and when I got to the part about being in the ocean without a compass, I was led back in thought to a time when I went far off the NJ coast on an inner tube with a working companion to the resurrected General Washington. They did the laundry for the Phoenix Manor.

And wouldn't you know it, this morning showed forth the first set of spring goslings around the pond - a perfect seven.
