The Saviours Atonement

Post by Dusty52 »

I read somewhere that the saviour was born and died here on earth and that there are other worlds which rely on his mission here on our earth and more particularly the atonement
Is this true?

My understanding is the atonement applies to all worlds in this creation. Always ready for further light and knowledge, but I guess I don;t see this as being important for us to understand at this point.

Scriptures make it clear that Saviour is the creator of many worlds:
And worlds without number have I created; and I also created them for mine own purpose; and by the Son I created them, which is mine Only Begotten
Moses 1:32–33
That by him, and through him, and of him, the worlds are and were created, and the inhabitants thereof are begotten sons and daughters unto God
D&C 76:22–24
Since he is the creator and thus involved with other worlds, one could think that he is also the redeemer of those worlds.
When this question was asked in November 1985 issue of New Era, professor Larry C. Porter quoted the above scriptures in his answer. He also pointed out that during the Nauvoo period Times and Seasons published a poetic rendition of "the Vision", i.e. D&C 76. In this poetic version, Prophet says:
By him, of him, and through him, the worlds were all made,

Even all that career in the heavens so broad,

Whose inhabitants, too, from the first to the last,

Are sav’d by the very same Saviour of ours;

And, of course, are begotten God’s daughters and sons.

By the very same truths, and the very same pow’rs.

Personally, I believe each world has its own Savior. That is the truth as I have come to understand it. But I believe that our Savior's atonement applies to us eternally, meaning during our later eternal lives. In that sense, the atonement of one savior applies to many people on many worlds in different stages, but does not apply to every person on every world.

I am not 100% clear on the latter point. But I'm learning more every day.
