"President-elect Donald Trump said Monday he is appointing son-in-law Jared Kushner as a White House senior adviser.
“Jared has been a tremendous asset and trusted adviser throughout the campaign and transition and I am proud to have him in a key leadership role in my administration,” Trump said in a statement. “He has been incredibly successful, in both business and now politics."
While not mentioning that he is his son-in-law, Trump described Kushner as "a widely respected businessman and real estate developer was instrumental in formulating and executing the strategy behind President-elect Trump's historic victory in November."
Calling the appointment an "honour," Kushner said in a statement he is "energized by the shared passion of the President-elect and the American people."
Aides said the husband of Ivanka Trump is working to wrap up his own business affairs in preparation for a move to Washington.
Kushner "is spending a lot of money on lawyers and compliance lawyers and has a real interest in bringing what has been tremendous business acumen and political instincts during the campaign into the White House as a senior adviser to his father-in-law the president," incoming presidential counselor Kellyanne Conway told USA TODAY.
Kushner will not take a salary, Trump said."

"Mr Trump said Russia has “never tried to use leverage” over him and he has “no deals, no loans, no nothing” with the country.
He asked “Are we living in Nazi Germany” and slammed “crooked opponents” for trying to belittle him with “fake news”.
Earlier, President Putin’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the dossier, which claimed Trump had engaged in lewd sexual acts in Moscow, was “complete fabrication and utter nonsense.”
“This is an evident attempt to harm our bilateral ties,” he said, adding that it was “pulp fiction” and a “clear attempt to damage relations”.
Mr Peskov said it should be treated with “humour” but that there was a sad side that could harm relations between the countries.
“There are people who are whipping up this frenzy, who are doing their best to keep this witch hunt going,” he said."

I just wanted to re-post the full PresidentTrump press conference here on the Trump thread (also posted here: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=9823&start=3480#p760912" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ).
A wonderful performance by Trump. I can't tell you how refreshing it is for me and I'm sure, many, many others,to hear this kind of unscripted, straight-forward, no holds barred performance by a President.

In this video, you really don't hear the extremely disruptive, rude CNN reported trying to make more hay about the scurrilous anti-Trump slander promulgated by BuzzFeed and picked up and amplified by CNN. Trump properly put the guy right in his place, and called a spade-a-spade: CNN = Fake news and liars.

Wonderful!

Now that Obama has funded a ministry of propaganda, people should be wondering more often if the US government is behind any "fake news" in the future.

"In keeping with tradition, the First Presidency will send two Apostles to attend the presidential inauguration on January 20. Elder D. Todd Christofferson and Elder Gary E. Stevenson will represent The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, continuing "a tradition, going back more than a century, of Mormon leadership supporting and celebrating the process that makes possible the peaceful transfer of power," according to Mormon Newsroom.

Since the early 1900s, the First Presidency or a member of the Quorum of the Twelve have attended the inaugurations of presidents, beginning with Theodore Roosevelt in 1905.

In addition to the inauguration, Elder D. Todd Christofferson will attend the National Prayer Service at the Washington National Cathedral on January 21.

“A presidential inauguration is a civic ceremony that transcends the person being inaugurated,” Elder Christofferson told Mormon Newsroom. “It is an act of state, not of politics. Its primary purpose is for the president-elect to take the constitutionally required oath of office, and for the people by witnessing it to bind him to that oath. It is a time to reaffirm collectively the enduring principles that have sustained this country for over 200 years, including the peaceful transfer of power, which remains a remarkable event even in this modern world.”

"Our desire as The Piano Guys has always been to spread hope, love, and joy through our music and videos," The Piano Guys shared on Facebook after they announced they accepted the invitation to play at the presidential inauguration January 20.

"We accepted the invitation to perform at the Inauguration with this objective in mind. We would have been honored at the opportunity no matter who was being sworn in. We strive to make all vital decisions a matter of serious soul searching and prayer. We felt very strongly that we needed to accept this invitation.”

"If you’re a leftist and you want to cause trouble on Inauguration Day, Bikers for Trump would like you to know that you’re going to have to go through a “wall of meat” to do it.In an appearance on “Fox & Friends” on Saturday, Chris Cox — the leader of the Bikers for Trump group — announced that his 5,000-strong contingent of bikers at the inauguration will protect Trump supporters from liberal protesters who get too rowdy“In the event that we are needed, we will form a wall of meat,” Cox said. “We’ll be shoulder to shoulder with our brothers, and we’ll be toe-to-toe with anyone who’s going to break through police barriers.”According to Fox News, Cox’s group has grown from just 100 riders when it started back in Virginia Beach in October, 2015, to over 200,000 members now. They plan on being one of the biggest pro-Trump contingents at the inauguration — which is good, considering they say on their Facebook page that most of the permits have gone to the anti-Trump crowd.

“We have the only pro-Trump permits for the inauguration,” a post from November reads. “Anti-Trump groups have gobbled up all other areas and are actively preparing and advertising for people to join their effort to cause chaos and mayhem. Remember the Bikers For Trump standing toe to toe against (Black Lives Matter) and shoulder to shoulder with law-enforcement at the RNC in Cleveland, Ohio.”Bikers for Trump won’t just be there to form a “wall of meat,” either. The group plans to honor veterans during an event at John Marshall Park, held during lunch recess on Inauguration Day. Given the number of liberals who have said they want to disrupt the inauguration day ceremonies — often violently — what Bikers for Trump is doing is absolutely necessary. We hope that as many people can turn out as possible to help protect against the possibility of riots from the left."

"Former President George H.W. Bush wanted to be clear that there was no ill will keeping him from attending Donald Trump's inauguration on Friday.

The 92-year-old had decided to stay home weeks ago because of his advanced age and poor health. Bush is the only former president who will miss the ceremony. His son George W. Bush, Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter are all expected to attend along with their wives.

The elder Bush was admitted to the hospital over the weekend and sent to the intensive care unit at Houston Methodist Hospital in Texas on Wednesday as he battles pneumonia. His wife, Barbara, was also admitted to the hospital "as a precaution" because of fatigue and coughing, her husband's office said.

A week earlier, Bush had written to Trump to express his regret and good wishes. "

"Donald Trump took the oath of office Friday as the 45th president of the United States, pledging to embark on “a great national effort to rebuild our country and restore its promise for all of our people.”
Addressing a large crowd assembled on the National Mall and millions more watching on television, Trump vowed to deliver on his promise to take on the establishment in Washington and deliver results for Americans forgotten by their leaders.
“We are transferring power from Washington, D.C., and giving it back to you, the people,” he said.
Trump painted a bleak picture of a nation in crisis, plagued by “American carnage” caused by crime at home and the threat of terrorism from abroad.
But he sought to rally the country behind his “America first” vision, which he promised would jolt the economy and improve America’s standing in the world.
“From this moment on, it’s going to be America first,” he said. “I will fight for you with every breath in my body, and I will never, ever let you down. America will start winning again, winning like never before.”
Trump spoke after Chief Justice John Roberts administered the 35-word oath of office, which the new president recited holding his hand on top of his childhood bible and one President Lincoln used at his first inauguration.
The moment capped off a journey to the White House many never dreamed to be possible.
The reality TV star and real-estate magnate surprised many in the summer of 2015 when he rode down a golden escalator at his Manhattan high-rise to announce he was jumping into the presidential race.
He went on to stun the nation by defeating his 16 Republican primary opponents, then shocked the world by pulling off an upset of Democratic opponent Hillary Clinton.
Most believed Trump’s campaign would be derailed by his inflammatory comments and lack of traditional political organization.
But he rose to power by presenting himself as an outsider with the ability to shake up the Washington establishment that many voters say have failed the country.
His Friday afternoon speech echoed many of the themes of his campaign, down to his recitation of his slogan to “Make America Great Again.”
Trump now faces the difficult task of uniting a country that is deeply divided over his presidency.
His approval rating was no higher than 44 percent in a series of polls released in the lead up to his inauguration.
Those divisions were on display in downtown Washington, where police used pepper spray to quell violent protests against Trump.
Demonstrators smashed windows at businesses and vandalised bus stops and newspaper stands."

"Just after Vice President Mike Pence took the vice presidential oath of office using the Reagan family Bible, the Mormon Tabernacle Choir performed this inspiring rendition of "America the Beautiful," accompanied by the United States Marine Band known as The President's Own.

Their performance came right before President Donald Trump took the presidential oath of office and delivered his inaugural address."

"US President Donald Trump has opened his first full day in the job at a national prayer service, a tradition for all new presidents.
Trump and his wife, Melania, and Vice President Mike Pence and his wife, Karen, sat in a front pew at Washington National Cathedral for the morning service after a day of pomp, pageantry and protests that accompanied his inauguration the day before.
Trump had no speaking role at the service.
Bishop Harry Jackson asked God to grant the president, vice president and Cabinet members "wisdom and grace in the exercise of their duties."
Jackson also asked that Trump and Pence "serve all people of this nation and promote the dignity and freedom of every person."
Trump shook hands with guests who attended the invitation-only church service as he departed.
The service included readings and prayers from Protestant, Jewish, Sikh, Mormon, Buddhist, Roman Catholic, Baha'i, Episcopal, Hindu and Native American leaders.
But the program was remarkable for the large number of evangelicals participating, including two former presidents of the Southern Baptist Convention, the country's largest evangelical denomination.
After church, Trump went to the CIA headquarters for a meeting with intelligence agency workers, whom he has sharply criticised over their conclusions that Russia interfered in the 2016 election on his behalf.
Meanwhile, Trump, his wife, children and grandchildren spent Friday night at the White House."
