Most Abominable and Wicked Above All

This forum is for discussion of Secret Combinations: who/what they are and how to overcome them. "A secret combination that seeks to overthrow the freedom of all lands...is increasing its evil influence and control over America and the entire world." (ETB / Ether 8:18-25.)

Most Abominable and Wicked Above All

Postby LdsMarco » Tue Apr 11, 2017 12:09 am

“Wickedness is rapidly expanding in every segment of our society. (See D&C 1:14–16; 84:49-53.) It is more highly organized, more cleverly disguised, and more powerfully promoted than ever before. Secret combinations lusting for power, gain, and glory are flourishing. A secret combination that seeks to overthrow the freedom of all lands, nations, and countries is increasing its evil influence and control over America and the entire world.

I note that in that October 1988 conference address President Benson did not tell us what to do about it. Any thoughts as to why he did not give us directions as he often did in past conference addresses ? Just a year before, in the October 1987 General Conference, he told us things that we "must" do Re. the U.S. Constitution. But this time he did not tell us to awake to our awful situation or to "suffer not that those murderous combinations shall get above you" which are built up to get power and gain..." That era seems to have been a turning point, or the point of no return, when there was no longer any way we could have reversed our course into tyranny.

Although I have read those conference talks many times over the years, I didn't make that observation of change until you pointed it out. Thanks! It is interesting that after President Benson warned us in 1988 about "A secret combination that seeks to overthrow the freedom of all lands, nations, and countries is increasing its evil influence and control over America and the entire world"[/color] he then gave us some instructions on what is about to happen and what we need to do to prepare ourselves:

"I testify that as the forces of evil increase under Lucifer’s leadership and as the forces of good increase under the leadership of Jesus Christ, there will be growing battles between the two until the final confrontation. As the issues become clearer and more obvious, all mankind will eventually be required to align themselves either for the kingdom of God or for the kingdom of the devil. As these conflicts rage, either secretly or openly, the righteous will be tested. God’s wrath will soon shake the nations of the earth and will be poured out on the wicked without measure. (See JS—H 1:45; D&C 1:9.) But God will provide strength for the righteous and the means of escape; and eventually and finally truth will triumph. (See 1 Ne. 22:15–23.)

I testify that it is time for every man to set in order his own house both temporally and spiritually. It is time for the unbeliever to learn for himself that this work is true, that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the kingdom which Daniel prophesied God would set up in the latter days, never to be destroyed, a stone that would eventually fill the whole earth and stand forever. (See Dan. 2:34–45; D&C 65:2.) It is time for us, as members of the Church, to walk in all the ways of the Lord, to use our influence to make popular that which is sound and to make unpopular that which is unsound. We have the scriptures, the prophets, and the gift of the Holy Ghost. Now we need eyes that will see, ears that will hear, and hearts that will hearken to God’s direction.

I testify that not many years hence the earth will be cleansed. (See D&C 76:41.) Jesus the Christ will come again, this time in power and great glory to vanquish His foes and to rule and reign on the earth. (See D&C 43:26–33.) In due time all men will gain a resurrection and then will face the Master in a final judgment. (See 2 Ne. 9:15, 41.) God will give rewards to each according to the deeds done in the flesh. (See Alma 5:15.)"

My take on what he was telling us to do are 1) individually we must live righteously, strengthen our testimonies, live the gospel, 2) we must strive to promote righteous principles in our community, 3) Study the scriptures and instructions from our prophets, 4) develop our spiritual eyes, ears, and hearts to be in tune with God, and 5) act on that inspiration. As we do these things, we are told that God will strengthen us and provide a means of escape from whatever calamity may befall us before truth will finally triumph.

The only warning together with instruction/direction directed to the entire Church Re. dealing with the secret combination since President Benson's October 1988 warning that I have found appears on Pg. 23 of the August 2010 Ensign magazine; President Boyd K. Packer, in the August 2010 Ensign, Pg. 23, using Ether 8: 20 & 23-24 as reference, told us that, "We live in a time of war, that spiritual war that will never end. Moroni warned us that the secret combinations begun by Gadianton are had among all people. . . . Wherefore, O ye Gentiles [and the term gentile in that place in the Book of Mormon refers to us in our generation], it is wisdom in God that these things should be shown unto you, that thereby ye may repent of your sins, and suffer not that these murderous combinations shall get above you. . . . Wherefore, the Lord commandeth you, when ye shall see these things come among you that ye shall awake to a sense of your awful situation, because of this secret combination which shall be among you.” [Ether 8:20, 23–24].

Last December I was prepared to call this to the attention of our SS class when we got to the section that addrressed Ether 8. But wouldn't you know that SS class was cancelled that Sunday to make room for some other thing that I don't even remember now.

A year or so ago when the Priesthood/Relief Society Manual dealt with the life and teachings of President Benson I was hoping that there would be at least one of the chapters that would deal with President Benson's warnings about secret combinations but much to my disappointment, there was not a hint of this important topic.

I concluded that maybe the Lord is testing us individually to see if we would seek knowledge about this without being spoon fed. We are encouraged by Church leaders to read the Book of Mormon and learn from it but the Church is not telling us exactly what we are to look for. I also felt that if the Church were to come out and explain in detail what is happening in regard to secret combinations, there would be a number of members who would abandon the Church and complain about the Church taking a political stand. I believe this would also result in the PTB releasing the hounds of hell on the Church, the loss of the 501 C-3 tax exempt status, and the missionary work would come to a screeching halt.

A further possible result would be members of the Church seeking to join the Secret Combinations as Alma warned Helaman against telling much detail about the operations of the secret combinations during the Jaredite reign. Alma 37:21-32

21 And now, I will speak unto you concerning those twenty-four plates, that ye keep them, that the mysteries and the works of darkness, and their secret works, or the secret works of those people who have been destroyed, may be made manifest unto this people; yea, all their murders, and robbings, and their plunderings, and all their wickedness and abominations, may be made manifest unto this people; yea, and that ye preserve these interpreters.

22 For behold, the Lord saw that his people began to work in darkness, yea, work secret murders and abominations; therefore the Lord said, if they did not repent they should be destroyed from off the face of the earth.

23 And the Lord said: I will prepare unto my servant Gazelem, a stone, which shall shine forth in darkness unto light, that I may discover unto my people who serve me, that I may discover unto them the works of their brethren, yea, their secret works, their works of darkness, and their wickedness and abominations.

24 And now, my son, these interpreters were prepared that the word of God might be fulfilled, which he spake, saying:

25 I will bring forth out of darkness unto light all their secret works and their abominations; and except they repent I will destroy them from off the face of the earth; and I will bring to light all their secrets and abominations, unto every nation that shall hereafter possess the land.

26 And now, my son, we see that they did not repent; therefore they have been destroyed, and thus far the word of God has been fulfilled; yea, their secret abominations have been brought out of darkness and made known unto us.

27 And now, my son, I command you that ye retain all their oaths, and their covenants, and their agreements in their secret abominations; yea, and all their signs and their wonders ye shall keep from this people, that they know them not, lest peradventure they should fall into darkness also and be destroyed.

28 For behold, there is a curse upon all this land, that destruction shall come upon all those workers of darkness, according to the power of God, when they are fully ripe; therefore I desire that this people might not be destroyed.

29 Therefore ye shall keep these secret plans of their oaths and their covenants from this people, and only their wickedness and their murders and their abominations shall ye make known unto them; and ye shall teach them to abhor such wickedness and abominations and murders; and ye shall also teach them that these people were destroyed on account of their wickedness and abominations and their murders.

30 For behold, they murdered all the prophets of the Lord who came among them to declare unto them concerning their iniquities; and the blood of those whom they murdered did cry unto the Lord their God for vengeance upon those who were their murderers; and thus the judgments of God did come upon these workers of darkness and secret combinations.

31 Yea, and cursed be the land forever and ever unto those workers of darkness and secret combinations, even unto destruction, except they repent before they are fully ripe.

32 And now, my son, remember the words which I have spoken unto you; trust not those secret plans unto this people, but teach them an everlasting hatred against sin and iniquity.

My efforts to make Latter-day Saints aware of their divinely mandated responsibilities to study, uphold and abide by the principles of the US Constitution in the tradition of the Founding Fathers, or as the Founders meant it to be understood, and to understand and support the proper role of government according to gospel principles involves promoting awareness of what I believe is a doctrinal imperative or divine mandate to learn and abide by the principles of the US Constitution as He who established it intends it to be understood. They also include making people aware of the conspiracy to overthrow the freedoms of all lands, nations, and countries and establish a single global government, a plan to establish a global government and gaining control over and making a shambles of America and destroying what is left of our constitutional republic government and turning our nation into a highly centralized socialist state. In my own ward I feel like "A Lonely Little Petunia in the Onion Patch".

I would like to help prepare that remnant that will help restore the Constitution after the "CLEANSING", although I rarely mention the cleansing. People, especially Latter-day Saints gotta learn about these things, even if they are not prophetic priorities. I guess they never were, but since 1987 it seems they have gone from the "back burner' to the trash bucket.

Everyone forgets that there must be a great falling away first, before the redemption will come and the return of our Lord. Though I do not rejoice in the current wickedness that rivals Noah's day, yet shall the Lord come and recompense those who remain, and wait upon Adonai (the Lord).

If you were to make an effort to show forth your petunia flowers and shine and try and influence others to do what it is you desire to do, the onion patch would squeeze you out as the onion patch is completely integrated with those secret combinations and "the powers that be" .

Joseph Smith:
At this time [May 1837] the spirit of speculation in lands and property of all kinds, which was so prevalent throughout the whole nation, was taking deep root in the Church. As the fruits of this spirit, evil surmisings, fault-finding, disunion, dissension, and apostasy followed in quick succession, and it seemed as though all the powers of earth and hell were combining their influence in an especial manner to overthrow the Church at once, and make a final end. Other banking institutions refused the "Kirtland Safety Society's" notes. The enemy abroad, and apostates in our midst, united in their schemes, flour and provisions were turned towards other markets, and many became disaffected toward me as though I were the sole cause of those very evils I was most strenuously striving against, and which were actually brought upon us by the brethren not giving heed to my counsel.

No quorum in the Church was entirely exempt from the influence of those false spirits who are striving against me for the mastery; even some of the Twelve were so far lost to their high and responsible calling, as to begin to take sides, secretly, with the enemy. (History of the Church, 2:487-488)

If the above happened in Joseph's day inspite of the light they were receiving what is to happen in ours?

15 Behold, I say unto you, the redemption of Zion must needs come by power;
16 Therefore, I will raise up unto my people a man, who shall lead them like as Moses led the children of Israel.
17 For ye are the children of Israel, and of the seed of Abraham, and ye must needs be led out of bondage by power, and with a stretched-out arm.
18 And as your fathers were led at the first, even so shall the redemption of Zion be.
19 Therefore, let not your hearts faint, for I say not unto you as I said unto your fathers: Mine angel shall go up before you, but not my presence.
20 But I say unto you: Mine angels shall go up before you, and also my presence, and in time ye shall possess the goodly land.

"Must needs come by power and with a stretched out arm"
So it seems that to get out from under all these "secret combinations" that someone on whom is laid much power, ( power to withstand the existing evil controlling powers that be) has to come to deliver us from bondage. "As our fathers were led at the first"

A friend of mine took me to her single's ward and there was a session where boys and girls were divided to converse among themselves readings from church leaders. They would review one chapter from one of the LDS "Teachings of the Presidents of the Church" series. Its fifteen books, each book with selected quotes from one Church President. The month I went for two weeks, the selected book was Benson. My friend (in an attempt to get me to want to be in the church) asked the Bishop to let me keep a copy.

This 2015 published book is, I think, boring. Practically every single page is about lessons in raising a family and being loyal in marriage and being loyal to the church. There is stuff in there about the eternal heaven but it's presented as an extension of how one lives among their earthly family. I know that the concept of the eternal family is an important stone in the Mormon religion. But these books are not fit to teach family rearing. It presses a perfectionist vision of raising a mormon family, while stressing loyalty to the church, without addressing practical scenarios of today's culture, such as kids facing peer pressure. Or, how a parent can explain why criminals do bad things when the kid sees sad stories on the news.

All the books in this fifteen book series are carbon copies of each other as far as I'm concerned. And I think the church millennials are disenfranchised with what they're getting and based on the dissatisfaction of some of the young people I witnessed in that ward, I believe the church will dwindle.

The 2015 "Teachings of the Presidents of the Church" was a disappointment to me and do many of my friends and associates as well, who were hoping it would seriously address the doctrinal imperative that Latter-day Saints have to learn, uphold and abide by the principles of the US Constitution "in the tradition of the Founding Fathers" or "as it was meant to be understood" by those who established it. As for reviving the warnings of President Benson Re. secret combinations gaining control of our wealth and our government, I believe the Church has come under pressure to "muzzle" that topic, lest it incur retribution from that secret combinations which is now in position to seriously hinder the main missions of the Church, and would not hesitate to do so.

Which goes to show that the Constitution is no longer a priority in a worldwide sense of the Church. The Church exists outside of America too.

The Constitution will continue to be important in the American Church (see: Elder Christofferson's recent talk on the matter at the Freedom Festival), but not so much worldwide as opinion becomes increasingly anti-American for the actions of Donald Trump.

Not to mention that there are many chairos (Spanish word for radical leftists used by libertarians and the right) that are members of the Church.

Freedom/Liberty plays a vital role in the Gospel of Jesus Christ. They are integral to individual eternal progression. Each person must be given the opportunity to choose whether he/she will follow Christ or reject Him. This decision is most effectively made in a political system that allows freedom of conscience. Without the freedom/liberty to make choices and live according to the dictates of one's conscience, personal progression will be blocked.

II have lived and worked 12 years in other countries, 11 of those years in European countries. Europeans do not have the freedom/liberty to make choices and live according to the dictates of their conscience to the extent that Americans still do. And I know European Mormons who recognize and agree with that.

Well thanks. I will not convert to Mormonism. I went to my friend's singles' ward about five times and it isn't a church I would attach to. The new testament was quoted once if ever. The Book of Mormon was talked about and referenced a few times but it was barely present in sermons. Sermons don't mention Jesus, nor do they stress individual relationship with God. Nor the prospect of being born again. Every sermon had a message about constant prayer so the Lord will give you the strength to bring a family into the world and have that family live by the rules of the church organization.

I don't go to church to be told in sermons about having children every sunday. I go to a different church that I feel I can better worship in.

It kinda seems like they abandoned caring about the Constitution, civic duty, abortion and Jesus when they realized that kids are becoming increasingly apathetic to religion in today's culture and moving to the Left, so the only way to ensure there's future tithe payers is to stress that members get married very soon, right out of high school if they can, and make babies. Hopefully, they'll have so many babies that one or two doesn't come out of public school a leftist atheist and tithes as an adult. Famously, Dalin Oaks said in a speech at BYU in 2005 young adults had to stop hanging out with each other and start going on dates. Needless to say, my mormon friend whom I had considered a friend had believed we were dating every time we were hanging out in any way. So we don't talk anymore.

And almost every member there was the only child of a large family to not be hostile to the idea of religion. My friend's siblings were all dirtbags by the way. The church could try to deal with the problem of rising amorality and apratriotism with denouncing the schools and media. Instead they make sure they dont lose the entire next generation by making every sermon about having kids, and then stressing something like this as a fun activity to four year olds.

And I feel safe saying this here because from what I've seen it seems like a lot of people on this site are dissatisfied with the church's silence on the constitution, and any political issue other than their support for refugees.

Cool beans. Like I said, your straight-forward approach is refreshing to me. You can voice your opinion without being anti-Mormon.

But, oh, by the way, have you tried reading the Book of Mormon? With a prayer in your heart as you do so?

By the way #2: Do you pay tithing at the church you now attend?

I have read some of the book of Alma and 2 Nephi. Also, a lot of these threads on this site have versed me with the contents of the Book of Mormon.

Also, I am not paying tithing. I am unemployed. I am in university now and hope to get some kind of entry-level position as soon as possible. It's hard for me to find a job while in school and also I have little employment history. A sort of lack of trying on my part along with some bad communication skills has kept me from getting any steady employment so Ive been reliant on my parents for a few years. I have my mom review a resume every once in a while and have been spending several hours every day looking for a job. Mostly, I really want one just so I have cash to spend, I have a good work ethic.

OK, keep the faith as you look. You're smart enough that even an entry-level position should parlay into something better. Blessings on you to find the best thing.

I promise you that the Book of Mormon is true. There is no way that Joseph or any of his contemporaries could have written it. (Do you know about chiasmus in the Book of Mormon?) The amazing thing is the Lord challenges us to test its truthfulness just like he asks us to test him over tithing. (Compare Moroni 10:3-5 and Malachi 3). You don't find many occurrences in holy writ like those whereby we can test God's willingness to bless us.
