Here's an email I created to be sent to all email petitions I receive. I sent it out today in response to the latest petition I received. Do you think it is too serious? Did it get my point across?

Before you sign and pass on another electronic petition, answer a couple of questions for me.

1st. Was this petition started six days ago or six years ago? These petitions float around the net for years and usually have nothing to do with current events.

2nd. Is there a way to verify if the signatures listed are real people? Did my 15 year old make up 985 names or just the last five on this petition? I found my name added to one because a friend was sure I'd want my name added.

3rd. Who would base any decision or future activity on an unverifiable electronically generated petition?

4th. Who will spend the rest of their life merging the lists? Who is going to merge 100,000,000,000 (that's billions) separate lists to eliminate the duplicate names? 5 million of the lists will have the same first 416 names. All 100 billion would have the same first name.

The list sent here went to 22 other people. (BTW, thank you for providing me their names and email addresses to me for the beginning of my SPAM project.) If they each signed it and passed it on we'd have 22 new lists going around, all with the same first 416 names on the list.

If each of them forward it on to 22 new people, we have 484 lists floating around, all with the same first 416 names on the list.

One more time makes 10,000 lists, all with the same 416 names.

One more time and we have 250,000 lists.

One more time and we have 5,000,000 lists.

Now assuming this feel good exercise called for us to pass them on to the Whitehouse when the list gets to 422, instead of 1,000 "signatures", the Whitehouse is going to receive 5,000,000 that's right, 5 million emails, all that were generated from me on, all that had the same first 416 names.

I'm sure that the white house email software is efficient enough to auto delete anything that has a list of names attached. My software is. This one slipped through because it was from someone I respected enough to check out everything they send me. Hmmm, maybe I better reset my software.

I suggest finding the real issues and doing something positive to effect some real change. I also suggest that we stop passing on useless emails that make us feel like we've done something. It may take getting up from the computer and talking, in person, to our neighbor, but it might actually effect a real change for the better.

And by-the-way, learn to use "Blind-Carbon-Copy" on your forwarded emails so that everyone you send it to doesn't have everyone else's email address. They might get a whim and pass this particular email onto everyone on your forward list. You will see that my reply was done in BBC Blind Carbon Copy so you don't know who I sent this response to, but I may have sent it to every address you provided me. The list of names and addresses below was sent to me with the petition.

If you received this email it is because someone is passing around your actual email address, along with this petition. In just 5 or 6 generations your email address can be passed onto 5,000,000 computers. How many of them have a virus to add your email address to their SPAM list?

I value the net as a way to pass on valuable information, but rest assured that any future electronic petitions that I receive will receive this auto generated response, as will all addresses openly attached to the petition.

Each time you see "Email Address remove to post on Forum" I just used the [Reply to all] function on my email to send the same copy to everyone on the list. I figured if they were offended they could reply to me and say so.

I always delete these types of e-mail's anyway, but that is interesting, I never sat and thought about it. If you want to do a petition, it really needs to be hand written, and actually petitions are rarely worth anything anyhow.

If the White house actually got 1000 hand written letters about something that might get a different response, but really people need to get on their congressmen about these issues.

I think your response is harsh, but sometimes harsh is necessary. Pitchfire and I were recently discussing how bold the early prophets were, they told it like it was without apology. Maybe your e-mail will cause a few folks to stop and think.

How many people repeat the "freedom isn't free" phrase, but then do nothing to ensure their freedoms? Freedom isn't free but George's kid over in Iraq will pay the price for about 56 people, I'm one of those so I'll get back to watching Survivor...

I think you got a good idea, ChelC, but I think that if the White house got 1000 hand written letters about something it wouldn't matter a hoot. But getting on our congressmens' back with letters about these issues might get results, depending on the congessman. Somehow, I don't think our well known LDS congressmen would defy their globalist pals.
