Federal judge orders Fort Collins to “free the nipple” — from city regulation

The Municipality of Fort Collins in the state of Colorado passed an ordinance (No. 134) in November 2015, banning girls and women older than nine from exposing their breasts in public unless they were breastfeeding. City officials argued that allowing females to publicly expose their breasts would likely cause distraction among drivers and pedestrians. This, they believe, has a tendency to disrupt public order.

When the facts of the case were presented before the court, District Judge R. Brooke Jackson granted a preliminary injunction on ordinance No. 134. Jackson ruled that the law is discriminatory against women, as well as perpetuating stereotypes that sexualized female breasts.

In a free society, it is incumbent that public behavior be moderated and kept to the lowest common denominator of decency acceptable to the participants of said society.

You cannot have a functioning society if everyone is forcing their fetishes and odd behaviors on everyone else in the public space. You simply end up with a chaotic situation where those with a sense of decency are forced to retreat from the public square.

In this environment there is no sense of community or shared culture. This has been going on in our cities for quite some time. In place of a real society or culture, you end up with a top down government or interest group organized and instituted system where you are informed what your shared culture is. Much like the man who is always telling everyone how tough or intelligent he is.. If you have to say it, it probably isn't so.

It has been said we already fit the bill for what Sodom and Gamorrah were like.

I suspect that we will see our children attacked more than they already are. Some say that all sexual deviance will be tolerated which pretty much leaves animals and children.

I also believe that the day will soon come that people who chose ANYTHING good will be persecuted in one way or another. Heterosexual marriage will be frowned upon as well as those who chose to have children and of course religion and freedom.

It is bad now, really bad. But...it can most definately get 100x worse.

I think as things do get worse and more in your face, it will be easier for most of us to see evil for what it is and flee from it. (I worry most for the kids) There will also be a greater divide between righteous and evil which can also make it a bit easier for people to gravitate and stay on the good side with like minded people.

On Nov. 3, 2015, the city enacted an ordinance that prohibited females 10 or older from exposing their breasts from below the top of the areola in public or on private property if that place can be viewed by someone on public property. This ordinance exempted women who were breastfeeding. Someone who violated the ordinance could be fined up to $2,650 or imprisoned for 180 days.

180 days in prison for showing the nipple?! That is ridiculous.

“Frankly, even if this ordinance were not on the books I doubt that women would be regularly walking through downtown Fort Collins with their breasts exposed, or parading in front of elementary schools, or swimming topless in the public pool, as defendant cautioned us during the hearing,” he wrote.

“As with many other legal behaviors, common sense and sensitivity to the feelings of others tells us that there is a time and a place,” he continued. “It seems to me that the primary focus here is the equal right of women to expose their breasts in public, not necessarily a plan to make it an everyday, everywhere routine.”

He recognized that his decision to strike down the law would upset many Fort Collins residents. Although he said stopping women from showing their breasts may be a significant issue of personal morality, he ruled that those concerns are outweighed by the constitutional rights of others.

I kind of agree with the judge. I trust that people use common sense. There is no need to have laws and ordinances for everything.

Yes, if we just take a look at what Hollywood is producing these days, the world could get way worse.

I know I can still drive to the market, pay my bills, raise my child, visit the doctor, eat clean food and drink clean water, hunt, buy a weapon, build a house, own land, vote, attend church and be safe doing it.

It is still an easy way of life compared to what the Christians and others are facing in other countries around the world.

We have an evil problem, not really a survival problem....yet.

I've got bad new for you. It is much worse than the 60s. As someone who lived through the 60s, I know. The Free Love hippy movement was a small segment of society REBELLING against societal norms. Any public nudity was actually flaunting the law. This is the LAW demanding that society slip down, even if the majority of people want to maintain some small scrap of decency.
