Oregon militia stand their ground but local residents want 'these thugs' gone

Saturday 9 January 2016 14.54 EST
Last modified on Saturday 9 January 2016 15.01 EST

What will happen if the Oregon militia gets its demands?

Melissa Cooper doesn’t know when she will see her three children again. The 37-year-old Arizona warehouse worker said goodbye to her kids 10 days ago and for the last week has been stationed full-time inside a federal building in a remote part of the high desert of southeastern Oregon – hundreds of miles from home. Cooper is one of the few female members of an armed militia that forced their way into the headquarters of a national wildlife refuge last Saturday, taking over a number of government buildings for an indefinite occupation.

“It’s hard being away from the children. They want mom and dad,” said Cooper, whose husband Blaine is a high-profile member of the militia. But as she sorted piles of donated food and supplies on Friday, Cooper, who was unarmed, admitted that it could be awhile before she reunites with her 17-year-old son and two daughters, ages eight and nine. “We will be here as long as it takes.”

Cooper and several dozen other protesters say they are standing up for land-use rights and fighting the federal government over oppressive regulations that hurt ranchers. The militia has trespassed on a number of federal properties

Fracking shakes the American west: ‘a millennium’s worth of earthquakes’

Seismologists’ warnings about hydraulic fracturing and wastewater disposal divide residents, politicians and companies in Colorado and Oklahoma, while temblors increase around the region

Increasingly tied to tremors shaking the west, fracking for natural gas is creating alarm and division around western states that until recently enjoyed a boom in jobs and revenue.

In Oklahoma, seismologists have warned that significant temblors last week could signal a larger, more dangerous earthquake to come in a state where drilling is destabilizing the bedrock.

Last Wednesday night two earthquakes, measuring 4.7 and 4.8 on the Richter scale, struck rural northern Oklahoma, beneath a major oil and gas producing area. The state historically experiences two shakes a year registering above level three.

According to the National Earthquake Information Center (NEIC), which is based in Colorado, in 2014 Oklahoma experienced 585 such quakes. In 2015 there were 842.

“That’s almost a millennium’s worth of earthquakes in two years,” George Choy, a seismologist at the center, told the Guardian on Friday. “When you see that you suspect something is going on.”

Choy added: “Even a magnitude four in the right place could cause great damage. The industry in Oklahoma is producing a tremendous amount of wastewater, more than 200 million barrels a month, which is on the way to a trillion a year.

yes our taxes funded these military officers at Fort Benning

Twelve of the Eighteen Former Military Arrested in Guatemala are SOA graduates

Last week, eighteen former military officials were arrested on charges of genocide and crimes against humanity in one of the largest mass arrests of military officers Latin America has ever seen. Twelve of them were trained at the SOA. The arrests happened one week before the January 14th inauguration of newly elected President Jimmy Morales, of the National Convergence Front (FCN).

Morales, whose party has close ties to the military, faces pressure in the face of the current developments. Morales' right hand man, Edgar Justino Ovalle Maldonado, who is also the FCN party co-founder, newly elected congressman, and retired colonel, is also facing similar charges, though he was not arrested because of his immunity as a congressman. Guatemala's Attorney General, however, has requested the Supreme Court look at the case to strip him of his immunity. Ovalle Maldonado, who is also an SOA graduate, is linked to massacres and disappearances during the 1980's.

The officers arrested last week are (see below for a list of notorious SOA graduates among those recently arrested):

Ismael Segura Abularach (SOA, 1976)
Pablo Roberto Saucedo Mérida (SOA, 1970)
César Augusto Ruiz Morales (SOA, 1970)
Manuel Antonio Callejas Callejas (SOA, 1962 & 1970)
Colonel Fransisco Luis Gordillo Martínez (SOA, 1961)
Carlos Humberto López Rodríguez (SOA, 1970)
Edilberto Letona Linares (SOA; 1970)
José Antonio Vásquez García (SOA, 1970)
Manuel Benedicto Lucas García (SOA, 1965)
Carlos Augusto Garavito Morán (SOA, 1984)
Luis Alberto Paredes Nájera (SOA, 1960)
César Augusto Cabrera Mejía (SOA, 1967)
Juan Ovalle Salazar
Gustavo Alonzo Rosales García
Hugo Ramiro Zaldaña Rojas
Raul Dahesa Oliva
Edgar Rolando Hernández Méndez

The arrests are linked to two cases in particular, both of which have gone before the Inter-American Court of Human Rights. The first case concerns the operations that occurred at the military base in Cobán. In 2012, exhumations by forensic anthropologists led to the uncovering of at least 550 victims disappeared between 1981 and 1988. The second is for the disappearance of Marco Antonio Molina Theissen, a 14-year-old boy disappeared by the G-2 military intelligence forces on October 6, 1981.

Read more about the operations in Cobán:
http://www.cipamericas.org/archives/18204" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

A pretrial held before a District Court this week in the case of the disappearance of Marco Antonio determined that four of the former military officers accused - three of whom are SOA graduates - will go to trial, facing charges of forced disappearance and crimes against humanity. The retired officers - Fransisco Luis Gordillo Martínez, Edilberto Letona Linares, Hugo Ramiro Zaldaña Rojas, and Manuel Antonio Callejas Callejas - remain in custody pending ongoing investigations by the public prosecutors.

It remains to be seen if newly sworn-in Morales, whose party is backed by the darkest structures of the Guatemalan military, will allow for these cases to run their course. The struggle for justice in Guatemala is still as much a challenge today as it was in the past. Given the recent mass mobilizations that brought down the former President and SOA-graduate Otto Pérez Molina and his Vice-President Roxana Baldetti, Morales faces a citizenry that has lost much of the fear that created a culture of silence. In a recent National Catholic Reporter article, Fr. Roy Bourgeois stated that "there will never be any justice or reconciliation until there is accountability and the perpetrators start going to prison". The people of Guatemala are hungry for justice, and they have memory on their side.

LESSONS FOR THE U.S.

History has shown us that we cannot count on the government to hold itself accountable. We know from experience that the power we need to makes the changes we so desperately need will come from us, the grassroots. Vice-President Biden, who attended President Morales' inauguration, also had a meeting with the northern triangle Presidents yesterday regarding the ill-named Alliance for Prosperity, which supposedly addresses the root causes of migration. This conversation comes at the same time that ICE is carrying out raids and deporting Central American refugees that have fled US-sponsored state violence. Instead of actually addressing the root causes of migration by changing its destructive foreign policy in Central America, the U.S. continues to create the conditions that make people flee their home countries through violence and economic exploitation. This was the case during the dirty wars of the 1980's, and unfortunately it is the case now.

There is no question that there was absolute complicity by the U.S. during the 36-year-long armed conflict that marked Guatemala for generations to come. For Guatemalans, this is a decades-long struggle to break down the wall of impunity and the culture of silence and fear, and the steps being taken by survivors to bring cases forward have been nothing short of brave and courageous. For the U.S., what has unraveled over the past few days serves as a sobering reminder that the U.S. fully backed - covertly, directly and indirectly - the Guatemalan military through training, fund ...

Shrimp Boy’ Lawyer Claims Judge Shielded San Francisco Mayor in Corruption Probe

— Jan 25 2016 - 11:09pm

The lead attorney for Raymond “Shrimp Boy” Chow, the reputed Chinatown gangster who was convicted of murder and a long list of other crimes two weeks ago, is now alleging that a federal trial judge failed to disclose a conflict of interest, and that he downplayed evidence implicating Mayor Ed Lee in a sprawling public corruption investigation.

In a long-shot bid to overturn Chow’s conviction, lawyer Curtis L. Briggs accused U.S. District Court Judge Charles Breyer of acting out of bias by withholding documents and secret recordings of the mayor from court while presiding over the trial last year.

In a petition filed late Saturday, Briggs wrote that Breyer had an undisclosed conflict of interest because his wife leads a nonprofit organization, City Arts and Lectures, that received grants from a city fund under the mayor’s influence. Briggs asked the judge to step aside, and said his client deserved a new trial.

Starting around 2011, the FBI conducted a wide-ranging undercover corruption investigation that involved at least 10 local public officials in addition to Chinatown figures who federal prosecutors say ran a criminal enterprise headed by Chow. Last Friday the probe resulted in indictments for bribery and money laundering of two city staffers who also worked on Lee’s 2011 campaign, plus a former school board president.

Briggs complained in the nine-page “preliminary and summary request,” provided over the weekend to the San Francisco Public Press, that Breyer repeatedly shut down his attempts to widen the scope of the Chow trial by showing that his client was being unfairly targeted in the context of a much larger scandal.

“Judge Breyer was under a duty to evaluate potential conflicts of interest and he failed to identify that his spouse was the director of a corporation that received an annual grant of nearly $50,000 directly from the Mayor’s budgetary allowance for the arts, during the time frame in question up until the present,” Briggs wrote.

Since Lee became mayor in 2011, Grants for the Arts, a city-run agency, gave City Arts and Lectures more than $200,000 in grants. But for many years and under several mayors, the group has been among the smaller recipients of money originating from the Hotel Tax Fund. Last fiscal year Grants for the Arts gave out $10.3 million to 213 organizations.

The brief never named Breyer’s wife — Sydney Goldstein, City Arts and Lectures’ founding executive director — nor did it accuse her of any wrongdoing. But the personal nature of the attack on the judge is certain to get his attention. Goldstein was traveling Monday and was unavailable for comment, an assistant said. A representative of Breyer’s office said the judge would not comment on the brief.

In response to news about the filing, mayoral spokeswoman Christine Falvey repeated a broad statement that said the mayor had no knowledge of the bribes or campaign finance violations alleged to have been conducted to his benefit. Years after the investigation started, the mayor has not been charged with any crimes.
CLAIM OF CONFLICT

Briggs wrote that as a result of his wife’s position as a recipient of city funds through a department controlled by Lee, Breyer had an unavoidable conflict of interest and was incapable of presiding over the case against Chow without bias. Breyer’s failure to declare this conflict calls into question the government’s resounding victory on Jan. 8, a jury trial that saw Chow convicted of all 162 counts, including conspiracy to commit murder, racketeering and money laundering.

“It should be noted that many public accusations were made against Mayor Ed Lee for his fundraising and alleged money laundering activities in support of his election bid for the 2012 mayoral term” Briggs wrote. “Although the public was not aware of the investigation leading up to this indictment, it would be difficult to believe that the Court was not aware of the corruption allegations against Ed Lee that were subject of media headlines and ongoing public discourse.”

Stanford law professor Robert Weisberg said Briggs’s combatively worded filing was a desperate effort to appeal his client’s conviction, and that his claims of bias were “pretty far fetched.”

“The main thing is a legal matter,” Weisberg said, “If you don’t have an unbelievably obvious conflict of interest — which this is not — you have to demonstrate that it actually manifested itself in some way.” He said that technically, any conflict of interest would exist for Breyer’s wife and not the judge himself, a subtle but important distinction. Weisberg said that overall Chow and his attorneys “don’t have very good issues on appeal,” and the conviction would likely be upheld.

It has been widely noted that much like his big-mouthed and charismatic client, Briggs displayed an irreverent swagger when litigating on behalf of Chow. At one point in the trial last fall, Briggs wrote that federal investigators used drones to watch his clients (the FBI denied this) and that the still-sealed evidence may have been burgled.

In a gambit to widen the case, in August Briggs released documents containing details of the probe seeming to implicate City Hall insiders in allowing undercover agents to make political donations that skirted local campaign finance laws because they exceeded the $500 individual giving limit. The leak defied the wishes of Judge Breyer, who quickly issued strict court seals on all the records. One of the files still under wraps is likely a recording of a conversation between Lee and an undercover FBI investigator who was offering the donations. But Breyer said none of the files implicated the mayor himself in any wrongdoing.

Briggs noted in the court filing that the judge’s brother, U.S. Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer, did declare a conflict of interest in a recent case that had many parallels. “In 2015, Justice Breyer overlooked the fact that his wife owned stock in a company that was a party to a controversy which Breyer participated in adjudicating.” The justice resolved the conflict when his wife divested herself from the investment.

This was not the only effort by Chow’s defense team to retry the case in and out of court. On Sunday, KTVU Channel 2 News aired a jailhouse interview with Chow, who told reporter Amber Lee that he was innocent of all charges. “You can’t find a worse scapegoat than me,” Chow said. “My past record gets the whole Chinatown sheen. Every time there’s been trouble, yeah, everyone wants to point the finger at me.”
LOCAL INDICTMENTS

The accusations made by Chow’s legal team came the day after District Attorney George Gascón generated headlines by issuing three corruption-related indictments, based largely on evidence collected during the FBI’s investigation into Chow and now-imprisoned state Senator Leland Yee.

Lee’s office has consistently accused Briggs and his colleagues of a futile effort to deflect focus from Chow’s misdeeds. But last week’s charges now offer a glimpse of possible improper back-room deals in City Hall.

“This lightweight prosecution that focused on my client is an endless sea of garbage that they didn’t dig through and look at the facts,” Briggs said in an interview. “To charge only Chow in the context of widespread political corruption and favoritism is more than disgusting.”

His protests mostly fell on deaf ears until this week. “People blew them off,” Briggs said, “but lo and behold, it’s actually true.”

The new charges from the district attorney focus on former Human Rights Commissioner Nazly Mohajer and former staffer Zula Jones. Each is accused of four counts of bribery and one of money laundering. Former San Francisco Unified School Board President Keith Jackson faces four counts of bribery, one of money laundering and one of grand theft of public money.

At a press conference Friday, the district attorney offered no details, taking questions from reporters but said he could not answer them because of a court-imposed protection order. On Monday, Mohajer, Jones and Jackson all turned themselves in and were booked into the county jail, though their arraignment dates have not been set, the San Francisco Examiner reported.

The case from which the charges emerged was one of the largest federal probes into public corruption in recent memory, which began sometime before 2011 and is now being called as an ongoing federal case.

Briggs said the applications for wiretaps in the case, which Breyer approved, included FBI affidavits claiming that Lee’s staff accepted more than $20,000 in illegal campaign donations. The lawyer said this demonstrated Lee’s participation in a scheme “facilitating preferential treatment on real estate opportunities in San Francisco.”

But details about last week’s indictments remained scarce. Much of what the public learned about the Jac

Trump is somebody who must win every time, even if it’s an argument with a nobody on the Internet.

In two days, Iowa voters will either make Trump a big winner on the road to the White House — or send him a first stinging defeat. And there is no telling how he will deal with that.

For the past week, we have exposed many facets of Donald Trump, but we have saved the best for last. Toward the end of this documentary, one journalist makes a prediction about where Trump will end up — and right now, with him leading the polls, it sounds awfully prescient.

“The only end to this road is the ultimate madness,” said Graydon Carter, the editor of SPY Magazine,a quarter century ago.

Carter predicted back then that Trump might end up “living alone in an apartment complex in Panama and growing his fingernails long and storing urine in mason jars. It’s that or taking over the world — one or the other.”

The following video is part of a documentary on Trump that was made a quarter century ago but never released.

The film has a gritty tabloid quality — and is, by definition, a period piece. While some “chapters” will be more explosive or longer than others, what the documentary reveals about Trump’s character and manner of operating is more relevant than ever. We dare you to watch this and say that, like Trump, you already “knew it all.”

From now until the first votes are cast in Iowa, we will stream “chapters” of it here.

This is Part 12 of 12

Part 1 is available here.

Part 2 is available here.

Part 3 is available here.

Part 4 is available here.

"This Court has never held that the Constitution forbids the execution of a convicted defendant who has had a full and fair trial but is later able to convince a habeas court that he is 'actually' innocent," Scalia wrote in a 2009 dissent of the Court's order for a federal trial court in Georgia to consider the case of death row inmate Troy Davis. "Quite to the contrary, we have repeatedly left that question unresolved, while expressing considerable doubt that any claim based on alleged 'actual innocence' is constitutionally cognizable."

Today, a major step was taken to protect whistleblowers and create
accountability in the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

The Senate Judiciary Committee just unanimously voted to approve the
FBI Whistleblower Protection Enhancement Act. Now it will advance to
the full Senate for a vote.

The FBI retaliated against whistleblower Jane Turner, who reported
theft from Ground Zero and the victims of the 9/11 attacks by FBI
agents. The current system failed to protect Turner, and she had to
fight for over 15 years for justice. Turner made the following
statement about the need for these reforms.

"My honest, and trusting use of the OARM system set up for
whistleblowers was a failure, and resulted in a lesson to all other
FBI whistleblowers that their struggle to tell the truth is being
thwarted at all levels. Unless they are prepared to spend fifteen
years of their lives seeking exoneration, and ultimately, find no
justice, whistleblowers will remain outside of the system, unwilling
to come forward. This is why I am writing this letter to support your
efforts to reform non-existent protections. The FBI Whistleblower
Protection Enhancement Act (WPEA) is critical and, if any case
demonstrates why it is critical my battle certainly sets the
prevailing reason."

Turner wasn't the only FBI whistleblower that the current system
failed to protect. A recent Government Accountability Office report
found that the FBI's whistleblower protection system failed to
guarantee basic due process rights and took an unacceptably long time
to review cases. FBI whistleblowers have exposed illegal surveillance
operations, systemic weaknesses in the counterterrorism program, civil
rights abuses, and the FBI's role in numerous wrongful convictions of
innocent Americans.

We need whistleblowers like Turner to stand on the front line to
protect American civil liberties and uphold the rule of law.

We need your help now. Urge your Representatives to vote for this
urgent reform! [

------------------------------------------------------------

8pm
(ET)/5pm (PT) Teleconference # 1-218-895-6835 Access code:
9112001#

Greetings all,
We're excited to announce that British filmmaker Tony Rooke plans to
join us for Wednesday's teleconference to discuss his recent film
Incontrovertible. This 9/11 truth video is uniquely scripted to appeal
directly to first responders, such as police, firemen and other local
emergency professionals. (The film can be viewed in its entirety at
its website
(http://houston911truth.us5.list-manage. ... 91763ac879" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;)
). Jonathan Mark will give us a detailed summary of his local effort,
here in the US, to use this film as a vehicle for disseminating 9/11
truth to local first responders, a possible templat e for other local
9/11 truth groups.

Two contributors to the recently published book And Nobody Died in
Boston Either, edited by Jim Fetzer, are no strangers to our
Teleconference. Craig McKee and Sheila Casey will give us a brief
overview of this book, together with a more detailed account of the
chapter contributed by each of them.

I'll follow up with brief review of Lance deHaven-Smith's Conspiracy
Theory in America, and propose it as a group-reading exercise for a
future book discussion, given its useful theoretical and historical
approach to reframing false-flag operations and other Deep State
events as "state crimes against democracy."

We'll hear from Lynn Bradbury and others about a recent contretemps in
the 28 pages campaign, and close with an analysis of the CITGO
security cameras by Wayne Coste, PE. Wayne has provided this pdf file
(http://houston911truth.us5.list-manage2 ... 91763ac879" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;)
for the reference of participants.

We hope many of you will be able to join us for this informative
teleconference.

Peace,

Ken Freeland

Dear Loyal Friends and Supporters ~

This Friday marks the second anniversary of the loss of a slighted
great American, whose vision was never fully appreciated or understood
during his lifetime.

Our beloved friend and mentor, John Judge, passed away on April 15,
2014, but his spirit is still with us every day. We think of him
whenever we read about the corrosive effects of the permanent war
economy, the earnest aspirations of ordinary people for social
justice, or the powerful hidden government that operates in the
shadows all around us.

As recently as last Sunday, John's investigation into government
subterfuge surrounding 9/11 was reflected on TV's 60 Minutes.
Congressmen reflected certainty that John was right about an
orchestrated cover-up.

John was indeed our conscience. He would have heartily approved of
Michael Moore's new movie, "Where to Invade Next," which indicts the
U.S. economic, political and educational systems and their focus on
competition rather than cooperation. Similarly, John railed against a
punitive country which has 5% of the world's population and yet has
created a sickening industry that incarcerates 20% of the world's
prison population.

In John's honor, we have established the Hidden History Center to
house his book and document collection, and to carry his work forward
into the future. John's scholarship and trusted work are harbingers
of historic change. His vision and diligence will be the foundation
of the Hidden History Center, as we work to ignite world-wide
collaboration (communities of interest) using the cloud, Smartphone,
social media and eventually artificial intelligence.

To accomplish these goals, we need to widely distribute John's vision
of a new future, as well as the history he so painstakingly
researched. We need an easily accessible, information-packed website,
and we need a significant social media presence. We also need to form
groups around areas of common interest. (Nowadays, groups are
amazingly easy to form!)

Our fledgling website is up and running, but it needs more development
and much more content. Check it out at
http://www.hiddenhistorycenter.org" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;<http://www.hiddenhistorycenter.org/>. Stay
in the loop. Sign up for our mailing list and indicate your area(s)
of interest.

Please let us know if you can provide content for the website, have
experience with social media, or would be interested in participating
in or leading a group. Some of the topics we expect to cover on the
website are listed below. A more complete list can be found on the
new website, along the right-hand side of the page.

Our enthusiastic team includes dedicated researchers, activists, an
archivist, a librarian, a technical and social media guru, a
world-class futurist and a top decision-maker marketer. We are
energetic and excited, but we can use your help.

Let us know if you can volunteer your time and skills. And please

TrineDay author, Judyth Vary Baker, an Eyewitness, Recently Spoke Out to Help Identify Man in Historic Photograph that is Center of Controversy about Ted Cruz’s Father Rafael.By PR Rocket on May 10, 2016
“Lee called him Rafaolo,” Eyewitness to Oswald Photo tells Publisher

Walterville, OR (PRWEB) May 10, 2016

TrineDay author, Judyth Vary Baker, an eyewitness, spoke out recently to help identify a man in a historic photograph that is the center of controversy about Ted Cruz’s father Rafael.

The April 20, 2016, National Enquirer’s claim that Rafael Cruz was with Lee Harvey Oswald in a photo taken in front of the International Trade Mart in New Orleans on August 16, 1963 stirred controversy in the Republican Presidential Primary and across the Internet. It also prompted an eyewitness to speak up. Rafael Cruz is the father of U.S. Senator Ted Cruz. Lee Harvey Oswald was later accused of assassinating President Kennedy in Dallas.

After seeing the National Enquirer article, author Judyth Vary Baker was interviewed by Kris Millegan, the publisher at TrineDay, about what she personally saw and heard that day. “I saw Rafaolo with Lee in front of the ITM. I was no more than 6 feet from him and saw him clearly, but I did not know his last name. Lee only told me his name was ‘Rafaolo,’ and that he was there to watch Lee’s back in the event there was trouble. The cover story was that Lee hired Rafaolo to help hand out FPCC flyers, but he was really there for Lee’s protection. Lee also told me that both he and Rafaolo pretended to be pro-Castro to flush out Castro sympathizers for ex-FBI agent Guy Banister,” said Judyth Vary Baker in an interview with her publisher Kris Millegan this week.

Judyth detailed her relationship with Lee Harvey Oswald in her 2010 autobiography “ME & LEE: How I came to know, love and lose Lee Harvey Oswald.” Lee and Judyth both worked at the Reily Coffee Company in New Orleans in 1963. Lee found an apartment for Judyth and helped her get her job at the coffee company. They both started working there on May 10th, and they rode the same bus to and from work together on a daily basis. By August 16th, both had been fired from Reily, but continued to see each other and to work together on a secret anti-Castro project with several New Orleans doctors. Her comments about Rafaolo are new.

“The other time I saw Rafaolo” Judyth told Millegan, “was when Lee and I were walking through Lafayette Park near Banister’s office. Lee spotted Rafaolo and said, ‘There goes Rafael the Archangel.’ That's when Lee told me that Rafaolo was one of the Cubans whose parents were still in Cuba, so Lee could not trust him because Castro might be able to pressure Rafaolo into spying by threatening his parents.”

Millegan said “We were very familiar with that photo long before the National Enquirer broke the Rafael Cruz article. It’s

SAN FRANCISCO -- Two Northern California sheriff's deputies were charged with felonies Tuesday in the beating of a suspected car thief in an incident captured on surveillance video.

San Francisco District Attorney George Gascon announced that Alameda County sheriff's deputies Luis R. Santamaria and Paul D. Wieber were each charged with assault with a deadly weapon, assault under color of authority and battery.

Two residents' surveillance cameras captured deputies continuing to beat the suspect with steel batons as he lay on the ground, crying out in pain. In addition, Gascon said one of the deputies' body-worn cameras appears to have accidentally turned on.

"I'm sorry," Stanislav Petrov could be heard screaming on one of the videos. "Help me."

Petrov, 29, was beaten with metal batons by the two deputies on a San Francisco street on Nov. 12 at the end of a car ch

Bombing of MOVE and Osage: Prosecute the killers
May 10, 2016

Police, firemen and workers search through the rubble on Osage Avenue in West Philadelphia, May 15, 1985 in the aftermath of the blaze, which destroyed 61 homes in the neighborhood. Eleven bodies were found in the rubble of the house that was occupied by members of the radical group MOVE. — AP Photo/George Widman
It was 31 years ago on May 13, 1985 at 5:20 pm that a state police helicopter took off from the command post’s flight pad at 63rd and Walnut Streets, flew a few times over 6221 Osage Avenue, and then hovered 60 feet above the two-story house in the Black middle-class residential West Philadelphia neighborhood.
Lt. Frank Powell, chief of the city’s Bomb Disposal Unit, was holding a bag containing a bomb consisting of two sticks of Tovex TR2 with C-4 added, which was concocted by fellow unit member Police Officer William Klein.
After radioing firefighters on the ground and lighting the bomb’s 45-second fuse- and with the official approval of Mayor W. Wilson Goode and at the insistence of Police Commissioner Gregore Sambor- Powell at precisely 5:28 p.m. tossed the bomb onto a bunker on the roof. This was followed shortly thereafter by a loud explosion and then a large bright orange ball of fire that reached 7,200 degrees.
As a result, he, the Mayor, the Police Commissioner, Fire Commissioner William Richmond, City Managing Director Leo Brooks, and many police officers committed, in the words of Philadelphia Special Investigation Commission (better known as the MOVE Commission) member Charles Bowser, a “criminally evil” act that led to the death of eleven human beings, including five defenseless children, the destruction of 61 homes, and the incineration of thousands of family photos, love letters, heirloom jewelry, inscribed Bibles and Korans, and many other irreplaceable mementos.
As told to me by Mr. Bowser, my mentor and author of the tell-all book entitled Let The Bunker Burn, five of the city’s most influential Black political leaders met at the Mayor’s home before dawn on May 13, 1985

Men Say Heroin-Addicted Agent Put Them in Prison

WASHINGTON (CN) — After the downfall of a heroin-addicted FBI
agent upended their drug convictions, three men now want damages from
the U.S. government.
Albert Briscoe, Merle Watson and Donald Duren say they spent
nearly two years in prison before the FBI revealed apparent misconduct
by a special agent involved in their case.
As described in their April 29 federal complaint, an ensuing
criminal investigation found that Matthew Lowry "had, on numerous
occasions, gone to the Washington Field Office's Evidence Control
Center and took seized heroin from the evidence storage facility."
To compensate for the weight of any heroin he ingested, Lowry
allegedly added a cutting substance to the evidence with which he
tampered, then returned it to the government's storehouse.
"I mean he would sign out evidence in other people's names," said
Billy Ponds, an attorney for Briscoe, Watson and Duren.
Ponds blamed the failure of the FBI Washington Field Office to
supervise the agent.
"There should've been some type of safeguard to prevent that from
happening," Ponds said.
Lowry is serving 36 months in prison after pleading guilty last
year to 64 criminal charges, including 20 counts of obstruction of
justice, 18 counts of falsification of records and

“You Are the Un-Americans, and You Ought to be Ashamed of Yourselves”:
Paul Robeson Appears Before HUAC

Many African-American witnesses subpoenaed to testify at the House
Committee on Un-American Activities (HUAC) hearings in the 1950s were
asked to denounce Paul Robeson (1888–1976) in order to obtain future
employment. Robeson, an All-American football player and recipient of
a Phi Beta Kappa key at Rutgers, received a law degree at Columbia. He
became an internationally acclaimed concert performer and actor as
well as a persuasive political speaker. In 1949, Robeson was the
subject of controversy after newspapers reports of public statements
that African Americans would not fight in “an imperialist war.” In
1950, his passport was revoked. Several years later, Robeson refused
to sign an affidavit stating that he was not a Communist and initiated
an unsuccessful lawsuit. In the following testimony to a HUAC hearing,
ostensibly convened to gain information regarding his passport suit,
Robeson refused to answer questions concerning his political
activities and lectured bigoted Committee members Gordon H. Scherer
and Chairman Francis E.Walter about African-American history and civil
rights. In 1958, the Supreme Court ruled that a citizen’s right to
travel could not be taken away without due process and Robeson’
passport was returned.

Testimony of Paul Robeson before the House Committee on Un-American
Activities, June 12, 1956

THE CHAIRMAN: The Committee will be in order. This morning the
Committee resumes its series of hearings on the vital issue of the use
of American passports as travel documents in furtherance of the
objectives of the Communist conspiracy. . . .

Mr. ARENS: Now, during the course of the process in which you were
applying for this passport, in July of 1954, were you requested to
submit a non-Communist affidavit?

Mr. ROBESON: We had a long discussion—with my counsel, who is in the
room, Mr. [Leonard B.] Boudin—with the State Department, about just
such an affidavit and I was very precise not only in the application
but with the State Department, headed by Mr. Henderson and Mr. McLeod,
that under no conditions would I think of signing any such affidavit,
that it is a complete contradiction of the rights of American

Tottering Totten and the Coming Multi-Meter Sea Level Rise
A new scientific study has found that the Totten Glacier is fundamentally unstable and could significantly contribute to a possible multi-meter sea level rise this Century under mid-range and worst case warming scenarios.

*****

408 Parts per million CO2. 490 parts per million CO2e. This is the amount of heat-trapping CO2 and total CO2 equivalent for all heat-trapping gasses now in the Earth’s atmosphere. Two measures representing numerous grave potential consequences.

We’re Locking in 120-190 Feet of Sea Level Rise Long Term

Looking at the first number — 408 parts per million CO2 — we find that the last time global levels of this potent heat-trapping gas were so high was during the Middle Miocene Climate Optimum of 15-17 million years ago. During this time, the Greenland Ice Sheet did not exist. East Antarctic glacial ice was similarly scarce. And the towering glaciers of West Antarctica were greatly reduced. Overall, global sea levels were 120 to 190 feet higher than they are today. Meanwhile, atmospheric temperatures were between 3 and 5 degrees Celsius hotter

ALEX JONES OF INFOWARS ADMITS TO CIA AND "ARMY SPECIAL FORCES" FAMILY; SUPPORTS DEATH SQUADS, DICTATORS, DRUGS, DISINFORMATION ... AND THE CNP

By: Joel v.d. Reijden | Date: Jan. 17, 2016 | Updated: Feb. 21, 2016

Why Alex Jones has made the CIA and apparent army special operations disclosures about his family, I don't know. He has been on the air for countless thousands of hours ranting about covert operations and conspiracy, so a few brief lapses in judgment on what to say and what not is all it takes to spill the beans. Then again, he may have become overconfident, because it hardly seems to matter what he says, considering only a handful of terribly designed and somewhat irrational blogs have picked up on his confessions. Anno 2016 a pair of specialized YouTube clips about his family's ties to the CIA stand at 771 and 3,550 views after well over a year now, so clearly not many people are taking notice. I doubt the Onnit podcast or this article will change that in the short run.

It appears that Jones, despite being obviously proud of his family's heritage, is well aware that these ties are terrible PR; otherwise he would have mentioned them on many other occasions and at a much earlier stage. And even today he has not provided a full account and really seems to mention a few tidbits on occasion because he can't resist a little bragging, especially after a few beers. Questions that remain include: who in the CIA was his dentist father treating? What was his uncle's true role in Guatemala? Who exactly in the Council for National Policy and American Security Council network was Jones' uncle (or father) familiar with? And: which other family members is he referring to as having been in the CIA and army special forces?

Equally important to ask is the question to what extent Jones himself should be considered the Oliver North of the conspiracy industry. Along with partner-in-crime George Noory of Coast to Coast AM, today Alex Jones occupies the most sensitive position in all of conspiracy land. Millions upon millions of people have watched his documentaries and are listening to his radio shows. I have little doubt Jones built his enterprise almost entirely by himself, but without the connections of his family I suspect a lot of people and media outlets would not have accidentally or purposely crossed paths with him, never worked with him, and never promoted him. If he would have tried to continue as a truly independent player, he would have starved to death and only had a very small audience. One of the things I notice day in day out since beginning ISGP is the endless stream of strange characters, some of them extremely well-connected right to the top of the CIA or my national government, playing mind games trying to latch themselves on to me or even my family. That's apart from a number of other anomalies, some of which have been described in the site's FAQ. No, when you dive into the conspiracy business, you'll find yourself surrounded by an army of peculiar James Bonds in the shortest time possible trying to steer you in all directions except productive or correct ones. Some oppose you, some act deranged, some appear to be spambots, some pretend to be your biggest friend, a few even donate before trying to get you to change directions, but in the end all of them feed you BS. There's no way that an independent Alex Jones wouldn't have experienced the exact same phenomenon from the second he started out his conspiracy research. And yet, he has never talked about it; only that he himself comes from a James Bond family.

The good news is that ultimately I think having someone around like Alex Jones is great for us and detrimental to the West's economic and national security elites. Why? Because there's a core of truth there that keeps inspiring and intriguing people, more so than with Coast to Coast AM, which clearly aspires to being "100% B.S." But even in case of Coast to Coast AM and even with the implementation of a North Korea-style communist dictatorship with modern NSA capabilities, I think it is inevitable that in the long run people's consciousness will grow and they will see through all the manipulation. It might take 10 years, it might take 10,000 years, but we will get there. Our consciousness will evolve along with the physical evolutionary process that has been going on for hundreds of millions of years. Jones is just another teacher along the way.
