"The Sudanese mother of two who was sentenced to death for being Christian has been freed after spending six months behind bars.
"Her family had been threatened before and we are worried that someone might try to harm her," said Mohaned Mostafa, one of her team of lawyers.
In Sudan, where Islamic law is implemented, leaving the Muslim faith is a crime punishable by death - and earlier this month even Ms Ibrahim's own brother called for the sentence to be carried out.
Her release was announced by Sudanese state media, which said that the Supreme Court had overturned the verdict and she was to be freed.
Ms Ibrahim's case was first highlighted when she was sentenced on May 15.
The court in Khartoum had ruled that she should receive 100 lashes for "adultery" - because it did not recognise her Christian marriage to the American citizen Daniel Wani - and then be hanged for refusing to "return" to Islam.
But Ms Ibrahim, who was born in eastern Sudan, close to the Ethiopian border, told the court that she had been raised a Christian, by her Ethiopian Christian mother. Her Muslim father left the family when she was six.
Less than a fortnight after she was sentenced, she gave birth to a daughter, Maya. Authorities kept her legs shackled for the birth.
Her son, Martin, almost two, was also in prison with her.
The judge ruled that Ms Ibrahim would not be executed for two years after the birth of the baby - but her husband and legal team were desperately hoping that the verdict would be overruled before then. He told The Daily Telegraph she was refusing to recant her Christian beliefs - despite the death sentence. "She is not going to renounce her religion, though," he said. "She told me that."
He said that they told her that the world was talking about her plight.
"We let her know," he said. "She really appreciates that and is thanking people. She wants people to support her and pressure the government to reverse the sentence."

"The assassination of a third Syrian journalist in Turkey in recent days is being blamed on Islamic State militants, with the latest killing raising deep concerns about the extent of the group's penetration into the country.
In broad daylight last Sunday, in the southern Turkish city of Gaziantep, 37-year-old filmmaker Naji Jerf was gunned down by a masked man. At the time, he was buying lunch for his family, accompanied by two friends. He was shot twice at close range in the face and torso.
The murder has sent Syrian activists and journalists in Turkey into hiding and prompted promises of asylum from an unnamed European country.
Jerf, the father of two, was a well known and popular reporter who had documented IS abuses and trained citizen journalists with the activist group, Raqqa is Being Slaughtered Silently (RBSS).
Syrian journalist and activist Ibrahim Abdelqader and a colleague were found partially decapitated in Turkey in October in an apparent double assassination. Islamic State is being blamed for the killings.
The group documents IS crimes against civilians in Syria. Jerf had just released his new documentary, ISIS in Aleppo, about Syrian activists killed by IS in that city.
He was also the director of Hentah, an independent monthly magazine supporting elements of the Syrian opposition.
His death comes just two months after two other Syrian journalist/activists, Ibrahim Abdelqader and Fares Hamadi, were stabbed to death and partially decapitated in the Turkish city of Urfa, an hour east of Gaziantep.
The pair had been active with another anti-IS group, Eye on the Homeland.
IS sleeper cells suspected in Turkish territory
As IS took territory in Syria, killing at least nine journalists, many media workers and civil rights campaigners took refuge in the relative safety of Turkey.
Gaziantep and Urfa, just 40 kilometres from the Syrian border and close to the IS capital, Raqqa, have become hubs for NGOs, aid workers and journalists covering the conflict in Syria.
IS sleeper cells have long been suspected of operating inside Turkish territory and the recent audacious murder of three journalists on Turkish soil has reinforced a clear message: IS enemies are not safe, even across borders.
Interviewed just two months before he was killed in Urfa with his colleague, Abdelqader told the ABC he had been threatened multiple times, but continued to document IS crimes and assist defectors.
Investigations into the murders suggest the two men were killed by an associate posing as an IS defector who had spent months cultivating a friendship, before fleeing back to Syria after the murders.
Other Syrians in Urfa have refused to be interviewed by western journalists, fearing retribution from IS members they say are definitely operating in Turkey.
A martyrs funeral was held for Jerf in Gaziantep on Monday amid heightened security. Many of the 100 mourners sang revolutionary songs and chanted: "We are all Naji."
"I was burying my friends in Syria, now I am burying them in Turkey," said Mazen Gharibah, a Syrian opposition activist and close friend of Jerf, who was at the hospital when he died.
While the outpouring of grief and support for Jerf has been loud, activists are now making plans to leave the country. The ABC understands all those affiliated with RBSS have been offered asylum in a European country.
"All the activists are really afraid," Mr Gharibah said.
"Naji had released his film just 10 days ago ... we all know that's why he was killed."
Calls for greater security for media
In the last conversation with his friend just days before his murder, Jerf told Mr Gharibah he had been threatened and planned to leave Gaziantep for Istanbul to celebrate his daughter's birthday, before travelling to France this week, where he had recently been granted asylum.
"He was really courageous. He cut his hair and changed his appearance, but IS must have known he was leaving," Mr Gharibah said.
The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) has called on the Turkish government to provide greater security for media workers and for authorities to swiftly find his killers. An investigation into the three deaths is underway, but so far no one has been arrested.
CPJ Middle East and North Africa co-ordinator, Sherif Mansour, said the assassinations, and the escape of Abdelqader's and Hamadi's killer to Syria, were carefully planned using sophisticated intelligence that must have been coordinated with operatives on Turkish soil.
"Syrian journalists who have fled to Turkey for their safety are not safe at all," Mr Mansour said in a statement.
"But if journalists decide not to cover these stories because it is too dangerous, then the stories won't be told and the terrorists win."

"THE former neighbour of San Bernardino gunman Syed Farook has been slapped with more charges alongside his previous charge for conspiring to carry out terror attacks in California in 2011 and 2012.
Enrique Marquez Jr, 24, purchased two of the weapons used by Farook and his wife Tashfeen Malik in their brutal massacre at the San Bernardino County social services agency’s holiday party on December 2. The attack killed 14 people and wounded 22 others.
Marquez Jr is already facing charges for providing weapons for the attack, and for conspiring with Farook to carry out terror attacks in 2011 and 2012. They planned to use pipe bombs and guns to kill fellow students at Riverside City College, a school they had both attended, and to gun down motorists stuck in rush hour traffic on the 91 Freeway in California.
But he is now also facing charges for lying when acquiring the firearms, and for immigration marriage fraud.
Marquez Jr has also been charged with immigration fraud for a sham marriage with a Russian woman, Mariya Chernykh. Chernykh is also the sister of the woman married to Farook’s older brother.
The couple live together according to immigration papers, but records reveal she actually lives in Ontario and he lives in Corona. He claims he was paid to marry her.
The FBI’s assistant director in charge of the Los Angeles field office, David Bowditch, said the covert nature of Marquez Jr’s alleged actions are a “stark reminder of the challenges we face in preventing attacks planned in the name of violent jihad, and underscores the critical need for those with knowledge about terror plots to come forward.
Marquez Jr has not entered a plea but is expected to in an arraignment on January 6. He is being held without bail.
He has not been accused of playing an active role in the December 2 attack.

Take, for example, Fatwa #64: the “do”s and “don’t”s of raping female captives (a fatwa is a legal opinion or learned interpretation issued by a Muslim cleric and has the force of law).

"A VIDEO of teenagers lighting a petrol bomb under a Christmas tree while yelling “Allahu Akbar” has sparked outrage in Belgium.
The incident occurred in a square near the Clemenceau metro station in Anderlecht, in the Belgian capital Brussels, on New Year’s Eve.
In the video, originally uploaded to Facebook and later posted to Liveleak, a group of people approach the tree before one throws an object underneath.
Seconds later an explosion can be heard, and the tree is quickly engulfed in flames. As they run away, the teens can be heard yelling “Allahu Akbar”.
The original uploader, named as Mohamed Amine in the video description, has since taken down his Facebook page.
Brussels residents took to Facebook to express their outrage. “Today they will set fire to a Christmas tree, tomorrow they will behead a Christian,” wrote one man.
“When they celebrate Ramadan nobody bothers then, so why do they attack the beliefs of others?” another said. “We will not stop celebrating the birth of Jesus.”
One man said he was “shocked by what I saw last night in Brussels”.
“Brussels is no longer a free city,” he wrote. “Anyone who has ever had the opportunity to travel abroad may realise that the situation in Brussels is neither normal nor tenable in the long-term.
“Brussels will die economically, socially and touristically, especially if no drastic policy is conducted within 10 years. I am very serious.”
One man described the attack as an “act of racism [and an] attack [on] our customs”, while another said: “The only solution is to return foreign offenders to their country with a good @#$-kicking.”
It followed a second video taken on the same evening showing a gang of youths pushing a car down an escalator of the Clemenceau metro station.
The car crashed on its side while shocked riders watched from an adjoining escalator, as the youths run away swearing and yelling. No one was injured but train services were suspended for the rest of the evening
One of the youths was arrested, local news site HLN reported. It is not known whether it is same group of youths in both videos.
Brussels MP Jamal Ikazban hit out at the both the perpetrators and security services on his Facebook page, The Daily Mail reported. “I have a thought for the person who wakes up quietly this January 1 and finds out that his car is in the subway,” he said.
“It is not only not funny, but what is the most frightening it is to imagine that it is possible to take a car in the underground despite the warnings of level 3 AND 4, the presence of the military, the many cameras.
“Let us imagine for a moment that same car full of explosives in the subway and you will understand that we are entitled to ask ourselves the question of the effectiveness of all these new security measures.”
Belgium has been on high alert since the Paris attacks, and the Brussels suburb of Molenbeek in particular has been singled out as the terror capital of Europe and a breeding ground of extremists. The country cancelled many New Year’s Eve celebrations altogether due to fears of terrorism."

"PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A man using a gun stolen from police said he was acting in the name of Islam when he ambushed an officer sitting in his marked cruiser at an intersection, firing shots at point-blank range, authorities said Friday. Both the officer and suspect were injured during the barrage of gunfire.
The suspect, 30-year-old Edward Archer, also pledged allegiance to the Islamic State group when he was questioned after his arrest.
The shooting of Officer Jesse Hartnett was an attempted assassination, Police Commissioner Richard Ross said.
“He just came out of nowhere and started firing on him,” Ross said of the suspect. “He just started firing with one aim and one aim only, to kill him.”
Ross said Archer told police he believed the department defends laws that are contrary to Islam.
“It stands to reason there is more unknown than known,” Ross said.
Archer’s mother, Valerie Holliday, told The Philadelphia Inquirer he has been hearing voices recently and that family asked him to get help. She also described him as devout Muslim.
The gunman fired at least 13 shots toward Hartnett and eventually got up next to the car and reached through the driver’s-side window. Despite being seriously wounded, Hartnett got out of his car, chased the suspect and returned fire, wounding his attacker.
Hartnett, 33, was in stable condition. Archer was treated and released into police custody.
“I don’t know how this officer survived,” Ross said.
The gun used by Archer was stolen from an officer’s home in 2013, police said. Officials said they were trying to figure how Archer got the weapon and whether it passed through other people’s hands in the time since the theft.
The officer’s father, Robert Hartnett, said his son was in good spirits.
“He’s a tough guy,” he said.
Hartnett served eight years in the Coast Guard and joined the police five years ago. He always wanted to be a police officer, his father said.
When Hartnett called in to report shots fired, he shouted, “I’m bleeding heavily!” into his police radio.”

America is now, and always has been the enemy of Islam. This is because America is non-Islamic. In fact, America is the antithesis of Islam because it codifies, among other freedoms, freedom of religion. Islam does not tolerate this.
Nor does Islam tolerate any law contradicting “Sharia,” however Sharia may be defined by the Islamists in power at the time. Islam does not tolerate any non-Islamic form of political or social organisation.
Nor does Islam tolerate the concept of personal liberty. Under normal circumstances, this fact would send a shiver down the spine of every liberal, as well as every conservative. But for some reason, those who clearly see this are dismissed as Islamophobes.
I admit, it is easier to label someone as an Islamophobe than it is to confront the problem of Islamism. But let’s face it – confront it we must.
It is true that most individual American Muslims are as nice and friendly as anyone you will ever meet, non-violent, and as likely to be as fundamentally Islamic as your average Christian is to be fundamentally Christian. But those raised in Islamist countries may have radically different views of social order than most of us. Politically, they tend to organize as Islamists. And once a critical mass is reached, the Jihad of fundamental Islam tends to take precedence over the benign aspects of Islamic religious practice.
The problem of Islam’s incompatibility with American values first surfaced when our Republic was born. It confounded even our founding fathers. They strove mightily to be conciliate with Islam, but their efforts ultimately failed.
Brian Kilmeade’s book, Thomas Jefferson and the Tripoli Pirates, describes this situation very well. In 1786, George Washington was President, John Adams was America’s ambassador to Great Britain, and Thomas Jefferson was Minister to France.
Israel did not exist. America had not “invaded” Iraq. There were no “videos” to blame America for. There was no Abu Ghraib or Guantanamo Bay. America had not “mistreated” Muslims in Bosnia. There was no American “colonialism.” There were no “American values” interfering with anyone anywhere. America had no military presence in any Islamic state. America did not even have a navy.
And yet, when Adams and Jefferson tried to negotiate a tribute to avoid war with the Islamic states along the Barbary Coast, they finally asked by what right these states could justify war “upon nations that had done them no injury.” They were told by Tripoli’s ambassador:
“According to his holy book, the Qur’an …
all nations which had not acknowledged the Prophet
were sinners, whom it was the right and duty
of the faithful to plunder and enslave.”
You see, it was never about what America did – it was about what America wouldn’t do – become an Islamic state.
Despite what Obama may say, this is the penultimate demand of political Islam. It is folly to think that this has changed. Islamic political demands are otherwise insatiable.
Back then, the Islamic states kept raising the price of peace until the cost of appeasement became unbearable. When America couldn’t make the payments, they declared an offensive Jihad against American ships, striking out beyond their waters.
President Washington – the gold standard of American resolve – was at least as war-weary as any contemporary American can claim to be now. He did not want to fight the Barbary States. America had no navy, nor any money to build one; it was as broke then as it is now.
The same political divisions existed then as do now – Adams had always believed that war would be too costly to win, and that the enemy could be appeased with tribute. Jefferson believed the enemy should be confronted and destroyed, and an armed fleet in “constant cruise” established to protect our ships.
But by the time Jefferson became president, the problem had come to a head. Unless the Islamists were paid ever-increasing tribute, they would capture non-Islamic ships and enslave its sailors. They were as brutal as ISIS – chopping off heads, burning people alive, impaling them on spikes.
Ultimately, like it or not, America needed a navy. Thankfully, George Washington had the foresight to build one, as a hedge against the eventuality of its need. So there was war, and America prevailed.
Ironically, America built its navy and became an international military power because of Islam, in its own self-defense.
I can’t say that American leadership today has the same foresight that George Washington had. Because the demands of Islam can never be appeased, a future president will eventually face the same conundrum that Jefferson did. Only by that time, the Islamists may have been given the upper hand.
Fundamental Islam more than just a religion – it’s political tenets are the antithesis of American liberty. It enslaves and murders its opponents. The only difference is that today, politicians would rather hide this truth from us than admit it. But as Adams and Jefferson found out, what can’t go on forever won’t.
May the long shadow of the Tripoli pirates reach out to us, chill us to the bone, and awaken us to our peril before it is too late."

Jefferson believed the enemy should be confronted and destroyed, and an armed fleet in “constant cruise” established to protect our ships.
But by the time Jefferson became president, the problem had come to a head. Unless the Islamists were paid ever-increasing tribute, they would capture non-Islamic ships and enslave its sailors. They were as brutal as ISIS – chopping off heads, burning people alive, impaling them on spikes.
Ultimately, like it or not, America needed a navy. Thankfully, George Washington had the foresight to build one, as a hedge against the eventuality of its need. So there was war, and America prevailed.
Ironically, America built its navy and became an international military power because of Islam, in its own self-defense.
I can’t say that American leadership today has the same foresight that George Washington had. Because the demands of Islam can never be appeased, a future president will eventually face the same conundrum that Jefferson did. Only by that time, the Islamists may have been given the upper hand.
Fundamental Islam more than just a religion – it’s political tenets are the antithesis of American liberty. It enslaves and murders its opponents. The only difference is that today, politicians would rather hide this truth from us than admit it. But as Adams and Jefferson found out, what can’t go on forever won’t.

Investigators said Archer told them he was “following Allah” and pledged allegiance to the Islamic State group, and he believed the police department defends laws that are contrary to Islam. Authorities believe Archer traveled to Saudi Arabia in 2011 and to Egypt in 2012 and are investigating the purpose of those trips. FBI special agent Eric Ruona said Sunday that as U.S. authorities work with partners overseas, it would take time to find any potential terror connections, and it was too early for any meaningful comment on the subject.

Police logs from the night reveal the full horror the women experienced when they were set upon by the out-of-control mob of men on the steps of the city's historic Cathedral.
The notes reveal how women complained they were surrounded by men who tried to put their hands inside their tights and knickers and even insert their fingers in their vaginas.
One woman told police she was surrounded by 20 men of North African appearance before they attacked her, while another said hands were 'all over her breasts and buttocks'.
Thieves rifled through a woman's handbag while others distracted her by shoving their hands underneath her clothes.
In an appalling catalogue of complaints, the women who were attacked by up to 2,000 men during a fireworks display in the square by the Cathedral in front of Cologne's train station told how they had mobile phones, bank cards and cash stolen.
One reads: 'Several injured women. All suffered attempts to introduce fingers in vaginas, tights. All were touched on the chest and buttocks. Finger was introduced inside a victim.'

In a searing indictment of the behaviour of the refugees, the unnamed woman said her idealism had been eroded and virtually destroyed.
At first she was enthusiastic and wanted to help out with processing the tens of thousands of migrants arriving in Germany on a weekly basis when they first began to arrive.
The unnamed woman from Hamburg, Germany, claims her idealism had been eroded and virtually destroyed after working with the refugees.
Now, she told the Welt am sonntag newspaper, she is disillusioned, disheartened and on the verge of quitting as the situation deteriorates.
Describing how she applied for the job because it was 'exactly' what she wanted to do, she said her enthusiasm drained away in the first few days.
She has worked at the centre since autumn 2015 and the newspaper said it had her identity - but would not reveal it at her request.
'Many of them are extremely demanding,' she explained. 'They come to me and ask to get an apartment and a fancy car and, best of all, even a really good job for them.

Ralf Jaeger, the interior minister of North Rhine-Westphalia state, released initial findings of a criminal probe over the crime spree that has piled pressure on Chancellor Angela Merkel over her liberal stance towards refugees.
'Witness accounts and the report by the [local] police as well as findings by the federal police indicate that nearly all the people who committed these crimes were of foreign origin,' he said.
Although no formal charges have been laid, Jaeger said the attackers emerged from a group of more than 1,000 'Arab and North African' men who gathered between the main railway station and the city's iconic Gothic Cathedral during the year-end festivities.
After far-right protests erupted in Cologne during the weekend, a sister group of the xenophobic PEGIDA movement was due to hold another rally later Monday in the eastern city of Leipzig."

A female asylum seeker helper working in a Hamburg refugee registration centre is poised to quit because of cheating, death threats and demands for a luxury life from the migrants.
In a searing indictment of the behaviour of the refugees, the unnamed woman said her idealism had been eroded and virtually destroyed.
At first she was enthusiastic and wanted to help out with processing the tens of thousands of migrants arriving in Germany on a weekly basis when they first began to arrive.

She has worked at the centre since autumn 2015 and the newspaper said it had her identity - but would not reveal it at her request.
'Many of them are extremely demanding,' she explained. 'They come to me and ask to get an apartment and a fancy car and, best of all, even a really good job for them.
'If I try to explain to them that's not possible, they are often noisy or even really aggressive.'
