Did not opt into any beta version. But what I'm seeing looks like I'm in Windows recovery mode, ugly... hope this isn't the future of the forum!!!

Re: Try the LDSFF 2018 Beta.. (new design, more mobile-friendly)
Oh that's much betterjdtech wrote: ↑September 15th, 2017, 7:00 pmHmm...just figured out how to hide (minimize) the navigation on the left. Definitely a better experience with it mostly hidden. Would still prefer to have the user info swapped with the post content though. White space on the right, to me, is definitely preferable to having white space down the middle.jdtech wrote: ↑September 15th, 2017, 6:57 pm If you could swap the user-name / info / avatar with the actual post content, that would probably be helpful. All the white space right down the middle of the screen doesn't quite look right to me (on a regular computer browser - don't know how it looks on mobile). I find that having to read the actual post content on the right edge of the screen somewhat annoying.
Otherwise, it looks really clean and nice. Navigation look and feel is different, but manageable and easy to adapt to.

Re: Try the LDSFF 2018 Beta.. (new design, more mobile-friendly)
I don't like it.
I didn't take the opportunity to try it out.
It was just involuntarily forced upon me by default.
I came to the site, clicked on, and this new format came on.
Can I go back and use the old one?
Thanks
dc
I don't think we needed a new format. The old one worked fine. No problems. No need to 'fix' anything. What's more is, I suppose this cost money. I can think of better places that money could have gone.

I tried it and went back.
too much white space
not enough page definition - stuff is just all over
information density way two low

It's better if you collapse the column on the far left. Try clicking the three lines next to "board index"Hidingbehindmyhandle wrote: ↑September 15th, 2017, 8:25 pmand font size too small for amount of white spaceHidingbehindmyhandle wrote: ↑September 15th, 2017, 8:23 pm I tried it and went back.

There is only one lds.org & setting display properties.
Quoted below is text from my most complicated post, to date. Your post was an excellent example, where the timing couldn't of been any better. Elder Bednar, described timing, such as this, as a "Tender Mercy" in his first GC address.
While there are many dictionaries, there is only one lds.org, and there we are sure to find our best examples.BeNotDeceived wrote: ↑September 14th, 2017, 8:18 pm ...... I just saved my text as God Speaks to Us in Ways We Can Understand, ... edit1 ldsff after saving it with "stub" in place of "edit1". Next ... Saving now, replacing "stub" with "fnl" after one last preview. Happy posting everyone, have an awesome day.https://www.lds.org/church/news/god-speaks-to-us-in-ways-we-can-understand-fairmormon-speaker-says?lang=eng wrote: ... “Heavenly Father is aware of our limitations and knows the factors that contribute to our limitations,” he said. “Despite our deficiencies, however, He also knows how to communicate important directives as we are able to receive them.”

Many Display Properties are device specific IAW User Preferences, typically set in the control panel. When submitting, bug reports it may be helpful to identify the type of device, version of software, and which browser that you are using and/or screen captures.
Snippet Savers has a new post, about how to insert screen captures in posts and IMs, that aren't too big. Just having a little fun, but if your alien is looking a little light, then please do give him something good to eat.
Edit was to add {/quote}

Looking at it on mobile now, and I can definitely see the appeal.
When showing the latest posts list there are no obvious links to the latest unread post, or the last post for any given topic.

Yes, there is a blue ball on the right which seems to take me to the last read post. I need the last read (by me) post, not the last post.
Also, it doesn't keep me logged in. When I come back I have to log in again. It won't "remember" me.
The old format was so nice.

Sorry, that was not intentional. It should be back to allowing you the choice now. We're still working on various improvements to the new design - for now you can choose either option (see the first post in this thread for instructions on how to switch).

Figured it was something like that. Thanks for all the hard work you keep putting into the site.BrianM wrote: ↑September 15th, 2017, 10:42 pmSorry, that was not intentional. Re: Try the LDSFF 2018 Beta.. (new design, more mobile-friendly)
Thanks for returning me to the old version.
To be fair, I can see why the new version might be better for mobile.
But the old version is really pretty good, but maybe better fit for desktop.

Re: Try the LDSFF 2018 Beta.. (new design, more mobile-friendly)
Yes, Hidey, I have to agree with that. Well, as to non mobile, I have no idea about mobile as I don't ever use mobile. And don't want to.
And yes, thanks that I was returned to the old format.
Maybe it could be set up with a different format for mobile than for desktop.
I do believe calguns does that. Yes, guns in California. A very big forum 150,000? And if I sign in with iPad it comes up all different, and down at the bottom there is a button, Use Old Format. On desktop the Old always comes on. And on iPad I have to click that button twice, then I can have old format even on my iPad.

Re: Try the LDSFF 2018 Beta.. (new design, more mobile-friendly)
More than 50% of overall internet use is on mobile devices these days. For LDSFF specifically it's:
- 50% mobile
- 40% desktop
- 10% tablet

YouTube videos still don't fit the window, and I know it isn't an issue with refreshing because other updates have taken affect in the interim.

Re: Try the LDSFF 2018 Beta.. (new design, more mobile-friendly)
I have a suggestion. There is a choice in the profile to chose the version.
How about a choice for desktop and a choice for mobile.
or a choice per browser.
You already have to go to the database to get my selection in order to respond.
Why not record what browsers I use and the selection i made for that browser.
Then qualify that query with the browser to determine version to use.
When I use a new browser, make a judgement as to desktop or mobile initially.
And if I then want to change it I can.
This should not be too difficult, and great benefits to your customers.
And you will probably find other yet undiscovered uses and will help
you cater new changes to the actual browser base.
I have solved many generalized problems others have not been able by
addressing each specific problem and refining the model by each case
until the model fits all known cases. And if I do the cases in the right order,
the customer benefits while I'm still working on the general solution.
Just a suggestion. Like I said, I like the interface as it is and think it is quality.
But I mostly use it on the desktop. If I could try out the new version on my mobile
devices with without having to administrate my profile each time, I would
try out the new version and be able to give more feedback,
Thanks for the forum,

Re: Try the LDSFF 2018 Beta.. (new design, more mobile-friendly)
I get an error anytime I try to use the search at the top (even in the legacy UI).
I didn't used to get these:
No route found for "GET /google-search.php"

I'm sticking to the 2015 design. I hope it remains an option.

Re: Try the LDSFF 2018 Beta.. (new design, more mobile-friendly)
I'm made a few more updates to the 2018 design. I hope more of you will consider using it. As time goes on the 2015 might not be an option. I feel like it's just a matter of getting used to the new design and you'll eventually think it's fine or better (if you don't already).
Also, I'm testing having the Google Ads only show up for visitors (people not logged in). For now, if you are using the 2018 design you won't see the Google Ads.
You might have to refresh the page a few times or clear your browser cache to correctly see all of the latest updates to the design.
I appreciate any additional comments and feedback.
Thanks.

Go to "User Control Panel" then "Board Preferences" and select a "Board Style".
