Yes, a non Snuffer would be a wonderful idea to even things up even if it's just barely. Other past mods like Jason and chelC saw the one sided hypocrisy and backed out or left completely.
A good mod on this forum moderates whether they agree with the situation or not. That means you moderate your own friends who are breaking the rules, and you moderate those you agree with who are breaking the rules. As a moderator, you commit to uphold the forum rules whether you agree with the rules or not. You respect that this is Brian's place, and you do things according to the way he wants them done, not your own personal preference. It also means you tolerate all the abuse you get from people who think you are being unfair and "satanic" - and from those who think you are victimizing them and not moderating others who break the rules.

Sorry Jason and ChelC couldn't handle it.
Hmm, I guess there are no good mods according to your definition. The problem with biases is the rarity of one recognizing they have one, you and I both included. We could bring up my one year ban for not being nice when I wasn't mean compared to statements from someone like aussieoi who was given chance after chance after chance after chance after chance. Get my point? But aussieoi was anti church so he got the pass time and time again. I'd love to see your reasoning on that one! :ymsick:
In fact my so called meanness was right in line in context with Brent's meanness. Of course he was never banned, but then he's anti church too. No pattern to see folks, keep towing the same line. Those silly biases.

But that's all water under the bridge. I'm glad Brian sees a need for improved moderating.

I joined because of the contentious threads. I thought is was cool that there was a place that people could hash out ideas. The problem is, I think we are all too overly sensitive about the ideas we hold. Chill.

I was watching NJB speak about the forum and it seemed to me that he was transfigured so that he looked and sounded just like BrianM. Granted, that was like 40 years ago. I only just wrote about it in my journal today.....

I'm not sure where your bitterness toward me is coming from. I don't recall handling any moderation of your posts - ever. And I don't know when you became the judge of what Brian wants on his forum. Maybe you should ask him (or read the rules and guidelines - that will answer it for everyone).

BTW, several of the people you generally complain about have been permanently banned. Even if they are my friends or have similar beliefs, I agree with those bans and have warned those people myself more than once before Brian perma-banned them. It's funny how everyone seems to think they know all that goes on behind the scenes. Just because it's not announced publicly doesn't mean it isn't being taken care of - regardless of who those people are.

Did you ask Brian what his reasons are for this thread and for seeking additional mods? Or you making assumptions?

Are you trying to turn this into a "bash the mods" thread, or do you have some recommendations for Brian?

This is a great idea, I love to learn about the gospel and I see both sides of the fence but I dont want to be a moderator but I dont like my beliefs to be bashed either way, I have been called a snufferite and a sheep follower, Im here to discuss doctrine not to be harassed for my beliefs, I personally like Jules, I feel she has always been fair on both sides, and coachmarc is pretty fair, how a bout Jarodalmond? :)

Moderator's should be peacekeepers. As moderator's we should do our best to set a good example, be respectful, tactful and diplomatic in our participation in forum discussions - and especially when communicating with others in your role as a moderator.
BrianM - fortunately, I aspire to no high callings (mod is second only to creator, right?) AND I fail virtually every other criteria outlined in your OP, so I'm out of the running.

I am a rookie to forums - thus is the only one I have ever registered on. out of curiosity, what are the time commitments for being an effective mod? I've seen people accuse Jules of monitoring 24/7. does that mean 24 hours a day, 7 days a week or 24 hours a month, 7 months a year? I really have no idea what it would take to do it reasonably well. maybe with a realistic understanding of the time commitment people would feel more comfortable volunteering.

i will not be so bold as to offer a name when I am unwilling / unable to serve.

Ironic, isn't it? Jules is accused of policing 24/7. I'm pretty sure she has better things to do. I'm on here frequently, too, and I have locked threads, issued warnings, etc. and it isn't fun. I guess like with church, people would rather be "out there" than "in here." And as with most wards I've been in, few are volunteers. We must be commanded in all things. Home teaching is low among all the wards/EQs I've been in. The busiest of us are always the ones getting it done. /off rant.

I'm not accusing Jules - I'm repeating hyperbole that has been written before. I'm sure she's not 24/7, but I know she's very committed to helping people who are willing to be open minded.

I'm unable because I'd have to ban myself within the first week. We're not all possessed of a calm, charitable personality...

interesting proposal hyloglyph. Brian, no grown ups in the living room for a week?

8-| May the Lord bless you in your busy righteousness.

I'll volunteer, but warning, I'll pretty much let everything go. I usually can't wait for the next response on a contentious thread and I'm usually pissed when they get locked.

One thing I am not is righteous. Busy, yes. Righteous? Far from it.

I'll do it if nobody else moderates my posts. And if I can get rid of the automatic censoring (sometimes, ideas are best conveyed with no-no words).

But mostly, I'd like to add my own comments to other people's sig lines (e.g. "Disregard all posts due to persistent sphincticiousness").

Let the unrighteous dominion begin!

Considering history since I've been moderating, posting porn, telling people to eff-off, outright threatening to physically harm others, libel and defaming others, posting graphic pictures of bodies being ripped apart and dismembered, sexually harassing others, saying and threatening things that could ruin marriages, mocking people's disabilities, saying and threatening things that could cost people their church membership, blackmailing and manipulating others, posting personal information to expose people's private lives...

I'm not part of the Heavenly Forum group. I have no bias one way or another towards so-called "brethrenite" and "snufferite" groups. I'm Facebook friends with people from diverse "cliques" here on the forum. I can put my personal biases aside and moderate according the forum rules. I've never moderated before but would be willing to try and have a go at it. :D (also I think I've matured as a poster in the four years I've been a member of this forum).

There is no required time commitment other than just expecting the moderators will do at least something moderator related.. The moderators don't have to spend any extra time on the forum than they already would have... it's just that if they come across something that is a concern they should take appropriate action. The more moderators we have the less of a burden it is on each one. Some moderators, like Jules, have definitely been more pro-active - and I appreciate that very much.

I actually will volunteer, since there isn't a time commitment.

This should last about two days, tops.
