergency kit does make good sense. However, I've seen far too many people going into serious debt so they can spend 5 years worth of income at Emergency Essentials and Kirkham's to be ready when we have to drop our everything and go live in the freakin' desert and eat horned toads and jack rabbit stew while people are decomposing in the streets in the now deserted cities.

I'll admit, I've been to SCA gatherings and extended camping trips, and we always have a good time (for those who are unaware, SCA is a group that takes "Renaissance Faire" to the next level by having actual battles in period costumes with blunted weapons - It's great good fun.) Afterwards, we pack up and go home to do 3 straight days of laundry and get ready to go back to our jobs so we can make enough money to afford another trip later or next year. It's not "Life" it's escape from life. Being prepared for as many contingencies and problems as we can is great, but I hate to see when people put so much time, effort, and money into prepping maniacally for something that isn't going to happen when they can be putting those talents and resources to good use.

If you enjoy playing "Mad Max" then by all means, get a bronze badge and a Ford Falcon XB GT coupe and put a Weiand blower on it. However, if I may, don't sell your baby to pay for it, don't use every last resource you have building a travois to haul a tent around the West Utah desert, and DO listen to our inspired leaders for guidance, not Nat Geo Wild directors or the latest and greatest near-death experience savior among men. Chances are you'll live long enough to collect Social Security, but don't count on anything being in it at the time. Put your money away safely.

My concern with Tent Cites, other than my belief that JR, Spencer, Sosa, RKY, and the rest of them are full of it, is exactly that - the lack of indoor plumbing! I don't know about you all, but I've reached the age where a hot shower and flush toilets are pretty much a necessity! :)

I'm starting to re-think this whole tent-city thing...maybe there is something to it after all.

We all know and the demongraphics of JR's target audience bears this out that women are more righteous then men. That means there will be more women than men in tent-cites. Therefore this will be the time that polygamy is reinstituted :ymparty: I'm thinking of repenting and listening and living by every word that comes forth from the mouth of JR so i can be one of the "chosen" men in the camps :D

The entire purpose is to make a Zion society, what will it take to get people to forsake the entire world and overcome the natural man. Nothing but great tribulations. Bring it on let the church be purged to hell and back, a total separation of the intertwined wheat and tares.

Revelation 7:14
14 And I said unto him, Sir, thou knowest. And he said to me, These are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.

Of course...that's with the perspective that you think you are one of the wheat...and somehow will be spared...which may or may not be true...
