LDSFF Singles Support Group

Postby moonwhim » Sun Aug 28, 2011 3:08 pm

As a divorced/single LDS member I thought I would start a topic for singles on this site.

I think we as singles experience a different view of the Church than when married, we even experience being treated differently......so I was thinking that we could support each other in dealing with being single. I don't think married people in the Church ever really understand the challenges of becoming single again until they experience being divorced or widowed.

Another reason is to find a mate! Yes, a lonely hearts club! From my point of view, I have been single for awhile and have dated women hoping to find someone that is compatible. I want someone that is active in Church and has a testimony. I want someone who understands or is open to understanding the things that we learn on this website. They don't have to be into it as much as I am but I would hope they would support me in my efforts to awake others. Plus, I want to be attracted to that person in whatever ways that means. Maybe this forum could help find a match......I have been to plenty of LDS singles functions......it is not as easy as you would think to match up with someone.....especially after having been divorced, and having to face issues, blended families, Ex's, etc.

So, are others on this forum willing to admit they are single? I remember a funny scene from the "Seinfeld" tv show when Elaine complains that she can't get a date to take her to a wedding and so she will "have to set at the singles table with a bunch of losers!"

Maybe we can use this topic to set up get-togethers for singles on this forum.

We could share books, articles, scriptures.

And Brian if you have any comments, or rules, or don't even want this topic then please advise.

Anyway, "singles" please leave comments and we will see where this can go.

I changed the subject name to LDSFF Singles Support Group, somebody told me that "lonely hearts club" was too mushy.

I will admit that I am single. There are definitely different challenges to being single in the church. I have never been married and I have found that the responses change the older you get. ;) They go from "get out there a find the one" when you are just out of high school to "don't worry, you still have time" when you are approaching 30 to "he is waiting for you in heaven, he was just killed in such and such way" or "you can adopt, you don't need a husband to do that" as you get older. :))

I agree that a place is needed for LDS AWAKE SINGLES to discuss issues and struggles that others may not relate to. And of course if the thread results in helping match people up, then what a blessing that would be! (Can't wait to see the "LDSFF Marriage Proposals" thread..... :D )

In all seriousness, thanks again for creating this!

Jules :)

Hi Jules
Well, it is nice to know that there are singles on this forum other than me!
Hope this can provide some type of inspiration to us singles!
Feel free to be creative and contribute what you think will be relevant and helpful.

It is one thing to try and find singles with LDS values and standards, but yet another to try and find one that shares similar views and is actually "awake" to the fact that not "All is well in Zion" and that many know not the "hearts" of men in their own land, when the have misconceptions about secret combinations and believe it is all about a foreign power or"terrorists" etc.

Look fwd to following the discussion with other singles that are awake :-)

Sounds like a good idea to have discussions specifically for LDSFF singles... Some have even suggested a dedicated area for just that. I can see the need for such a thing, and am exploring some ideas.

moonwhim wrote:Maybe we can use this topic to set up get-togethers for singles on this forum..

LDSFF singles should start by coming to the bi-monthly gatherings we've already been having, attendance is sparse enough already. And some of the singles are already coming to those anyways.
All my opinions are tentative pending further data...

I dated a woman who I thought was my type until I brought up secret combinations, at which point she said that I was too negative about things and I should be more positive. I told her that as a man I felt the need to warn and protect others from the hell that is coming.....that I was trying to live up to the commandment of Moroni in Ether 8. Well, things didn't work out after that, she wanted "sugar and spice and everything nice" but did not want to face reality. Hey, I can have fun every day but I still have to face the reality of what's coming too! So let's be happy as we worship the Lord and share that testimony with others, and also fight evil!

Sadly, my ex-wife is one of the few who are awake...

I always think of D&C 123:17 when I think of what true optimism is.
http://lds.org/scriptures/dc-testament/ ... ang=eng#10

Most people think just knowing half truths is how you have a glass that is always half full.

This is the meaning of D&C 123:17...

Where do I find those ex's that are awake?

Isn't if more exciting to just guess the others' demographics? Any LDSFF Singles get togethers would be very interesting if we all resembled our avatars! :))

I don't know which is seen with more sympathy in the church, being single and never married (too bad, you are so pretty and you have such a GREAT personality) or being divorced (at least you were married). =)) In my family, we have seen both sides as me and one of my sisters are still single and another is divorced.

I am glad there are other single people that are awake. I can hardly talk to many in my family about it and even the ones that are somewhat awake think I am a little crazy. I can just imagine what would happen if I tried to speak with a potential mate who was asleep. :-o
