Reincarnation a false doctrine. That a belief in reincarnation should prevail among the Latter-day Saints seems strange for there is nothing in the Gospel, as taught in the Bible, in the Book of Mormon, in the Book of Doctrine and Covenants or in the teachings of inspired men, that furnishes the least foundation for such a conception. It is true that preexistence is taught; but the pre-existence in which we believe is confined to our first estate. We are taught that our present life is our second estate, and this is a probation given unto us in which to gain experience and to be tried and purified to prepare us for our next estate. The teachings of men who have had a deep understanding concerning the purpose of our Great Creator in placing us here in this condition of existence show that this is the grand opportunity which is given to man—an opportunity which he must not fail to avail himself of as it is the only opportunity that he will have on the earth; his earthly existence is confined to one appearance in the flesh.
When a child comes forth, it possesses a tabernacle. That tabernacle is the house of its spirit, intimately associated with the spirit, separated, it is true, for a time by death, but designed to be re-united in the great hereafter. The Savior says that His disciples looked upon the long absence of their spirits from their bodies to be a bondage. . . . We are taught that all holy beings looked forward with joyful anticipation to the time when their bodies and spirits will be re-united in the resurrection. They do not look forward to reincarnation or to another birth as a baby but to the union of their spirits and their bodies—the bodies that they possessed and in which they had passed through all the trials and temptations and vicissitudes incident to a mortal career.
This is the doctrine taught in the Gospel; and the doctrine of reincarnation is utterly foreign to every principle which God has revealed in the last days to His Church. - Elder George Q. Cannon
Every once in a while believers in reincarnation spring some story about persons who have returned to earth in another body. The Prophet Joseph Smith says that reincarnation is a doctrine of the devil and have you not read that the devil would deceive even the elect? Put your time on your work and seek for the guidance of the Spirit of the Lord and forget about supernatural visions that never took place. - President Joseph Fielding Smith
It is not possible that Jesus could have meant that John was the same individual as Elijah; nor could the people have so understood His words, since the false doctrine of transmigration or reincarnation of spirits was repudiated by the Jews. - Elder James E. Talmage

I supplied the science for reincarnation in the previous post.

Early references to reincarnation in the New Testament were deleted in the 4th century by Emperor Constantine when Christianity became the official religion of the Roman Empire.

REINCARNATION AND THE BIBLE
The beliefs which form the context of both Eastern and Western reincarnationism are clearly incompatible with biblical Christianity. Thus, the case against reincarnation being "Christian" goes far beyond its implications for the afterlife, and involves much more than a few prooftexts from the Bible. Rather, the entire biblical revelation in its teaching about God, the world, man, sin, and salvation, stands as a whole against reincarnationism.

Nevertheless, adherents of reincarnation in the West invariably try to reconcile their belief with Christianity. The New Testament is said to have been written by unknown authors at a time too late to be reliable in their report of Jesus' teachings, and thus His teachings on reincarnation were largely lost. (Many people reject the Bible while claiming to be followers of Jesus, even though apart from the Bible we have no real knowledge of Jesus' teachings.) Also, the New Testament text is said to be riddled with deletions and interpolations foisted on the text in the sixth century and later by anti-reincarnationists, who even removed whole books, so that the text itself is unreliable. Finally, despite the alleged attempt in the sixth century to remove reincarnation from the Bible certain "vestiges" of the doctrine are said to be detectable in a scattering of texts (e.g., Matt. 17:10-13; John 3:3,7; John 9:1-3; Eph. 1:4; Rev. 3:12). 8

It is not possible within the space of this article to give a thorough refutation of each of these arguments. 9 The issues of the date, authorship, and textual transmission of the New Testament documents have received definitive treatment by evangelical scholars, to whose works the reader is referred. 10 These scholars have shown that all of the New Testament was written in the first century, by apostles or their close associates, and that the text of the New Testament has been faithfully transmitted through the centuries. In regard to the canon (books accepted as inspired) of the New Testament, 11 it was not bias against reincarnation that motivated the acceptance of certain writings and the rejection of apocryphal gospels and other writings which were excluded from the canon. Rather, the New Testament books were accepted because they were written by apostles or apostolic associates and were traceable to the first century. The books that were excluded were not apostolic, and were written between the second and the ninth centuries. 12 Furthermore, the New Testament canon was developed in the second and third centuries and received final form in the fourth century, 13 not in the sixth century, as the reincarnationists claim. Therefore, the reincarnationists' criticisms of the New Testament are invalid.

The argument that vestiges of reincarnationist belief can be found scattered throughout the New Testament is basically incompatible with the other arguments already discussed. If the New Testament books were written by unknown authors too late to be historically reliable, and if sixth-century scribes tampered with the text of the New Testament, of what value are these alleged "vestiges"? In any case, the reincarnationists have no right to quote the Bible in defense of their beliefs if at the same time they argue that the Bible is unreliable.

A detailed examination of these alleged prooftexts for reincarnation is not possible in this article. However, several helpful studies of the question have been published by Christians, showing that the Bible simply does not contain even a hint in favor of reincarnation, while its most central teachings contradict it.14

REINCARNATION AND THE EARLY CHURCH FATHERS
Reincarnationists in the West today typically argue that the early church held to a belief in reincarnation until the sixth century, when it was suppressed by the Roman emperor through the agency of a church council. In order to refute this claim, we must first examine the records to see if the early church fathers taught reincarnation. Our examination will reveal that reincarnation was not a subject of great concern to the early fathers, who held to the biblical hope of the resurrection, 15 but that whenever they discussed reincarnation they thoroughly condemned it. Reincarnationists have fabricated a false history of the early church based on 1) a deliberate reconstruction of the evidence which ignores the vast majority of the fathers' testimony; 2) partial quotations of the fathers, usually out of context; 3) interpolations into the quotations from the fathers; and 4) fabricated quotations.

Justin Martyr (c. 100-165)
Justin Martyr was one of the earliest of the church fathers. He is often claimed as "an early Christian reincarnationist. 16 Referring to chapter IV of Justin's Dialogue with Trypho, reincarnationists claim that "he taught that human souls inhabit more than one body in the course of their earthly pilgrimage." 17 What does Justin actually say? He does present a dialogue in which he discusses with Trypho the question of reincarnation; at the end of this discussion, the dialogue concludes as follows (note that "I" is Justin and "he" is Trypho, the Jew with whom he is debating; Trypho speaks first):

"Therefore souls neither see God nor transmigrate into other bodies; for they would know that so they are punished, and they would be afraid to commit even the most trivial sin afterwards. But that they can perceive that God exists, and that righteousness and piety are honorable, I also quite agree with you," said he.

"You are right," I replied.18

Clement of Alexandria (c. 155-220)
Another church father often alleged to have taught reincarnation was Clement of Alexandria, on the basis of his statement in the first chapter of his Exhortation to the Heathen that "before the foundation of the world were we." 19 At most this statement might be construed (apart from context) to teach preexistence of souls. In fact, though, Clement's statement in context does not even go that far. Rather, he is simply asserting the preexistence of Jesus Christ as the Word (or Logos), and God's foreknowledge and purpose to create and love us before creation:

But before the foundation of the world were we, who, because destined to be in Him, pre-existed in the eye of God before, -- we the rational creatures of the Word of God, on whose account we date from the beginning; for "in the beginning was the word." 20

Note that Clement carefully qualifies his statement that we existed in the beginning with the words "in the eye of God," meaning, of course, that our "preexistence" was as an idea in God's mind, not as substantial entities.

Origen (c. 185-254)
Origen was admittedly one of the most brilliant and innovative theologians of the early church. He was also, however, infamous for his theological speculations. He is the church father most often cited by reincarnationists as teaching their doctrine. One passage frequently cited is the following, from Origen's Against Celsus (I.32), exactly as cited by reincarnationists Head and Cranston:

Or is it not more in conformity with reason, that every soul, for certain mysterious reasons (I speak now according to the opinion of Pythagoras, and Plato, and Empedocles, whom Celsus frequently names), is introduced into a body, and introduced according to its deserts and former actions? It is probable, therefore, that this soul also, which conferred more benefit by its [former] residence in the flesh than that of many men (to avoid prejudice, I do not say "all"), stood in need of a body not only superior to others, but invested with all excellent qualities. 21

Several comments regarding this passage need to be made. First, Origen qualifies his statement by saying, "I speak now according to the opinion of Pythagoras, and Plato, and Empedocles, whom Celsus frequently names." This qualification indicates that Origen is arguing on the basis of Celsus's beliefs, not Origen's own beliefs. One reincarnationist, Anthony J. Fisichella, omitted this entire clause when quoting the passage. 22

Second, the insertion of the word "former" in brackets preceding the phrase "residence in the flesh" by Head and Cranston in the citation as produced above completely changes the meaning. Origen is not talking about a previous incarnation distinguished from a subsequent incarnation, but about a single incarnation.

Third, the point that Origen is trying to make in the context has been completely missed. Origen is not talking about the natural birth of an ordinary human being, but about the miraculous conception of Jesus in a virgin's womb. In the first half of the chapter Origen refutes the legendary explanation of the virgin birth which was circulating among the Jews (and had been picked up by Celsus) that Mary had committed adultery with a Roman soldier. He then puts forth the following question:

Is it at all agreeable to reason, that he who dared to do so much for the human race . . . should not have had a miraculous birth, but one the vilest and most disgraceful of all [i.e., an illegitimate birth]? And I will ask of them as Greeks, and particularly of Celsus, who either holds or not the sentiments of Plato, and at any rate quotes them, whether He who sends souls down into the bodies of men, degraded Him who was to dare such mighty acts, and to teach so many men, and to reform so many from the mass of wickedness in the world, to a birth more disgraceful than any other, and did not rather introduce Him into the world through a lawful marriage? 23

Then follows immediately the original quotation produced above, appealing to the Greek philosophers so respected by Celsus, to prove that according to their teaching someone as noble as Jesus obviously was could not have had so ignoble a birth as Celsus had claimed. With this context in mind, it is evident that Origen is not here arguing for reincarnation, nor does his argument even imply it. He does argue on the basis of the preexistence of souls, an opinion which he himself held, although even here he gives as the source of that opinion pagan Greek philosophy, not Christian doctrine.

Later in the same treatise, Origen made the following comment:

But on these subjects much, and that of a mystical kind, might be said; in keeping with which is the following: "it is good to keep close the secret of a king," -- in order that the doctrine of the entrance of souls into bodies (not, however, that of the transmigration from one body into another) may not be thrown before the common understanding, nor what is holy given to the dogs, nor pearls be cast before swine. 24

This statement makes it clear that Origen did hold to the heretical doctrine that human souls preexisted their physical bodies, but did not hold to reincarnations. 25

At about the same time as he wrote Against Celsus, around the year 247 (and therefore toward the end of his life), 26 Origen wrote a commentary on Matthew in which he discussed at length whether John the Baptist was the reincarnation of Elijah. His answer to this question was unequivocal:

In this place [Matt. 17:10-13] it does not appear to me that by Elijah the soul is spoken of, lest I should fall into the dogma of transmigration, which is foreign to the church of God, and not handed down by the Apostles, nor anywhere set forth in the Scriptures . . . 27

Origen then launched into a lengthy discussion of transmigration, arguing that it is contrary to the biblical doctrine of a judgment at the end of the age, and that John had not the "soul" but the "spirit and power" of Elijah (Luke 1:17). 28 No clearer statement rejecting the doctrine of reincarnation could be imagined.

It is true that Jerome, a leading church father in the early fifth century, argued that Origen held to reincarnation. Writing in a letter to Avitus about 409 or 410, Jerome accused Origen of holding to the "transmigration of souls," including the idea that both angelic and human spirits "may in punishment for great negligence or folly be transformed into brutes," that is, be reincarnated as animals. 29 However, in this same letter Jerome admits that Origen qualified his statements on the subject:

Then, lest he should be held guilty of maintaining with Pythagoras the transmigration of souls, he winds up the wicked reasoning with which he has wounded his reader by saying: "I must not be taken to make dogmas of these things; they are only thrown out as conjectures to show that they are not altogether overlooked. 30

Since Jerome's criticism of Origen is based on Origen's earlier writings (particularly "On First Principles," written between 212 and 215), and in his later writings Origen explicitly rejected transmigration of souls, and since even Jerome admits that Origen wished to stop short of maintaining that doctrine, we may safely conclude that Origen did not teach reincarnation.

Jerome (c. 345-419)
As we have just seen, Jerome condemned Origen as a heretic partly on the basis of Origen's alleged leanings toward reincarnation. It is therefore surprising to learn that several reincarnationists claim that Jerome himself believed in reincarnation! One reincarnationist even cited Jerome's letter to Avitus as proof 31 -- the very letter in which Jerome condemned Origen for teaching reincarnation!

Other reincarnationists have attributed to Jerome the following statement from his letter to Demetrius: "The doctrine of transmigration has been secretly taught from ancient times to small numbers of people, as a traditional truth which was not to be divulged." 32 A search of this letter, however, reveals no such statement. Instead, we find Jerome once again condemning the doctrine as a "godless and wicked teaching" which "lurks secretly like a viper in its hole." 33

msfreeh,

There was no New Testament before the 4rth Century. There were many documents and copies of documents, and copies of copies of documents that were in circulation amung the various sects in the first 3 centuries. It is well known that many of the documents in circulation were simply heretical forgeries written by people claiming to be apostolic or related to apostles just to create an illuson of credibility. The Church in the early 4rth Century attempted to sift through this mountain of stuff, including much crap and create a canon which became the New Testament. They did a remarkable job considering the true gospel had already left the earth.

Now I guess your thesis would be that because the great apostacy had already taken place that the "evil" Christian fathers removed true scriptures related to "Reincarnaton". However, there is one big flaw in your thesis. As Latter Day Saints, we know that the Chist has restored his gospel and we have with the BOM and modern day revelation the complete gospel, in that it contains all of the gospel that is necessry for salvation.

So amung Latter Day Saints, if you want demonstrate that any scriptures dumped by our early christian fathers contained truth about something so important and fundamental as re-incarnation, show where our modern scrptures have it, or our modern prophets have revealed it.

Regards,

Geoge Clay

There's a reincarnation discussion here http://www.ldsfreedomforum.com/viewtopi ... ncarnation" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

My view point is that you can have all of the effects described (memories or even birth marks/defects corresponding to real former people) without reincarnation. The spirit world is here around us. If a spirit who had never been born really watched a life in detail, they may have memories of that life when the veil thins, even though it was not their own life. Also, as faith is a principle of power, if during gestation the spirit fixates on some aspect of the other person's life or death, I don't see why it might not cause marks or other effects in their own bodies. I would tend to fault them for that level of fixation though, a possible spiritual defect; when they ought to be focusing on the task at hand: governing their own life and flesh.

Thanks for your ideas. The backstory here.
A couple of years ago I was shooting a video at a elementary school for 1-6 graders and the teachers had prepared
food for us to share with them in the teachers room during lunch break.
I raised the subject of reincarnation while we were eating and several of the teachers mentioned it was common
for some of their students to remember and discuss their previous life with teachers and other students.
The way American society is structured the common way to deal with these stories is to pass them off as an active imagination
with no attention placed on investigating them. This was just one school. Dr. Ian Stevenson took the stories seriously
and investigated 3,000 of them.

This is the first of several articles I want to post
dealing with remote viewing and out of body experiences

A couple of years ago I had the opportunity to videotape Colonel David Morehouse

In the 1970's the US Military/Empire was interested in weaponizing remote viewing and out of body
experiences so they created OPERATION STARGATE and other programs
Colonel David Morehouse was one of the people trained in Remote Viewing.
Joseph McMoneagle was also trained with Morehouse. Both have written books.
I recommend both books titled PSYCHIC WARRIOR and MIND TREK.

THE SPIRITUAL BRAIN

by Dr Mario Beauregard
::Shrugs::
I have no doubt that if someone had premortal memories, and the only explanation they have for it is reincarnation, they'd think they were remembering a former incarnation. This is especially true if we "see through a glass darkly", I'm sure the memories could easily confuse the person. We're so used to "owning" all our thoughts and this isn't a correct perspective to take, either. So, on the other side of the coin you could have a dead person sharing things with you which you mistakenly take ownership of.

I don't take myself too seriously about these thoughts.... the topic really doesn't interest me that much; I'm merely stating why any evidence, even if I believe it, is not going to impress me much. Too many other possibilities besides dangerous eastern philosophies, if you ask me.

He is a world famous physicist who just set up an experiment to be conducted in Germany this year
where a atom will be suspended between two laser beams. As some people know an atom can either be up or down.
A computer will be attached to the atom via the lasers controlling it's position.
The test is to determine if the atom has consciousness. A person will try and tell the atom to be in the up or down
position. The person will use the Morse Code of dits and dats to spell out the preamble of the US Constitution
with the atom up position being dit the atom down position being dat. The preamble will appear on the computer screen.

The Mysteries Project #4: Anomalous Geography on Ocean Bottom Suggesting Technologically Advanced Ancient Civilization Evidence

Data Release Date: 27 December 2012
Final Project Release Date: A DVD is currently being prepared that contains a full presentation of the remote-viewing data and their interpretation. The release of the DVD is planned for March 2013. However, the original remote-viewing data, plus brief summaries of the session results are presented now (the data release date, 27 December 2012) on these web pages.

Project Summary
This is a remote-viewing investigation of a defunct, technologically advanced human civilization that once existed in the ancient past on Earth. We sometimes refer to this project as the "Atlantis Project." However, no attempt here is made to connect this project to any contemporary views relating to Atlantis mythology. Here, the word "Atlantis" is used only to represent the idea of a technologically advanced human civilization that once existed in the ancient past on Earth. Our findings suggest that this civilization did in fact destroy itself in a cataclysm that resulted from the misuse of its own science.

All remote viewing done at The Farsight Institute is conducted under totally blind conditions. The remote viewers are never given any information about or relating to the targets prior to the completion of all remote-viewing sessions for a project. To understand the differences between an operational project such as this one and a strictly scientific project (such as our Multiple Universes Project), see the discussion on our Mysteries Project main page.

Project Background and Imagery
This remote-viewing study focuses on two anomalous patterns visible on Google Earth that are located at the bottom of the ocean. The anomalous patterns seem to suggest high levels of technologically sophisticated civilization activity in the very ancient past. The Google Earth presentation of these data has occurred in two versions, which we will call Google Earth 1.0 and 2.0. Comparing the two versions, the anomalous patterns seem to diminish in Google Earth 2.0, while they are very clear in Google Earth 1.0. There is controversy with both versions. With the Google Earth 1.0 version, the anomalous patterns have been erroneously dismissed (elsewhere) as sonar imaging artifacts known as "ship tracks." With the Google Earth 2.0 version, the "ship tracks" idea has been largely dropped, and the claim has been made (again, elsewhere) that the Google Earth 2.0 imagery is "improved," and that this improvement "fixed" the anomalous imagery seen in Google Earth 1.0. However, a comparison between the two versions suggests that the Google Earth 2.0 imagery for these two anomalies has been compromised as the result of the application of extreme compression algorithms that radically diminish or in some areas eliminate color gradients (or transitional color variation as one moves across an image). Evidence of this is the appearance of extensive patches of an image that follow vertical and horizontal pixel lines in which there is no color variation, or no gradation in color. The question of whether this was done in Google Earth 2.0 for the purpose of suppressing the anomalous evidence that was clearly visible in the Google Earth 1.0 imagery is not discussed here. It is important to note that all Google Earth data in their original form are collected and distributed by the United States government. Motivations as to why any government may wish to suppress this type of evidence is similarly not addressed here. The images with the anomalies are shown below in both Google 1.0 and 2.0 versions for comparison. It is suggested that people examine the evidence presented here and come to their own conclusions.

Since there are controversies regarding the anomalous patterns found on the bottom of the ocean in Google Earth, remote viewing can be used to address the controversies by enabling direct observation of the patterns themselves on the ocean floor. In many respects, this approach would complement a future attempt to send a submarine to investigate the patterns. Remote-viewing data can also be used to help interpret data obtained from a physical investigation, since remote viewers can travel back in time to directly observe the origin of the patterns.

To ease the presentation of this material, the anomaly shown in figure 1 below is referenced as the "Atlantic Grid." The anomaly shown in figure 4 below is referenced as the "Antarctic Grid."

Transcending Tribal Mentality

By Caroline Myss

All of us are born into a "tribal mentality" of various forms. These include our family unit, religious background, country of origin, ethnicity, etc. The tribal mentality effectively indoctrinates an individual into the tribe's beliefs, ensuring that all believe the same. The structure of reality – what is and is not possible for the members of the group – is thus agreed upon and maintained by the tribe.

While the tribal mentality has definite benefits in terms of establishing common ground and ensuring group survival, it is not a conscious agreement. We are born into it. Yet at a certain stage, both personally and collectively, the tribal mentality must be challenged. People can then begin to recognize the need for a personal honor code independent of the tribe. If humanity is to progress, we need to learn how to treat everyone – regardless of tribal affiliation – with honor and respect.

Every one of us is plugged into the tribal mind. We support tribal belief patterns by directing a percentage of our life force into maintaining our affiliation with the tribe. This involves an implicit agreement to think like the tribe thinks, to evaluate situations and people the way the tribe does, and to believe in right and wrong according to tribal values and ambitions. As long as the tribal mentality within us remains unexamined, we unwittingly subject others to our tribal laws.

When we are plugged into tribal thought forms, we can easily believe in nonsensical prejudices held by the tribe. Tribal mentality allows us to hold harsh, judgmental positions or attitudes about an entire group of people: "All fat people are lazy," or "all Irish are drunks," or "all Muslims are terrorists" for example.

A rigid tribal thought form may have little truth to it, but individuals hold to such beliefs because that perspective is what the tribe has agreed to believe. Innocent children, born into the hatred and prejudice of their parents and ancestors, grow up inside a tribal mentality that sponsors an endless march toward war against the tribe's perceived enemies. People grow up hating other people – people they have never seen – based on group affiliation. This is the shadow side of the tribe.

Inevitably, some among us come to a point where we want to break out of the inflexible tribal mentality. At some point, these individuals want to explore, develop, and manage their own consciousness without the judgments and limitations of the tribal mind.

It is easy to spot these mavericks when they start to question and unplug from tribal mentality – they hang out on the periphery looking bored and restless, or whimsical and dreamy. Others may act out the agitated hot-head as they challenge tribal ways.

The unspoken assumption of the tribal mind is that everybody loves being part of the tribe. And in many ways, we do. Knowing where and to whom we "belong" is crucial to our self-concept and sense of safety in the world. Yet when we begin the real deep journey of questioning, "What do I believe?" and start to individuate from the tribe, we often enter a dark night of the soul. It is, by necessity, a passage we take alone.

It's one thing to reject what we don't want to believe anymore. It's quite another to begin to explore what we do believe. All we know as we enter the dark night is that we can't go back – even when the tribe is the only world we've ever known.

At this critical point in our development, the tribe doesn't feel right anymore. It no longer offers us comfort. Previous feelings of security and familiarity begin to feel like a trap constraining our individuality and hampering our efforts to discover deeper levels of who we really are.

This dark night passage pushes us to look at our false gods – the tribal belief patterns in which we've become invested and to which we've given our allegiance.

The Language of Wounds

For a large segment of the population, the language of wounds has become the new tribal language of intimacy. Prior to the current age of personal therapy – which only really took off in the 1960s and 70s – the tribal language of intimacy largely involved the sharing of only superficial personal and family data. Deeper matters such as family secrets like sexual abuse or a mad aunt or uncle were shared with exceedingly few, if any.

Divorce and financial information were also considered very intimate. People would almost never talk about such matters, or about their inner life and emotions. They talked only about the details of what was going on in their external lives. The tribal mentality at the time kept people from revealing intimate matters or deep wounds or traumas even with their family and close friends.

The current age of personal therapy has brought about a very different situation. Now, the tribal mentality has shifted such that we not only share our intimate feelings more openly and willingly, many have even begun to define themselves by their wounds. Let me give an example of how this phenomenon plays itself out.

I was in an Indian restaurant in Scotland talking with two men friends when the woman friend I was to meet for dinner walked up and greeted the three of us. After I had introduced her, another man walked over and asked if she was free on June 8th, as he thought she might like to attend a lecture on that date. The question required little more than a ‘yes' or a ‘no' answer.

Instead of a simple answer, she began an elaborate discussion about June 8th. "Did you say June 8th? No, no. Any other day would be fine, but not June 8th. That's the day my incest survivor group meets and I have to be there because we never let each other down." She went on and on for at least a full minute with this.

Later, I asked her, "Do you realize that in that brief introduction, you told two men whom you have never met before that 1) you had experienced incest, 2) you were still in therapy about it, 3) you were angry about it, 4) you were angry at men, and 5) you needed to determine the course of the conversation – all in one minute?"

She replied, "Well, I am a victim of incest."

To which I replied, "I know that. Why did you have to let them know that?"

She was operating from a tribal mentality. The group mind within the incest survivor community has a belief about how this particular wound should be healed. The tribe says, "You need a group." The tribe says, "You have a right to be angry."

People now get together in support group tribes that function within many of the same rigid frameworks of ethnic, national, or family tribes. Some feel that the comfort and security of belonging to a group or tribe is more important than venturing alone in the direction of real healing.

Tribalism in Relationships

The tendency toward tribalism can keep us stuck in repeating negative cycles in our intimate relationships, and can wreak havoc when a relationship is ripe for transition. Tribal mentality often teaches a righteous stance in relationships: an eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth. When we feel violated, the first thought is vengeance, rather than forgiveness.

Tribal mentality even has gender-specific undercurrents – women do vengeance differently than men. Yet for both genders, what rules the day is the tribal mentality that holds "breaking up is painful" or "betrayal warrants retaliation."

Healing revolves around this crucial question: "Do you want to make different choices?" Are we willing to let go of old, constricting tribal patterns? Sadly, the answer quite often is "No." Being healthy isn't always the most appealing option. Quite frankly, in many cases, it's not appealing at all. What is most appealing is being out of pain. Old patterns are difficult to relinquish because they do serve to relieve pain, even if it is only in the short run.

Change is terrifying for many precisely because short-term pain relief must be given up. Deep healing requires learning to tolerate the pain that comes with change. Fortunately, the growing pains that come with new behavior – with making the choices that will change your life – are often short-lived.

Thought alone doesn't heal. Nor does action without thought. For deep healing to occur, we need the chemistry of conscious thought and direct action combined. Every thought or attitude we have – whether consciously chosen or unconsciously adopted through the tribal mind – invests a part of our life-force into that thought or attitude. This is true whether the thought is one of betrayal and vengeance, or of understanding and forgiveness.

What matters is that a whole system of consciousness – the old tribal mentality – no longer holds us enthralled. We no longer have faith in those limiting patterns of thought. Through this transformation we learn a whole new level of trust. We break the habit of telling tribal lies which bring short-term comfort but long-term pain. We develop a new sense of self-worth and of trust and honor.

In spite of all the heavy tribal conditioning, we now have hope because tribal mentality the world over is going through a vast transformation. And each one of us can play a vital role in this transformation.

With increasing numbers of individuals changing and transcending limiting tribal beliefs, the codes of the tribe are being affected. As we collectively change and evolve, the tribes around us gradually change and evolve with us. Yet ultimately, the journey upon which we are embarking is an incredible solo flight of transcending the tribe to find our own trust, honor, and new sense of self-worth and meaning in life.

The last election proved that people think tribally. And on top of that psychologist Christopher Ryan points out that women band together when a male threatens them. All the talk of a gender gap actually creates one as women are genetically designed to live together so they tend to think more communally. Males cooperate too but they also compete for females. In a polygamist society (a natural way of living) women need not compete with each other to the same degree.

Seth is an entity channeled by Jane Roberts

"Humanity dreams the same dream at once, and you have your mass world. The whole construction is like an educational play in which you are the producers as well as the actors. There is a play within a play within a play. There is no end to the 'within' of things. The dreamer dreams, and the dreamer within the dream dreams. But the dreams are not meaningless, and the actions within them are significant. The whole self is the observer and also a participator in the roles." - Seth, as channeled by Jane Roberts (From The Seth Material)

Can I access everything you ever did after we die?
(everything you ever did is on a hard drive)
Can you access everything you ever did after you die?

Can we access everything you might do while still alive?

You do know what to do, eh?
