Russia’s deputy United Nations ambassador Vladimir Safronkov said that the West’s “obsession with regime change is what hinders this Security Council.”

I could foresee a complex covert op against NORK involving a couple of teams of our best ninja-like operatives acting in concert with small, discrete military units for a rapid insertion and extraction (though those kinds of things are notorious for going badly), and I can see an even-more-likely covert cyber attack if our desk jockeys are competent enough to pull it off without identifying themselves (I don’t think they are), but I just can’t see that folks inside the upper circles of military-political strategy — no matter who in hell is really in charge — would go nuclear or risk a major counter-attack of any proportion.

[Ed.: Aside from trying to analyze all the nuances, the players and questions of just exactly who is in command, the idea that the US would drop a nuclear weapon (unless it’s a very, very small one*) on North Korea is simply preposterous.
Didn’t we drop one of those* in China previously?
Perhaps it was not a nuke, or it wasn’t the US. Maybe they did it to themselves, no?
I could foresee a complex covert op against NORK involving a couple of teams of our best ninja-like operatives acting in concert with small, discrete military units for a rapid insertion and extraction (though those kinds of things are notorious for going badly), and I can see an even-more-likely covert cyber attack if our desk jockeys are competent enough to pull it off without identifying themselves (I don’t think they are), but I just can’t see that folks inside the upper circles of military-political strategy — no matter who in hell is really in charge — would go nuclear or risk a major counter-attack of any proportion.

Carr: FBI’s James Comey invents a novel defense for crooks
The prisons have always been full of innocent men — just ask them during visiting hours.
But from now on the lockups will teem with a new class of jailbird — those who didn’t know they were committing crimes.
In case you missed it, FBI Director James “J. Edgar” Comey, in his latest attempt to broom the high crimes and misdemeanors of Crooked Hillary Clinton, told a Senate committee this week that even though Hillary, her top aide Huma Abedin et al. had undoubtedly committed all sorts of felonies, it was impossible to prosecute them.
“With respect to Ms. Abedin in particular,” J. Edgar Comey said, “we didn’t have any indication that she had a sense that what she was doing was in violation of the law.”
Really?
We always understood that the Clintons were trafficking in huge numbers of classified government emails that were illegally sent or deleted — for example, she destroyed at least 33,000 under federal subpoena, that we know of.
But Comey upped the ante more than somewhat this week, saying that Huma had sent “hundreds of thousands of emails, some of which contained classified information” — to her blackmailable husband, the pervert ex-Congressman Anthony Weiner, who once allegedly sexted with an underage teenage girl using the alias “Carlos Danger.”
What could possibly go wrong with this scenario?
Hundreds of thousands of illegal emails! And these are just the ones that J. Edgar admitted knowing about. If they were all just about yoga schedules and Chelsea Clinton’s wedding, as Hillary claimed, then why did she feel the need to destroy them with Bleach Bit?
Last July, at his first public whitewashing of the massive scandal, J. Edgar Comey copped to the fact that it’s a felony to handle classified information with “gross negligence.” But there was no “gross negligence” on Hillary’s part, he claimed.
She was just “extremely careless,” he stammered on, which is very different from “gross negligence.”
Think of the possibilities that are now open to the defense bar. This could be a bigger boon to the element than Miranda warnings, or Annie Dookhan. How can any perp now be charged with, say, robbing a bank? The guy in the mask can just explain that he thought he was making an “unauthorized withdrawal” from the FDIC-insured institution.

Sallet of the FBI’s New Orleans Division.

Former Lt. Col. Gerald Savoy was sentenced to serve 87 months in prison. Wesley Hayes, the former Warden of the Iberia Parish Jail, was sentenced to serve 34 months. And Hayes’ brother Jesse, a former Assistant Warden at the jail, was sentenced to serve 24 months.
The convictions of these three defendants, and seven others who were sentenced in February, stemmed from several incidents of abuse at the Iberia Parish Jail (IPJ) in 2011.
During the course of an expansive investigation, 10 former IPSO officials pleaded guilty to federal criminal civil rights violations. During their guilty plea hearings, the officials admitted to various incidents in which deputies willfully assaulted inmates, without legal justification for doing so. One of those incidents, including the incident to which Savoy and the Hayes brothers pled guilty, involved the abuse of a pretrial detainee in September 2011.
A second incident to which numerous deputies pled guilty, occurred at the IPJ on April 29, 2011, when five pretrial detainees were taken into a chapel at the jail and were beaten by sheriff’s deputies.
The seven other defendants, who were sentenced previously for their roles in these civil rights offenses, are former Lt. Bret Broussard of the Narcotics Unit, who was sentenced to 54 months in prison; former narcotics agent Wade Bergeron, who was sentenced to 48 months in prison; former narcotics agent Jason Comeaux, who was sentenced to 40 months in prison; former narcotics agent David Hines, who was sentenced to 40 months in prison; former narcotics agent Byron Benjamin Lassalle, who was sentenced to 54 months in prison; and former K-9 handlers Robert Burns and Jeremy Hatley, who were sentenced to six months in prison and 36 months in prison respectively.
An additional deputy, former Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office Capt. Mark Frederick has been indicted and is pending trial at a later date. An indictment is merely an accusation and a defendant is presumed innocent unless, and until, proven guilty, beyond a reasonable doubt.

For years, vice detective Chris Baughman and prosecutor Liz Mercer were regular fixtures at news conferences and in high-profile trials.
Baughman was often the lead investigator and star witness in cases made against big time pimps and Liz Mercer was the principal prosecutor in those same cases, including the one that sent Ocean Fleming to prison for life.
Fleming alleged during his original trial that Baughman and Mercer had coached witnesses to exaggerate his crimes, and that Baughman and other vice cops had engaged in sexual relations with prostitutes who testified against their pimps.
On Thursday, both were back in court, but this time, on the other side. Both Baughman and Mercer -- who are now a married couple -- were subpoenaed so Ocean Fleming's attorneys could depose them as part of Fleming's bid for a new trial.
Almost immediately, special prosecutor Adam Gill asked the judge to kick the I-Team out of the courtroom.
"Their camera, I believe, is running now and I think it is incredibly inappropriate," Gill said. "I'd ask that it be shut down now judge."
The reason private attorney Adam Gill is representing the state in the case is that the DA's office recused itself once it was established that Liz Mercer, who still works for the district attorney, had been less than forthright about her relationship with Baughman.

Police and school officials in Virginia are investigating repugnant Snapchat videos showing middle school football players simulating sex acts with black students while shouting racist remarks.
The disturbing videos show black students from Short Pump Middle School in Glen Allen pinned to the ground of a locker room with other students on top of them, NBC12 reported.
One of the aggressors included a white student, a parent told CBS6.

LAS VEGAS - The legal tables were turned Thursday for a well-known prosecutor and a former star detective.
Attorneys for a convicted pimp used subpoenas to get deputy district attorney Liz Mercer and former vice cop Chris Baughman to court for depositions under oath.
