Re: People claiming to have seen Christ

I am curious. How many people who have posted in this thread are living their lives seeking to rend the veil of unbelief (Ether 4) and see Him face to face as the brother of Jared? Not me. Why should that be the aim? This life is the time to prepare to meet God. I have no intention of rending the v...

Not so. I'm calling it now. https://www.ldsfreedomforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=46383 Good one. That's exactly what I was talking about. May I suggest carefully reading Ether 4, specifically, the verses cited? Allow me to emphasize one verse: 8 And he that will contend against the word of the Lord...

I used to live in a mobile home and also a modular. They're more cheaply built than conventional homes. As a general contractor and residential construction worker of 20 years, I would say all are fine. If you go the modular route, it's better to put it on a foundation, though check the local codes ...

I've been a member my whole life, recently looking over my beliefs and questioning many things in and out of the church, mainly spiritual, and how people pray and approach God, and come into a couple facts. Some say the bible says not to be emotionally based in prayer, and one president of the quor...

I've never read any such evidence, however Boggs' "Executive 44" extermination order on October 1838 was the result of Sidney Rigdon's own extermination order earlier that year on July 4, 1838 at their 4th of July celebration at Far West: We take God and all the holy angels to witness this day, that...

Nearer to God by abiding by its precepts... Ether 4 brings you as close as you'll ever get while in the flesh.

Re: How do we best educate adult LDS members w/o losing them?

Along those lines, quoting Nephi, "full purpose of heart," "acting no hypocrisy," and "no deception," it is easy to deceive ourselves, too. Or in other words, to quote a friend of mine, which is worth repeating here: God gives us what we want in life. Not what we would like to think we want in our c...

...If they follow your plan, do all you told me to do, cry rivers of tears, give up all their sins, follow the 'marc playbook' to the T, and still no Jesus Christ...then what? What an odd question. Then my answer is they didn't believe. They just went through the motions. They really didn't want it...

Even after reading my reply to you, I feel like I am not empathizing as you want, as a comforter. But I keep pointing you to Jesus Christ. I keep begging and pleading with you to turn to Him. I keep saying, stop trusting men, even me. But you keep wanting men to empathize and to comfort you and to r...

Re: How do we best educate adult LDS members w/o losing them?

Marc, our church is filled with people you described. I was one of them. Baptized at 8 to fulfill more or less the cultural and family pressure my parents felt. I don't fault them now that I truly understand, as a father, the pressure they were under. I don't blame myself because I was groomed to b...

Re: How do we best educate adult LDS members w/o losing them?

For a man like you, who has received the Comforter, it is all too simple to say 'stop complicating salvation,' but for thousands of LDS btwn 20 and 45 years old, they are scared, confused, some feel betrayed and even lied to. These are not members we have to lose but that can come back stronger tha...

Re: How do we best educate adult LDS members w/o losing them?

Stop complicating salvation. The rock is Jesus Christ. The wise man built his house upon the rock. Faith in Jesus Christ alone is what should be taught. D&C 11:1 A great and marvelous work is about to come forth among the children of men. 2 Behold, I am God; give heed to my word, which is quick and ...

True. Even Nephi who had been baptizing before Christ's visitation was baptized again and baptized again. 3 Nephi 19:11 And it came to pass that Nephi went down into the water and was baptized. 12 And he came up out of the water and began to baptize. And he baptized all those whom Jesus had chosen. ...

Re: My favorite Joseph Smith story ever. What's yours?

My favorite story is probably the one about the night of September 22, 1827. Joseph Smith was originally supposed to take Alvin with him to retrieve the plates from Moroni, but because Alvin died, Joseph didn't know what to do. Moroni had told him that he would receive the plates if he took the righ...

Re: Your best predictions on the Remnant Sects

In fact, according to my understanding, the following is true. It is more important for us to be baptized in this life, under proper authority and priesthood keys, than it is to see the face of the Savior. Let me repeat that in other words. Even if you see the Savior in this life, if you do not hav...

Re: My favorite Joseph Smith story ever. What's yours?

K, so the reference to Isaiah made me lol. Here's why I love the story I referenced: it's not extreme like the ones you mentioned. I think we expect the extreme from God, we mentally prepare for a God who wants nothing less than the extreme. But I think the true tests come with something as banal a...

Do we want to really be like JS, and really have the confidence to make those tough decisions before our Lord? I don't know if I want to be like JS, but I have been tested like that to make tough decisions. I would not be surprised if I have to face yet tougher decisions. Whatever the Lord requires...

Those are beautiful passages, Arenera. Whatever scriptures/revelations excite your mind to inquire after the Lord and to humbly approach Him and rend that "veil of unbelief" (Ether 4) are all worthwhile. Our journeys are as individual as we are. The desired result is what matters: Moroini 7:3 Wheref...

5tev3, that was beautifully put. I appreciate that you can see more than a singular of the integrated attributes of the Father (as well as the Son), whereas others myopically miss the others only seeing the one. Re: LoF: God is NOT a personage of spirit.

Once you understand that Joseph didn’t write the LoF you dont have to try to justify them. Once you understand that Joseph Smith made the "final revision of them," you can stop trying to justify that he wasn't involved with or did not teach from them in the school of the prophets, which was specifi...
