Want To Hear CBS Radio Mystery Theater?

Post by freedomforall »

Who liked it?
Who didn't?
Who would like to acquire them?
Who has good resources for them?
How many programs aired? Not counting reruns.

Every once in a while I like to switch gears. Some topics become terrestrial.

I remember while working afternoon shift in Murray UT in the mid seventies, each night we would turn on the radio and listen to one of these programs. They really helped in getting through the shift. But because we were subject for transfer to other locations this only lasted a few weeks.

Nobody responded. Come on folks! I thought these are rather interesting, and could be something to fall back on when TV gets so bad we can't turn it on, which I think is pretty near anyway.

Who likes listening to or watching...
Jack Benny
Johnny Ringo
Topper
Bat Masterson
Amos N' Andy
The Millionaire
Richard Diamond, Private Detective
Boston Blackie
Highway Patrol
The Whistler
Journey To The Unknown
The Shadow
One Step Beyond
Science Fiction Theater
Resurrected Radio
...and many more?

I vaguely remember The Shadow when I was a kid, I also remember a bit of Wolfman Jack too.
I thought Science Fiction Theater was one of those thematic Saturday afternoon TV movies though. :)

Here are a few samples of the shows one could tune in on. http://www.mysteryshows.com/CBS-Radio-M ... o_kill.mp3" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Wolfman Jack was with KOMA in Oklahoma, and other places I suppose.

Science Fiction Theater can be purchased here as well as many, many other programs.

I'm in my 30's so I don't really know (or watched/listened to) most of the programs you've listed, FF.

However, I looove classic movies! TCM is frequently on (much to my husband's dismay :)) ) and some of my favorite actors/actresses are William Powell, Gene Kelly, James Dean, Jean Arthur, Marlene Dietrich, Barbara Stanwyck, Bette Davis, Jean Harlow, Esther Williams, Jennifer Jones, June Allyson, Marilyn Monroe, Betty Grable, and Jane Russell (who was LDS)...just to name a few, haha

edited to add: Howard Keel, Lana Turner, and Olivia de Havilland

These and many more actors are from and before my time as well. There is an actress named Lorraine Day (real name, Lorraine Johnson) of whom made many films earlier in her life. My wife and I saw her in the LA Temple in the mid nineties; she was a Matron there. She has since passed on.

Anyway, I brought up this topic because TV, movies and even some commercials are getting way too rank. For those who would like to just sit back and listen to some of these old programs and use their imaginations instead of being fed explicit, visual stimulus this is the way to go. There are 1399 programs of CBSRMT and countless other mystery, comedy, adventure, slap-stick and corny programs that can provide nightly entertainment.

CBSRMT episode guide: http://www.cbsrmt.com/synopsis.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Click on the program you want to hear, and then go down closer to the bottom and find a little play button. Wa la!

Enjoy!

No!, I don't get any kickbacks. I don't even know the man. I did, however, come across this website and thought there may be those that wonder about some of their favorite shows from yesteryear and how to acquire them.

Just looked up Laraine Day...what an interesting life she had!

Yes, I totally agree! Many TV programs, movies, and some commercials are too vulgar, nasty, crass...the list goes on. That's why I prefer watching classic movies (not that there aren't some questionable ones, but they're usually minimal), some National Geographic, some Biography, some History Channel, HGTV (home shows), The Cooking Channel and Food Network...and of course, BYUtv.

Thanks for pointing the way to another good choice for classic entertainment :)

When TV gets too rank to watch, these might come in handy.

Doesn't anyone like listening to drama without having to see gore and such? Doesn't anyone remember these? How many of you remember EG Marshall?

I suppose a lot of people do not like radio suspense. Back in the day it was a big thing.

Not a big radio person myself, I only really listen when I'm driving around and at those times I almost always have the classical station on. My husband usually listens to a meditation CD...which I'm not sure is a good idea when he's behind the wheel, lol.

Wow, what a goldmine! I like it because: I need to practice listening, I can do stuff at the same time (like type), great writing and voice, etc.

Start with comedies? ;)
