Las Vegas mass murder

Post by Benjamin_LK »

Sadly, with a recent tragedy in the wake, 50 people and rising and hundreds more seriously wounded after a mass shooting by a man identified as Stephen Paddock.
Even worse is a CBS Reporter saying that they all deserved it because apparently all of them are not affiliated with the right party:

Speaking slowly and sombrely from the White House, Mr Trump declared the United States would rally together in the face of the latest act of senseless violence. We are joined together today in sadness, shock and grief … it was an act of pure evil.
Mr Trump praised the first responders who he said prevented further loss of life, and said he would visit Las Vegas on Wednesday.
He offered condolences to the families of those killed, saying "we cannot fathom their pain, we cannot imagine their loss".
"We are praying for you," he said. "We are here for you."
As a mark of respect for the victims, Mr Trump said the US flag would be flown at half-mast at the White House, naval stations, military posts, and at all public buildings for the next week."

"At least 50 people have been killed and more than 400 injured when a gunman with a high-powered weapon opened fire on an outdoor music festival in Las Vegas.
Police said the gunman, Stephen Craig Paddock, fired on a crowd of 22,000 people attending the Route 91 Harvest Festival on the city's famous Strip.
Thousands of concert-goers fled in panic as 64-year-old Paddock's rapid-fire barrage rained down from his hotel room on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino adjacent to the concert venue.
The death toll, which police emphasised was preliminary and tentative, would make the attack the deadliest mass shooting in US history, eclipsing last year's massacre of 49 people at an Orlando night club.
County Sherriff Joseph Lombardo said Paddock, a Nevada resident, was found dead inside his hotel room after heavily armed officers began clearing the hotel in their search for the gunman.
He is thought to have taken his own life and was found with more than 10 rifles, Sheriff Lombardo said.
Video posted to social media showed concert-goers fleeing the festival venue after a prolonged burst of gunfire. Some later reported initially thinking the noise was caused by fireworks.
Country singer Jason Aldean was performing the end of his set when he stopped singing after the noise of gunfire broke out.
Video from people in the crowd showed him fleeing the stage soon after.
The shooter's brother, Eric Paddock, said the family was stunned by news of his sibling's involvement.
"We have no idea. We're horrified. We're bewildered and our condolences go out to the victims," he said.
Two off-duty police officers who were attending the concert were among the dead, Sherriff Lombardo said.
Several hours after the shooting unfolded US President Donald Trump tweeted: "My warmest condolences and sympathies to the victims and families of the terrible Las Vegas shooting. God bless you!".
The Governor of Nevada Brian Sandoval has called the mass shooting "a tragic and heinous act of violence".
Some police officers took cover behind their vehicles while others carrying assault rifles ran into the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino.
Flights were temporarily halted at McCarran International Airport because of the shooting."

I live and work in Las Vegas.
Three of my close associates were affected by this horrendous attack.
Two co-workers were at the concert and escaped unhurt. Another coworker's daughter was at the concert and metro police went in and got her out. Two of her friends were killed.

A lady we know well in the next ward over (same stake as us) her sister was killed.
This was a real attack by a (purported) lone gunman.

Details and more facts will be forthcoming. 58 dead and 515 injured.
I listened to the early Youtube posted camera videos. Definately automatic fire. Because of the distance involved, must have been .308 caliber. Deeper bark than an 5.56mm....

CBS fired her only two hours after the message was posted. Good for you, CBS. I hate that someone had to lose their job, but that really is a repugnant opinion, and I would not want someone who expressed such a hateful opinion working for me. To Elder Ballard's and Cook's lists of hate we need to end, I think we need to add political hate.

This incident is going to be heavily used to try and justify total gun control now. And if they don't get it, the next incident will be even worse. A sad day in our nation's history.

If there is to be another American civil war, gun control would reduce the resistance to an occupying force with less access to weapons.

Look what happened in Spain yesterday, it hasn't escalated to civil war there yet, but when the populous has no way to fight back against oppression, it makes it a lot easier for the secret combinations to take over with their armies/police force.

“Eric, the brother of Las Vegas shooter Stephen Paddock, who killed at least 59 people from his hotel room at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino late Sunday, told the Orlando Sentinel that their father was Benjamin Hoskins Paddock.
“The elder Paddock, born in Wisconsin in 1926, had a host of other fake names and nicknames, including ‘Big Daddy’ and ‘Old Baldy,’ and was on the FBI’s Top Ten Most Wanted list from 1969 to 1977.
“Paddock was indicted in 1960 on three counts of robbing Phoenix branches of Valley National Bank, the Arizona Republic reported on Oct. 6 that year. He was accused of stealing close to $25,000 and was caught in the summer of 1960 by FBI agents in Las Vegas.”
“Bingo Bruce”, as he was commonly known, remained in the crosshairs of federal authorities for decades before finally being slapped with massive fines in the late 1980’s and passing away in 1998."

Some reports now starting to say he was Anti Fa, with pictures showing him at anti-trump rally’s in August. Not sure how credible but it does make sense, Anti Fa is the true violent hate group that we need to worry about.

Crazy conspiracy ahead.

Journalist are taught to “follow the money”. So let’s see who would stand to gain financially from this. As of this morning the stock in gun makers was up about 4.5 %. So, is it not reasonable in the “post truth” world we live in to suggest that those with a financial incentive were behind this crime to boost the value of their shares and companies?

No I’m not serious but this shows just how easy it is to construct a conspiracy theory out of just a bit of information.

One article I read was saying he used a bump-fire stock. So the rifle would still be semi-auto, meaning you get one bang for every pull of the trigger, but the stock uses the gun's recoil and your off-hand pushing the gun forward to pull the trigger for the next round. Basically, the whole rifle recoils, then bounces back against your trigger finger, firing it again. The accessory doesn't violate the legal definition of "machine gun," but still gives you a full-auto rate of fire, which proves the old saying about mousetraps and better mice. No idea how accurate the thing would be, but if all you need is a bullet-hose, this does the job, and is a lot easier than milling out your AR-15 receiver and fabricating your own auto-sear.

Here's one in action:

Yes, it is not reasonable to cast blame without any evidence. There's enough vitriol flying around right now without the tinfoil hatters making baseless accusations.

I am shocked those are legal, I know first hand accounts of people getting in big trouble with ATF for guns that accidentally fire automatically.

There is a lot of misinformation in this thread. Fully-automatic weapons are perfectly legal in the hands of private citizens as long as a lengthy registration process has been completed and a $200 fee is paid.

I am personally acquainted with more than one person who has them. If you want to try one out, go to Las Vegas Gun Range on Blue Diamond road. You will pay $100 or $200 or so for about 100 rounds? Or so. You will have to stand in line. The tour buses come in loaded with Japanese, Germans, Brits, etc who come to shoot full auto.

Not perfectly legal. Converting semiautomatics is not legal and from memory there is a limited number of fully auto guns that are legal by permit. No indication this guy had applied for any of it.

And be prepared to pay thousands and thousands of dollars, or become a manufacturer or dealer subject to all kinds of government regulations, and exist at the whim of the ATF.
