Obama and Romney Agree on Secret Kill Lists, Drone Strikes

Vote Obama For Unaccountable Drone Warfare. Vote Romney For Unaccountable Drone Warfare.

Both candidates agree, secret kill lists and unaccountable CIA ‘double tap’ drone strikes are necessary

Last night’s debate highlighted the fact that Barack Obama and Mitt Romney are in full agreement with each other that secret unmanned US missile strikes, documented to have killed thousands of innocent people, are “necessary” and “right “.

When Romney was asked about the US policy of drone strikes in Pakistan and elsewhere, he responded:

“Well, I believe that we should use any and all means necessary to take out people who pose a threat to us and our friends around the world. And it’s widely reported that drones are being used in drone strikes, and I support that entirely and feel the president was right to up the usage of that technology, and believe that we should continue to use it, to continue to go after the people who represent a threat to this nation and to our friends.”

Indeed, perhaps the only difference you’ll get with Romney is that he’ll use even more drones…

“But let me also note that, as I said earlier, we’re going to have to do more than just going after leaders and — and killing bad guys, important as that is.”

Conor Friedersdorf at the Atlantic today poses the question ‘What If Mitt Romney Inherits Obama’s Killer Drone Fleet?’ and presents facts that confirm both candidates have shown that they would continue unscrupulous operation of death from above.

“Obama has implemented a global killing program with zero checks and balances;” Friedersdorf notes.

“…he’s operated it out of the CIA rather than the Department of Defense; he invokes the state-secrets privilege to avoid defending it in court, even as he brags about its efficacy; it includes killing people whose identities we don’t even know; all military-aged males we kill are presumed to be “militants”; the Pakistani government reportedly gets to pick some of the targets; at minimum, hundreds of innocents have been killed, including rescuers and funeral-goers…”

And Mitt Romney “supports that entirely.”

Friedersdorf adds that “…if Romney’s drone policy turns out to have all sorts of catastrophic consequences” it should be remembered that Obama “established the bipartisan consensus behind a worldwide drone-strike strategy and set all the necessary precedents.”

So there you have it, a vote for Obama OR Romney is a vote for unaccountable secret warfare and the traumatization and murder of innocent people.

Do you need to know what else BOTH these candidates are in agreement about?
