"US PRESIDENT Donald Trump has accused former leader Barack Obama of ordering a wire tap on Trump Tower ahead of his election win.
Mr Trump made the explosive accusation in an early morning tweet on Saturday, comparing it to “McCarthyism”. He offered no evidence for his claims.
“Terrible!” the President said. “Just found out that Obama had my ‘wires tapped’ in Trump Tower just before the victory. Nothing found. This is McCarthyism!”

Presidents have the power to declassify anything at any time, so Trump could immediately make public any government records of such surveillance.

"The Congressional Black Caucus PAC (CBC PAC) spends lavishly on upscale resorts and hotels, catering at exclusive restaurants, and on fundraising and Broadway tickets, according to a review of campaign finance records.
The CBC PAC, which is the fundraising arm of the Congressional Black Caucus, puts far more money towards administrative and fundraising purposes than it donates to candidates, the intended purpose of the political action committee.
The CBC PAC claims its mission is to increase "the number of African Americans in the U.S. Congress" and to "support non-Black candidates that champion our interests, and promote African American participation in the political process-with an emphasis on young voters," according to its website.
The PAC spent hundreds of thousands throughout the 2016 election cycle on administrative expenses that included bills for lavish trips that were paid by the committee.
A $5,000 payment was made in January 2016 from the PAC to the Buccaneer Hotel located in St. Croix, Virgin Islands, one of the "world's top 50 tropical resorts."
Later, on March 21, 2016, the PAC made another payment to a resort in the Virgin Islands. This time, the money went towards a stay at the "one-of-a-kind" Renaissance St. Croix Carambola Beach Resort and Spa also located in St. Croix. The Renaissance is situated "among the foothills of a lush tropical rainforest and only steps away from the pristine sands of Estate Davis Bay."
The PAC spent $820 on taxicabs while in the Virgin Islands. More than $2,000 was spent at Sweeny's St. Croix Tours in the town of Christiansted, considered "the most beautiful town in the West Indies." Sweeny's provides an open-air bus for its guests as they embark on safari tours of the island. More than $4,500 was also spent by the PAC on catering at Un Amore, an Italian restaurant.
The group's largest expenses were made in New York and Washington, D.C.
The Conrad Hotel, a luxury all-suite hotel located in New York City, is a favorite of the PAC, which spent in excess of $40,000 at the venue throughout the last election cycle. Another favorite of the PAC, the St. Regis Hotel in Washington, D.C., that "plays home to dignitaries, royalties, and refined travelers alike," received more than $18,000 in payments from the committee.
Other expenditures by the group included $6,576 on lodging at the 5-star Beverly Hills Hotel and $3,268 on lodging at the Waldorf La Quinta Hotel, Resort, and Spa located in La Quinta, Calif. The PAC spent $4,180 at the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas and also spent $3,372 for "facilities rental" at Drai's Rooftop Bar and Lounge at the Cromwell Las Vegas Hotel and Casino on the trip.
More than $2,000 was spent at the Fantasy Springs Resort Hotel in Indio, Calif., while $1,421 went towards rooms at the Harbor View Hotel at Martha's Vineyard, among other hotels and resorts.
Tens of thousands also went toward fundraising event tickets and catering at high-end restaurants from the PAC.
The group paid $28,342 for "fundraising event tickets" to IHeartMedia Inc., a mass media corporation in San Antonio, Texas. The PAC put $22,112 toward "tickets and catering for a fundraising event" at the Staples Center, a sports arena, in Los Angeles, Calif. More than $25,000 was spent on catering at The Palm restaurant in New York City while $27,070 was spent on catering at Bobby Van's Steakhouse in Washington, D.C. Thousands more were spent at other restaurants.
The group also spent $1,621 on Broadway tickets and another $5,960 at the Golden Theater in New York City.
The PAC additionally paid $32,000 in rent to the Congressional Black Caucus Institute, a non-profit that plays a "pivotal role in training the next generation of political leaders and providing voters with relevant information regarding issues in their communities," its website states.
Benjamin Branch, who provides administrative and managerial consulting services to the PAC, pocketed nearly $177,000 from the group.
The committee put $283,100 total towards administrative expenses while $127,000 went towards fundraising purposes. The PAC contributed just $91,000 to federal candidates, according to overall data of the PAC from the Center for Responsive Politics."

"You've probably seen the news. The proponents of the government-run Obamacare disaster are out in full force, and they're making waves. After talking to thousands of Kentuckians last year, and after seeing last year's election results - well, I don't think they are the real majority.
But I can tell you, if they aren't balanced out, they will have an effect.
I want to make sure my colleagues hear from YOU! Americans from across the country who believe in freedom, and who want Obamacare REPEALED AND REPLACED NOW! So it is very important you raise YOUR voice today, with me.
I'm asking you to sign our REPEAL AND REPLACE petition right away, so I can show other members of Congress that people with signs and chants are not the only ones who are engaged on the issue -- and in fact, they do not speak for the majority of Americans.

When I ran for office in 2010 and again in 2016 I pledged to fight Obamacare. Now is our chance. We have a Republican President and Congress, and the time to act is now.
But I'm afraid too many of my colleagues, especially in the House leadership, appear to be leaning toward an "Obamacare Lite" approach.
I won't stand for it. And neither should you.
Americans voted for repeal, and for change. I have a plan to give them both.
Too many of my colleagues in DC are getting wobbly. And the protestors at home aren't making them any more courageous.
And now the House Leadership is pushing Obamacare Lite, keeping many of the taxes and mandates in place
That's unacceptable. They need to hear from you today.
And I need you to help me spread the word with your voice today.
So sign up now. Let me show them our numbers and our determination.
Let's REPEAL and REPLACE OBAMACARE, together.

In Liberty,
Rand Paul"

"One anti-Trump organiser, Dan Nejfelt of the George Soros-funded faux Catholic group, Faith in Public Life (FPL), serves as a case study of how a modern-day “community organiser” is made and paid. As the training director of FPL, he previously served as the “policy and messaging adviser” to the chair of President Obama’s Advisory Council on Faith-based and Neighborhood Partnerships.

Faith in Public Life was exposed in documents obtained and released by DCLeaks as a conduit for Soros money designed to move the Catholic Church in a left-wing direction. The “We Stand with Pope Francis” on climate change ad was an example of what this group did in 2016. The pope has been critical of capitalism, embraced the “climate change” agenda of deindustrialisation, and opposed strong measures to assure border security for the United States.FPL has informed its members in recent emails that President Trump’s new executive order “banning refugees from Muslim-majority countries” will have to be countered in the media."

"LONGTIME Donald Trump confidante, Republican operative and serial hat-wearer Roger Stone claims he is the target of a sinister plot to silence him ahead of next week’s Congressional investigations into the Russian hacking scandal.
Mr Stone made a series of sensational claims overnight after allegedly being involved in a hit-and-run on his way to Orlando to promote his latest book on the US President.
The controversial former Trump adviser told popular conspiracy theorist and Infowars host Alex Jones that his car was “T-boned” by “deep state” actors on Wednesday morning in an attempt to assassinate him before he could testify at the hearings, which start on Monday.
“They have poisoned me, they have smeared me, and someone in a car tried to kill me,” Mr Stone told Jones via satellite during an appearance on the show shortly after the incident.
“I am a consistent critic of the ‘deep state’— that’s why I think I’m targeted.”
The term “deep state” derives from the Turkish derin devlet which refers to a secret network of intelligence and military officers who worked with civilian allies to preserve the secular order established in 1923 by post-Ottoman Turkey.
In the US, “deep state” is viewed by many as a conspiracy theory alluding to a clandestine coalition of security forces (CIA, FBI), influential financial institutions and identities (like George Soros) and more recently, Obama administration figures, working together to undermine President Trump."

Steve Bannon vs. the Tea Party Libertarians [podcast]

Post by Joel »

In American politics, "when it really looks like we're forever going to be in X, that's a pretty good sign to start betting on Y," says Reason's Matt Welch. After a period of wall-building and anti-immigrant fervor, in which "more people die in the desert," we can expect that the political pendulum will swing way back in the opposite direction.

On today's podcast, Nick Gillespie, Katherine Mangu-Ward, and Welch discuss Trump and immigration in the context of Robert Draper's masterful New York Times Magazine story on Steve Bannon, in which the presidential adviser slimes libertarians for "not living in the real world." The Reason crew also talks about what do about "the giant loogie" hanging off Paul Ryan's face after the collapse of the GOP's health care bill and the Speaker's failure to live up to the title of "wonk king;" whether the coming push for tax reform will go any better than the health care debacle; and the Associated Press' controversial decision to permit journalists to use "they" as a single, gender-neutral pronoun. Is it language evolution or devolution? What would rap super-producer DJ Khaled—famous for invoking the phrase they don't want you to...—think?

To wrap things up, Katherine Mangu-Ward explains the genesis of Reason magazine's buzz-generating new punctured-wall cover. Need to know how to import marijuana from Mexico via catapult?

Do Republicans Even WANT to Repeal Obamacare?

Post by Joel »

It’s the 75th day that the Republicans have failed to repeal Obamacare. Outside a small number in the Freedom Caucus, do they really even want to? Mike Maharrey and Michael Boldin talk about this, plus some reports from the nullification movement in the state

"The Supreme Court’s pro-same-sex marriage decision is having far-reaching implications. Not only are people of the same sex having their marriages legitimized, but anyone who opposes same-sex marriages can be severely punished as has happened in a number of high-profile cases. Not only are people being discriminated against in their personal beliefs and businesses, but taxpayers are being required to pay for “same-sex” marital benefits. Whatever happened to the claim that same-sex marriage will not affect people who oppose it?
I’ll let my good friend Dr. Stephen F. Hotze explain what’s going on:
Today [March 1, 2017], in a historic lawsuit, Pidgeon v Parker, the “Same-Sex” benefits case, attorneys for the plaintiffs appeared before the Texas Supreme Court this morning, representing Houston taxpayers, Pastor Jack Pidgeon and Larry Hicks, who are plaintiffs against the mayor of the City of Houston. The plaintiff attorneys argued that Houston taxpayers cannot be required to pay for “same-sex” marital benefits. Just because the U.S. Supreme Court wrongly granted the right to marry to homosexuals, society is not required to fund their insurance and other benefits.
The justices seemed very engaged in this case which was indicated by their insightful questioning of the attorneys on both sides of the case. The justices appear to appreciate the significance of their pending opinion.
The lead attorney for the plaintiffs in this case is Jared Woodfill, President of Conservative Republicans of Texas PAC and Editor-in-Chief of CRTX News. Jonathan Saenz, President of Texas Values, serves as co-counsel. Appellate attorney, Jonathan Mitchell, presented the arguments before the Texas Supreme Court today. Mitchell is a visiting professor at Stanford Law School. He previously clerked for the late U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia and served as Solicitor General for the Texas Attorney General’s office for 4 years under then Attorney General, Greg Abbott.

China Asks All Citizens To Return From NK And Come Back To China
BY KIM SMITH
ON MAY 4, 2017

"In an unheard-of move, the Chinese Embassy in North Korea urged Korean-Chinese residents to return home over rising tensions between the the North and the United States.
The Korea Times, a major English-language newspaper based in Seoul, South Korea, reported that the embassy sent the message on April 20, which happened to be five days before North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un celebrated the 85th anniversary of the Korean People’s Army in his capital of Pyongyang.
A Korean-Chinese resident from the North told The Times he left for China late last month after receiving the notice.
“The embassy has never given such a warning. I was worried and left the country in a hurry,” said the man, whose identity was withheld.
The news outlet also reported that the man said many Korean-Chinese residents of Pyongyang were not taking the message seriously, saying the city’s “peaceful” atmosphere might lull them into a false sense of security.
The embassy’s warning is an indication that China is worried about what could happen if North Korean dictator Kim Jong-Un does something to trigger a reaction from the U.S. military, which is keeping a close eye on the North’s movements.
China is also watching the rogue nation.
Last week, U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson told Fox News that China had threatened Pyongyang with sanctions if the the North continued to conduct nuclear tests.
He said that the U.S. knew that China communicated with the Kim’s regime.
“They confirmed to us that they had requested the regime conduct no further nuclear test,” he added.
The North has repeatedly ignored warnings from China, and the U.S. for that matter, regarding its nuclear weapons program and missile tests, which are seen as provocations by neighboring countries.
The Chinese warning illustrates how communications appear to be failing, leading the nation to prepare for the worst."

"In his first interview since being dismissed from Fox News in April, the network’s former prime time host Bill O’Reilly spoke out about the reason behind his firing — far-left wing activists.

“Look, this was a hit,” O’Reilly told radio host Glenn Beck — who was also a victim of liberal bias and advertising boycotts while working for Fox News — in the Friday interview on TheBlaze, according to The Daily Caller.

O’Reilly then strongly suggested that he was not going to take the unfair targeting lying down, explaining that there were plans in place to expose the “far left” and “the organized left-wing cabal” for “destroying voices” they disagreed with."

"On May 15th, Hillsdale College launched “Introduction to the Constitution.” This free online course is presented in a groundbreaking new style that immerses you in the Hillsdale classroom experience. Each lesson is less than 15 minutes long. Find yourself at the table with Dr. Larry Arnn, as he teaches his students the principles of liberty. Peer into the lively discussions that take place as students explore the implications and beauty of our Constitution.

The U.S. Constitution is the key to securing liberty for all Americans -- yet few know exactly what it says, and what freedoms it protects. That is why every student of Hillsdale College is required to study this document before graduation.

Join us in this course as we revisit the words of our founding fathers and rediscover the principles of liberty. As always, Hillsdale offers this course for no charge—completely free—as part of our mission to help all Americans pursue truth and defend liberty."
