Sorry O_I...K. I've been MIA...probably stay that way since life is crazy busy trying to navigate through the darkness and mediate or correct health deficiencies. Pretty much my primary focus with myself, wife, and children going through challenges which I am increasingly coming to believe can only be addressed through growing our own food supply - plant & animal. And that requires much time, energy, and resources...and increasingly difficult to navigate...

In the case of COVID19, the story is not about the numbers of cases or fatalities at any given point after two months and change, it’s about the disruption it will cause. We have a highly contagious virus that can cause death. That is all you need to know really. Feel free to claim that reactions and measures are over the hill, but no government has the option to say things are not all that bad and it’s business as usual.

They all tried again though. It’s in their job description. One of their tasks is to prevent panic, and yes, they use that to hide their ignorance behind, but they still must do it. But that’s alright, because all halfway smart people know what to do when a politician says not to panic.

However, they will still quarantine you and close borders, no matter what you think. Politicians are dead set to react too late, and then when they do, to order measures that are over the top and at best partly effective. But it’s not them, it’s the model they function within.

And people comparing COVID 19 to seasonal flu are therefore way off base. It’s not apples and oranges, it’s apples and baseballs -if not baseball bats-. Both are round but they have little else in common. The seasonal flu has been around since at least 1899, when the first epidemic was reported, what ever that meant back then.

The COVID19 virus is, far as we know, 3 months and change old. So any numbers you can toss around, of so many people killed by one and not the other, are pretty much meaningless. They are completely different entities that just happen to perhaps look alike if you don’t look to close. You can bring up the comparison, but you don’t say a thing about COVID19 if you do.

There are more interesting things to say about COVID 19. Unlike seasonal flu (largely), this one is not standing still. That means it will take 12-18 months to develop a vaccine, while any given year’s vaccine vs that year’s “normal” flu takes a few weeks. That difference may not say it all, but it comes close.

The most striking characteristic of the virus may be, if not should be, its exponential (or quadratic, if you will) progress once it gets hold. Ben Hunt tweeted earlier today, in reaction to Rome shutting down a quarter of the entire country, that “Italy is a time machine that shows us our future. Why do we ignore it?” But it’s not just Italy. It’s a pattern, it’s a dynamic, it’s motion. All things that regular flu is not.

And here’s what that dynamic looks like:

First, South Korea till March 4. when it had 5,621 cases. Today it has 7,313. But it is suspicious; they have very few deaths AND very few recovered cases. Well over 90% of cases are unresolved, way more than in other countries. It also has by far the largest numbers infected per million people.

Italy till March 4. when it had 3,089 cases. Today it has 7,375. 1,492 new cases today, and 133 new deaths (366 total). Ouch. 25% more cases, 57% more deaths.

China may have leveled off a little (who knows, really?), but the rest of the world is just getting started.

Meanwhile of course you can theorize about the possibility that this is a bioweapon, but first of all that doesn’t help any patients right now, and second it’s only interesting if you can find out whether it was made on purpose or by accident, released by accident or on purpose, and was it the Chinese, the Americans, the Russians, the British, or someone else, why did they do it, why does it target which group, etc etc.

This thing plays out today, not in an imaginary future where you may have found out the who what and why. In the meantime, people are dying.

If you look at the graphs for Italy and South Korea above, you can see your future. Not in a precise way, but certainly in a general one. You can see ahead. Time machine.

In an outbreak of an infectious disease it is important to not only know the number of cases, but also the rate at which the number of cases is changing.

A helpful metric to measure the rate of change is the doubling time.

This is the time it took for the number of cases to double. If the number of cases is 100 today and it was 50 three days ago then the doubling time is 3 days.

The doubling time in a disease outbreak is not constant and for the outbreak of COVID-19 it has changed in recent weeks and will continue to change with time.Based on the global WHO data up to and including 7th March 2020, the doubling time for COVID-19 is as follows:
Doubling time for the global number of cases (including China): 21 days
Doubling time for the global number of cases (excluding China): 4 days

The fact that the doubling time is longer when China is included is due to the fact that the number of daily cases has declined after the lockdown in China.

Under exponential growth 500 cases grow to more than 1 million cases after 11 doubling times.
And after 10 more doubling times it would be 1 billion cases.

This is in no way a prediction for the number of cases we need to expect; it is simply a reminder that exponential growth leads to very large numbers very quickly even when starting from a low base.

In epidemiology, the basic reproduction number is abbreviated as R0 (pronounced like “R naught”). R0 is the number which describes numerically how an epidemic is expanding or contracting. Grossly oversimplifying, R0 is the number of people each infected person subsequently infects. When an R0=1, there is one additional case per each identified case and the outbreak is staying steady. If the R0 is >1, the outbreak is expanding. An R0 of <1 indicates that the outbreak is declining (CDC) .

There are many factors which can affect the R0. Not every patient will infect the same number of new individuals, thus the R0 is an average across all cases.

Do we know the R0 for the 2019-NCoV?

Simply put, no. Although Dr. Tony Fauci, director of the NIH National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), remarked that preliminary reports indicate an R0 ranging from 1.5 to 3.5 (HHS.gov), the R0 is unknown for the 2019 novel coronavirus. Current estimates are based on reported cases and it’s possible that there are more cases than have been confirmed. Additionally, with some infections there can be mild illness or asymptomatic. These are often missed early in epidemics and lead to underestimating the R0.

Furthermore, in a recently released manuscript that has not yet been peer-reviewed, the R0 is estimated using two calculation methods. Both methods yielded an R0=2.9 with the lower end of both 95 percent confidence intervals at 2.3. Additionally, they report an average incubation period of 4.8 days (J. H. Tao Liu). For comparison, the R0 of SARS in 2003 was calculated at approximately 1.8 in the early stages of the outbreak, eventually ranging between 1.1-4.2depending on which calculation method was used (Bauch). And, as was mentioned above, the R0 can vary widely depending on many factors. For example, the R0 estimates of some common and historic diseases are:

Let’s talk math.

Let’s conservatively assume that there are 2,000 current cases in the US today, March 6th. This is about 8x the number of confirmed (lab-diagnosed) cases. We know there is substantial under-Dx due to lack of test kits;

We can expect that we’ll continue to see a doubling of cases every 6 days (this is a typical doubling time across several epidemiological studies). Here I mean *actual* cases. Confirmed cases may appear to rise faster in the short term due to new test kit rollouts.

We’re looking at about 1M US cases by the end of April, 2M by ~May 5, 4M by ~May 11, and so on. Exponentials are hard to grasp, but this is how they go.

As the healthcare system begins to saturate under this case load, it will become increasingly hard to detect, track, and contain new transmission chains. In absence of extreme interventions, this likely won’t slow significantly until hitting >>1% of susceptible population.

What does a case load of this size mean for healthcare system? We’ll examine just two factors — hospital beds and masks — among many, many other things that will be impacted.

The US has about 2.8 hospital beds per 1000 people. With a population of 330M, this is ~1M beds. At any given time, 65% of those beds are already occupied. That leaves about 330k beds available nationwide (perhaps a bit fewer this time of year with regular flu season, etc).

Let’s trust Italy’s numbers and assume that about 10% of cases are serious enough to require hospitalization. (Keep in mind that for many patients, hospitalization lasts for *weeks* — in other words, turnover will be *very* slow as beds fill with COVID19 patients).
By this estimate, by about May 8th, all open hospital beds in the US will be filled. (This says nothing, of course, about whether these beds are suitable for isolation of patients with a highly infectious virus.)

If we’re wrong by a factor of two regarding the fraction of severe cases, that only changes the timeline of bed saturation by 6 days in either direction. If 20% of cases require hospitalization, we run out of beds by ~May 2nd.

If only 5% of cases require it, we can make it until ~May 14th. 2.5% gets us to May 20th. This, of course, assumes that there is no uptick in demand for beds from *other* (non-COVID19) causes, which seems like a dubious assumption.

10% of Italian cases that tested positive required ICU stay for acute hypoxia respiratory failure, ie, mechanical ventilation. See where the math goes when you calculate not how many hospital beds, but how many ventilators.As healthcare system becomes increasingly burdened, Rx shortages, etc, people w/ chronic conditions that are normally well-managed may find themselves slipping into severe states of medical distress requiring intensive care & hospitalization. But let’s ignore that for now.

I’m an engineer. This is what my mind does all day: I run back-of-the-envelope calculations to try to estimate order-of-magnitude impacts. I’ve been on high alarm about this disease since ~Jan 19 after reading clinical indicators in the first papers emerging from Wuhan.Importantly, I cannot stress this enough: even if I’m wrong – even VERY wrong – about core assumptions like % of severe cases or current case #, it only changes the timeline by days or weeks. This is how exponential growth in an immunologically naïve population works. Undeserved panic does no one any good. But neither does ill-informed complacency. It’s wrong to assuage the public by saying “only 2% will die.” People aren’t adequately grasping the national and global systemic burden wrought by this swift-moving of a disease.

One more thought: you’ve probably seen multiple respected epidemiologists have estimated that 20-70% of world will be infected within the next year. If you use 6-day doubling rate I mentioned above, we land at ~2-6 billion infected by sometime in July of this year.

The fact that China stopped their economy in it's tracks tells you all you need to know. Forget the thousands of mobile crematoriums, and forget the mass graves, and forget they were welding people into their apartment buildings. This thing is the real deal

On Monday, I watched as the number of confirmed cases in the United States crossed the 500 mark, and then on Tuesday I was really shocked to see it jump up to 1,025. In less than 48 hours, the number of confirmed cases more than doubled. Needless to say, we are going to be in a whole lot of trouble if this keeps happening. Of course the U.S. is far from alone.

APHL told me on Wednesday that each public health lab can run about 100 samples per day. One hundred public labs received test kits from the CDC. When they’re all up and running, they’ll have a cumulative capacity of 10,000 samples a day. Remember, since we care about patients and not samples, divide by two. That’s 5,000 patients a day. Researchers measured the inhalation/exhalation resistance and filtration performance of N95 filtering facepiece APRs from ten stockpile facilities with varying storage conditions. After documenting the conditions of the storage facility, the researchers measured the performance of the sample respirators and compared them to control respirators purchased from the open market. The age range of the sampled respirators was 5 to 15 years. Of the 3,971 respirators tested, 3,895 respirators met the performance standards, a ninety-eight percent pass rate. All but one of the remaining facilities that did not experience a 100% pass rate were cited as having inadequate facility conditions. One facility seemed to be an outlier, with all respirators meeting performance standards, but a 15-year respirator age (the highest among the tested respirators) and flawed storage conditions.

After barely 24 hours, the researchers had sequenced the genome. They posted the sequence to an online platform called GISAID. Then a collaborator at Nextstrain, an online project that visualizes the spread of viruses through genomic analyses, compared the genome with dozens of others that had been sequenced around the world. In a series of tweets on 29 February, Nextstrain’s co-founder, computational biologist Trevor Bedford, explained his finding. The sequence contained an unusual genetic variation that matched that of the virus from the first person reported with COVID-19 in the United States, on 20 January — a man treated at a hospital north of Seattle. This meant that the virus had probably been circulating around western Washington for six weeks. Bedford calculated that in that time frame, up to 1,500 people could have been infected.

The longer a virus circulates in a human population, the more time it has to develop mutations that differentiate strains in infected people, and given that the 2019-nCoV sequences analyzed to date differ from each other by seven nucleotides at most, this suggests it jumped into humans very recently. A Jan. 27 2020, study by 5 Greek scientists analyzed the genetic relationships of 2019-nCoV and found that “the new coronavirus provides a new lineage for almost half of its genome, with no close genetic relationships to other viruses within the subgenus of sarbecovirus,” and has an unusual middle segment never seen before in any coronavirus. All this indicates that 2019-nCoV is a brand new type of coronavirus. The study’s authors rejected the original hypothesis that 2019-nCoV originated from random natural mutations between different coronaviruses. Further analysis revealed that aligned sequences of HIV-1 with 2019-nCoV were derived from surface glycoprotein gp120 (amino acid sequence positions: 404-409, 462-467, 136-150) and from Gag protein (366-384 amino acid).

Gag protein of HIV is involved in host membrane binding, packaging of the virus and for the formation of virus-like particles. Gp120 plays crucial role in recognizing the host cell by binding to the primary receptor CD4. This binding induces structural rearrangements in GP120, creating a high affinity binding site for a chemokine co-receptor like CXCR4 and/or CCR5.”It is well known that CD4 cells are essential to human immunity and are the direct targets of the Human Immunodeficiency Virus or HIV. HIV attaches to CD4 cells, enters and infects them. The virus then turns each infected CD4 cell into a factory creating more HIV virus until eventually all CD4 cells are destroyed.

People infected with HIV lose their immunity or defense system which is like a country losing the function of its army.

If we take a closer look at the 4 insertions of the S-protein in figure 3 (from Pradhan et. al. 2020 bioRxiv), they are all located on the binding surface of the protein, seemly designed to be able to bind to target cell receptor sites. Natural accidental mutation would be randomly distributed across the whole length of the S-protein. It is highly unlikely that all of these insertions would coincidentally be manifested on the binding site of the S-protein.

I want to make it clear that, in my opinion they were already working on that at the Wuhan BSL-4 facility. They were working on a biological warfare weapon involving SARS, which is a coronavirus to begin with.

We do know that Dr. [Yoshihiro] Kawaoka at the University of Wisconsin … resurrected the Spanish flu virus for the Pentagon, obviously for weapons purposes, and he specializes in mating the Spanish flu virus to all sorts of hideous biowarfare instrumentalities. And there was a record of him shipping his products to Winnipeg.

Winnipeg is Canada's equivalent of our own Fort Detrick. It's a BSL-4 facility, and yes, they research, develop tests, manufacture and stockpile every type of hideous biological warfare weapon that we know of. So, some of this technology could have been stolen from Winnipeg. I don't know about that but, as I said, the Wuhan BSL-4 was already working on this to begin with.

They had already developed SARS. SARS had leaked out two to three times before this, and it seems they were turbocharging SARS, which is what [COVID-19] looks to be. This is a brand-new generation of biowarfare weapons we haven't seen before.

Its lethality goes from 15%, as estimated by Lancet, up to 17% to 18% by a British health official and even Chinese statistics. Its infectivity is 83%. It can infect maybe three to four people for every person infected.

It has gain of function properties, which means it travels through air at least 6 or 7 feet, and … there are reports that even contaminated human feces give it off, that the human feces radiate off maybe 6 or 7 feet. So, we've never seen anything like this before in the history of biological warfare, at least in the public record.

According to Boyle, the U.S. government spent $100 billion on biological warfare programs since September 11, 2011, up until October 2015, which is no small sum. To put it into perspective, the U.S. spent $40 billion (assuming a constant dollar value) on the Manhattan Project, which developed the atomic bomb. Boyle also estimates the U.S. has some 13,000 life scientists working within the biowarfare industry.

They go out around the world, and this is a matter of public record, and scour for every type of hideous disease, fungus, virus and bacteria you can possibly imagine. They then bring it back to these BSL-4 labs and develop an offensive, biological agent using DNA genetic engineering and synthetic biology … set up by the Pentagon under DARPA …

Once they have this offensive agent, they then proceed to develop a vaccine, because the agent is no good unless you can have a vaccine to protect your own people.

So, they're developing vaccines to have biological weapons, because a biological weapon consists of two elements: the offensive biological warfare agent in the first place, and then, second, a vaccine to protect your own people, and that is what is being done at all these BSL-4 facilities, and many of the BSL-3s as well.

Konan Michel Yao, 42, pleaded guilty in a Grand Forks, N.D. courtroom to a charge of "failure to present merchandise for inspection."

He was sentenced to 17 days in jail but received credit for time already served. He was also fined $500 US.

Yao is currently in the custody of U.S. customs officials. It's unclear whether he will be coming back to Canada.

Yao was caught at the Manitoba-North Dakota border on May 5 on his way to a new job with the National Institutes of Health at the Biodefense Research Laboratory in Bethesda, Md. He had 22 vials in the trunk of his car that were allegedly taken from the lab.

Scientific director Dr. Frank Plummer says the lab obtained the virus from the Erasmus Medical Centre in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

The Dutch lab was the one that first identified the new virus last June in a sample from a Saudi man who had died of a mysterious illness.

Experts who have been watching this new virus -- which is a member of the same family as the SARS coronavirus -- have been worrying this SARS cousin will follow the same path.

With those two additional cases, the global case count rises to 40, with at least 20 deaths. Most of those cases have occurred in Saudi Arabia, though Jordan, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates have also reported cases. A researcher with ties to China was recently escorted out of the National Microbiology Lab (NML) in Winnipeg amid an RCMP investigation into what's being described as a possible "policy breach."

Dr. Xiangguo Qiu, her husband Keding Cheng and an unknown number of her students from China were removed from Canada's only level-4 lab on July 5, CBC News has learned.

A Level 4 virology facility is a lab equipped to work with the most serious and deadly human and animal diseases. That makes the Arlington Street lab one of only a handful in North America capable of handling pathogens requiring the highest level of containment, such as Ebola.

Security access for the couple and the Chinese students was revoked, according to sources who work at the lab and do not want to be identified because they fear consequences for speaking out.

Sources say this comes several months after IT specialists for the NML entered Qiu's office after-hours and replaced her computer. Her regular trips to China also started being denied.

Qiu is a prominent virologist who helped develop ZMapp, a treatment for the deadly Ebola virus which killed more than 11,000 people in West Africa between 2014-2016.

She worked with Gary Kobinger, who is now a professor in the Department of Microbiology and Infectious Diseases and director of the Research Centre on Infectious Diseases at Laval University in Quebec.

Currently head of the Vaccine Development and Antiviral Therapies section in the Special Pathogens Program at the lab, Qiu's primary field is immunology. Her research focuses on vaccine development, post-exposure therapeutics and rapid diagnostics of viruses like Ebola.

She is also an adjunct professor in the Department of Medical Microbiology at the University of Manitoba.

Cheng also works at the lab as a biologist. He has published research papers on HIV infections, Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS), E. coli infections and Creutzfeldt-Jakob Syndrome.

A spokesperson for Health Minister Ginette Petitpas Taylor said she is aware of an "administrative investigation" at the lab but has no comment.

As a specialist in infectious diseases, Plummer's work influenced international public health policies.

"Of course, the most noteworthy breakthrough that he and his team made was the finding of female sex-workers who were resistant to HIV. The gift these women have given science in the years since has been unparalleled.

"Frank had just had a joyful reunion with many of them a couple days before his passing."

Plummer was most recently living in Toronto, where he underwent experimental brain surgery to fight alcohol addiction.

He was believed to be the first person in North America to undergo deep brain stimulation for that purpose.

This is the most frightening disease I've ever encountered in my career, and that includes Ebola, it includes MERS, it includes SARS....I think the most concerning thing about this virus is the combination of infectiousness and the ability to cause severe disease or death. Also I would be remiss if I didn't share the health information aspect to be hopefully helpful in that aspect as well...
Pathology is taught during the first and sometimes second year of medical school. The primary textbook used in many medical schools is Robbins Pathology. On page 58, it clearly states “Well vascularized tissues are more resistant to infections and capable of localizing/containing offending agents. By contrast, poorly vascularized tissues are relatively inefficient in responding to inflammatory stimuli.” This means that if you have good circulation and blood flow to every tissue in the body, then this allows your immune system to mobilize a strong defense against any invading pathogen. If you don’t have good blood flow and circulation, the infection is takes hold and makes you sick and can sometimes kill you. This is basic physiology. The regulation of blood flow and circulation is based on your ability to produce nitric oxide. Another important fact about nitric oxide is that it is the molecule also produced by our immune cells to kill the invading viruses and bacteria. So if your body can’t produce nitric oxide, your body cannot and will not be able to defend itself from getting sick from an infection, including the Corona virus.

Although nitric oxide is required and essential for protecting yourself from infections, it is not all that you need to do. Below are my basic recommendations to keep yourself and your family safe from all infections including the Corona virus. I have practiced these techniques for over 17 years and I have not been sick or lost a single day of work due to illness during that same time. I know it works and it can work for you and everyone in your family.

Steps to avoid illness from infectious disease:

So, what can you do? Wearing a mask will not help protect you from becoming ill with any viral infection—corona virus included. I would check that off the list.

First, it is important to maintain optimal levels of nutrients, particularly vitamins A, C, and D. Most people have suboptimal vitamin A and C levels. Both of these nutrients have antiviral abilities and are able to support the immune system when it is under viral attack. If you are not ill, I suggest taking 3-5,000 mg/day of vitamin C. At the first sign of an illness, I would suggest taking 1,000 mg/hour until diarrhea develops, then back off for a time period. For vitamin A, I suggest using 5,000 Units/day if you are not sick and 100,000 Units/day for four days at the first sign of an illness. Pregnant women cannot take these doses. Amen and Amen! Paper...real or digital...can’t replace production...and the loss thereof.

That said...we will need to keep the wheels turning on the debt bus or it’s gonna get ugly so fast our heads will spin. I was asking some business partners in China how they were managing payroll with everyone at home and not producing...response was government mandating businesses paying employees regardless. It will be interesting to see how that goes down here. With 75-80% of Americans living paycheck to paycheck...there will need to be some sort of stimulus to employers or direct checks to employees (or temporary debt forgiveness) to keep the debt serviced while production grinds to a haul.

A February, 2020 article about coronavirus reported that the virus is able to invade the body by binding to angiotensin-converting enzyme II (ACE 2). ACE 2 is expressed in mucosal lining of the oral cavity. So, when exposed to coronavirus, COVID-19 gains entrance into the body by binding to the ACE 2 receptors in the oral cavity.

Guess where other ACE 2 receptors have been found? High ACE 2 expression has also been found in lung cells. (2) Pneumonia is one the most serious problems associated with COVID-19. ACE 2 has also been identified in other areas of the body including the esophagus, heart, kidney and bladder. All these organs are potential risks of infection for COVID-19.

Here’s where things get more interesting. An older 2015 study (3) looked at smoke inhalation and the development of acute respiratory distress syndrome. The smoke exposure given to rats resulted in an increased expression of ACE 2 in the lungs when compared with controls not exposed to smoke.

Which population of people would be more prone to having ACE 2 receptors elevated in the lungs? Cigarette smokers would. In China, smoking is at a markedly higher rate than it is here. In fact, there are estimates that over 350 million Chinese are cigarette smokers. (3) This accounts for over a third of the world’s smokers. When you factor in the increased levels of pollution which may do the same thing, this would result in a higher death rate from a COVID-19 infection in China as compared to the US.

In China, 60% of males smoke while only 4% of females do. COVID-19 has been reported to be more deadly in males from the information coming out of China. In America, less than 20% currently smoke cigarettes. That includes about 16% of men and 12% of women. Currently, 34 million Americans smoke cigarettes. These numbers have been declining for decades.

This should give reassurance to non-smokers. For those who smoke, here is another reason to stop. If you are a smoker, I advise you to take vitamin C (3-10,000 mg/day or to bowel tolerance), vitamin A 10,000 IU/day (unless you are pregnant), and vitamin D (6-10,000 IU/day). If you become ill with a viral infection, I would suggest following my viral protocol from the previous posts: For four days, take 50,000 U of vitamin D3 and 100,000 U of vitamin A per day). After the four days, resume the previous dosing. It is best to work with a holistic doctor who can monitor your levels as both vitamin A and D can become toxic.

We saw early on that China bulldozed large piles of material on roads of cities to block people from entering and leaving. China has welded people in homes and dragged them out of their homes to medical detention centers. China has shutdown most of their factories collapsing their economy. People have been seen falling down dead in China and even already in Iran. China has shut down social media.

The extremely harsh reaction of the Chinese suggests a more dangerous virus than the mass media is portraying. The worst I have seen in print suggests that 83% exposed become infected. Infections double every 3 to 6 days. Up to 50% infected need hospitalization. Of those 50%; with hospital care the death rate is 15%, without hospital care the death rate is 65%. That might have been the truth in Wuhan where they have the complication of extremely heavy air and water pollution as well as newly installed 5G. It still remains to be seen how high the death rates will go especially when we see the medical response failing.

No matter what the virus is doing public perception is slaughtering the economy. Even if the disease kills fewer people this year than the common cold, the global medical response is a wrecking ball crashing through the economies at too many points to count. I think it obvious that public perception was engineered from the beginning. Just to put things into perspective:

“The business response to COVID-19 is completely unprecedented. So is the US government response. So is the Chinese government response. So are the stock markets’ responses all around the world. And, therefore, so is the general public’s response because what else can they make of all these responses by governments and health agencies and businesses with their constant warnings on every radio channel and television news program?”

“Even the notorious bubonic plague, which has broken out several times in the US, never got a response anything like this! Yet, even with treatment, the bubonic plague has a much higher death rate than COVID-19 (as high as 30-90% without treatment, and still 10% even with antibiotic treatment), and there is no effective vaccine for the bubonic plague either.”

Fear of the illness is killing us economically. Entire skyscrapers are being shut down, conventions and festivals that profit entire communities shut down, airports empty, states of emergency breaking out everywhere, entire corporate work forces sent home for a month, schools and colleges closed!

Dramatic measures will be taken to combat the rapid spread of the coronavirus, yet officials have already conceded that we will not be able to stop or even arrest much the spread of the virus. We have never seen anything like this — not on 9/11, not in any viral outbreak in the US.

Social activity is grinding to a halt. The spread of the coronavirus is shutting down the world economy. In increasing numbers people are no longer travelling. The spread of the virus, whether through fear or fact, is sharply reducing both production and demand. Indebted businesses will not have the cashflow to pay debt interest and supply chains will be riddled with payment failures. Previously acceptable debt is becoming junk. Banks will need to be rescued from defaulting customers and the euro’s future will be increasingly questioned.

The party is over. “The world is now facing the gravest economic and social downturn in modern history. We are entering a period of global crisis that will change the world for a very long time to come. Closing all factories, offices, schools, shops, railways, cinemas etc. will paralyze the countries and the world economy. To totally close down countries and production, leading to shortages of food and medicine, will probably kill more people over time than the virus itself,” writes Egon von Greyerz.

This is at first glance a good thing for the US and maybe Europe, but it will be more than offset its devastating impact on China’s vast and massively over-indebted contract manufacturing sector and hyper-leveraged municipalities.

Which means the best case scenario is the long-awaited Chinese financial crisis. And with the rest of the world just as over-leveraged as China, the implications of the second biggest economy shifting into reverse and possibly descending into chaos are hard to predict in detail but easy to envision generally: turmoil in the currency, fixed income and stock markets which force the governments to push interest rates into negative territory and run deficits that dwarf those of the Great Recession.

China has reportedly deployed 40 industrial incinerators to the epicentre of the coronavirus outbreak Wuhan.

Chinese media reports that the furnaces have been shipped to the city amid ongoing fears the death toll is being covered up.

NTD reports that the cabins are for the disposal of animal carcasses, while China Ship news reports the incinerators are for medical waste.

Wuhan has been at the centre of the global epidemic which has infected more than 75,000 people and killed more than 2,000.

A near-perfect 99.99% of variance is explained by the equation, this person said.

Put in an investing context, that variance, or so-called r-squared value, would mean that an investor could predict tomorrow’s stock price with almost perfect accuracy. In this case, the high r-squared means there is essentially zero unexpected variability in reported cases day after day.

Barron’s re-created the regression analysis of total deaths caused by the virus, which first emerged in the central Chinese city of Wuhan at the end of last year, and found similarly high variance. We ran it by Melody Goodman, associate professor of biostatistics at New York University’s School of Global Public Health.

“I have never in my years seen an r-squared of 0.99,” Goodman says. “As a statistician, it makes me question the data.”

Real human data are never perfectly predictive when it comes to something like an epidemic, Goodman says, since there are countless ways that a person could come into contact with the virus.

For context, Goodman says a “really good” r-squared, in terms of public health data, would be a 0.7. “Anything like 0.99,” she said, “would make me think that someone is simulating data. It would mean you already know what is going to happen.”

...personal preference for worldometers...at least for the following analysis...

As of close today USA 532,879 for 0.1610% of the population...and Italy 14 days ago was at 92,472 cases for 0.1529% of their population.

Pretty consistent progress now for the 42 days I've been tracking the data...started with approximately a 16.5 day lag behind Italy and we are currently about 13.25 days...or reducing the lag time about 1 day every two weeks. Italy declared a national quarantine 3/10/2020 with positive cases accounting for .0168% of their population. It started fairly unenforced and then ramped up over the next couple of weeks not too unlike what has progressed in the US. Not a fair apples to apples comparison to USA...with such wide variances between states - population/demographics/hot spots/etc...but we are approaching a national quarantine with .1610% of the population testing positive. About a ten fold difference.

That said...military weapon or not...mild flu or super nasty bug...intentional or unintentional release...

The cure is much worse than the disease. Freedom's disappearing by the minute. Flood of cash to the top business brass. Federal Reserve (handful of private banks...with small number of private shareholders)...printing like its going out of style (literally trillions in a matter of weeks). And it ain't free money...no siree! What they are printing is title transfer documents. Transfer of ownership of everything...from the people...to the Federal Reserve. Their balance sheet grows (cause they buying the world)...and everyone else's contracts. For what price you might ask? The cost of printing...digitally that is! Lot's of 1's and 0's on computers. This is the day of collection...the pit that has been established and prepared for...for the last 100 plus years...since 1913.

And the most widespread (global) engagement towards the lock down of society in the most controlled circumstances we could ever imagine. Let's see how it ends...

Another 30 days or so from my last post/ramble. This COVID journey has certainly been interesting! No matter which way you lean on it...there appears to be data and opinions supporting your belief pattern....from extremely lethal to extremely mild to planned vs accident.

The viral "Plandemic" video that was released a week or so ago has really rattled the world in a short amount of time. I'd post it but it likely would be inoperable within minutes after posting this. IF elected officials are duly elected by the majority of the people...and thus represent the wishes of the majority as well as adhering to rule of law...THEN the minority ought to go the route of falling in line or seeking to extol the logic of their desires to the majority in terms of better representation.

Let me repeat...Tiny little Canadian company moves to Colorado and acquires #1 & #2 market share leaders literally months apart.

ES&S is still in the game with Dominion. Both are owned by private equity. Dominion used to advertise on their home page for a number of years..."We are much more than a systems manufacturer; we are an election solutions company."

There have been some sirens (alarm tense - not female) and outcry over the years...whistleblowers who attempted to get the word out...many of whom have paid the ultimate price for their efforts. The power struggle in the beginning. The moneyed efforts to split the country in two during the Civil War...as well as attempts to bury the country in debt (thank you Lincoln for seeing that for what it was). The shenanigans, assassinations, and depressions (control of money) that rippled into the 2nd World War when power was truly consolidated. A quick example being the Wall Street plot led by Prescott Bush (true traitor to freedom)...who's son and grandson went on to be US Presidents. The Politician's (Eisenhower) rise to glory from colonel to 4 star general in couple of years during war while never commanding a combat unit into battle (glorified secretarial and back office career). The money wars - Korea, Vietnam, etc. The battle between the Bush/Walker family (which includes CIA) and the Kennedy family...winner should be obvious. And all the actors down to our current "you're fired" fruitcake.

I am certainly no fan of Trump (I did vote for him as the better of the evil choices). He is simply following the script. If you don't like the yin you can tune into the yang (Fauci)...also on script.

Tired of them...tune into Biden's rambling nonsense...

I'm still in some state of unbelievable stupor that we've descended to such depths...surely there are better more credible actors out there we can access to read the teleprompter...I know we haven't had a decent honorable president for over a 100 years...but surely surely we can do better than our current options???

On Friday, Donald Trump announced his appointment of Moncef Slaoui, a former executive with vaccine manufacturer GlaxoSmithKline, to lead “Operation Warp Speed”, Trump’s plan to fast track the development of vaccines for COVID-19. Slaoui will serve in a volunteer position, assisted by Army Gen. Gustave Perna, the commander of United States Army Materiel Command.

The appointment of Slaoui follows previous statements regarding Trump’s desire to have vaccines available to Americans by the fall. “I think we’re going to have a vaccine by the end of the year, and I think distribution will take place almost simultaneously because we’ve geared up the military,” Trump said Thursday afternoon. Trump also told the Fox Business Network that because of the “massive job to give this vaccine” the military is now being mobilized. “We’re going to be able to give it to a lot of people very, very rapidly,” Trump concluded.

An examination of the career and connections of Dr. Moncef Slaoui reveals that Donald Trump’s appointment of a Big Pharma executive is not a cause for celebration, but rather, another piece of the incestuous web connecting Bill and Melinda Gates and the Medical Mafia.

Following his education, Slaoui joined the pharmaceutical industry, serving on the board of Directors of GlaxoSmithKline between 2006 through 2015. Slaoui served in several senior research & development (R&D) roles with GlaxoSmithKline during his time with the company, including Chairman of Global Vaccines. GSK has a history of working with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation on projects such as the development of a malaria vaccine and anti-HIV compounds used as microbicides. He is also partner at MediciX investment firm, chairman of the board at Galvani Bioelectronics, chairman of the board at SutroVax and sits on the boards of Artisan Biosciences, Human Vaccines Project and Moderna Therapeutics. Each of these companies is involved in vaccine development and the emerging field of bioelectronics.

Galvani Bioelectronics was formed out of an agreement with Verily Life Sciences LLC (formerly Google Life Sciences), an Alphabet company, and GSK. The goal is to “enable the research, development and commercialisation of bioelectronic medicines.”

Galvani’s plan to use miniature implantable devices within the body was described by MIT Technology Review as “hacking the nervous system.” In 2016, Slaoui said, “We hope to have approval and be in the marketplace in the next seven to 10 years. It’s not science fiction. And it’s progressing quite well.”

Moderna is working with the U.S. NIH to develop a vaccine for the new coronavirus and how the project will be entirely funded by CEPI, which in turn was founded and funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Moderna’s vaccine is a controversial messenger RNA (mRNA) vaccine which was developed with a $25 million grant from the Defense Advanced Research Project Agency (DARPA).

Despite the launch of Operation Warp Speed, the appointment of a Big Pharma Executive, and the calls for military involvement in distribution of vaccines, some Trump supporters still maintain that Donald J. Trump is not a part of the Rockefeller-Gates agenda to vaccinate the entire world. However, Trump’s action tell another story.

Although Trump questioned the safety of vaccinations as far back as 2014, since becoming President he has towed the party line. In April 2019, while questioned about alleged outbreaks of measles and whether or not he supports Americans’ right to opt out of the MMR vaccine, Trump stated that Americans “have to get the shots. The vaccinations are so important.” Trump concluded with the support of mandatory vaccinations: “This is really going around now. They have to get their shots.”

We do acknowledge that Donald Trump has made several statements – including during Friday’s press conference – indicating that he is not currently planning to call for mandatory vaccinations of all Americans. However, rather than hanging on the words of the president as if they are gospel, we should judge the man by his actions. When looking at Trump’s actual actions – not his tweets – it’s clear that he has not drained the swamp, but has instead, filled it with familiar Deep State bureaucrats pushing an agenda of their own. Prosecutors have not brought criminal charges against any individuals in connection with the GSK case, although the settlement expressly leaves open that possibility. Cole declined to comment on the possibility of future charges.

Almost exactly a year ago GSK agreed to pay nearly $41 million to 37 states and the District of Columbia in an unrelated case about substandard manufacturing processes at a Puerto Rico factory.

Who is in charge?

Well, “USNORTHCOM [US Northern Command] exercises coordinating authority for planning of DOD efforts in support of the USG response to pandemic influenza and infectious disease,” says a Pentagon publication (JP 3-40) on Joint Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction.

What is NORTHCOM doing?

“DoD has nearly 11,000 personnel dedicated to COVID-19 operations nation-wide, with nearly 2,500 in the New York City area,” according to an April 10 news release. “DOD is providing expeditionary medical care in several states across the country.”

“NORTHCOM is out there working furiously to carry out its many missions, implementing at least five different operations plans simultaneously,” according to military researcher William M. Arkin.

But “Implementing might be too strong of a word,” he wrote, “because even though these plans run in the hundreds of pages, most are thrown out the window almost as soon as they are taken off the shelf, useful in laying out how things should be organized but otherwise too rigid — or fanciful — to apply to the real world.”

In a new piece, Arkin surveyed 19 operational military plans that in theory govern NORTHCOM activities. Most of them are not publicly available, and some are classified.

Here in the United States, our stores still have plenty of food. But empty shelves have started to appear, and food prices are starting to go up aggressively.

In fact, we just witnessed the largest one month increase in food prices that we have seen since 1974.

For a long time I have been warning my readers that eventually a loaf of bread in the U.S. will cost five dollars, and one of my readers in Hawaii just told me that “my wife came home with ½ loaf of bread for $2.99”.

But behind the usual flag waving and Red Scare antics lies a stark new reality: Chinese companies, at the urging of their government, have launched a global buying spree, a new phase in their unprecedented economic experiment. And they’re targeting a resource that climate scientists, economists, the U.S. government, even Wall Street, all forecast will become dangerously scarce in the coming decades: food.

The world is set for a geopolitical struggle over food.

The Chinese government already is dealing with looming food shortages within its own borders as tens of millions are eating more as they move from poverty into the middle class. The government is pushing Chinese businesses – both state-owned and privately held – to gobble up agricultural resources from around the world, including Africa, Europe and the United States.

The Chinese government acts like a de facto board of directors for the country’s domestic industries – even for publicly traded companies like Shuanghui. The Communist Party issues the five-year plan, and Shuanghui is expected to follow that direction. The government can say it wants the Chinese meat industry to employ certain strategies, and all domestic companies are expected to adhere. Yet the day-to-day management of the company, how it chooses to carry out those directives, is left to the company’s management. And if there is no directive, the company is free to proceed as it views best.

The Chinese government owns a bank that provides the nation’s businesses with financing. For helping carry out the government’s agenda, Shuanghui received a $4 billion loan to take over Smithfield. The loan was approved in a single day.

The Bank of China described the financing as its “social responsibility” and said it was carrying out the government’s plan to help domestic companies purchase overseas businesses, according to its 2013 annual report.

“The Bank spares no efforts to support Chinese enterprises in their international competition,” it said.

By the end of 2012, the Chinese owned $900 million in U.S. farmland – a 1,000 percent increase – making them the largest buyers that year, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

The Smithfield deal included another $480 million in U.S. farmland, which would push the Chinese stake to nearly $1.4 billion in less than two years.

With the Smithfield purchase, a Chinese company now owns 1 in 4 pigs raised in the U.S.

Here it is in its simplest form: Haley has found that China begins by importing the technological know-how and raw materials from the U.S. Then Chinese businesses use cheap labor to manufacture products for export back to the United States – offering lower prices in direct competition with established businesses in the U.S. This part of her theory is obviously not new.

But here is where she advances the conversation: She has found that even in industries in which the labor cost of the final product is relatively low, meaning it accounts for 2 to 7 percent of the total, Chinese companies still are able to sell the product for 25 to 30 percent less than their American competitors. In other words, China’s big advantage is not just the cheaper labor.

China has been ramping up its purchases of American meat products, because it’s faced its own shortages “due to a pig disease called African swine fever that’s led to the death of half the country’s herd over the past two years,” Reuters reports.

Also, in January, the Trump administration signed a deal to ease the trade war with China, and that included commitments from the Chinese to buy more American farm exports.

According to government data analyzed by Reuters, China has been buying.

Pork supplies are down about 40% since mid-March in the U.S., but pork shipments to China have quadrupled in that same time period. About a third of all U.S. produced pork has been exported so far this year.

The USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has updated its Export Library for China to reflect expanded access for U.S. beef and pork. These changes were among the provisions negotiated in the U.S.-China Phase One Economic and Trade Agreement that was signed Jan. 15 and entered into force Feb. 14.

With the 30-month cattle age limit eliminated, beef and beef products (including processed products) from cattle of all ages are now eligible for China, provided they are from facilities listed in the Export Library. China no longer enforces a zero-tolerance policy for growth hormones used in beef production, having adopted the maximum residue limits recognized by the Codex Alimentarius Commission. (China still enforces a zero-tolerance for ractopamine residues.)

General Atomics’ SkyGuardian drone, a non-weaponized variant of the military’s MQ-9 Reaper, last week completed a test flight through civil airspace from Palmdale, California to Yuma, Arizona, the company announced.

The April 3 flight demonstration, sponsored by NASA, marks a further step in the planned integration of drones into the National Airspace System.

For now, drone technology is advancing faster than the capacity to regulate it. Privacy is a special concern. “These eyes in the sky could become spies in the sky,” said Rep. Ed Markey at a 2018 Senate hearing on integrating drones into the National Airspace System that was published last month.

“Drones could use facial recognition to identify everyone walking on Main Street and selling that geo-location information to advertisers. It could use plate readers to know everyone who visits a health clinic and selling that sensitive information to insurance companies,” Rep. Markey suggested. In the wake of recent scandals, “the American public wants robust privacy protections, not voluntary guidelines,” he said.

Other critics have similar concerns.

“The surveillance hardware developed for these weapons in conflicts overseas can produce a detailed video record of an entire city,” said researcher Barry Summers. “The database is searchable in real time or at a later date. Meaning, the government would have a permanent record of the movements of millions of innocent Americans. We live in an age where we know that any surveillance capability that can be abused, has been abused.”

In a vote of 80-16, the US Senate yesterday approved HR 6172, which reauthorizes several surveillance authorities originally passed into law via the USA PATRIOT Act as temporary measures. HR 6172 cements the collection of business records, the “roving wiretap provision,” and the so-called “lone wolf provision,” which allows the surveillance of those with no known connection to terrorist organizations. While the FBI has testified to the Congress that the “lone wolf provision” has never been used, this is widely thought to be inaccurate and that this provision is the authority under which US citizens, activists and journalists, are being widely surveilled.

Several amendments were proposed to the Senate, only one of which passed. Senator Mike Lee, R-Utah, had proposed an amendment which would guarantee the participation of an Amicus Curiae (Friend of the Court) in cases involving requests for permission from FISA to surveil political figures, religious organizations and the press. This amendment passed by a vote of 77-19.

An N95 respirator is an air-purifying respirator (APR) certified by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH). They are filter masks that fit over the nose and mouth, and when properly fitted, can filter 95% of smoke particles. However, N95 respirators do not filter toxic gases, vapors or the smell of smoke.

Though these mask were designed to prevent inhalation of dangerous pathogens etc, they were not designed for long term usage and with the current COVID-19 crisis, many medical staff are using it for extended periods of time.

N95 masks, which are easy to wear while providing substantial protection, can reduce the amount of oxygen reaching the lungs by up to 20%. This causes fatigue, may lower blood-oxygen saturation, and lead staff to work shorter hours or even force them to pull their masks off the face frequently to get breathers which can lead to contamination.
