Re: Goodbye LDSFF from Bella? Just burnt out from Contention
I think this is hilarious. Lets get this in perspective. This is just another discussion forum for people to exchange ideas and opinions. Ok so its called LDS Freedom Forum because the owner of the site is LDS and believes in the Constitution/Freedom etc.
Reality Check: This is not the LDS Church. It hasn't got anything to do with the LDS church. We're just a bunch of anonymous, faceless, individuals who can spout off on stuff they wouldn't get off with in Sunday School class or sacrament meeting or anywhere in public for that matter.
The impression I get is that Shawn C and Threepercentite are just a couple of power mad crazies who wouldn't know a real apostate if they jumped on them from the top of the Church Office Building! But thats just my opinion. In reality its worth nothing. The same as their opinion is worth nothing.
So they can ban me from the site for saying that I think that people have misunderstood Elder Nelson's comments or that his choice of words have lead people to believe something which is incorrect. I believe that God does love people unconditionally. At the same time I agree with Elder Nelson that 'technically' you can't class God's love as totally unconditional because there are aspects of it such as forgiveness, judgement, rewards etc. that are conditional upon our repentance and behaviour.
But that according to Shawn C makes me an apostate and means that I speak evil of Apostles.
I quote comments made by the President of the MTC in Provo at the weekly devotional but that makes me an apostate.
How can I take this seriously? Am I meant to take it seriously?
I got banned for a week. Oh no. What am I going to do? I'll probably get banned for a year now or maybe a decade. Does it matter?
If Bella or anyone else is taking this site so seriously that they're losing sleep or threatening to jump off the bridge then its probably the best thing to do to leave it alone or go off and cool off for a while.
Its fun, its informative, and I enjoy the comments and exchanges...but lets keep it real. Its just a website where you can leave comments. Thats all!

Re: Goodbye LDSFF from Bella? Just burnt out from Contention
I know this probably belongs on another thread, but regarding the "unconditional love" you mentioned above and I guess there's an "issue" with what you have posted...I didn't see that. Anyway, I believe Heavenly Father's love IS unconditional. That's a given. What isn't unconditional is his response to us in the form of blessings, etc....those things ARE conditional. And, in my opinion, because he has that unconditional love, he is bound by his own "rules", so to speak...and becomes the greatest parent of all...he follows through with his conditions. THAT is love in the highest form. He knows what we need.LukeAir2008 wrote:I think this is hilarious. Lets get this in perspective. (Last evening I was told "you cannot make another post so soon after your last". Anyone else had that happen?)
Maybe there should be some kind of forewarning before deleting posts which are not overtly inappropriate.
Some of Insider's posts were downright evil. He seemed to say just about whatever he felt like saying. I never quite understood that.

All the time, even when I haven't made a post! The board has been flakey lately, so I take it as par for course. The quote button doesn't seem to work either (won't post), have to post reply instead.bg wrote:(Last evening I was told "you cannot make another post so soon after your last". And LukeAir, you are an apostate!
Takes one to know one.
I took the same position (phrased a different way) on the unconditional love thread, yet I wasn't banned. Interesting.

A couple lessons from the thread as my seven year old would interpret it:
1. Don't be such a meanie.
2. Don't be such a baby.
and something extra from me:
3. Don't send anyone a PM either serious or in jest that you wouldn't want posted directly to the forum.
*For those I've sent messages to, the bribe money will wire directly into your account later today.

Yes - it was happening to me for about 3 hours straight a few days ago and I hadn't even been making posts. I now think it was a glitch but at the time I wondered if my contributions were being limited because I wasn't agreeing with the board favorites. On another forum I read, someone wrote that this was a form of controlling trolls that can be implemented to avoid outright banning - limiting the number of posts per day.buffalo_girl wrote:(Last evening I was told "you cannot make another post so soon after your last". If that is something that's possible I've never heard of it. For the record, I am a moderator and I can't seem to get the site to remember me, sometimes it forgets me in the middle of a session, sometimes I submit a post and it vanishes into oblivion... so I think it's just something whacked out on the site.MercynGrace wrote:Yes - it was happening to me for about 3 hours straight a few days ago and I hadn't even been making posts. Re: Goodbye LDSFF from Bella? Just burnt out from Contention
I can't remember where I read about it or I'd post a link to the discussion. The gist of the conversation was that there were various ways to impose limits on out-of-control posters or trolls. Those discussing the topic said that people could be limited to viewing (not able to post), limited to posting a certain number of times per day, outright banned (username or ISP), or temporarily suspended.ChelC wrote:MercynGrace wrote: If that is something that's possible I've never heard of it. My guess is that it depends on the software being used for the site.

Re: Goodbye LDSFF from Bella? Just burnt out from Contention
I think Luke makes a valid point here. Can we realistically expect "LDS standards" if we don't all agree on what they are? We don't represent the church here, and while we can make forum rules of civility, the apostate question is highly subjective, and none of us are called to interpret that. SOME of them are pretty obvious though, and I don't have a problem kicking off anti chumps who tick me off!Reality Check: This is not the LDS Church. It hasn't got anything to do with the LDS church. We're just a bunch of anonymous, faceless, individuals who can spout off on stuff they wouldn't get off with in Sunday School class or sacrament meeting or anywhere in public for that matter.

or...if you are offended by a certain individual, topic or post (not overtly obscene or anti-Mormon) simply "don't look!". Let the moderators decide what's appropriate according to their agreed upon standard. If they aren't in agreement, then maybe they need to discuss it together prior to giving one person the sole power to jettison a post. Those discussing the topic said that people could be limited to viewing (not able to post), limited to posting a certain number of times per day, outright banned (username or ISP), or temporarily suspended.
I've said this before: "When no one posts on a thread, that thread disappears off the front page."
This uncontrollable impulse "to look in order to be sure it's a righteous post" is kind of ridiculous, isn't it?
The Mandan Indians were an agricultural people. They stayed in villages of earth lodges surrounding a central commons. Right in the middle of that commons stood a very high pole upon which an effigy of a Great Spirit was affixed. The belief was that if a person actually looked up at that effigy he would die within a short time.
Imagine those 'bad' posts or threads as effigies. Just don't look!

Thanks, I don't know how to use it.
Of course, I've never felt the need to use it either.

LOL! I feel the same way Buffalo Girl - no one is forcing you to read I've never put anyone on "ignore" or added anyone as an "enemy". I'm fully capable of ignoring people without technological assistance. That's how I see it now. I had another opinionIts fun, its informative, and I enjoy the comments and
exchanges...but lets keep it real. Its just a website
where you can leave comments. Thats all!
when I first came here but that has changed.
If I'm looking for deep spiritual insights on
which I can meditate without interference,
I'll go elsewhere.
If I'm looking for deep insights on ANYTHING
(political, financial, social, etc.) I'll also likely
go elsewhere.
But I must say: This site really puts out some
interesting teasers! And for the most part it IS
a fun and informative place to visit and leave
comments. So that's what I'll continue to do
when time permits.
I love you all!
