Last week we were in the hospital with our three year old. He had to get admitted for pnemonia. We were in the hospital for three days with him and he is now fully recovered and at home with Grandma and Grandpa. But we are now in the picu of Denver Children's Hospital with our 1 year old Jacob. He has RSV and is really struggling and working hard to breathe. He was life flighted to the Denver hospital earlier today after taking a turn for the worse after we brought him into the emergency room. This has been one of the hardest things I have ever had to endure as a Mother or as a person really. It's very scary.

He currently is having help with breathing with a mask but if he doesn't improve the next step is life support so its a very serious situation. Please pray for his recovery. His name is Jacob. If you want to know his last name I can pm it to you. Thanks for any prayers you offer up in his behalf. We will be eternally grateful.

Thanks

You got it (prayers)!

Our son had RSV years ago and I absolutely hated it! 7 yrs later I still wake up to any slightest sound one of our kids make at night. I literally haven't had a full nights rest since then. As far as my son, I'm confident his lungs were damaged.

Good luck, it can be down right scary! It's torture watching your child cough so badly that he/she can't breath! :(

one thing that might help-
I gave my son a blessing a few hours before we rushed him to the ER and I felt that he would be OK. I still freaked out! Hind sight shows that I had a lack of faith in priesthood power and in the still small voice of the Holy Ghost. Like Peter, I sank! Not that going to the hospital was the wrong choice, I believe it was the right choice, but the horrible worrying I put myself through was completely unnecessary.
A few yrs prior to that incident I was serving a mission in Canada. I was about half way through when I got a letter from home letting me know that my mom had cancer and was extremely sick. That's literally about all it said! My step dad never was good with words! Not really knowing what to do I called my mission president for advice. he sensed my frustration and asked me if I had already found out if my mom would be OK. I told him I would like to call home and find that out! (Duh!!) He said I was welcome to call home if I wanted to but if I would simply ask Heavenly Father, the HG would let me know. I did just that and I immediately had a confirmation that she would recover. I never did call home, I already knew so I didn't worry about it. Yes, I worried about her pain and suffering but I never doubted or worried if she would survive.

For good or bad, get your confirmation! :ymhug:

Thanks SO MUCH for the prayers. I dont think there has been a time that I have been MORE grateful for the willingness of others to send up a few prayers for my families behalf. Thanks for sharing that with me shadow. I have been worried just sick and I have been praying for peace. I think I do need to get a confirmation from the HG. I think we are going to get another blessing for him tomorrow. He did get one before we brought him to the emergency room but I kind of felt like it was rushed and wasn't sure the blessing came from HF. So I think we are going to try and get some local members here tomorrow to give him a blessing and us one too. I definitely could use some comforting words from my Father in Heaven.

Again, Thank you so much for the prayers you selflessly offer in Jacob's behalf. We ended up taking his other mask off that was too big to try a smaller one but he just won't tolerate it and doesn't rest well with it so we took that one off too. I was feeling so incredibly frustrated. So at the moment he is not being assisted and his bpm is a little high but hes not retracting really bad like before and seems to be sleeping pretty well and really calm. Since the mask doesn't work efficiently for him I am hoping this is a turn around point and maybe we won't have to keep him on one anymore. That's the update for now but it has been a roller coaster ride and very up and down. I'll give another update soon. :)

You and Jacob are in my prayers TBS. Through a ward fast a little boy in our ward was miraculously healed about three months ago. I suggest you ask the same of your Bishop. Blessings. Oh, and it is going to be okay. God is definitely with you.

I was crying just reading your post. How badly I feel that you are going through such a difficult time. Being a mother is the hardest calling we have in life. I will keep you and your son in my prayers that he will be well again and that the spirit be strong with you giving you comfort.

So sorry to hear what you are going through. You are an amazing mother!

Yes, of course, Ashley -- as soon as I heard about the need.

Alma 7: 10 And behold, he shall be born of Mary, at Jerusalem which is the land of our forefathers, she being a virgin, a precious and chosen vessel, who shall be overshadowed and conceive by the power of the Holy Ghost, and bring forth a son, yea, even the Son of God.

11 And he shall go forth, suffering pains and afflictions and temptations of every kind; and this that the word might be fulfilled which saith he will take upon him the pains and the sicknesses of his people.

12 And he will take upon him death, that he may loose the bands of death which bind his people; and he will take upon him their infirmities, that his bowels may be filled with mercy, according to the flesh, that he may know according to the flesh how to succor his people according to their infirmities.

Sometimes we forget the "sicknesses" part, that He took upon Himself.... Let us remember!

So he's still got a ways to go in recovering but the good news is that we all beleive we have seen the peek/worst of this and that he is on the upswing of things now. So we are just continuing in prayer :) Im so relieved to think that he is on the upswing. (Though, Im told there are no guarantees but its seems very likely that he is) I am so thankful and happy that I really could shout. So much to be grateful for. Keep the prayers up because HF is listening. Thank you! :ymhug:

Dr John Raymond Christopher mixed garlic and petroleum jelly, and he spread it on the baby's feet. The baby recovered over night. It might make the feet a little red, but the results are worthy.

My heart is so full of gratitude that I feel it could burst. Now I TRULY know what it means to feel the desire to sing the Song of Redeeming Love. :) How things have changed since the first few days. There was a point that we really wondered if he was going to make it. :( We were so scared. Iv'e never felt that desperate or scared in my life. Or so helpless. But through all of the prayers and the earthly Angels Heavenly Father provided us Jacob is finally really improved. Since Jacob had improved I finally felt ok enough to leave to our sleep room and get a full nights rest. And we we're able to wake to the good news that Jacob is even much more improved now. His stats are almost back to normal and he looks better then I have seen him yet. They suspect they will probably be moving us out of the picu and into a different room today and that is really fantastic news.

Thank you all for your prayers and support. I can't express how much it means to me. Praise be to God on high and His Son for these tender mercies. :)

Just read through this thread....so glad to hear things are improving. Hopefully they continue to do so and you guys can go home. Having had my wife and a one month old daughter at Primary Childrens for several days with RSV after she had quit breathing at home (thankfully jump started back with a blessing)....I empathize with your situation. Hopefully you can get the rest you need as well!

Went throught the same thing here with RSV, as well; when our youngest was only 4 weeks old. His little newborn body was literally a blue/gray color and he was just gasping with all his might for every breath. He ended up being in the hospital for seven days under an oxygen tent - it broke my heart to not be able to hold him very often; it was a really hard time. Then he got RSV again when he was 6 months old, but being older he warded it off more quickly, and was only in the hospital for three days that time. We bought an albuteral inhaler for him, which got used many times in the subsequent years. Now he is 17 and healthy as can be, with no respiratory problems at all.

I'm very happy to hear Jacob is on the mend. Blessings and prayers to you all. :ymhug:
