Re: What are your favorite video games of all time?
Now here's a thread I can get behind.
Right now I currently enjoy World of Tanks and Fifa 17. I've always enjoyed the NHL and Fifa EA lines.
My first console was the Intellivision, https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/ ... le-Set.jpg this was always better than the Atari IMO. I loved B-17 Bomber, Pitfall, and Night Stalker on it, just to name a few. Although I really enjoyed Raiders of the Lost Ark on the Atari.
My favorite Nintendo game was always Metroid and Mike Tyson's Punch Out.
I even had a Coleco Vision and couldn't get enough of Frontline on that. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZzQW_whY6eQ
My all time favorite arcade games were track and field and dragon's lair. I celebrated big time when I conquered Dragon's Lair.

Re: What are your favorite video games of all time?
Pretty much all the classic NES and SNES games already mentioned.
Some throwback PC games I still like to play once in a while, X-Com, Master of Magic, Master of Orion, and Monkey Island.
I liked WOW for a few years, but don't have time for it anymore. I still play Diablo 3 every once in a while though. Overwatch is still good too, but I am mining crypto on my PCs now so mainly have to play console now.
A few random games I've liked over the past couple years are Banner Saga, Civilization 5, Dragon Age, Banished, State of Decay, and This War of Mine.
Probably my favorite game out of everything would be the Walking Dead series by Telltale, the story mainly focuses on a girl named Clementine, and it is an amazing story to see develop over the several years they keep producing.
Although my favorite non video game would be Magic the Gathering.

Re: What are your favorite video games of all time?
When I was in the 5th grade we had an Apple II in the back of the classroom with that green monochrome monitor, loaded with Oregon Trail. We'd get turns to play on it in pairs. At some point one of us figured out the keyboard shortcut to interrupt the program and it would dump you into the source code. So naturally, being immature boys, we changed all the game dialogue to say stupid things, mostly about the girls in the class. Nothing too mean, just enough to get a rise out of them when it was their turn to play. Good times.WhereCanITurn4Peace wrote: ↑September 17th, 2017, 11:57 am Anybody play "The Oregon Trail"? "When I was a child . . ., I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things" (1 Cor. 13:11). Nevertheless, "men are, that they might have joy" (2 Ne. 2:25).CelestialAngel wrote: ↑September 15th, 2017, 12:31 pm What video games hold a special place in your heart?
Sometimes having joy (ok, fine, in this case, fleeting happiness through nostalgia) may include revisiting one's childhood as an observer, sometimes facilitated by opportunities to introduce the next generation to some classic games (a wonderful excuse, 'eh? .
Much revolves around a game that holds a special place in my heart. This includes the game itself: the graphics, music, sfx, story, controls, and so forth. And there's the setting in which I played it, whether at home, at a friend's, in an arcade, or in a pizza parlor.
Although far too numerous to mention, here are/were just a few of my favorite games:
Atari 2600 - Pitfall II, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Montezuma's Revenge, Jungle Hunt
Arcade - Crystal Castles, Marble Madness, Gauntlet, Crossbow
NES - Metroid, Zelda II, Super Mario Bros. II, Kid Icarus, Rygar
Sega Master System: Alex Kidd in Miracle World
Sega Genesis - Ghouls 'n Ghosts
SNES - Super Metroid, Zelda: A Link to the Past, Super Mario World, Super Mario Allstars
DOS - Space Quest III, King's Quest IV, Hero's Quest (Quest for Glory), Prince of Persia, Ultima VI, Day of the Tentacle, The Secret of Monkey Island,
The Legend of Kyrandia, Scorched Earth

Re: What are your favorite video games of all time?
If you had B-17 Bomber then you had the Intellivoice upgrade. Nice.dewajack wrote: ↑September 17th, 2017, 1:32 pm My first console was the Intellivision, https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/ ... le-Set.jpg this was always better than the Atari IMO. Intellivision was indeed superior to Atari in every way, but was underappreciated in its time. Sort of like Betamax and HD-DVD I guess. I loved the little plastic overlays you would slide into the controller to customize the layout, as much for the game art as anything. It's the little details.
Bomb Squad was another Intellivoice title our family enjoyed. Other favorites were Astrosmash, Lock 'n' Chase, Utopia, Frog Bog, Locomotion, and Space Hawk. So many fun games on that thing.
Speaking of Astrosmash. I was just thinking about how the rewards in video games were so basic back then, yet so compelling. This was a game where you control a little surface-to-air gun that could move back and forth horizontally and shoot straight up, and you tried to hit rocks as they fell, meteors I guess. They could hit your gun and destroy it, but if too many hit the ground that would also end your game. As basic as can be.
Anyway, each time you passed a level, the next one would have a different background color. And it was so exciting to get to a level you had never reached before, just to see what the new color would be. I still remember how amazing it felt to see a brand new color, like you were really in uncharted territory. ("Omigosh what is that? Turquoise? Everyone come look! I'm on turquoise!")
So many games were like this back then. The simple premise combined with frustrating difficulty made token rewards feel meaningful. You know it felt good to see a fruit on Pac-man you never saw before.

Re: What are your favorite video games of all time?
I used to love video games but they got too hard and I got too mad at them to play.
I always enjoyed sports games, mostly Hockey. My favourite game of all time is NHL 96 on the Sega Genesis.
Caslevania 4 is a good one though I am awful at the game.

Re: What are your favorite video games of all time?
We had a home version of the original Pong, the black controller with two dials.
I had a TRS-80 I remember playing a game called Quest II, you wandered around finding quests, trying to win fights, find gold, and overthrow a fort.
In the late 70's and early 80's I would go to video arcades. Some of my favorites were:
Galaga
Asteroids
Tempest
Donkey Kong
Q*Bert
Defender
Frogger
Pac-Man
When I got home from my mission in 1985, my Ricks College roommate had a computer with a Ghostbusters game, I played it a few times. Meh.
Since then I've lost interest in video games for the most part. I've done a few NES games and a couple of newer systems I don't remember, but they just don't interest me. I do like playing Rummy 500, Mahjong, and Solitaire on my phone occasionally, but I'd rather read, work on my book, or play with my dog. I'm thinking of getting back into blacksmithing, something I tried in my late teens but never really got too interested about.

Re: What are your favorite video games of all time?
For the most part, ive mostly "dabbled" in video games on occasion(never been very good); until two things happened: 1. My buddy gave me a PS3 in 2010 as a housewarming gift, and 2. Tron Evolution came out with the sequel Legacy. That was when I discovered the "Grid" actually existed, and I could battle people across the world in arenas using my disc, light cycle, etc...I was hooked. I had to actually get rid of the PS 3 and game, to avoid total addiction. I did purchase a used copy a few years later to play on the kids old Xbox 360, but I keep it at my nephews house, and only play it a few times a year to avoid problems. I just know that with the ever increasing power of evolving game platforms, the day is coming that even this game will be laughably primitively to what comes out with the next Tron movie.

Ultima IV, on the Commodore 64, is the best game I've ever played. Only C-64. Every other version sucked.
Galaga at the arcades is always a favorite. Don't forget the arcade Gauntlet.
The text version of Rogue is sweet.
I have burnt up literally months of time on Civilization games.
My boy recently started looking into League of Legends, so I might actually dump Star Wars: The Old Republic, and start up League.
And Eve: Online is the 2nd best game I've ever addicted myself to.

Re: What are your favorite video games of all time?
League of Legends has a huge learning curve. One of my sons is into it there are over a hundred champions, and to be any good, competitive you pretty much have to have most of their strengths and weaknesses memorized, and there are upgrade paths within the game that ususally lasts about 20 minutes - you need to know how to properly upgrade whatever hero(es) you play. You can get into it and fool around, obviously, but playing in competitive mode certainly seems to be a major time commitment.FTC wrote: ↑September 20th, 2017, 4:28 pm Ultima IV, on the Commodore 64, is the best game I've ever played. I've seen a lot of people mention the Civ games, and I don;t know how I overlooked it. The original Civ was honestly the first game I remember wanting to just get in "one more turn" and then it was 3:30 in the morning and honestly I had no idea it was that late. I don't love some of the tweaks to the later Civs, like they have different government types in one of them and it is clear that the game creators have a soft spot for Socialism...not a fan of that at all.

We had an Atari as a kid and I loved Pitfall and Qbert. No other versions have been as fun for me.
My best friend got a Nintendo and we spent hours playing Bubble Bobble. Fun game, happy music. Probably my favorite ever.
Lastly, I loved Gauntlet Legends for N64 because my husband and I played it while dating. Such good memories there.

Did you play the sequel? The Americana theme had some distinct notes of early Mormonism. Some good comparisons between Comstock and Brigham Young.

It's very difficult for me to envision grown men playing video games.
