Did I miss it? (Temples)
Or was there no new temples announced during conference? If so, what temples were announced? If not, anyone know the last time at a general conferences no new temple construction was announced? I listened to every session, but must have missed it while dealing with a kid or something.

Geoff, didn't you see the unveiling of the new City Creek temple this past week in downtown Salt Lake? Here it is in case you missed it...LateOutOfBed wrote:Or was there no new temples announced during conference? If so, what temples were announced? Since President Monson was ordained to be prophet (Feb 2008), all new temples announced in conference have been during the October sessions. Any announced in the spring has been news releases several weeks before or after April conference- not during.

No you're not. There's enough of that pot stirring on the other two threads. But if you really cared, Truth, you would have answered the OP's question about temples. Or taken the time to find the answer for him.Truth B Known wrote:Geoff, didn't you see the unveiling of the new City Creek temple this past week in downtown Salt Lake? Truth,
Is it now your divine mission to spam every topic, even unrelated ones, with hate and vitriol? Grow up Truth and reserve your accidental sarcasm for discussions actually related to your chosen crusade. O:-)

Ahh, thank you. I thought I recall them being announced in April as well. Unfortunately, I usually have to play catch up because I miss it live due to Guard duty almost every time. So, watching it live I guess made this all feel so much more "real" if you will, and I was just surprised there weren't any announcements.
Thanks again,

That's the problem I see. All you've done is complain to a bunch of people who weren't in the decision making process without even asking those who were responsible. I'm a bit surprised you don't complain to us about decisions your wife makes. Why is that?

He is within his right to "murmur." That's the difference. And Flagg, I don't need to read your mind. A child can discern your desire for stirring contention. You didn't post here in the spirit of truth or learning, but rather to stir contention. Whatever is broken or missing in your life, I hope you find a way to fix it.

Re: Did I miss it? (Temples)
Brothers and Sisters here is the problem that I have with the spending of over $5 Billion on this project. Who here actually saw or heard "FAIR's" response to this project? For those that have not, let me paraphrase for you.
FAIR- stated basically that it is okay for the Church to build such a project, for long term investment purposes, and that they would receive a far better return on that investment, rather than throwing that money away by spending it on the poor. Because once you give it to the poor it's gone, never to be seen again.
So here is my problem. We could have built at least 100 more Temples in the U.S. with those funds, and even more in other countries. Also, correct me if I am wrong but we are told that, that is the Lord's money, right? Am I to believe that the Lord cares more to have a shopping center constructed, or to take that money and help those who are in dire need of it. I believe the long term payoff is the investment in men, women & children, because that kind of return can not be calculated in the grand design of the eternities. Just think of how many more missionaries and under educated people of the Lord that money could have helped expand His gospel. Again, I'm pretty sure the Lord care's not of the Rolex, Tiffany and other high end stores that most cannot even buy from? What about the teachings of past Prophets and Apostles to be humble in our livings, to be thrift, and not go into debt? There will be many, many people opening up charge card accounts at these stores, and purchasing goods that they really don't need, but just look great, or say look at me, Babylon!

Re: Did I miss it? (Temples)
Ok, so this thread is now about that. In my personal opinion, an area is only ready for a temple when the people of that area are worthy of it. The church can have all the wealth of the world, but if the people are not worthy/ready, then they don't get a temple. If God wanted, he could fill the Delta Center to the ceiling with gold in order to build temples and also to feed the hungry and the poor. But it is the people that should be feeding the poor and visiting people in prison and tending to the widows and fatherless. Read Matt 25. There are three very important parables that tie in together. There could be temples in every city on earth, but they would be empty because if the people aren't worthy, they will not attend. They're too busy complaining, or watching sports or wasting time NOT laboring in the vineyard. I can't imagine any of the few vineyard laborers having time to complain because they GET IT.
"No unhallowed hand can stop the work from progressing; persecutions may rage, mobs may combine, armies may assemble, calumny may defame, but the truth of God will go forth boldly, nobly, and independent, till it has penetrated every continent, visited every clime, swept every country, and sounded in every ear, till the purposes of God shall be accomplished, and the Great Jehovah shall say the work is done.”
So in my opinion, if our leaders have built this mall, then that's between them and the Lord. Who else are we going to sustain? What else are we going to do? Rise up? Start a new church a la Harmston? To what end? See this through to conclusion.
Beams and motes.

Oh, wow! Thanks coachmarc! And, I also agree with the person that suggested Flagg/Truth take his concerns to the brethren that made the decisions. Write that letter, Truth. There is no doubt in my mind that you will receive an answer. No one has ever said that you don't have a "right" to question. But rights and freedoms are not without responsibilities. This is what most here have been trying to say to you. Grumble quietly and seek the answers from those who can give it to you.

Re: Did I miss it? (Temples)
Honestly if flagg/truth wants to post about his crusade I have no problem with it but I do have a problem with him spamming and derailing topics with no legitimate connection. I think its disrespectful to those that post new topics and makes our entire board focused on one controversy rather than having a space where we can talk about many things pertaining to a common faith. So I'm honestly asking flagg/truth to allow us to have a board where there really is freedom to discuss things on our minds.

Oh he'll receive an answer, but from his stake president - not from "the brethren that made the decisions". As per the First Presidency letter issued a couple of years ago (see below), we, the rank and file members, are not allowed to contact our General Church leaders anymore - we must take all of our concerns to our local leaders and be satisfied with their answers.natasha wrote:And, I also agree with the person that suggested Flagg/Truth take his concerns to the brethren that made the decisions. Published: Saturday, Nov. 6, 2010
The First Presidency recently sent to priesthood leaders a letter to be read in sacrament meetings.
Member communications with Church Headquarters
In a letter dated Oct. 6, the First Presidency wrote:
Dear Brethren and Sisters:
Members of the Church continue to place telephone calls and write letters to Church headquarters about doctrinal issues and personal matters. By reason of their callings, local leaders are entitled to the spirit of discernment and inspiration to enable them to counsel members within their jurisdiction.
Accordingly, correspondence from members will be referred back to their local leaders for handling. Stake presidents who have need for further clarification about doctrinal or procedural issues may write to the First Presidency in behalf of their members.
It is our desire that all members will feel they have the support and guidance they need; however, all things should be done in wisdom and order. We believe that both members and local leaders will be blessed as they pray and counsel together in an effort to resolve matters of concern to them.
Signed by the First Presidency:
Thomas S. Monson
