Ancient Technology - Advanced Civilizations

Post by BruceRGilbert »

At some point in time, the arrogance of our present-day attitudes of having reached pinnacles of technology will become apparent. The Restoration isn't 200 years old and in that brief time span, great strides have been attained as the Spirit of the Lord via the "light of Christ" has permeated and inspired man. Consider other civilizations and their "golden eras," as it were. The Nephites had almost 400 years to advance as a "unified" society after the advent of the Son of Man. Too, pre-flood civilizations reached higher pinnacles. With longer life-spans, the "Ancients" had more time to unveil "natures" mysteries and attain knowledge. Consider the following vernacular with respect to the post flood, "Tower of Babel:"
Genesis 11:5 And the Lord came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded.

6 And the Lord said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do.

7 Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech.

8 So the Lord scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city.
There is much left to be realized.

The Liahona was probably not taken from God's garage shelf but rather was delivered to Lehi from a place some of the technology left over from Noah's age had been preserved. As for the Nazi thing I doubt most people on this forum have heard of the Vril Damen, Maria Orsitsch or Helena Blavatsky.

A key problem with your post is the fact that the antediluvians did not have longer life spans. And their technology was on Advanced. The advanced stages given in the Book of Genesis are and almost age by age copy from the Sumerian Kings list. The Sumerian Kings list predates the writing of Genesis by a great deal of time.

The Sumerians used exaggerated ages to give Credence and support to their true ruling Authority. They also use the name Melchizedek commonly. It meant the legitimate King. Though in Sumerian culture and the Assyrian culture after it the term melchizedek was used whenever one king killed another and took his throne. Hence the usurper was the name legitimate King. It shows up on countless cuneiform tablets.

So the exaggerated ages are a concept that predate the writing Genesis and are not original to that book. They were commonly used by cultures throughout the Fertile Crescent. We should not take them literally.

The documents even give Gilgamesh an exaggerated age. We know that Gilgamesh was a real man but his age and his Legend are not representative of his true life. They were used as a story to explain not only the creation but also man's purpose. What the writer of Genesis did was to take the stories and legends of the preliterate. And put them in a moral context and correct mistaken understandings.

Secondly the name Babel (bab =gate el= god) means gate of God. And every Sumerian and Babylonian City had such a tower, They were ziggurats and they were temples.

Along these lines it is interesting that there are cuneiform documents from Babylonian kings that predate the Bible stating that the kings of the area had the ability to read the writings from before the flood. But that cultural memory was lost.

If you are referring to the Sars periods then that would not be a correct interpretation as the kinds then would have lived thousands of years. I doubt the kings list was an adulteration of the true flood that would have taken place thousands of years before Sumer.
