Spence, Mike Lee is Bennett wanna be.

Brian, no disagreement with you.
And I mean that in the nicest possible way. Insert tact here.

I have a bit of mistrust of Lee, but I think saying he is a Bennett wannabe is going a bit far.

I have personally leaned towards Bridgewater for a long time, but have heard some disturbing things that he likes to funnel gov't money to businesses - not sure how legit those rumors are. I also like the fact that Gordon Jones prefers Bridgewater and my father also did before he passed away, and Dad was always pretty savvy about finding out what kind of person they were, and he seemed to trust Bridgewater after meeting with him. I came to support Bridgewater independently, but it was a second testimony to me that Dad agreed. And also Gordon Jones I respect his political opinions immensely.

Connor Boyack supports Mike Lee though, adn I really respect him too. That is what makes me think that Lee is NOT Bennett-lite. My opinion only though. Do your best research and make up your own mind.

The person that I really did NOT want to see replace Bennett dropped out, that would be Mark Shurtleff - that is Bennett-lite in my book!

I really think Eagar is a good person and well intentioned. I just think that with the best of intentions she would be quite willing to overstep the bounds of her office. Of ALL of the current candidates, she scares me the most in this regard. (Important to note that as I began to research the candidates Cherilyn was my top preference.)

I might very well end up voting for Scott Bradley (constitution party senate candidate) when election time comes around (principles over politics)...

but when it comes to the Republican Party candidate question... for sure Bennett needs to go...

and to replace him... Lee, Bridgewater, Cook? While none of them comes out as someone I completely trust and would put all my support behind, I don't have reason, at this point, to like one of them above the other. Eagar, on the other hand, has already proven to me (as pointed out earlier in this thread) that she would not uphold her Oath of Office.

Considering the strong support that Mike Lee already has I would encourage Republican State delegates to join together in supporting him, to ensure Bennett loses at the Convention.

I'm with you when it comes to Novemenr I likely will be coting for Bradley as well.

Correction, though - there is no reason for delegates to get behind one challenger. The voting process at convention means that everyone who wants Bennett out just has to agree to NOT switch to Bennett if their first choice candidate gets eliminated. It is a strategy that Independence Caucus has been pushing for months and it seems that a good number of delegates that support Lee, Bridgewater and Eagar are on board. I predict Eagar is the first to go, then Bridgewater, and then I expect that Lee will get the 60% needed to win the nomination at convention (no primary!)

If it goes to a primary, I fear that Bennett, his money, and Mitt Romney's endorsement will carry the day. Bennett is just trying to survive convention at this point.

The only problem with that, which I experienced at the 2008 state convention, is that by the third round of voting over half of the delegates have gone home...

Well that is just poor selection of delegates then. I agree it is a problem and I have heard about it. Based on the turnout to precinct meetings and the heightened awareness on this I hope and expect it won't be a problem. Although I am sure TPTB in the Utah GOP leadership will do all in their power to get their man thru. And it is disheartening that in most cases, Bennett just needs to survive convention to likely win though.

It may be a different ball game this year as it seemed like the precinct meeting I attended and most that I heard about were "tar and feather Bennett" meetings. And I know a lot of folks that did not even attend that are quite anti-Bennett.

Like everything else, I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

That is kind of why I was wary of him when I first got home and went to his website. Then, his statements on the war came out through the Bennett attacks. In that back of my mind though I questioned if Bennett sees the end and is using the attacks to touch on a matter that most Americans oppose, the war on Terror, and in turn actually help Mike Lee rather than hurt him.

I literally laughed at the Bennett commercial, because the majority of the public isn't that stupid anymore to believe that opposing the war in Afghanistan is as he put it, "dangerous".

So I don't know.

My wife went to a local meeting with Bridgewater in our town. He was doing his best to tell all the old people in attendance that he was supportive of all of the socialist welfare programs that they liked and used. That disturbed me.

Lol, perhaps when you my age you won't be as disturbed!
