Funeral today

Postby one4freedom » Sat Apr 14, 2012 6:48 pm

My wife's cousin passed away earlier this week and the funeral services were today. It was a pretty sad story, really. She was diagnosed with lymphoma last year a few months after graduating from Utah State, and a few months after her 22nd birthday. She was a really pretty girl with a bright future. She was a very gifted pianist and was one of very few to get accepted into the musical therapy program. In order to complete the requirements for the diploma, she was to spend 6 months at a health facility back east. She was unable to do this as she was diagnosed just before she was supposed to leave. She also had a missionary whom she was waiting for and writing to.

Anyway, the service was great. There was a huge turnout of family and friends. I have had time to process the loss as I felt it was coming for months, and I have a firm testimony in the reality of the resurrection and I know that the separation she will have from her family is only temporary. The head of the musical therapy program shared some experiences from her schooling, and presented the parents with the diploma she was unable to get because she didn't complete the 6 month program after graduating.

With all of her accomplishments, the thing that stood out to me about Celeste wasn't how well she did for herself, but the good she did for others. It was the theme for her life. She lifted those around her. She was a true disciple of Christ. She was a great example of service and touched many people's lives. I hope I can leave such an impression on the world when my time is up.

(I don't keep a journal, but wanted to write down my feelings)

Thanks for sharing that, one4freedom. She sounds like a truly wonderful young woman. It's a blessing to know all her talents and indeed everything that made her who she is, continues on and will never end. She will be an amazing missionary on the other side of the veil, no doubt. But it's sad for us, because we miss loved ones who leave ahead of us. The Savior commanded us to mourn with those who mourn, so it is good and proper to talk about it and express feelings and share. My heart goes out to you, your wife, and all of Celeste's loved ones. May you all find comfort in our Savior's gift to us.

Love and hugs, and God bless.

Stella
