Re: Spelling / grammar...
The Oxford comma is commonly left out of sentences with a series of three or more terms, especially by Americans.jbalm wrote:You forgot to put a comma after "grammar."Regina wrote:The formation of posts on this forum, including spelling and grammar is atrocious...

A list is not the only the thing calls for a comma.coachmarc wrote:The Oxford comma is commonly left out of sentences with a series of three or more terms, especially by Americans.jbalm wrote:You forgot to put a comma after "grammar."Regina wrote:The formation of posts on this forum, including spelling and grammar is atrocious...

No one is forcing anyone else to read posts that annoy them.

Commas are also needed to set off parenthetical elements, like "including spelling and grammar."coachmarc wrote:The Oxford comma is commonly left out of sentences with a series of three or more terms, especially by Americans.jbalm wrote:You forgot to put a comma after "grammar."Regina wrote:The formation of posts on this forum, including spelling and grammar is atrocious...

"Even with the help of spell check?" is not a question. Where is the main clause?Regina wrote:Are Americans unable to spell even US English? Even with the help of spell check?
One does not know there are mistakes before reading, therefore that comment is ridiculous.

I think we're just having fun. (They weren't all flippant. You really did use a sentence fragment.)
My son has dyslexia. He is very intelligent, but he will never be able to spell.
He will go through his life being judged/criticized by people for it. It makes me sad that we can't just accept people as they are.
I notice the misspellings, but they don't bother me so much, now that I see what he goes through.

You forgot some commas. The problem is that the kettle is calling the pots black.Regina wrote:Flippant comments which mean nothing do not address this basic glaring problem.

Re: Spelling / grammar...
Ever since the fall of the Tower of Babel, language has continued to change from generation to generation. What we call "proper English" would sound very strange to speakers of the language from a couple of centuries back. Our language is truly confounded and will remain such until the languages become one again. One could find it beneficial to study to proper execution of English (or one's own native tongue) but I see no benefit in being critical of others use of the language.
