Prophets and Today

So we know that prophets can foresee the future and I'm sure we all hold Pres. Monson and the other 14 as prophets, seers, and revelators.

With all the buzz in the news about wars, and disease, and natural disasters, and financial markets collapsing, and secret government conspiracies/combinations what are thoughts about how much the church leaders are aware of what's coming and how soon it's coming but haven't told us.

I'm not looking for asinine speculation, just wondering what people's thoughts are on the matter.

At times I wonder how much about the future the church leaders actually are privy to. Right now we hear of warnings to get financially stable and spiritually ready but they've been saying all those things for years (always good to hear it again).

I have contemplated this same thought for some time. Just how much information is God willing to reveal to his leaders and saints since Lucifer will also eventually get the information. If I was running the operation I wouldn't want any information leaked to the enemy, only just enough given to trusted leaders; perhaps only revealing things such as, get a food strorage, get out of debt, attend the temple (and get your own personal revelation, etc.). If we look at the current crisis we are in, assume Lucifers ultimate plan is to enslave the nations then perhaps we might see the future a little more clearly.

What I see is a slow decline that will destroy those who think a recovery is around the corner and are not preparing. Those who are self-reliant, self-sufficient, out of debt, etc. will have the advantage i.e. those who have heeded prophetic counsel.

Maybe, we are not spiritually prepared to hear what they know, like the time of Moses.

After the Israelites had passed through the Red Sea, the Lord instructed Moses to lead them to the promised land. But first the Lord tested the Israelites’ faith in the wilderness. Many of the people lacked faith, complaining to the Lord instead of turning to him. When Moses when up to the mount to receive the fulness of the gospel he came back to a people full of idolatry, not ready to hear...the fulness of the gospel was withdrawn and the lesser law given instead.

President Spencer W. Kimball said:

“Idolatry is among the most serious of sins. … Modern idols or false gods can take such forms as clothes, homes, businesses, machines, automobiles, pleasure boats, and numerous other material deflectors from the path to godhood. …

“Intangible things make just as ready gods. Degrees and letters and titles can become idols. …

“Many people build and furnish a home and buy the automobile first—and then they ‘cannot afford’ to pay tithing. Whom do they worship? Certainly not the Lord of heaven and earth. …

“Many worship the hunt, the fishing trip, the vacation, the weekend picnics and outings. Others have as their idols the games of sport, baseball, football, the bullfight, or golf. …

Yeah .. but lets be honest ... anyone who follows global events could say the same thing, without specifics of some sort it is a generic statement and nothing more.

I think that if the Prophet or any GA would speak about the secret combinations and government corruption from the pulpit, the wrath and furry of the LGs would surely bear down hard on the church, perhaps to such a degree that the work being done for the people on both sides of the veil would almostly completely come to a halt. I am sure at some point that will come, but maybe the Prophet is choosing to keep working safely for now.
On more local levels, though I think we are being told subtly, but strongly to prepare. I remember a talk given in our stake conference a few years ago by Elder Bednar about how the voice of our Stake Presidency was every bit as important as the voice of the GAs and that we would be wise to give our local leaders our full attention. I think the world gives them less notice, so they can be more open in their direction.

Warnings are usually passed on down quietly and discretely to local leaders. You will not find open broadcasts of impending death and destruction. They will be given to your Stake President to pass on to the Stake members. I've seen this in action.

Yeah .. but lets be honest ... anyone who follows global events could say the same thing, without specifics of some sort it is a generic statement and nothing more.

I, too, have seen this model in action. I was living in a foreign country during the '90s when said country's economy collapsed. At the local level there were preparations made which included the purchasing and holding of basic food items. These food items were then distributed to the members post collapse during the time period when these foods could not be otherwise found or purchased. The Bishops have very distinct roles in the Lord's Church. One of which--at least as I understand--is the temporal welfare of those living within their unit. I have seen that role in action.
