Lundbaek is my wife's family name. We will be off on another mission as of 1 Sept., and I don't expect to have time to correspond with you all as I have til now. Just a couple of things, though:

When extensive patterns emerge, especially over a period of decades, on matters of far reaching importance, there comes a point where such patters should be brought to the attention of as many people as possible as information of value which should be evaluated by comparison with existing facts, and in our case, with scripture and with what I’ll call “official prophecy”, and with certain carefully selected “unofficial prophecy”.

In my lifetime, the U.S.A. got into WW2 officially due to a conspiracy involving FDR and some of his military staff and civilian “advisors”. America fought WW2 supposedly to protect Europe from Germany and to save China from Japan. But I believe the real reason was to protect the USSR and create the formidable enemy that it became. At the end of that war, American traitors gave the Soviets all of Eastern Europe, Manchuria, the Kurile Islands, the Chinese port of Darien, the northern half of Korea, and half of Germany. In Yugoslavia, they guaranteed the success of Communism by throwing America’s weight behind the Stalinist Tito in his fight against the pro-Western Mikhailovich. After the war, in a project called Operation Keelhaul, American troops were used to round up anti-Communist refugees all over Europe to be shipped back to Russia where they faced execution or slave labor in Siberia. Traitors in the U.S. State Dept. supported the Communist forces of Mao Tse-tung in their war against Chiang Kai-shek and actively worked behind the scenes to bring about the Communization of China. Under leadership of the American traitor Alger Hiss and the Russian Molotov, the United Nations was created and its Secretariat was staffed with Communists from the State Department. The Soviets were given three votes in the General Assembly, compared to one for us and it was agreed further that a Soviet national would always be in charge of U.N. military activities, which did wonders for Americans fighting in the Korean War. Algeria was pushed into the Communist camp by support of Ben Bella. Certain Americans helped Castro to power in Cuba and, later, betrayed the anti-Castro invasion force at the Bay of Pigs. In Korea and Vietnam, we denied our military forces the option of victory. In the case of Vietnam, some of you may remember, American aid was regularly sent to Communist countries that were sending aid to North Vietnam. Americans supported the Sandinista Communists in the takeover of Nicaragua. American traitors gave the Panama Canal to a pro-Soviet dictatorship. America has been bankrupted by foreign aid to our most bitter enemies around the world. Americans built much of Soviet industry and have given them high technology for their nuclear strike force. When they could not pay, their debts were forgiven and passed on to the American taxpayer.
Americans condemn anti-Communist regimes in Africa and Latin America allegedly for violations of human rights, but then invite to the White House and publicly embrace every Communist dictator in the world, no matter how bloody his mitts. And, while freedom fighters battled Soviet tanks in Hungary, Afghanistan and Poland, we gave the Soviets solemn assurances that we would not intervene and then sent economic aid to the very Communist governments which the people themselves are attempting to topple. If that isn’t a pattern....hardly even a complete one, truth be known.

The sad truth is that Communism would not be a major force and Globalism would not be a major threat today without the massive help received from the United States government, and that America's retreat from victory since World War II is the result, not of a confusion factor, but of the subversion factor.

Somewhere on the forum, Brian recommended a list of books that included Skousen’s “The Naked Capitalist”, and another by Gerald Nyquist. I think he was recommending books that addressed what we think of as the NWO conspiracy, written by prominent members of the Church.

There is a host of other historians, investigative researchers, and “Johnny on the spot” people who are not LDS, but who have observed, experienced and reported events that certainly to me confirm the existence of the conspiracy we are concerned about. Just to mention a few:

Curtis Dall, a former son-in-law to FDR who spent much time in the White House, and who wrote about how, among other things, FDR was manipulated and given his “political ammunition” by the CFR;
Admiral Robert Theobald, who was at Pearl Harbour on 12/07/41, and went public in speeches and in a book about his convictions that President Roosevelt, General Marshall, then Chief of Staff, US Army, and Admiral Stark, Chief of Naval Operations, and certain members of their staffs knew primarily thru broken Japanese codes the intended time and place of the attack, and conspired to keep that knowledge from the commanders on Hawaii;

Carroll Quigley, a well known history professor, who wrote about the goals of the CFR in his “Tragedy and Hope” from having had access to its records and secret papers over a period of about 2 years;

Journalist Charley Reese, who investigated and reported on the attempted suppression of Quigley’s “Tragedy and Hope”;

Dan Smoot, former FBI agent and colleague and associate of W. Cleon Skousen, independent broadcaster, and originator and editor of The Dan Smoot Report , who investigated and reported in detail on America’s “Invisible Government”;

Chester Ward, a member of the CFR for some 16 years, who told us of the goals of the CFR to create a world socialist government;

Norman Dodd, Director of the Reece Commission, who learned from the horses’ mouths of and reported on a number of occasions his learning of the intent of elements in the U.S. FedGov and in NGOs to secure control of the State Dept. and the diplomatic machinery of the United States, deliberately involve the United States in war, and to merge the U.S.A. with the USSR;

Dr. Dennis Cuddy, who investigated and reported on many of the actions of the last century that promoted the Communist threat and the NWO and still does;

An acquaintance who while working for the CIA in the White House “Sit Room” discovered that certain U.S. congressmen were secretly supporting the Communist Sandanistas in Nicarauga;

Pat Robertson, who wrote in his 1990 book “The New World Order” of his experiences and discussions with key players in the promotion of the NWO;

The staff of the John Birch Society and editors of “The New American” who have been on the forefront of exposing many of the conspiracies that are destroying America, most recently the SPP and the North American Union;

There are lots of others who have done great work in exposing the NWO conspiracy, but about whom I know less that I do about these.

Folks willing to do their own homework will find the writings of the above people especially enlightening. And they should, hopefully, reinforce the First Presidency's messages Re. prepardness.

Pretty good stuff

Good detail for those who might want to explore.
What you are identifying is that- and you could have written that up for umpteen countries accross many centuries- it is the nature of pretty well all men to abuse their power and manipulate truth and people and events for gain.

The irony is that history is also full of such examples as you listed, where people were doing things they knew were morally ambigious, but they chose to sacrifice their personal standards/ feelings/ morals/ integrity/ values/ truth etc, as they considered the end justify the means, no matter how awful the means must be.

Beyond that, they reconcile that people aren't ready for the truth, they just want bread and circuses.

With that in mind, its not unsurprising all that you have written, what is most interesting is the personalities and events behind each of these events, including those which are going on right now.

Amen and Hallelujah!

<sarcasm>But the U.S. hasn't done that! It's a different world now with nuclear technology! Torture is fine if it's protecting countless numbers of people! Beating wives and children of terrorists is okay in a time of war!<sarcasm>

Somebody asked me what do I think is going on. I calls 'em as I sees 'em, and here's what I sees.

A secret combination, or conspiracy, that seeks to overthrow the freedom of and govern all lands, nations, and countries is increasing its evil influence and control over America and the entire world. The participants are satanically driven to build an integrated political and economic structure, a one world government. Their anticipated reforms will destroy national sovereignty, curtail personal liberties, and lead the world into governance by a socialist dictatorship.

The conspirators operate in an extremely efficient manner, at least at the higher levels of leadership. They make use of every means at their disposal, be they scientific, technical, social or economic. They hold almost complete sway in international organizations, in financial circles, in the field of mass communications; press, cinema, radio and television.

Such a world government can come together only after the Christian United States is out of the way. A vital, economically strong, Christian United States would have at its disposal the spiritual and material force to prevent Satan from totally winning his battle.

Thus, by destroying the wealth, freedom, and religious faith of the American people, they are striving to so alter life in the United States that we can be easily and comfortably merged first with Mexico and Canada, and then with other countries, including those already accustomed to totalitarian rule and greater corruption.

By causing the United States to spend its strength and means warring in foreign lands, they are tempting adversaries, their military forces previously and deliberately built up to a great extent by American wealth and technology, to take advantage of our planned weakness and attack America.

Satan has control now, governing nations, even in our own land. He is guiding the governments as far as the Lord will permit him. It is not the President of the United States, nor is it any other national ruler or head of state. It is not even the Latter Day Gadiantons who ultimately control our president and many in Congress from behind the scenes. It is Satan himself, guiding the invisible government working to convert America into a socialist state and then make it a unit in a one-world socialist system. That is why there is so much strife, turmoil, and confusion all over the earth.

As the forces of evil increase under Satan’s leadership and as the forces of good increase under the leadership of Jesus Christ, there will be growing battles between the two until the final confrontation. I have read “the book”, and in the end we win. But not without great suffering and loss of life, both temporal and eternal.

98:6

Post by lundbaek »

If there is one single verse of Scripture that has been ringing like a clarion call in my head in recent years, it is Verse 6 of the 98th Section of the Doctrine and Covenants. “Therefore, I, the Lord, justify you, and your brethren of my church, in befriending that law which is the constitutional law of the land;”. Given by the Lord Jesus Christ thru the Prophet Joseph Smith, at Kirtland, Ohio, August 6, 1833, its message is clear that “The saints are to befriend the constitutional law of the land.” as stated in the section outline. It is preceded in Verse 4 by the statement “it is my will that my people should observe to do all things whatsoever I command them.”, and I believe, it was well echoed and even magnified by then Apostle David O. McKay’s statement in the October 1939 General Conference that: “Next to being one in worshiping God, there is nothing in this world upon which this Church should be more united than in upholding and defending the Constitution of the United States.”

By revelation to the Prophet Joseph Smith, as recorded in Verse 80 of the 101st Section of the Doctrine and Covenants, the Lord declared that He had established the Constitution of the United States thru “wise men raised up unto this very purpose.” In the April 1918 General Conference Heber J. Grant stated: “I believe, as does our beloved President Joseph F. Smith, that the Constitution of the United States was written by the inspiration of Almighty God.” And in the April 1935 General Conference, President J. Ruben Clark said: “To me...that statement of the Lord, ‘I have established the Constitution of this land,’ puts the Constitution of the United States in the position in which it would be if it were written in this book of Doctrine and Covenants itself. This makes the Constitution the word of the Lord to us.”

In the April 1963 Conference, then Apostle Ezra Taft Benson said: “...the Lord told his prophet there would be an attempt to overthrow the country by destroying the Constitution.” And on another occasion he stated: For years we have heard of the role the elders could play in saving the Constitution from total destruction. But how can the elders be expected to save it if they have not studied it and are not sure if it is being destroyed or what is destroying it?” (TETB)

In the October 1966 General Conference President McKay stated: “We all know that...there has been an alarming increase in the abandoning of the ideals that constitute the foundation of the Constitution of the United States...”. Until rather recently certain General Authorities expressed similar concerns, but now it seems left to us to decide for ourselves if the situation has improved or worsened since then.

In the October 2001 General Conference, President Gordon B. Hinkley reminded us that “The Constitution under which we live....is our God-inspired national safeguard ensuring freedom and liberty, justice and equality before the law.”

Included in a First Presidency statement of 15 January 1987 is, I think clarification of what it means to “befriend” the US Constitution: “We encourage Latter-day Saints throughout the nation to familiarize themselves with the Constitution. They should focus attention on it by reading and studying it. They should ponder the blessings that come through it. They should recommit themselves to its principles and be prepared to defend it and the freedom it provides.”

In the April 1966 General Priesthood Meeting, Marion G. Romney stated in his opening remarks: “This is the first time I have ever attempted to give a talk a second time. My excuse is that the Brethren have asked me to give this talk here tonight” In it, he said: “[The Lord] has told us that in preparation for the restoration of the Gospel, He himself established the Constitution of the United States, and He has plainly told us why He established it....He said He established the Constitution to preserve to men their free agency, because the whole Gospel of Jesus Christ presupposes man’s untrammeled exercise of free agency. Man is in the earth to be tested. The issues as to whether he succeeds or fails will be determined by how he uses his agency. His whole future, through all eternity, is at stake. Abridge man’s agency, and the whole purpose of mortality is thwarted.”

Having presented what I have, I want to make it clear that I am not advocating the teaching of the US Constitution or of its principles as such in our church meetings. The time is past when we can make and hear statements such as the above, and others even stronger, over the pulpits and in our church classes. Members will have to find other routes over which to become involved in preserving the US Constitution and its principles. This includes self-study and discussions within the confines of our own homes and communities.

Active members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in general have many demands placed upon them, including providing for and spending quality time with their families, making time for personal and family prayers and Gospel study, engaging in missionary work, conducting family history research, attending the temple, going home and visiting teaching, and participating in other worthy activities. In spite of all these responsibilities, it appears we are also under obligation to defend and promote the freedoms that make all these activities possible.

Section 98 is amazing. Not only is it one of the best sections on the commandment to us to support the Constitution, it also is an excellent section on what our stance on war is as well. It seems more applicable than ever given the current state of affairs.

Dec. 7, Pearl Harbor Day

Post by lundbaek »

Every Dec. 7 I get grumpy over the continued discussion by the mainstream media about the Japanese alleged sneak attack on Pearl Harbor. "Day of Infamy"? On whose part? A few little tid bits that I've discovered over the years.

Thanks to the FOIA, several years ago a detailed 8-point plan referred to as “Lieutenant Commander Arthur McCollum’s Memorandum of October 7, 1940 ", was made public, although not yet ever publicized by the mainstream media. This "plan" spelled out 8 specific actions to provoke Japan into attacking the USA. Endorsed by a U.S.N. Captain Dudley Knox, every one of the recommended actions was taken by the FDR administration. A copy of this document appears in the appendix of thebook "Day Of Deceit" by Robert Stinnett. LCdr McCollum had spent several years before WW2 in Japan as a naval attache.

about 8 a.m. on December 4th, 1941, at a US Navy shortwave monitoring station in Cheltenham, Maryland, senior radio operator Ralph Briggs received the message he had been waiting for. The words were “East Wind - Rain”. Briggs immediately teletyped the message to Washington. He, alone among the radio operators at Cheltenham, knew what the three words meant. “East Wind, Rain was one of three possible execute messages which Japanese diplomats around the world had been alerted to begin listening for on November 19th. They were told to monitor the regular news and weather broadcasts from Tokyo, just as they always did, but to pay especially careful attention to the phraseology employed to describe the weather.
If they heard the words North Wind, Cloudy, it meant war with the Soviet Union.
If they heard the words West Wind, Clear, it meant war with the British Empire.
And if they heard the words East Wind, Rain, it meant war with the United States.

The Roosevelt government knew the meaning of the East Wind, Rain message because American and British intelligence were able to read the Japanese diplomatic code, and they had intercepted and read the message from the Japanese foreign ministry of November 19th, 1941, which instructed Japanese embassies and consulates to be listening for the winds execute messages on their shortwave receivers, and which clearly explained the meaning of the messages.

After Ralph Briggs had teletyped the winds message to Washington, it was quickly transmitted to Army Signals Intelligence and to the White House. The teletype equipment then in use at Cheltenham produced an original and a copy at the sending end, and two copies at the Washington end. Briggs also typed out another original and two carbon copies on a regular typewriter. All these he carefully filed.

The following week Ralph Briggs found the station’s copy missing from the files. Every copy of the winds message had disappeared. Near and after the end of WW2, Briggs was ordered by a superior officer not to discuss his role in the incident. Only years later, after retiring from the U.S. Navy and from civilian employment with the Navy did he write an affidavit testifying to the above, which his second wife showed to me in 2001. She told me that because his first wife was blind and needed a seeing-eye dog and the medical/health insurance the Navy provided, he dared not violate his orders to keep quiet about the “East Wind, Rain” message. His first wife died in later years, but his second wife supported his decision to write the affidavit after he retired from the Navy and later from civilian employment with the Navy.

How many people realize the Japanese also attacked American forces in the Philippines a few hours after Pearl Harbour?

I agree with Ezra Taft Benon, when as a Prophet, he told us that a secret combination, or conspiracy, that seeks to overthrow the freedom of and govern all lands, nations, and countries is increasing its evil influence and control over America and the entire world. The participants are satanically driven to build an integrated political and economic structure, a one world government. Their anticipated reforms will, as former UN Sec. Gen. Kofi Annan said in a speech, erode national sovereignty, curtail personal liberties, and lead the world into a system of global governance. And I’ll add: governance by a socialist dictatorship.

The conspirators that Presiden Benson mentioned in 1988 have been for decades operating in an extremely efficient manner, at least at the higher levels of leadership. They make use of every means at their disposal, scientific, technical, social, and economic. They hold almost complete sway in international organizations, in financial circles, in the field of mass communications; press, radio and television. Even our own government is very much controlled by those intent upon destroying US sovereignty and delivering our nation over to a socialist New World Order (NWO).

Such a world government can come together only after the Christian United States is out of the way. A vital, economically strong, Christian United States would have at its disposal the spiritual and material force to prevent Satan from totally winning his battle. And Satan and his Latter Day Gadiantons know that.

So by destroying the wealth, freedom, and religious faith of the American people, they are striving to so alter life in the United States that we can be easily and comfortably merged first with Mexico and Canada, and then with other countries, including those already accustomed to totalitarian rule and greater corruption. They are setting America up for a fall, incredible as that kind of treason may appear. By causing the United States to spend its strength and means warring in foreign lands, under the guise of spreading democracy or promoting US interests, and using the specter of organized terror, (It's too bad that so relatively few understand that al Qaeda is controlled terrorism at the top and used to further political purposes), they are tempting adversaries, whose military forces they previously and deliberately built up to a great extent by American wealth and technology, to take advantage of our planned weakness and attack America, reducing Americans to sniveling sheeple, and inducing them to submit to government by people who despise the kind of government the Lord wanted us to have.

I read in "Doctrines of Salvation" where then Apostle Joseph Fielding Smith claimed that Satan has control now, governing nations, even in our own land, guiding the governments as far as the Lord will permit him. He said it is not the President of the United States, nor is it any other national ruler or head of state who are calling the shots.

I hope we will be fit and able to participate on the Lord’s side. I have read “the book”, and in the end we win. But that victory will not be without great suffering and loss of life, both temporal and eternal. A big part of my personal agenda is damage control. I hope that by doing what I can to awaken people to our awful situation the damage and losses can be reduced.

In this connection, I think of Pearl Harbour, which I have studied in great detail. If the Army and Navy Commanders had gotten intel that was dinied them, maybe a couple thousand lives could have been spared, as well as others in the Philippines on the same day. Years ago the Church tried to give us the intel we needed to at least reduce the damage being done by the latter day gadiantons, but we largely ignored it.

Thanks for posting that Lundbaek. I feel you have bought elements of stability and wisdom to this forum. I agree pretty much with your take on this world concerning the gadiantons.
I guess all we can do is make the best sense we can from our experiences and the information we have presented to us and use the gospel teachings as an outline to check our theories against.

I hope your mission goes well and you get the opportunity to awake a few more souls of our awful situation.
I have often wondered; is it pre-requisite to a persons salvation to be aware of our awful situation? Is it that important?

Lamanite Descendant raised the question: "is it pre-requisite to a persons salvation to be aware of our awful situation? Is it that important?"

The scriptures admonish/command us to learn about what is going on in the world (I'm too tired to look for those verses), tell us to be on the lookout for "murderous combinations" and don't let them get above us, and warn us that their intent is to overthrow the freedom of all lands.

To borrow an expression from WhisperFox, the current "prophetic priorities" of the Church seem not to focus on these issues at this time; certainly not as they did 20-50 years ago. I note the silence on these things in conference talks and in sunday school and priesthood/relif society lesson manuals.

Shortly after I joined the Church in 1960 I said to an older lifelong member "Did I join a church or a political party?", so powerful were the admonitons of President McKay, President Clark, and Apostle Benson especially. A person relatively new in the Church, unless extremely discerning, may hear or read nothing on these subjects for yeears until someone like one of us unloads an ear full on him/her.

Almost daily I encounter people who feel inspired, somemore strongly than others, to get busy on their family history. So something seems to be getting thru to them. But if I drop on them a word or phrase like "secret combination", "constitution", "constitutional principles", or "deteriorating freedoms", etc., or explain why I support Ron Paul instead of Mitt Romney for president, most of them seem numb or even resentful to my words.

I suspect maybe some of us are "supposed to" know and do something about it, and others not.

To those of you who feel driven do try to awaken others to our "awful situation", its causes and causers: Do you feel driven to get going, and I mean get going, on your genealogy? I was working with a young couple in the FH Library the other day. The gal was keen, but the guy said he was not interested. I told him there is a special place in Hell for those who do not get interested. The gal gave him a whack, and he replied that his grandma was doing it all. It doesn't work that way. Maybe I should have tried the freedom and constitution subject on him. It seems to me different people are driven to different activities.

Lundbaek, I can't tell you how grateful I am for your presence in this site. You are always full of information and have obviously done your homework and research on the subjects and topics you discuss and your direct experiences reflect it as well. It has been a delight to enter these forums and discover that my concerns, knowledge, anger and hope are identical with not just yours, but many others. I think there is a reason we have come together here and I also firmly believe that we were all valiant spirits in the spirit world, fighting for free agency and our liberties where upon our chosing to come to earth to be tested and to prove ourselves worthy of entering into our father's presence again, we said "bring it on"! May the Lord be with you on your mission and until we meet again my friend.

My favourite conspiracy quotes:

Ezra Taft Benson, former Secretary of Agriculture under President Eisenhower, and later a General Authority and finally President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, speaking in a Church General Conference in October 1988:

"I testify that wickedness is rapidly expanding in every segment of our society. It is more highly organized, more cleverly disguised, and more powerfully promoted than ever before. Secret combinations lusting for power, gain and glory are flourishing. A secret combination that seeks to overthrow the freedom of all lands, nations and countries is increasing its evil influence and control over America and the entire world. "

As an Apostle, Joseph Fielding Smith wrote in “Doctrines of Salvation”, Vol.3, pp. 314-315:

“Satan has control now. No matter where you look, he is in control, even in our own land. He is guiding the governments as far as the Lord will permit him. That is why there is so much strife, turmoil, confusion all over the earth. One master mind is governing the nations. It is not the President of the United States...it is not the king or government of England or any other land; it is Satan himself.” (Joseph Fielding Smith, Doctrines of Salvation, Vol. 3, pp. 314-315)

President J. Ruben Clark, speaking in the October 1949 General Conference, said: "Do not think that all these usurpations, intimidations, and impositions are being done to us through inadvertancy or mistake, the whole course is deliberately planned and carried out; its purpose is to destroy the Constitution and our Constitutional government."

Apostle Bruce R. McConkie, speaking in the April 1980 General Conference, stated:
"Gadianton robbers fill the judgement seats in many nations. An evil power seeks to overthrow the freedom of all nations and countries."

Apostle Boyd K. Packer, speaking in a 16 January 2007 BYU Devotional, stated:
“We live in a time of war, that spiritual war that will never end. Moroni warned us that the secret combinations begun by Gadianton ‘are had among all people. . . . Wherefore, O ye Gentiles [and the term gentile in that place in the Book of Mormon refers to us in our generation], it is wisdom in God that these things should be shown unto you, that thereby ye may repent of your sins, and suffer not that these murderous combinations shall get above you. . . . Wherefore, the Lord commandeth you, when ye shall see these things come among you that ye shall awake to a sense of your awful situation, because of this secret combination which shall be among you." [Ether 8:20, 23–24]

Because I believe then President Benson, President Clark, Apostle Smith, Apostle McConkie, and Apostle Packer were correct, and I have good reason to believe they were correct, I have to conclude that at least there has been and continues to exist a satanically driven conspiracy to overthrow the freedom of and gain control of all nations. I think that’s a safe bet. There have been and are today other men and women who in their ways saw this conspiracy, or at least some aspects of it, and tried to warn us about it. I’d like to present what they had to say, even though most are no longer alive. Their warnings should help us recognize the continuation of the conspiracy today.

Gary Allen’s book None Dare Call It Conspiracy was endorsed and publicly recommended by Apostle Ezra Taft Benson in the April 1972 Church Conference. Allen wrote:

"In a UPI story dated December 27, 1965, Father Pedro Arrupe, head of the Jesuit Order of the Roman Catholic Church, made the following charges during his remarks to the Ecumenical Council: 'This...Godless society operates in an extremely efficient manner at least in its higher levels of leadership. It makes use of every possible means at its disposal, be they scientific, technical, social or economic. It follows a perfectly mapped out strategy. It holds almost complete sway in international organizations, in financial circles, in the field of mass communications; press, cinema, radio and television. " .

The late Congressman Larry P. McDonald, while in Congress, reportedly stated:

"The drive of the Rockefellers and their allies is to create a one-world government combining super capitalism and communism under the same tent, all under their control...Do I mean conspiracy? Yes I do. I am convinced there is such a plot, international in scope, generations old in planning, and incredibly evil in intent."

In his book “Memoirs”, published in 2002, David Rockefeller, Sr. made the following remarks:

“For more than a century ideological extremists at either end of the political spectrum have seized upon well-publicized incidents such as my encounter with Castro to attack the Rockefeller family for the inordinate influence they claim we wield over American political and economic institutions. Some even believe we are part of a secret cabal working against the best interests of the United States, characterizing my family and me as ‘internationalists’ and of conspiring with others around the world to build a more integrated global political and economic structure -- one world, if you will. If that’s the charge, I stand guilty, and I am proud of it.”

Dan Smoot, former FBI agent, assistant to J. Edgar Hoover, and close colleague of W. Cleon Skousen, independent broadcaster, and originator and editor of The Dan Smoot Report , about whom Gary Allen wrote ...considered by many to be the most sound and penetrating researcher and reporter of our time... wrote in his book The Invisible Government :
"I am convinced that the objective of this invisible government is to convert America into a socialist state and then make it a unit in a one-world socialist system." Pg. IV

UN Secretary General Kofi Annan, in a Council on Foreign Relations speech, 4/22/97, as reported in the Sept 1999 McAlvany Intelligence Advisor, stated:

"Clearly we cannot meet the challenges of the new millennium with an instrument designed for the very different circumstances of the middle of the twentieth century. Make no mistake about it, the anticipated reforms will erode national sovereignty, infringe on personal liberties, and lead the world into a system of global governance."

Dr. Carroll Quigley, late renowned history professor at Georgetown, Princeton and Harvard Universities, in his book Tragedy and Hope , stated: "There does exist, and has existed for a generation, an international Anglophile network which operates, to some extent in the way the radical Right believes the Communists act. In fact, this network, which we may identify as the Round Table Groups, has no aversion to cooperating with the Communists, or any other groups, and frequently does so. I know of the operation of this network because I have studied it for twenty years, and was permitted for two years, in the early 1960s, to examine its papers and secret records.... n general my chief difference of opinion is that it wishes to remain unknown....

"I know of the operations of this network because I have studied it for twenty years and was permitted for two years, in the early 1960's to examine its papers and secret records. I have no aversion to it or to most of its aims and have, for much of my life, been close to it and many of its instruments. I have objected, both in the past and recently, to a few of its policies...but in general my chief difference of opinion is that it wishes to remain unknown, and I believe its role in history is significant enough to be known.
The chief problem of American political life...has been how to make the two Congressional parties more national and international. The argument that the two parties should represent opposed ideals and policies, one, perhaps, of the Right and the other of the Left, is a foolish idea acceptable only to doctrinaire and academic thinkers. Instead, the two parties should be almost identical, so that the American people can 'throw the rascals out' at any election without leading to any profound or extensive shifts in policy. " Pg 1247 - 1248

(In personal correspondence, retired columnist Charley Reese told me that according to Quigley’s widow, her husband was preparing to revise and update the book when he discovered the printing plates had been destroyed by the publisher without his concurrance. In another statement which I apparently have lost, Quigley said he realized he had offended some powerful people in writing “Tragedy And Hope”. )

James K. Fitzpatrick wrote the following on the editorial page of the national newspaper The Wanderer , November 18, 1993:
"Clinton told reporters in an interview that Quigley's work centered on the existence of a permanent shadow government of powerful bankers and businessmen and government officials that controls the agenda of our political life from behind the scenes. Clinton spoke in that interview of coming to the conclusion, while still a young man, that it was necessary for him to gain access to the inner circle of this group in order to become part of the decision-making process that shapes our world. "

Norman Dodd, director of research for the Reece Committee, which was commissioned to investigate tax-free foundations, speaking during an interview with Michael Lloyd Chadwick, editor of The Freeman Digest, stated:

"This brings me to two experiences which I will describe to you. The first was my response to an invitation during November 1953, from President Roman Gaither of the Ford Foundation, to meet in his office in New York. Upon arriving there, I was greeted with the following: 'Mr. Dodd, we invited you to come because we thought that perhaps, off the record, you would be kind enough t tell us why the Congress is interested in the operations of foundations such as ourselves.' Before I could think of how to reply, he volunteered this: 'Mr. Dodd, we operate here under directives...which emanate from the White House. Would you like to know what the substance of their directives is?' My answer was 'yes, Mr. Gaither, I would like very much to know.' Whereupon he said: 'the substance of the directives under which we operate is that we shall use our grant-making power to alter life in the United States so that we can be comfortably merged with the Soviet Union.' Needless to say, I nearly fell off the chair."

"The next experience involved the acceptance of an invitation from the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace...I arrived at the office of Dr. Joseph Johnson who was then president of the Endowment. He was the successor to Alger Hiss who had been sentenced to five years for perjury because he had denied under oath that he was an agent of the Soviet Union...'Mr. Dodd, we have received your letter. We can answer the question but it will be a great deal of trouble...So we have a counter suggestion which is a follows: If you can spare a member of your staff and send him to New York for two weeks, we'll provide a room in our library and also make available to him the minute books of the corporation from its inception...As a result, I accepted the invitation and did send a member of my staff to New York. She later brought back to me on dictaphone belts what she had dictated from the minutes of the board. Following are excerpts from the minutes:

"Is there any way known to man more effective than war, assuming you wish to alter the life of an entire people?
"How do we involve the United States in such a war?
"How do we secure control of the diplomatic machinery of the United States?
"We must get control of the State Department."
(W. Cleon Skousen was present during the above interviews, according to Glenn Kimber, then manager of the Freeman Institute and a personal friend of mine. Norman Dodd repeated this nearly identical testimony at other times as well.)

Dan Smoot, in his book The Invisible Government , wrote:
"Every significant movement to destroy the American way of life has been directed and financed, in whole or in part, by tax-exempt organizations, which are entrenched in public opinion as benefactors of society." Pg. 167
"...the invisible government is composed of organizations which enjoy the special privilege of federal tax-exemption (a privilege seldom given to organizations advocating return to traditional American policies)..." Pg. 176

W. Cleon Skousen, former FBI agent and university professor, wrote in his book The Naked Capitalist the following:
"'I think the Communist conspiracy is merely a branch of a much bigger conspiracy'. The above statement was made to this reviewer several years ago by Bella Dodd, a former member of the National Committee of the U.S. Communist Party. Dr. Dodd said she first became aware of some mysterious super-leadership right after World War II when the U.S. Communist Party had difficulty getting instructions from Moscow on several vital matters requiring immediate attention. The American Communist hierarchy was told that any time they had an emergency of this kind they should contact any one of three designated persons at the Waldorf Towers. Dr. Dodd noted that whenever the Party obtained instructions from any of these three men, Moscow always ratified them. What puzzled Dr. Dodd was the fact that not one of these three contacts was a Russian. Nor were any of them Communists. In fact, all three were extremely wealthy American capitalists." Pg.1.

I have further personal correspondence from Dr. Skousen on this subject, basically telling me that Bella Dodd never knew who the wealthy American capitalists were. Several years ago Dr. Skousen, in reply to my inquiry about Dr. Bella Dodd having spoken of wealthy Americans who at times gave direction to the Communist Party USA right after World War 2, wrote to me: "...April 23, 1962. Bella Dodd told me that while she was working as a member of the national committee of the Communist Party, she learned from William Z. Foster, head of the American Communist Party, that if they couldn’t make a decision on any particular problem they should go to the Waldorf Astoria for instructions. Their courier always took these inquiries to Arthur J. Goldsmith. However, she did not know whether he was one of the three or merely a go between who delivered the message to the three wealthy contacts and then later brought back the answer."

Dr. Dennis L. Cuddy, in his book Secret Records Revealed , wrote:
"1917, March 24: The New York Times, on page two, prints a telegram from Jacob Schiff describing the Russian Revolution as 'what we had hoped and striven for these long years.' Schiff had heavily financed Woodrow Wilson's 1912 presidential campaign, and in 1916 Schiff paid Leon Trotsky's way to the U.S. In The New York Journal American (February 3, 1949) one will read: 'Today it is estimated even by Jacob's grandson, John Schiff, a prominent member of New York Society, that the old man sank about $20,000,000 for the final triumph of Bolshevism in Russia. Other leading banks also contributed.' "

November...The White Russian General Arsene de Goulevitch would later claim that 'over 21 million rubles' had been given to the communists' cause by Lord Milner (The Group)."

Gary Allen wrote in his book None Dare Call It Conspiracy the following:
"A clique of American financiers not only helped establish Communism in Russia, but has striven mightily ever since to keep it alive. Ever since 1918 this clique has been engaged in transferring money and, probably more important, technical information, to the Soviet Union. This is made abundantly clear in the three volume history Western Technology and Soviet Economic Development by scholar Anthony Sutton of Stanford University's Hoover Institution on War, Revolution and Peace. Using, for the most part, official State Department documents, Sutton shows conclusively that virtually everything the Soviets possess had been acquired from the West." Pg. 75 (I have read some of Sutton’s books and found them well researched.)

Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, in a 30 June 1975 speech and the Washington D.C. Hilton, stated:
"There also exists another alliance - at first glance a strange one...the alliance beetween our Communist leaders and your capitalists. This alliance in not new...We observe continuous and steady support by the businessmen of the West of the Soviet Communist leaders."

From Major Jordan’s Diaries was written by George Racey Jordan, one of the WW2 Lend-Lease expediters, then a U.S. Army Air force Major who during WW2 became aware of the transfer of, and actually saw and handled, among other things, materials and technical information that, as it turned out, were used by the Russians to build their first atomic bomb. After reading the book carefully, I extracted the following excerpts which implicate elements of the U.S. government, especially Harry Hopkins, the man in charge of Lend-Lease, in this activity.

"But the tremendous volume of Lend-Lease material going through under diplomatic immunity , the infiltration of Soviet agents through the Pipeline, the shipments of non-military supplies and even military secrets, were more than I could stomach. I finally protested through proper channels in Great Falls, and then in Washington; nothing happened." Pg. 5

"It is true that we never knew the exact use to which anything sent under Russian Lend-Lease was put, and the failure to set up a system of accountability is now seen as an appalling mistake. But could anything be more foolish than to suppose that the atomic materials we sent were not used for an atomic bomb which materialized in Russia long before we expected it?...Our government was intent on supplying whatever the Russians asked for, as fast as we could get it to them - and I was one of the expediters. And when I say our government , I mean of course Harry Hopkins, the man in charge of Lend-Lease, and his aids. We in the Army knew where the orders were coming from, and so did the Russians." Pg. 35 & 36

"Not until the latter part of 1949 was it definitely proved, from responsible records, that during the war Federal agencies delivered to Russia at least three consignments of uranium chemicals, totaling 1,465 pounds, or nearly three quarters of a ton. Confirmed also was the shipment of one kilogram, or 2.2 pounds of uranium metal at a time when the total American stock was 4.5 pounds." Pg. 95
"There seemed to be no lengths to which some American officials would not go in aiding Russia to master the secret of nuclear fission." Pg.96
"When American supplies were cut off , the device of outmaneuvering General Groves was to procure the materials clandestinely from Canada...My share in the revelation was testimony under oath leading to one conclusion only - that the Canadian by-pass was aided by Mr. Hopkins. At his direction, Lend-Lease issued a certificate of release without which the consignment could not have moved." Pg. 98
"... Mr. Hopkins personally directed me to expedite the Canadian shipment. ...I insisted that Harry Hopkins himself gave the order by telephone." Pg. 237
"General Groves...declared there was no way for the Russians to get uranium products in this country without the support of U.S. authorities in one way or another. ." Pg. 106
"Under Lend-Lease law the President had full power to decide what defense articles, defense assistance the Russians were to get. He delegated that power to Harry Hopkins, with the result that in addition to defense supplies, the Russians got whatever they asked for, if someone lower in the hierarchy tried to prevent it." Pg. 130

"In his ardor for the Soviets, Hopkins never hesitated to seize upon supplies urgently demanded by other agencies, even when the issue was military success on the Western Front...The general feeling, Colonel Rounds said, was that in a given supply problem the Russians repeatedly came first." Pg. 140

Pat Robertson, in his 1990 book The New World Order , wrote:
"In government policy, the most visible expression of the Establishment is the Council on Foreign Relations and its publication, Foreign Affairs .... According to a man who had been a member for fifteen years, Rear Admiral Chester Ward, former judge advocate general of the navy from 1956 to 1960, 'This purpose of promoting disarmament and submergence of U.S. sovereignty and national independence into an all-powerful one-world government is the only objective revealed to about 95 percent of 1,551 members (in 1975). There are two other ulterior purposes that CFR influence is being used to promote, but it is improbable that they are known to more than 75 members,..." Pg. 96 & 97

"The CFR is the American branch of a society which originated in England. Internationalist in viewpoint, the CFR, along with the Atlantic Union movement and the Atlantic Council of the United States, believes national boundaries should be obliterated and one-world rule established. Pg. 128

Barry Goldwater, in his book With No Apologies , wrote:
"Rear Admiral Chester Ward, USN (Ret'd), who was a member of the CFR for sixteen years, has written The most powerful clique in these elitist groups have one objective in common - they want to bring about the surrender of the sovereignty and the national independence of the United States. Their goal is to impose a benign stability on the quarreling family of nations through merger and consolidation. They see the elimination of national boundaries, the suppression of racial and ethnic loyalties as the most expeditious avenue to world peace." Pg. 278

Dan Smoot, in The Invisible Government , wrote:
"The fact, however, that communists, Soviet espionage agents, and pro-communists could work inconspicuously for many years as influential members on the Council indicates something very significant about the Council's objectives. The ultimate aim of the Council on Foreign Relations (however well-intentioned its prominent and powerful members may be) is the same as the ultimate aim of international communism: to create a one-world socialist system and make the United States an official part of it." Pg. 6
Congressman John R. Rarick (D-LA), in a 1971 speech on the floor of the House of Representatives, stated:
"The Council on Foreign Relations...uses individuals and groups...to justify the high level decisions for converting the U.S. from a sovereign Constitutional Republic into a servile member state of a one-world dictatorship."

Dr. Dennis L. Cuddy wrote in Secret Records Revealed :
"1917, February 9: Rep. Oscar Calloway inserts the following statement in the Congressional Record : In March 1915 the J.P. Morgan interests, the steel, shipbuilding, and powder interests, and their subsidiary organizations got together twelve men high up in the newspaper world and employed them to select the most influential newspapers in the United States and sufficient number of them to control generally the policy of the daily press on the United States...The twenty-five papers were agreed upon; emissaries were sent out to purchase the policy, national and international, of these papers; an agreement was reached; the policy of the papers was bought, to be paid for by the month; an editor was furnished for each paper to properly supervise and edit information regarding the questions of preparedness, militarism, financial policies, and other things of national and international nature considered vital to the interests of the purchasers. Pg. 27 & 28

J.Ruben Clark wrote in his book Stand Fast By The Constitution :
"The Covenant of the League of Nations...was rather fully explained to the people, and they rejected it.... The United Nations Charter...had practically no explanation made of it to the people, and they did not reject it.... A deliberate plan, carefully worked out, to adopt the Charter before the people could study and understand it, could not have worked more effectively to this end. We were so launched into a world organization, about which neither the peoples of the world, nor ourselves, had any adequate knowledge; they and we had less understanding.

Curtis Dall, for years a son-in-law of Franklin D. Roosevelt, wrote the following observations in his book FDR - My Exploited Father-In-Law

"For a long time I felt that F.D.R. had developed many thoughts and ideas that were his own to benefit the country, the U.S.A. But he didn’t. Most of this thoughts, his political ammunition as it were, was carefully manufactured for him in advance by the CFR - One-World Money group."

Curtis Dall also wrote that Felix Frankfurter had stated: "The real rulers in Washington are invisible, and exercise power from behind the scenes."

"Dedicated to young Americans – May you benefit from observing how certain shadowy forces contrive to ruthlessly advance their own financial and ideological objectives at your expense. They select, then groom, and ultimately control many of our highest government officials. They plan the wars and through foreign policy arrange to set the stage for incidents to inflate hostilities. They overwork the word peace to misled you and create a plausible smoke screen in order to conceal their real operations. You can recognize who they are."

"The American people are not reared and trained to become international-minded schemers. As a result, we have become the ready victims of those who have been reared and steeped in that type of training. In addition, as a people, we are too inclined to hedonism, deeply absorbed in a program of pleasure. Toward that end, we are being encouraged and daily moulded by our foreign influenced press, radio and TV programs. We are encouraged to become absorbed in the trivial, for obvious reasons, by dedicated world-planners."

"Many of us are prone to feel that our political status, even our freedom and our liberty in the U.S.A. is secure..... Let us not fool ourselves. The wealth, freedom and liberty of the American people are being stolen and steadily nibbled away. Today, as easy suckers, we are buying many over-priced, political benefits , all paid for, of course, with our own hard-earned money We have also been goaded into trying to run the affairs of other nations which yields a fine profit for the world money powers who are in-the-know on credits and markets. Whether you realize it or not, this has all been planned for you in just that way."

"False images and managed news , however, will soon lead to the destruction of a free people, if we allow it. We means you and me...

Pat Robertson, in his 1990 book The New World Order :

"Further, I do not believe that normal men and women, if left to themselves, would spend a life time to form the world into a unified whole in order to control it after it had been unified. No, impulses of that sort do not spring from the human heart, or for that matter from God's heart. They spring, instead, from the depth of something that is evil, neither well intentioned nor benevolent.

"Such a world government can come together only after the Christian United States is out of the way. After all, the rest of the world can federate any time it wants to, but a vital, economically strong, Christian United States would have at its disposal the spiritual and material force to prohibit a worldwide satanic dictator from winning his battle. With America free and at large, Satan's schemes will at best be only partially successful."

This last statement was written at my request by the man who first opened my eyes to the conspiracies to destroy the U.S. Constitution, and who was for many years engaged in research to expose them and educate Americans to their danger. He has been a great friend over the years, but I suspect he would prefer to remain anonymous. If you found yourself (1) smarter than most, (2) unable to believe what your dominating intellect tells you are religious fairytales, including the idea of God, (3) and you wanted to find a purpose for existing, would it not be logical to impose your more intelligent ideas on the dumb sheep of mankind for their own good in order to save the planet from their unenlightened ways? And having found your fellow man to resist your direct control...would you not be forced to impose that control by strategy--secrecy and in combination with others of like-mind? On this reasoning alone, I believe secret attempts to rule the world are going on today and they have always been going on. Only death comes to stop them, and birth brings in others to continue another round.

Notes and Quotes on the CFR

LDS author Jack Monnett, in his book "Awakening to Our Awful Situation" stated the following:
"According to the Council on foreign Relatons Handbook of 1936, they met "to discuss setting up an international group which would advise their respective governments on international affairs." A few days later it was decided that "seperate organizations cooperating with each other" would allow for more direct input into respective governments -- thus the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) was established in the United States, the Royal Institute of International Affairs in Great Britain, and the Institute of Pacific Relations in the United States to deal with Far Eastern affairs. At the same time, other groups were organized in both Paris and Hamburg."

"The foundations of the Council on Foreign Relations took place on May 19, 1919 at the Paris Peace Conference with Colonel Edward Mandell House assuming the main organizational role."

"Clearly, the goal of the CFR has not changed. Government leders at the top echelons of decision-making do not have the United States' sovereignty as their top priority, but rather have the mindset that a global government or world power is necessary to control world events."

"Council on Foreign Relations President Richard N. Haass wrote a paper entitled "Sovereignty and Globalization" under the date of February 17, 2006 and including the following statements:

"States must be prepared to cede some sovereignty to world bodies if the international system is to function."

"Globalization implies that sovereignty is not only becoming weaker in reality, but that it needs to become weaker. States would be wist ot weaken sovereignty in order to protect themselves, because they cannot insulte themselves from what goes on elsewhere. Sovereignty is no longer a sanctuary."

"The goal should be to redefine sovereignty for the era of globalization, to find a balance between a world of fully sovereign states and an international system of either world government or anarchy."

Professor of History Carroll Quigley, Georgetown University, in his book "Tragedy and Hope" wrote: "The Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) is the American Branch of a society which originated in England ... (and) ... believes national boundaries should be obliterated and one-world rule
established." .

Dr. Carroll Quigley, late renowned history professor at Georgetown, Princeton and Harvard Universities, in his book “Tragedy and Hope” , stated: "There does exist, and has existed for a generation, an international Anglophile network which operates, to some extent in the way the radical Right believes the Communists act. Pg 1247 - 1248

The late USN Rear Adm. Chester Ward was a member of the CFR for 16 years and after disassociating himself from it, warned the American people as to the true intentions of this treasonous operation: "The most powerful clique in these elitist groups have one objective in common – they want to bring about the surrender of the sovereignty of the national independence of the United States. A second clique of international members in the CFR comprises the Wall Street international bankers and their key agents. Primarily, they want the world-banking monopoly from whatever power ends up in the control of global government. "

Former Congressman John R. Rarick warned:
"The CFR, dedicated to one-world government, financed by a number of the largest tax-exempt foundations, and wielding such power and influence over our lives in the areas of finance, business, labor, military, education and mass communication media, should be familiar to every American concerned with good government and with preserving and defending the U.S. Constitution and our free-enterprise system. Yet, the nation's right to know machinery – the news media – usually so aggressive in exposures to inform our people, remain conspicuously silent when it comes to the CFR, its members and their activities.
The CFR is the establishment. Not only does it have influence and power in key decision-making positions at the highest levels of government to apply pressure from above, but it also finances and uses individuals and groups to bring pressure from below, to justify the high-level decisions for converting the United States from a sovereign constitutional republic into a servile member of a one-world dictatorship."

Dan Smoot, a former member of the FBI Headquarters staff in Washington, D.C., wrote in his book "The Invisible Government": "The ultimate aim of the CFR is to create a one-world socialist system and make the U.S. an official part of it."

Former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan, in a Council on Foreign Relations speech, 4/22/97, as reported in the Sept 1999 McAlvany Intelligence Advisor, stated:
"Clearly we cannot meet the challenges of the new millennium with an instrument designed for the very different circumstances of the middle of the twentieth century. Make no mistake about it, the anticipated reforms will erode national sovereignty, infringe on personal liberties, and lead the world into a system of global governance."

Curtis Dall, for years a son-in-law of Franklin D. Roosevelt, wrote the following observations in his book "FDR - My Exploited Father-In-Law":

I think I posted here somewhere that I have been running for the office of Congressional Representative for the Arizona 5th Congressional District for the Constitution Party. I received encouragement and support of quite a few people, even from a couple in our ward. But both my wife and I have taken some flak over my candidacy for Congress. But in spite of some ridicule and complaints about my possibly taking votes away from 'good', 'righteous' and/or 'more able' candidates, my candidacy for Congress has accomplished all that I had really hoped for. It afforded me opportunities that I otherwise would probably not have had. I was able to further awaken a good many people to a sense of our awful situation in this country. It opened doors for me to discuss many of the benefits of government compliance with the US Constitution and constitutional principles. And in many cases, I was able to make people aware of their responsibility to befriend the US Constitution. Not that I expect them to do much of anything about it at this point. To some Latter-day Saints I was able to explain three very important things they should know. First, that God holds men accountable for their acts in relation to government, both in making laws and administering them. Second, the Lord established the Constitution of the United States by the hands of wise men whom He raised up for that very purpose. And third, that Latter-day Saints are to befriend the constitutional law of the United States by being righteous, by learning the principles of the Constitution in the tradition of the American Founding Fathers, by becoming involved in civic affairs, and to exert their influence to bring our government into compliance with the US Constitution and its principles and return our government to its God-given, Constitutionally limited framework. Sound familiar?

During this campaign I often pondered on the apparent ignorance of many good LDSs of "...things which have been, things which are, things which must shortly come to pass; things which are at home, things which are abroad; the wars and the perplexities of the nations, and the judgements which are upon the land; and a knowledge also of countries and of kingdoms...". It occurred to me often that most have no real opportunity to even access reliable information about those things, let alone any awareness of how to gather it and sort out between truth, partial truth, error and lies. Hence it is so much easier to just assume that because a prominent church member is of a particular political persuasion that it is the correct or best one. Yet we are told to make some very important judgements at the polls. And I believe far too many are made in far too much ignorance.

I was favourably impressed with the general response of LDSs to the calls to support the proposed marriage amendment to the Arizona Constitution, especially on the phone banks. As the phone bank coordinator for our ward, I got refusals and excuses, but a fair number responded willingly. I could not help but wish the stake and regional authorities had pleaded so fervently for the members to study the US Constitution and identify and support those candidates who are clearly "befriending that law which is the constitutional law of the land." But I guess 1970 was about the last time LDSs were called to action on that issue. ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wKldpMBzMYs )

I am fairly new to this board and have been exploring the older posts. Wow, Lundbaek, you really said a mouthful here. It may surprise you that I agree with most of what you said.

What part of Arizona are you in. I grew up just outside of Florence on a Cotton/Cattle Ranch.

Quite to my surprise, this past Friday evening I was asked to be the final of 3 sacrament meeting speakers in our ward this Sunday. Our bishop was out of town, and his counsellor responsible for organizing the meeting called and explained that they needed a third speaker. I said to him "I hope you know what your gonna get from me. I have a reputation to maintain" He said that was OK, he'd be anxious to hear it. So here's what I prepared and read, carefully word for word.

A week ago yesterday, on the day America celebrated the 233rd Anniversary of the signing of our nation’s birth certificate, namely the American Declaration of Independence, I participated in an activity in Gilbert in which many people had opportunity to express their frustrations and concerns about the "awful situation" they perceive that our country is in, and in some cases the "awwful situation" they are finding themselves and their families in. Blame for the "awful situation" was thrown about in any number of directions by people carrying signs, and speakers, including myself. In my case, the "awful situation" that I perceive, and that many others I associate with also perceive, is that which Moroni wrote of, as is recorded in Verse 24 of the 8th Chapter of Ether.

The 8th Chapter of Ether. That’s your homework assignment for tonite.

I believe that the current challenging situations many of us fear, or are facing already, have been brought about largely by failure or refusal to heed a very important commandment of the Lord; by our collective, general disobedience to or neglect of that commandment found in Verse 6 of the 98th Section of the D&C, and also in the Preface of that Section. That’s the commandment that tells us "The Saints are to befriend the constitutional law of the land."

But before I go any further with this, I’d like to tell you about a man who I find one of the most interesting Church General Authorities.

His name is J. Reuben Clark. Joshua Reuben Clark, to be precise. As a member of the First Presidency, he was a counselor to three Church Presidents over a period of 28 years. We've never had another human being in this Church serve as a counselor to Presidents of the Church longer than J. Reuben Clark.

What I’m going to tell you about him now is out of two books: "This is J. Reuben Clark: The Public Years", and "This is J. Reuben Clark: The Church Years" by Michael Quinn and Frank Fox, and published by the Brigham Young University Press in 1983.

President Clark was very disturbed that he would be called to the First Presidency of the Church. One needs to know a little bit about the background of J. Reuben Clark at that time as far as the Church was concerned, to appreciate what a shock this was to him and probably to others as well. He hadn't been where he could be active in the church for 20 to 25 years. In Washington, D.C., where he lived and worked from 1906 until 1930, you could go to a little Sunday evening affair that Senator Smoot held, but that was all. He paid his tithing, but there wasn't any Church, very often, to go to. Then from 1931 to 1933 he served a U.S. Ambassador to Mexico. He'd never been a Bishop, never been a Stake President.

Then he suddenly found himself telling Bishops and Stake Presidents how to do their jobs, how run their Stakes and their Wards. Concerning his calling to the First presidency, J. Reuben Clark reportedly said to President Grant, "Don't you make these choices by inspiration?"
President Grant said, "Yes, we do."
J. Reuben Clark said, "I can understand why a lawyer of international prominence and so forth, like myself, may add to the prestige of the Church. But I don't know what I am doing here. I am doing things that I never was trained to do. I'm instructing people. I feel very inadequate."

Well, according to the story that I read, President Grant said, "That's not why you were chosen as a counselor."
Brother Clark asked, "Well, why was I chosen?"
President Grant told him, "You were chosen because the Constitution of the United States is in jeopardy. The Church needs to be aroused, the country needs to be aroused, and we've got to start training our people to defend that Constitution before it's shredded and lost."
"Oh, really?!"
"You are the best Constitutionalist in the Church."
And those of you who might remember President Benson’s talks and writings about our Constitution should be impressed by his having once referred to President Clark as "The eminent Constitutional authority".

President Clark’s speeches about the importance of the US Constitution in Church General Conferences and in public were received with derision and contempt by many. But of all his statements in support of the U.S. Constitution, one that he made in the April 1935 General Conference stands out the most in my mind.
He said: "To me...that statement of the Lord, "I have established the Constitution of this land," puts the Constitution of the United States in the position in which it would be if it were written in this book of Doctrine and Covenants itself. This makes the Constitution the word of the Lord to us. That it was given, not by oral utterance, but by the inspiration of his mind and spirit upon the minds of men, inspiring them to the working out of this great document of human government, does not alter its authority.

And in that connection, President George Albert Smith, speaking in the April 1948 General Conference, stated: "I am saying to you that to me the Constitution of the United States of America is just as much from my Heavenly Father as the Ten Commandments."

If there is one single verse of Scripture that has been ringing like a clarion call in my head in recent years, it is Verse 6 of the 98th Section of the Doctrine and Covenants. "Therefore, I, the Lord, justify you, and your brethren of my church, in befriending that law which is the constitutional law of the land;". Given by the Lord Jesus Christ thru the Prophet Joseph Smith, at Kirtland, Ohio, August 6, 1833, its message is clear.

"The saints are to befriend the constitutional law of the land." And that is stated in the Preface to the 98th section as well. That message is preceded in Verse 4 by the statement "it is my will that my people should observe to do all things whatsoever I command them".

In trying to come up with a good explanation of what the Lord meant by befriending the United States Constitution, I found that in the October 1987 General Conference, the Prophet, President Ezra Taft Benson, told us how to "befriend" the US Constitution. He said "How then can we best befriend the Constitution in this critical hour and secure the blessings of liberty and ensure the protection and guidance of our Father in Heaven?"

Now understand, this is a prophet of God speaking in a Church General Conference, not just me.

"First and foremost, we must be righteous... Two great American Christian civilizations - the Jaredites and the Nephites - were swept off this land because they did not "serve the God of the land, who is Jesus Christ. (Ether 2: 12) What will become of our civilization?

"Second, we must learn the principles of the Constitution in the tradition of the Founding Fathers. Have we read the Federalist Papers? Are we reading the Constitution and pondering it? Are we aware of its principles? Are we abiding by these principles and teaching them to others? Could we defend the Constitution? Can we recognize when a law is constitutionally unsound? Do we know what the prophets have said about the Constitution and the threats to it?

"Third, we must become involved in civic affairs to see that we are properly represented....

"Fourth, we must make our influence felt by our vote, our letters, our teaching, and our advice. We must become accurately informed and then let others know how we feel...."
But why should Latter-day Saints even concern themselves with upholding and abiding by the United States Constitution now, in a time when a late nite talk show host would suggest we give our Constitution of another country because we don’t use ours any more. Let me cite 4 good reasons, please:

1.) The Lord Himself has stated unequivocally that He is the Constitution’s Author. Almost all of the latter-day prophets have declared that the Constitution is a document that was created through the inspiration of the Spirit. The Lord stated, as recorded in D&C 101: 80, that "I, established the Constitution of this land by the hands of wise men whom I raised up unto this very purpose."

2.) Almost every prophet in this dispensation has emphasized the vital importance of defending, upholding and adhering to the Constitution. Those who have spoken on this particular subject have warned us that there is simply no way around this duty if we wish to remain a free people, and that our collective future will be affected radically by our decision to adhere to this counsel—or to either ignore or reject it. In addition to the Lord’s statement in D&C 98: 6 that "I, the Lord, justify you, and your brethren of my church, in befriending that law which is the constitutional law of the land.", And in that connection, we have a statement by President David O. McKay, that "Next to being one in worshiping God, there is nothing in this world upon which this Church should be more united than in upholding and defending the Constitution of the United States."

3.) Several prophets have warned that we have apostatized in various ways from the Constitution, and have spoken of that day of destiny when the Constitution will be on the very verge of destruction, or when it will hang by a thread. In that connection, President McKay stated: "...there has been an alarming increase in the abandoning of the ideals that constitute the foundation of the Constitution of the United States, and of the American home, and you will agree with me that there is real cause for apprehension."

4.) The Constitution’s role goes beyond just providing a free nation in which the gospel and true Church could be restored to the Earth. The Constitution will become the governing system for the whole world during the Millennium. In that regard, the Lord has told us in D&C 98: 5 "And that law of the land which is constitutional, supporting that principle of freedom in maintaining rights and privileges, belongs to all mankind,...". And in D&C 101:77 "The laws and constitution of the people, which I have suffered to be established....should be maintained for the rights and protection of all flesh."

But, as Ezra Taft Benson once stated, "For years we have heard of the role the elders could play in saving the Constitution from total destruction. But how can the elders be expected to save it if they have not studied it and are not sure if it is being destroyed or what is destroying it?"

Active members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in general have many demands placed upon them, including providing for their families, spending quality time with their families, making time for personal and family prayers and Gospel study, engaging in missionary work, conducting family history research, attending the temple, going home teaching and visiting teaching, and participating in other worthy activities. In spite of all these responsibilities, it appears we are also under obligation to defend and promote the freedoms that the Lord intended us to have.

So where does that leave us? Where do we stand?
Imagine, if you would please, a group of rafters paddling and cruising down a river. Their guide calls to them it’s time to turn around and paddle back upstream. It gets dangerous up ahead. But the current is flowing faster now, and the ride is much more fun and exciting, so most of the rafters just ignore the warning and keep on going.

Pretty soon, the current becomes swifter, and the guide shouts a second warning to the people in the rafts. Too late now to get back upstream. Just get to the shore, he cries out. A waterfall is just around the bend.

Again, most of the rafters are enjoying the ride so much that they ignore the guide’s warning and elect to continue on and enjoy the ride as long as they can.

Then they hear the roaring sound of the waterfall. Then it comes in sight. In panic, the rafters try to paddle for the shore. Their guide no longer shouts to them to paddle ashore. It’s no use. All he can tell them now is to rig the rafts for the safest possible splashdown.

So I certainly hope we are all doing our best to follow the Prophet’s admonitions of preparedness and food storage. That may well be a major key now to OUR safest possible splashdown.

Nice words Lundbaek. I personally have felt impressed to start studying J Reuben Clark after discovering some of his words. I took it a bit further and started with Grant's start as President and read the conferences as far as I can, until I get to our day.

One of the "insiders" in our ward tipped me off that my talk this past Sunday ruffled some feathers, including those of the only lawyer I know of in the ward. I don't know the specific objection, at least not yet, but knowing the people involved, I decided to prepare for possible confrontation. So I compiled the following, which I would hope would settle any disagreements.

The first three of the following statements concerning the US Constitution were given by the Lord Jesus Christ to the Prophet, Joseph Smith. Of the following twelve statements, all made by Presidents of the Church during times when they were serving as President of the Church, two were recorded in the Journal of Discourses, three were given as Messages of the First Presidency, one was printed in The Instructor magazine, and six were given during Church General Conferences. The last paragraph is from the Church publication “Principles of the Gospel”.

D&C 98: 4-7
4 And now, verily I say unto you concerning the laws of the land, it is my will that my people should observe to do all things whatsoever I command them. 5 And that law of the land which is constitutional, supporting that principle of freedom in maintaining rights and privileges, belongs to all mankind, and is justifiable before me. 6 Therefore, I, the Lord, justify you, and your brethren of my church, in befriending that law which is the constitutional law of the land; 7 And as pertaining to law of man, whatsoever is more or less than this, cometh of evil.

D&C 101: 77, 80
77 According to the laws and constitution of the people, which I have suffered to be established, and should be maintained for the rights and protection of all flesh, according to just and holy principles;
80 And for this purpose have I established the Constitution of this land, by the hands of wise men whom I raised up unto this very purpose, and redeemed the land by the shedding of blood.

D&C 109:54
54 Have mercy, O Lord, upon all the of the earth; have mercy upon the rulers of our land; may those principles, which were so honorably and nobly defended, namely, the Constitution of our land, by our fathers, be established forever.

“The General Constitution of our country is good, and a wholesome government could be framed upon it, for it was dictated by the invisible operations of the Almghty....” (President Brigham Young, July 4, 1854, Journal of Discourses 7:13-14)

“We believe that the Constitution of the United States was given by inspiration of God” (President John Taylor, April 9, 1882, Journal of Discourses, 23:53)

“[The Church’s] members are under divine commandments to revere the Constitution as a heaven-inspired instrument.” (Preident Wilford Woodruff, December 12, 1889, Messages of the First Presidency.)

“By revelation to Joseph Smith, the Prophet, the Lord declared that he had established the Constitution of the United States through “wise men raised up unto this very purpose.”
President (Joseph F. Smith, March 26, 1907, Messages of the First Presidency, 4:150)

“...we believe that the men who wrote the Constitution of this country were inspired of the living God.” (President Heber J. Grant, October 1919 General Conference)

“I thank God that we believe that the constitution of our country was given to us under the inspiration of the living God,...” (Heber J. Grant, October 1924 General Conference)

"I am saying to you that to me the Constitution of the United States of America is just as much from m Heavenly Father as the Ten Commandments." (President George Albert Smith, April 1948 General Conference)

“Next to being one in worshiping god, there is nothing in this world upon which this Church should be more united than in upholding and defending the Constitution of the United States,” (President David O. McKay, February 1956, The Instructor, 91:34)

“We urge members of the Church and all Americans to begin now to reflect more intently on the meaning and importance of the Constitution, and of adherence to its principles.
(President Harold B. Lee, November 1973, The First Presidency Statement on the Constitution, The Ensign)

“In the revelation he [the Lord] gave to Joseph Smith, he said [D&C 98:4-6]. (President Spencer W. Kimball, April 1974 General Conference)

“I testify that America is a choice land. God raised up the founding fathers of the United States of America and established the Constitution.” (President Ezra Taft Benson, October 2, 1988 General Conference)

“The Constitution under which we live....is our God-inspired national safeguard insuring freedom and liberty, justice and equality before the law.”
(President Gordon B. Hinckley, October 2001 General Conference)

“The men who framed the Constitution were directed by the Spirit of the Lord in establishing the basic freedoms guaranteed the citizens of this country....Unless we members of the Church do all we can to preserve the freedoms we have, within the bounds of the laws of God, we will be held accountable.” “The Constitution was established through the inspiration of God to preserve the liberty of the people and to maintain his promise.” (Principles of the Gospel, Page 135-136, Page 146-147, Published by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1991)

lundbaek, that is a great talk. I don't see how anyone could really take exception to it. Why should a lawyer be offended? He, of all people, should understand the Constitution. Unfortunately, too many people see the Constitution as outdated, and in need of revision. I see the appointment of Sotomayor as another step closer to the destruction of the Constitution.

He did include the very appropriate waterfall example. That our leaders simply are like, :( , Here we go... I think that could offend some people that they haven't listened these past 150 years. Also, most people don't view the Constitution as scripture. I was listening to a BYU President give a talk on the Constitution and he didn't hold it in the highest esteem that people like Joseph Smith did. He also didn't get the damage that was done in certain amendments.

That waterfall example I got from Whisperfox.

The only criticism I've gotten so far is that I take too literally what General Authorities have said about the Constitution, and that I shouldn't take it so seriously or hold it in such high esteem. The slavery compromise and other debated issues make the case that the Lord did not really inspire the Constitution.

My reply is that what prophets say in general conferences and in First Presidency Messages is scripture to me.
