Re: Requesting some input on son leaving for mission and not 100% sexually pure

I know for a fact that they have been risky with regards to sexual promiscuity without actually having sex. My son does not know that I know this. He has admitted to having a small problem controlling himself but nothing big. I know that they have basically done everything there is to do except sex...

Re: Has the Church eased up on the restrictions regarding Temple marriages?

In Australia wedding ceremonies are in the Chapel, not in the Cultural Hall. Same here. Wedding in the chapel, followed by the reception (either in the cultural hall or another location), and then off to the Temple in the evening for a sealing. Everyone's happy. I don't get why this isn't acceptabl...

Re: BKP: "Have I seen HIM?"

BKP's reasoning never made sense to me when he applied it to the apostles. It's part of the job of the apostles testify of the reality of Christ's resurrection. That is done most efficaciously when someone testified they have seen Him. I don't understand why an apostle would choose not to declare su...

Re: Who has jumped off the Denver Snuffer train?

Well, I don't see this discussion going anywhere real. More endless debate and contradictory spiritual relativity. That's the nature of these things. I'm surprised this thread is still going on--I thought it had finally died a couple of weeks ago. Good to know that, whenever I stop in to see what's...

Re: Trump; End of GOP and win for Dems in November?

The evidence is quite plain to see. The establishment hates Trump. It should be obvious who to choose. Cruz is a hypocrite. Why think God will favor a man that uses his name in vain? Why are Utahans so gullible? All a man has to do is put on sheep clothing and they think he is a sheep. Does he herd...

Re: Losing Light

I've been down the road of separation from God. It's hard to tell the difference at first sometimes--you still receive a lesser portion of the Word so it's easy, at first, to feel like you're still doing the right things (Alma 12:10-11). It's not until the opposition comes and you realize the lesser...

Re: Donald Trump is the only true conservative

I wonder if "conservative" is even a useful term anymore. It implies conserving the established or traditional order. The order that's now established is by and large corrupt. Perhaps it's time for a departure from "conservatism" and a return to the founding principles of the nation--which at this p...

The law and government serves its functions, and when it functions properly it's a good thing. No, I wouldn't turn into a murderer or child molester if the laws were removed--but for those who would do that, what recourse would the rest of society have to ensure the safety of themselves and their fa...

God's house is a house of order. The sustaining vote is a chance to forgive those men of their shortcomings and then pledge to support them in their callings if you can, or say that you can't. It is not a place for your general disgruntlement. The main place for that is your prayers, as it is the L...

Matthew, I hope you've read enough of me to know that I'm not totally traditional. At one point I was riding the Denver Snuffer train and was becoming quite bitter toward the Church and its leaders due to all the "valid" criticisms I was imbibing. Btw, I see almost all the core teaching of Christ found in most religions, Buddhism being a prime example. At the priesthood session he talked about some men who were shipwrecked who had seen a rescue boat pass them by multiple times. I'm going to start using "oracle" to begin describing what I mean above. Thanks for the advice, jwharton! I don't think that the way the Church practiced polygamy was wholesome or of God, but I do agree that there hasn't been any real oracles received since it was abandoned. Whether that was a resul...

The Gospel, Book of Mormon, and The Savior's Church are right or they are not. The way you worded this brought a question to my mind: do you see all these things as interconnected? For example, do you think that if the LDS Church turned out to be false then, consequently, the Book of Mormon is not ...

The danger I see is that you are rejecting the Lord's prophets because they don't 'prophesy' in a manner you would like. I see this attitude as prideful, and imprudent. Found another take on the case: the author argues that, while Cruz could have refused to represent Texas on the case, the decision to keep appealing it wasn't Cruz's to make. http://www.thefiscaltimes.com/2016/01/12/David-Brooks-Slightly-Unfair-Attack-Ted-Cruz" onclick="window.open(this.href);retur...
