The bible is the world's most popular holy book, and once again, approximately 600 New Testaments were burned when they were discovered in a routine border inspection.

Here's more of the story from Mohabat News:

According to Iranian Christian News Agency " Mohabat News" reporters, on Tuesday February 7, 2011, in coordinated operation between the Office of Contraband Search and Seizure and the Revolutionary Guards of the city of Salmas, in the Northwest province of Western Azerbaijan, discovered more than 600 New Testaments along with other contrabands such as alcoholic spirits, which were previously discovered and seized and in a special public viewing in the town of Derishk, burned all of the New Testaments and the seized alcohol.

The article goes on to say that a similar incident occurred in October 2010.

Franklin Graham Curious About Obama Birth Issue
Sunday, April 24, 2011
By: Hiram Reisner
The Rev. Franklin Graham says he wonders why President Barack Obama has avoided producing his birth certificate, according to Politico. Graham also
told Christiane Amanpour on ABC’s "This Week" that the president "has some issues to deal with" when it comes to proving he was born in the United States.
"He can solve this whole birth certificate issue pretty quickly," Graham said. "I was born in a hospital in Asheville, North Carolina. And I know that my records are there, you can probably go and find out what room my mother was in when I was born. I don’t know why he can’t produce that. It's an issue it looks like he can answer pretty quickly."
Graham, who has prayed with Obama, said the president has told him that he’s a Christian, but allowed that "there are many people that do wonder where he really stands on his religion".

On the site linked below, you can listen to an interview with Dr. Karl Maret. Dr. Maret is the president of the Dove Health Alliance, a nonprofit foundation that focuses on the creation and promotion of global research and education networks in Energy Medicine.

Dr. Maret trained in both electrical and biomedical engineering before his medical studies. He has recently begun educating physician groups specifically on the biological impacts of communication technologies, such as cell phones and wireless technologies.

According to Electromagnetic Health, in this interview, Maret discusses:
"... the biological effects of electromagnetic fields. He offers especially valuable perspective given he has both an extensive medical background and a background in electrical engineering and biomedical engineering."

According to a new study, electromagnetic radiation from cellular phones may affect bone strength. Men who wear their cell phone on the right side of their belts were found to have reduced bone mineral content and bone mineral density in the right hip.

Researchers measured the bone strength at the left and right hip in two groups of healthy men, half of whom did not use cell phones and half of whom carried their cell phone in a belt pouch on the right side. Their hip bones were assessed using a test called dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry.

According to Newswise:
"... [M]en who did not use cell phones had higher [bone mineral content] in the right femoral neck (near the top of the thigh bone) ... The cell phone users also had reduced [bone mineral density] and [bone mineral content] at the right trochanter -- an area at the outside top of the thigh bone, close to where the phone would be worn on the belt."

Additionally, a separate U.S. government funded study by Nora Volkow et al published in JAMA unsettled many people when it reported that using a cell phone could alter brain activity, and do so at non-thermal levels of microwave radiation, levels which have long been argued by industry and regulatory bodies do not have enough intensity to create biological effects.

The report did not conclude whether the changes in glucose levels resulted in any negative, long-term health effect, but it had many people wondering what they can do to protect themselves, and also whether they can trust regulatory bodies setting exposure guidelines.

Dr. Michael Kundi, at the Medical University of Vienna, Austria, commented:
"Since a brain tumor utilizes excessive amounts of glucose, changes in glucose utilization may be a key mechanism to support tumor growth."

The study's authors advise cell phone users to keep their phone at a distance by putting them on speaker mode or using a wired headset whenever possible. Even holding your phone farther away from your ear can make a difference, as the intensity of radiation diminishes sharply with distance.

According to the New York Times:
"Many cellphones emit the most radiation when they initially establish contact with the cell tower, making their 'digital handshake.' To reduce exposure it's best to wait until after your call has been connected to put your cellphone next to your ear.

During the ensuing conversation, it's advisable to tilt the phone away from your ear when you are talking and only bring it in close to your ear when you are listening ... radiation is 'significantly less when a cellphone is receiving signals than when it is transmitting.'"

In addition, texting instead of talking might be safer.
And if the Volkow study demonstrating increased glucose levels in the brain from cell phone radiation raised major concerns about cell phone safety around the globe, stunning new research from China is following on its heels, waking up people further to the evident very serious risks from cell phones.

The recent study, by Duan Y, et al , "Correlation between cellular phone use and epithelial parotid gland malignancies," published in the International Journal of Oral and Maxofacial Surgery, showed a dose-response relationship between cell phone use and parotid gland tumors, and as much as a 3,000% increased risk of parotid gland tumors with greater than 2.5 hours of cell phone use per day.

See ElectromagneticHealth.org post, "Important New Chinese Study Connecting Cell Phone Use with Parotid Gland Tumors," and coverage by Microwave News, "Chinese Put Cancer of the Parotid Gland on Center Stage."
"The authors found general indications of a dose–response relationship between cellular phone use and parotid gland malignancy.
In particular, duration of use prior to diagnosis, average daily number of calls, average daily duration of cellular phone usage, number of calls since first use, and total time of usage were positively associated with parotidgland malignancy."

Brain tumor analyst L. Lloyd Morgan, B.S., who was lead author of the landmark report, "Cellphones and Brain Tumors: 15 Reasons for Concern," says the risks of parotid gland tumors found in the Duan Y, et al parotid gland study were "as large, perhaps larger, than the risk of lung cancer from smoking."

Camilla Rees of www.ElectromagneticHealth.org says:

"It is not surprising we have never seen the full data set from the 13-country Interphone study, especially the data on parotid gland tumors and acoustic neuromas, tumors closest to where a cell phone is held against the head, despite the fact that the study was completed over six years ago.

The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), the part of the World Health Organization responsible for the Interphone study, is planning to soon draw conclusions on risk of cancer from RF from cell phones based only on the 50% of Interphone results they have released to date,

Global scientists and activists are now actively protesting this decision and insisting it be held off until the full Interphone data set is released. The Duan Y, et al parotid gland study very strongly reemphasizes we must gain access to the full dataset of the Interphone study, and subject it to independent analysis."

THAT's LIFE...Trump comments on Barack

Postby Janadele » Wed Apr 27, 2011 3:23 pm

http://www.newsmax.com/Headline/trump-v ... ode=C2B7-1
Trump was asked how he would handle soaring gasoline prices if he was president.
“The first thing I’d do is get calls into OPEC and say, you fellows get over to my office right now,” Trump tells Newsmax.

“OPEC is ripping us off like nobody has ripped us off before. Saudi Arabia three days ago decided to raise the price of fuel by cutting down on supply. They look at us like we’re a bunch of jerks. They look at our leaders like they’re not very smart. Obviously the leaders aren’t very smart.
“I know two days ago the president said he has very little control over oil prices. I disagree, because he should be able to totally control OPEC. They wouldn’t even exist if it weren’t for us.”

Also on the energy issue, Trump declares: “Obama’s moratorium on drilling has been a total disaster. How could this guy have people not being able to travel, not being able to fill up their tanks with gasoline, and he’s got a moratorium on drilling? We should drill in Alaska, and we should drill all over until we don’t need foreign oil. We should use natural gas and clean coal. We should use everything in our power.”

Noting that the prices of food and clothing have also been rising, Trump says “part of that is because the dollar is so weak. He’s allowed the dollar to fail.
“He likes it because short term it’s a little bit good for the country in terms of trade. But long term, it’s a disaster. He’s allowed the dollar to go so low that it is becoming a laughingstock, just like him.”

Trump also took aim at the major media and their coverage of Obama. He said: “The press has been so protective of Obama. It’s a joke, a laughing joke. I’ve never seen anything like it. You say anything negative about Obama and they start screaming at you. It’s absolutely incredible.”

THAT's LIFE... Genealogy

Free Online Classes Help People Climb Their Family Tree
Genealogy is one of the most popular hobbies in the world, and new online classes from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints make it easier than ever to search for your ancestors from the comfort of your own home.
26 April 2011 — Salt Lake City

Through the nonprofit FamilySearch organization, the Church provides records and resources to help people with their family history. This effort stems from the Latter-day Saint belief that families can be together after this life, but the Church provides access to genealogical information to everyone, regardless of religious affiliation. These offerings now include a growing collection of free online classes that anyone can access on the Internet at their convenience. These classes help people get started in genealogy, learn how to use different types of records or research in a specific area.

FamilySearch instructional designer Candace Turpin says there are currently about 140 classes available on the familysearch.org website, and that number is growing every month. The variety of classes offers something for everyone, from experienced family historians to curious novices.

“The goal of the initiative is to educate more people worldwide about how to find their ancestors,” Turpin said. “We do it by filming the experts teaching a particular class of interest and then offering free access to that presentation online — complete with the PowerPoint used and any electronic handouts that the user can download or print for future reference.”

FamilySearch uses viewing software that splits the viewing screen (sort of like the picture-in-picture features on some smart televisions) so the user can watch the video of the presenter while also seeing the PowerPoint presentation. Most courses are 30 minutes in length. Unlike live classes, viewers can fast forward through the online course or pause or stop and finish watching it later.

THAT's LIFE...150 million Book of Mormon

Postby Janadele » Wed Apr 27, 2011 10:42 pm

150 Million and Counting: The Book of Mormon Reaches Another Milestone

As The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints grows, so does the publishing of the Book of Mormon: Another Testament of Jesus Christ. The 150 millionth copy of the Book of Mormon was recently printed, passing another milestone in the book’s 181-year history.“The Lord brought forth the Book of Mormon at a period of time when printing methods would enhance its distribution far and wide,” Church PresidentThomas S. Monson said in the Special Witnesses of Christ video (2000). “Modern-day printing presses now enable the Church to print and distribute many millions of copies of the Book of Mormon each year.”

To date, the Book of Mormon has been fully translated into 82 languages and partially translated in 25 more. A full-time missionary force of more than52,000 helps distribute free copies of the Book of Mormon worldwide, and free copies can also be obtained from Mormon.org.

The Book of Mormon was first published in English in 1830 in Palmyra, New York. This book has been described as the “keystone” of the Church, and from the beginning, Church members have accepted it as scripture alongside the Doctrine and Covenants, thePearl of Great Price and the Bible.

The Book of Mormon does not replace the Bible as scripture for members of the Church. The Bible and the Book of Mormon are used side by side in their preaching and personal study. In fact, a recent studyfound that Latter-day Saints score high among religious groups in their knowledge of the Bible.

In 2003, Book magazine named the Book of Mormon one of the “20 Books That Changed America.” In October 2007, late Church President Gordon B. Hinckley described its modern influence: “Through all of these years critics have tried to explain it. They have spoken against it. They have ridiculed it. But it has outlived them all, and its influence today is greater than at any time in its history.” (Read what individual Church members say about the Book of Mormon.)

In addition to the 150 million copies of the Book of Mormon in print, the Church also makes the volume available on its official website in a format that facilitates a study of the book and in applications for handheld devices.

The first video captures the panic, desperation, and fear of worshippers leaving mass at Two Saints Church in Alexandria, Egypt. Bodies cover the street and vehicles burn immediately following the bombing. In the second video, a Muslim’s voice can be heard shouting ‘Allah Akbar,’ meaning God is great, as the vehicle – full of explosives – remains in flames after being detonated at the entrance of the church.

Jihad bomb murders 14 in Marrakesh cafe http://www.jihadwatch.org/2011/04/jihad ... -cafe.html
Allah guarantees Paradise to those who "kill and are killed" for him (Qur'an 9:111).

"Blast kills 14 in Marrakesh cafe," from AFP, April 28 :

MARRAKESH, Morocco (AFP) – A powerful blast ripped through a cafe in the Moroccan city of Marrakesh on Thursday, killing 11 foreigners and three Moroccans in what authorities suspect was the work of a suicide bomber.
"According to the information I have, it could have been perpetrated by a suicide bomber," an official in the regional governor's office told AFP.

"We found nails in one of the bodies," added the official, who was in a hospital where some of the bodies were taken.

And an interior ministry official said that indications pointed to a terror attack on the Argana cafe in the main square of Marrakesh, a favourite haunt of foreign tourists.

But there were contradictory reports on exactly how the blast occurred.

One witness who was inside the cafe but escaped unscathed said: "An individual entered, ordered an orange juice and a few minutes later blew himself up."

But another witness, quoted by several Moroccan radio stations, said the bomber dropped a suitcase and immediately walked out of the cafe....

Last January, Moroccan Interior Minister Taib Cherkaoui said 27 suspected terrorists recently arrested in the country's south had ties to Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM), an Al-Qaeda-linked regional offshoot, and to Europe-based. [sic] ...

Cherkaoui then said the network had planned bank robberies in Casablanca and Rabat "to finance its terrorist actions."

And his ministry said the network was led by "a Moroccan national who is a member of AQIM and who wanted to create a rear base in the country for terror attacks."

President Thomas S. Monson Rededicates Atlanta Georgia Templ

Postby Janadele » Sun May 01, 2011 9:05 pm

http://newsroom.lds.org/article/atlanta ... nsonChurch President Thomas S. Monson Rededicates Atlanta Georgia Temple After Renovation
01 May 2011 — Salt Lake City

President Thomas S. Monson, president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, rededicated the Atlanta Georgia Temple in two sessions Sunday after an extensive closure for renovation. Both sessions were broadcast to meetinghouses throughout the temple district, enabling thousands of devout Latter-day Saints to participate.

Paula Watson attended the rededication ceremony Sunday morning. “It’s really hard to describe the feelings that you experience when you’re inside the temple with a prophet,” she recalled. “I was right there with him. It’s very touching. The spirit is just overwhelming. You feel peace. You feel love, but mostly gratitude that the temple has been rededicated and we can enter through its doors again.”

Those thoughts were echoed by Rob Williams, who also attended the ceremony. “The expectation has gotten greater and greater and we really appreciate it now that it has been rededicated. It’s a chance to come back and renew our own commitment to come to the temple,” he said.

The rededication was preceded by a cultural celebration Saturday evening at the Atlanta Civic Center. Youth performers from 150 area congregations danced, sang and presented a visual display of Georgia history and culture in “Southern Lights.”

“The magnificent Atlanta Temple, in this beautiful part of the country, will be rededicated in the morning,” said President Monson to a capacity audience. “It is, of course, the reason for this great celebration. Although … its light has been somewhat dimmed for nearly two years, tomorrow that light will return.”

Latter-day Saint youth leader Tony Parker said the dances were a challenge to learn for the 2,700 young people, but they worked hard and had faith. “I’ve seen a magnificent change in regards to the way in which they embraced the opportunity to represent their [congregations], their families and Jesus Christ.”

Alexandra was one of the participants in the cultural celebration. She recalled her favorite part of the night. “The highlight of the evening was … the closing number. We were able to sing in front of the prophet and wave our lights ... I could really feel the light shining from within all the people that were there.”

President Monson enjoyed the performance with other Church leaders in attendance including Elder M. Russell Ballard, Elder Walter F. Gonzales and Elder William R. Walker. President Monson told those participating in the event that they would be blessed by the light which emanated from each one of them.

The Atlanta Georgia Temple was the first temple built in the southern United States. It was originally dedicated 1 June 1983 by President Gordon B. Hinckley, then a counselor in the First Presidency. President Monson also attended that dedication. Nearly three decades after the orginal dedication, President Monson returned as the president of the Church to rededicate the temple.

The temple serves more than 76,000 Latter-day Saints living in and around Georgia. The temple was closed 1 July 2009 for renovation. This renovation included complete replacement of the electrical, plumbing and HVAC systems, as well as the installation of an automatic fire sprinkler system. Work was also done to assure more complete functionality for the disabled. In addition to the technical improvements, new appointments include rich eucalyptus hardwood from Brazil, original art, Swarovski crystal chandeliers, 45 new art-glass panels, etched carpets and added windows for increased natural light. The exterior of the temple remains mostly unchanged, with some new landscaping.

Shortly after renovations were complete, the public was invited to a two-week open house. More than 56,000 people toured the building.

Formal temple work commences Tuesday, 3 May 2011. An estimated 2.5 million Latter-day Saints have entered the Atlanta temple since its original dedication in 1983.

Today, at least one temple is located in every adjoining state, in Birmingham, Alabama; Memphis and Nashville, Tennessee; Raleigh, North Carolina; Columbia, South Carolina and Orlando, Florida. Worldwide there are 134 operating temples, with another 26 announced or in some phase of construction, including a second temple in Florida, to be located in or near Ft. Lauderdale.

Latter-day Saint temples differ from the meetinghouses or chapels where members meet for Sunday worship services. Temples are considered “houses of the Lord” where the teachings of Jesus Christ are reaffirmed through marriage, baptism and other ordinances that unite families for eternity. In the temple, Church members learn more about the purpose of life and make covenants to follow Jesus Christ and serve their fellow man.

THAT's LIFE... Osama bin Laden

Postby Janadele » Mon May 02, 2011 12:05 am

US military and diplomatic installations are on a state of heightened alert and members of the Obama administration and the President have been alerting members of Congress and foreign leaders all night long.

Bin Laden was apparently killed in a "human operation" that was based on actionable intelligence in a mansion outside of Islamabad, Pakistan, according to CNN. He was killed in a highly secure compound, built in 2005, that was a virtual fortress of 15-foot-high walls and barbed wire.

The entire operation lasted just 40 minutes and was conducted by an elite team of US Navy SEALS, CIA officers, and other special military commandos. Pakistani intelligence officials apparently were key to the success of the mission, initial reports suggested.

The announcement comes nearly a decade after the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks which started a tireless hunt for the terrorist mastermind and al-Qaida leader.

Challenging the might of the "infidel" United States, Osama bin Laden masterminded the deadliest militant attacks in history and then built a global network of allies to wage a "holy war" intended to outlive him.

The man behind the suicide hijack attacks of September 11, 2001, and who U.S. officials said late on Sunday was dead, was the nemesis of former President George W. Bush, who pledged to take him "dead or alive" and whose two terms were dominated by a "war on terror" against his al-Qaida network.

Bin Laden also assailed Bush's successor, Barack Obama, dismissing a new beginning with Muslims he offered in a 2009 speech as sowing "seeds for hatred and revenge against America."

Widely assumed to be hiding in Pakistan -- whether in a mountain cave or a bustling city -- bin Laden was believed to be largely bereft of operational control, under threat from U.S. drone strikes and struggling with disenchantment among former supporters alienated by suicide attacks in Iraq in 2004-06.

But even as political and security pressures grew on him in 2009-2101, the Saudi-born militant appeared to hit upon a strategy of smaller, more easily-organized attacks, carried out by globally-scattered hubs of sympathizers and affiliate groups. Al=Qaida sprouted new offshoots in Yemen, Iraq and North Africa and directed or inspired attacks from Bali to Britain to the United States, where a Nigerian Islamist made a botched attempt to down an airliner over Detroit on Dec 25, 2009.

While remaining the potent figurehead of al-Qaida, bin Laden turned its core leadership from an organization that executed complex team-based attacks into a propaganda hub that cultivated affiliated groups to organize and strike on their own. With his long grey beard and wistful expression, bin Laden became one of the most instantly recognizable people on the planet, his gaunt face staring out from propaganda videos and framed on a U.S. website offering a $25 million bounty.

Officials say U.S. authorities have recovered bin Laden's body, ending the largest manhunt in history involving thousands of U.S. troops in Afghanistan and tens of thousands of Pakistani soldiers in the rugged mountains along the border.

Whether reviled as a terrorist and mass murderer or hailed as the champion of oppressed Muslims fighting injustice and humiliation, bin Laden changed the course of history.

ASYMMETRIC WARFARE

The United States and its allies rewrote their security doctrines, struggling to adjust from Cold War-style confrontation between states to a new brand of transnational "asymmetric warfare" against small cells of Islamist militants. Al=Qaida's weapons were not tanks, submarines and aircraft carriers but the everyday tools of globalization and 21st century technology -- among them the Internet, which it eagerly exploited for propaganda, training and recruitment.

But, by his own account, not even bin Laden anticipated the full impact of using 19 suicide hijackers to turn passenger aircraft into guided missiles and slam them into buildings that symbolized U.S. financial and military power. Nearly 3,000 people died when two planes struck New York's World Trade Center, a third hit the Pentagon in Washington and a fourth crashed in a field in rural Pennsylvania after passengers rushed the hijackers. "Here is America struck by God Almighty in one of its vital organs," bin Laden said in a statement a month after the September 11 attacks, urging Muslims to rise up and join a global battle between "the camp of the faithful and the camp of the infidels." In video and audio messages over the next seven years, the al-Qaida leader goaded Washington and its allies. His diatribes lurched across a range of topics, from the war in Iraq to U.S. politics, the subprime mortgage crisis and even climate change.

A gap of nearly three years in his output of video messages revived speculation he might be gravely ill with a kidney problem or even have died, but bin Laden was back on screen in September 2007, telling Americans their country was vulnerable despite its economic and military power.

MILLIONAIRE FATHER

Born in Saudi Arabia in 1957, one of more than 50 children of millionaire businessman Mohamed bin Laden, he lost his father while still a boy -- killed in a plane crash, apparently due to an error by his American pilot. Osama's first marriage, to a Syrian cousin, came at the age of 17, and he is reported to have at least 23 children from at least five wives.

Part of a family that made its fortune in the oil-funded Saudi construction boom, bin Laden was a shy boy and an average student, who took a degree in civil engineering. He went to Pakistan soon after the 1979 Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, and raised funds at home before making his way to the Afghan front lines and developing militant training camps. According to some accounts, he helped form al-Qaida ("The Base") in the dying days of the Soviet occupation. A book by U.S. writer Steve Coll, "The Bin Ladens," suggested the death in 1988 of his extrovert half-brother Salem -- again in a plane crash -- was an important factor in Osama's radicalization.

Bin Laden condemned the presence in Saudi Arabia of U.S. troops sent to eject Iraqi forces from Kuwait after the 1990 invasion, and remained convinced that the Muslim world was the victim of international terrorism engineered by America. He called for a jihad against the United States, which had spent billions of dollars bankrolling the Afghan resistance in which he had fought.

TRAIL OF ATTACKS

Al-Qaida embarked on a trail of attacks, beginning with the 1993 World Trade Center bombing that killed six and first raised the specter of Islamist extremism spreading to the United States.

Bin Laden was the prime suspect in bombings of U.S. servicemen in Saudi Arabia in 1995 and 1996 as well as attacks on U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania in 1998 that killed 224. In October 2000, suicide bombers rammed into the USS Cole warship in Yemen, killing 17 sailors, and al-Qaida was blamed. Disowned by his family and stripped of Saudi citizenship, bin Laden had moved first to Sudan in 1991 and later resurfaced in Afghanistan before the Taliban seized Kabul in 1996. With his wealth, largesse and shared radical Muslim ideology, bin Laden soon eased his way into inner Taliban circles as they imposed their rigid interpretation of Islam. From Afghanistan, bin Laden issued religious decrees against U.S. soldiers and ran training camps where militants were groomed for a global campaign of violence.

Recruits were drawn from Central, South and Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Africa and even Europe by their common hatred of the United States, Israel and moderate Muslim governments, as well as a desire for a more fundamentalist brand of Islam. After the 1998 attacks on two of its African embassies, the United States fired dozens of cruise missiles at Afghanistan, targeting al-Qaida training camps. Bin Laden escaped unscathed. The Taliban paid a heavy price for sheltering bin Laden and his fighters, suffering a humiliating defeat after a U.S.-led invasion in the weeks after the September 11 attacks.

ESCAPE FROM TORA BORA

Al-Qaida was badly weakened, with many fighters killed or captured. Bin Laden vanished -- some reports say U.S. bombs narrowly missed him in late 2001 as he and his forces slipped out of Afghanistan's Tora Bora mountains and into Pakistan.

But the start of the Iraq war in 2003 produced a fresh surge of recruits for al-Qaida due to opposition to the U.S. invasion within Muslim communities around the world, analysts say. Apparently protected by the Afghan Taliban in their northwest Pakistani strongholds, bin Laden also built ties to an array of south Asian militant groups and backed a bloody revolt by the Pakistani Taliban against the Islamabad government.

Amid a reinvigorated al-Qaida propaganda push, operatives or sympathizers were blamed for attacks from Indonesia and Pakistan to Iraq, Turkey, Egypt, Kenya, Morocco, Algeria, Mauritania, Tunisia, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Spain, Britain and Somalia.

Tougher security in the West and killings of middle-rank Qaida men helped weaken the group, and some followers noted critically that the last successful al Qaida-linked strike in a Western country was the 2005 London bombings that killed 52.

But Western worries about radicalization grew following a string of incidents involving U.S.-based radicals in 2009-10 including an attempt to bomb New York's Times Square. In a 2006 audio message, bin Laden alluded to the U.S. hunt for him and stated his determination to avoid capture: "I swear not to die but a free man."

THAT's LIFE...Hamas/Muslim Brotherhood

Hamas: "We condemn the assassination and the killing of an Arab holy warrior. We ask God to offer him mercy with the true believers and the martyrs."
Peace partners. "Hamas condemns killing of 'holy warrior' bin Laden," by Dan Williams, with reporting by Nidal al-Mughrabi for Reuters, May 2:

[...] "We regard this as a continuation of the American policy based on oppression and the shedding of Muslim and Arab blood," Ismail Haniyeh, head of the Hamas administration in the Gaza Strip, told reporters.
Though he noted doctrinal differences between bin Laden's al Qaeda and Hamas, Haniyeh said: "We condemn the assassination and the killing of an Arab holy warrior. We ask God to offer him mercy with the true believers and the martyrs."

??? Jason there is no sense whatsoever to your below post.
Why would you think I would need Mitt to give me the "opportunity to travel" ???
Though it is none of your business, it does so happen that I have travelled much much more than most, and have been and seen everywhere in the world that I wanted to. In fact I am tired of travel, and am enjoying being at home in the best place in the world. :)

The Muslim Brotherhood

The Columbia Encyclopedia, Sixth Edition | 2008 | The Columbia Encyclopedia, Sixth Edition. Copyright 2008 Columbia University Press. (Hide copyright information) Copyright Muslim Brotherhood officially Jamiat al-Ikhwan al-Muslimun[Arab.,=Society of Muslim Brothers], religious and political organization founded (1928) in Egypt by Hasan al- Banna .

Early opposed to secular tendencies in Islamic nations, the organization has sought to foster a return to the original precepts of theQur'an . It grew rapidly, establishing an educational, economic, military, and political infrastructure. Threatened by its power, Egypt's government twice banned (1948, 1954) the organization. It has since existed largely as a clandestine but militant group, marked by its rejection of Western influences.

The Muslim Brotherhood remains strong in Egypt, Syria, Sudan, and other Arab countries and has resorted to acts of political violence. It was permitted to operate openly in Egypt in the late 1980s and early 90s after disavowing violence in the 1970s, but the government again moved against the group beginning in the mid-1990s.

Members have been elected to Egypt's parliament as independents, and in 2005 candidates linked to the group won a fifth of the seats in parliament, a record. Egypt subsequently mounted a new crackdown on the group, beginning in late 2006, and in 2007 the nation's constitution was amended to religious-based political parties.

In Jordan the Muslim Brotherhood's political arm, the Islamic Action Front, is an important opposition party. The Muslim Brotherhood has given rise to a number of more militant and violent organizations, such as Hamas , Gama'a al-Islamiya, and Islamic Jihad.

Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt

Tuesday, 10 June 2008
The Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood, Egyptian largest opposition movement, was the target of a detention campaign by Egyptian police and said the aim is to disrupt Islamist preparations for local elections in last April 8th

Here are some facts about the Muslim Brotherhood, often cited as a model for Islamist movements in Arab countries.

Charismatic schoolteacher Hassan al-Banna founded the Brotherhood in the Suez Canal town of Ismailia in 1928, partly in response to the British occupation of Egypt. It was one of the first and most successful movements advocating Islam as a political programme in a modern context. Within 20 years the movement had grown to have more than 100,000 members, with several branch movements in other Arab countries.
-- The Brotherhood once had a secret paramilitary section but it now says it is committed to promoting its policies through non-violent and democratic means.
The Egyptian government, which sees the Brotherhood as the greatest threat to its survival, has failed to prove any serious act of violence by the Brotherhood leadership for more than 50 years.

-- Brotherhood leaders argue that after social and economic reforms and given the freedom to choose most Egyptians would willingly embrace a form of Islamic law.

-- Egypt’s government has repeatedly denied the Brotherhood the right to form a political party, arguing that the constitution, which the Egyptian government wrote, bans religious parties.
The Brotherhood in turn has said it will not seek recognition as a party under procedures which it rejects as authoritarian.

-- The Egyptian government banned the Brotherhood in 1954 after accusing the group of trying to assassinate President Gamal Abdel Nasser, a charge the Brotherhood has always denied. A long period of repression began to ease under President Anwar Sadat in the 1970s.
The ban formally remains in place but the Brotherhood operates openly within limits that vary at the whim of the authorities. It has an office in Cairo and its members can stand in elections without disguising their affiliation.

-- In the parliamentary elections of 2005, which took place under U.S. pressure for political liberalization, members won one fifth of the seats in parliament, more than any opposition group has held since the overthrow of the monarchy in 1952.

-- In the absence of systematic polling in Egypt, no one has a clear idea how much popularity the Brotherhood enjoys. But the group does have an extensive and well-organized network of committed organizers and has won public support through the charitable work of its professional members. They are also influential in professional organizations such as the doctors' and lawyers' syndicates.

-- Government and ruling party officials have been looking for legal ways to reduce the political role of the Brotherhood, official sources say. But in the absence of a workable plan, the government has relied on the police to disrupt the movement's activities. Members can expect to be detained for long periods without trial or charge, especially when elections are imminent.

-- About 450 members of the Brotherhood are now in custody, most of them held over the last few months.

EGYPT NEWS
Hassan Banna, founder of the Muslim Brotherhood
Hassan al-Banna (October 14, 1906 – February 12, 1949,) was an Egyptian social and political reformer, best known for founding the Muslim Brotherhood, one of the largest and most influential 20th century Muslim revivalist organizations.
Al-Banna's leadership was critical to the growth of the brotherhood during the 1930s and 1940s.
Early Life
He was born in Mahmudiyya, in southern Egypt. His father, Shaykh Ahmad al-Banna, was a respected local imam (prayer leader) and mosque teacher of the Hanbali rite, educated at Al-Azhar University, who wrote and collaborated on books on Muslim traditions, and also had a shop where he repaired watches and sold gramophones.

Though Shaykh Ahmad al Banna and his wife they were not wealthy and struggled to make ends meet, particularly after they moved to Cairo in 1924.
They found that Islamic learning and piety were no longer as highly valued in the capital, and that craftsmanship could not compete with large-scale industry.
When Hassan al-Banna was twelve years old, he became involved in a Sufi order, and became a fully initiated member in 1922.
At the age of thirteen, he participated in demonstrations during the revolution of 1919 against British rule.
The Dar al-Ulum Years
In 1923, at the age of 16, Al-Banna moved to Cairo to enter the Dar al-Ulum college. Life in the capital offered him a greater range of activities than the village and the opportunity to meet prominent Islamic scholars (in large measure thanks to his father's acquaintances), but he was deeply disturbed by effects of Westernization he saw there, particularly the rise of secularism and the breakdown of traditional morals.

The four years that Al-Banna spent in Cairo exposed him to the political ferment of the Egyptian capital in the early 1920s, and enhanced his awareness of the extent to which secular and Western ways had penetrated the very fabric of society. It was then that Al-Banna became particularly preoccupied with what he saw as the young generation's drift away from Islam.

He believed that the battle for the hearts and minds of the youth would prove critical to the survival of a religion besieged by a Western onslaught. While studying in Cairo, he immersed himself in the writings of the founders of Islamic reformism, including the Egyptian Muhammad 'Abduh, under whom his father had studied while at Al-Azhar. But it was 'Abduh's disciple, the Syrian Rashid Rida, who most influenced Al-Banna. Al-Banna was a dedicated reader of Al-Manar, the magazine that Rida published in Cairo from 1898 until his death in 1935.

He shared Rida's central concern with the decline of Islamic civilization relative to the West. He too believed that this trend could be reversed only by returning to an unadulterated form of Islam, free from all the accretions that had diluted the strength of its original message. Like Rida at the end of his life — but unlike 'Abduh and other Islamic modernists — Al-Banna felt that the main danger to Islam's survival in the modern age stemmed less from the conservatism of Al-Azhar and the Ulema (which he nevertheless criticized) than from the ascendancy of Western secular ideas.

He was equally disappointed with what he saw as the failure of the Islamic scholars of al-Azhar University to voice their opposition to the rise of atheism and to the influence of Christian missionaries.

In his last year at Dar al-Ulum, he wrote that he had decided to dedicate himself to becoming "a counselor and a teacher" of adults and children, in order to teach them "the objectives of religion and the sources of their well-being and happiness in life". He graduated in 1927 and was given a position as an Arabic language teacher in a state primary school in Ismailia, a provincial town located in the Suez Canal Zone.

EGYPT NEWS
Banna and establishment of the Muslim Brotherhood
It was to spread this message that Al-Banna launched the Society of the Muslim Brothers in March 1928. At first, the society was only one of the numerous small Islamic associations that existed at the time. Similar to those that Al-Banna himself had joined since he was 12, these associations aimed to promote personal piety and engaged in charitable activities. By the late 1930s, it had established branches in every Egyptian province. A decade later, it had 500,000 active members and as many sympathizers in Egypt alone, while its appeal was now felt in several other countries as well. The society's growth was particularly pronounced after Al-Banna relocated its headquarters to Cairo in 1932.

The single most important factor that made this dramatic expansion possible was the organizational and ideological leadership provided by Al-Banna.
In Ismailia, in addition to his day classes, he carried out his intention of giving night classes to his pupils' parents. He also preached in the mosque, and even in coffee-houses, which were then a novelty and were generally viewed as morally suspect. At first, some of his views on relatively minor points of Islamic practice led to strong disagreements with the local religious élite, and he adopted the policy of avoiding religious controversies.

He was appalled by the many conspicuous signs of foreign military and economic domination in Ismailia: the British military camps, the public utilities owned by foreign interests, and the luxurious residences of the foreign employees of the Suez Canal Company, next to the squalid dwellings of the Egyptian workers.
Political Activity
He endeavored to bring about the changes he hoped for through institution-building, relentless activism at the grassroots level, and a reliance on mass communication. He proceeded to build a complex mass movement that featured sophisticated governance structures; sections in charge of furthering the society's values among peasants, workers, and professionals; units entrusted with key functions, including propagation of the message, liaison with the Islamic world, and press and translation; and specialized committees for finances and legal affairs.

In anchoring this organization into Egyptian society, Al-Banna relied on pre-existing social networks, in particular those built around mosques, Islamic welfare associations, and neighborhood groups. This weaving of traditional ties into a distinctively modern structure was at the root of his success. Directly attached to the brotherhood, and feeding its expansion, were numerous businesses, clinics, and schools. In addition, members were affiliated to the movement through a series of cells, revealingly called usar (families. singular: Usrah).

The material, social and psychological support thus provided were instrumental to the movement's ability to generate enormous loyalty among its members and to attract new recruits. The services and organizational structure around which the society was built were intended to enable individuals to reintegrate into a distinctly Islamic setting, shaped by the society's own principles.
Rooted in Islam, Al-Banna's message tackled issues including colonialism, public health, educational policy, natural resources management, Marxism, social inequalities, Arab nationalism, the weakness of the Islamic world on the international scene, and the growing conflict in Palestine.
By emphasizing concerns that appealed to a variety of constituencies, Al-Banna was able to recruit from among a cross-section of Egyptian society — though modern-educated civil servants, office employees, and professionals remained dominant among the organization's activists and decision makers.

Last Days and Assassination
Between 1948 and 1949, shortly after the society sent volunteers to fight in the war in Palestine, the conflict between the monarchy and the society reached its climax. Concerned with the increasing assertiveness and popularity of the brotherhood, as well as with rumors that it was plotting a coup, Prime Minister Mahmoud an-Nukrashi Pasha disbanded it in December 1948. The organization's assets were impounded and scores of its members sent to jail. Less than three weeks later, the prime minister was assassinated by a member of the brotherhood. This in turn prompted the assassination of Al-Banna, presumably by a government agent, in February 1949, when Al-Banna was still only 43 and at the height of his career.
Legacy
Hassan al-Banna is known to have great impact in the modern Islamic thought.
He is the grandfather of Tariq Ramadan and older brother of Gamal al-Banna.

The Muslim Brotherhood's Propaganda in Action
The Muslim Brotherhood (MB), the best funded Islamist organization is heightening its offensive in advance of the 2008 presidential elections, taking advantage of the political uncertainty and opposition to the current Administration’s defense policies against radical Muslim terrorist organizations and states.

Incredibly, “Hear Out the Muslim Brotherhood,” an op-ed in the Boston Globe on Sunday March 25, portrayed the outlawed Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood as a reforming tool to promote democracy and stability there and throughout the Middle East, and praises the MB for “surviving” decades of oppression by previous Egyptian regimes.

However, a referendum on March 26, 2007 in Egypt banned ”the creation of political parties based on religion.” The MB, the biggest opposition group boycotted the vote and later criticized the results because of low voter turnout.

The MB, illegal in Egypt, Libya and Syria, operates in at least 70 countries-- is busy preparing the grounds to establish Islamic global dominance, successfully using Western democracy to legally inject themselves into the political process, while using the free media to portray themselves as reformers, and protest any attempt to limit their subversive activities. Indeed, even the Wall Street Journal agrees that the MB “has become something of a default opposition. ” Criticizing Egypt’s president Hosni Mubarak, for the latest crackdown on the MB, the journal declared, “Not even a modern-day Pharaoh can forbid people from gathering in mosques.”

The Journal recognized that “free elections are no guarantee that liberals will win.” HAMAS takeover of the Palestinian Authority is a recent reminder. But since “[P]ast attempts to suppress the Brotherhood have only increased its popularity,” the Journal disapproves of Mubark’s crackdown, and laments the U.S. “weak criticism,” since “tolerating authoritarian regimes in the interest of "stability" ensures that liberals will always lose.” Similar arguments were made by Human Rights Watch, which also demanded the immediate release of hundreds of Muslim Brothers from Egyptian prisons.

In addition to the Globe, Foreign Affairs and the New York Times have lately also run apologias for the Muslim Brotherhood. In “Strategic Thinking about the Muslim Brotherhood,” published in the March/April edition of Foreign Affairs, Robert Leiken and Steven Brooke argued that “the differences between the Brotherhood and the jihadists abound, and it is imperative to differentiate them…[thus] we should begin to explore whether the moderate current of the Muslim Brotherhood is a worthy interlocutor.”

Meanwhile, The New York Times is busy whitewashing one of the MB’s most corrosive European leaders, Tariq Ramadan who was barred last September from the U.S. because he funded Hamas - the Palestinian brunch of the MB, and U.S. designated terrorist organization. Ramadan’s protest was published last October in The Washington Post. In it, Ramadan declared that unlike the enlightened Europeans who allow criticism, especially regarding the war on terrorism, "the U.S. government's paranoia has evolved far beyond a fear of particular individuals and taken on a much more insidious form: the fear of ideas.”

But Ramadan’s "ideas" and influence among Muslims are nothing to sneeze at. Indeed, his association to and direct involvementwith al-Qaeda operatives in Europe, Africa and the Middle East is well documented by Spanish and French courts.

That information, however, seem to have escaped the attention of U.S. media outlets that keep singing Ramadan praises. Lately, The New York Times seems to be serving as Ramadan’s mouthpiece.

A lengthy favorable profile of Ramadan’s appeared in the February 4, 2007, NYT Sunday magazine. At the end of the 5,181 word article, “Tariq Ramadan Has an Identity Issue,” Ian Burama concluded: “Ramadan offers a different way… values that are as universal as those of the European Enlightenment… these values are neither secular, nor always liberal, but they are not part of a holy war against Western democracy either. His politics offer an alternative to violence, which, in the end, is reason enough to engage with him, critically, but without fear.”

Further arguments on Ramadan’s behalf were made in the April 1, 2007 New York Times Book Review, by Stephanie Giry. Praising Ramadan’s latest book -- tellingly titled “In the Footsteps of the Prophet” -- Giry recommends, “Taking him [Ramadan] literally could be one way to get beyond his critics' accusations, as well as the paranoid legalism of the State Department.” Moreover, she finds “Ramadan's universalist, apolitical view of Islam” as the “the pragmatic resolution of social frictions.”

This willful blindness to Ramadan’s agenda to globalize the Shari’a and establish the Caliphate is so prevailing, that the media apparently chose to ignore his arrest on March 13, 2007, at Charles de Gaulle International Airport, for “insulting a public agent.” The incident was reported only by this Blog, while the international media kept mum. A week later, a local Swiss newspaperTribune de Genève, reported the story with Ramadan’s complain, “he had to spend the whole night in a dirty cell because of the police “overzealousness”.” Ramadan, who faces up to 6 months of imprisonment and a fine of 7,500, is expected to be sentenced by a criminal court on April 6.

And Ramadan does not work alone. Feeding his arguments, the MB’s Ikhwan English website, developed in late 2006, runs articles promoting the “benevolence” of the movement and the MB’s “ reform and moderation,” and praises multiculturalism as the way to proliferate Islam.

On the MB Arabic website, however, their leader Mahdi Akef, in his February 22 weekly address, reassured his followers that “the jihad will lead to smashing Western civilization and replacing it with Islam which will dominate the world.”

Moreover, Akef decreed that in the event that Muslims cannot achieve this goal in the near future, “Muslims are obliged to continue the jihad that will cause the collapse of Western civilization and the ascendance of the Muslim civilization on its ruins.”

Akef further declared that “the Western offensive against Islam,” is failing. His evidence: “the failure the American war machine to break the rock of the Iraqi opposition, the difficulties facing the coalition forces in Afghanistan, and the military defeat of the Israeli armed forces in Lebanon and against the Palestinians.” Hence, Akef called on the Arabs and Muslims to continue their terrorist attacks against the U.S. and Israel “until they withdraw completely from the Middle East.”

Akef’s decrees and ideas of global Islamic domination are not new. They were established by Muslim Brotherhood founder Hassan al-Banna in 1928, and can be found on ummah.net/ikhwan.

The MB states its goals under the heading “Establishing the Islamic government,” outlining the specific guidelines to achieve them. The MB instructions include: “Preparing the society is achieved through plans for: spreading the Islamic culture, the possible media means, mosques, and Da’awa [inviting others to Islam, an obligatory duty for Muslims], work in public organizations such as syndicates, parliaments, student unions.”

In January 2006, the Palestinian branch of the Muslim Brotherhood – Hamas, took over the Palestinian Authority and gave the MB its first field test of grabbing power via democracy, to then enforce Shari’a law.

Hamas’ “accommodation” of the unity government ratified on March 17, without recognizing Israel and reiterating the Palestinian’s “right” to “violently resist the occupation,” is akin to the Iraqi’s right to violently resist the U.S. and U.K. forces there. A ringing endorsement was published by the U.S. based pro-Hamas, virulently anti-American, al-Jazeerah Info, on March 26. Indeed, defeating Israel, the U.S. and the U.K. serve the overriding MB purpose of overthrowing all secular governments and imposing global Islamic law (Shari’a).

Evidence of Muslim Brotherhood violence, repression and authoritarianism upon taking power is abundant in the Hamas-controlled Palestinian Authority. A recent report by The Australian, documents the “Strict observance of Sunni Islam, through the rigid enforcement of radical Islamic law, espoused by the global jihad network that follows the bin Laden worldview,” which has taken hold there.

In February, six Rafah pharmacists were attacked for selling Viagra to youths. And in March, at least eight women accused of immoral behavior and fraternizing with men outside their immediate families were hunted down and assassinated because “death gave them honor that their conduct in life had not.”

A ninth victim who survived multiple gunshots stated from her hospital bed that she recognized her tormentors as members of the Hamas executive force. “So long as Hamas is in Gaza, the situation will keep developing,” she stated.

Since Hamas, apart from Al Qaeda, is the most active branch of the Muslim Brotherhood, stating, “The Brotherhood has consistently demonstrated a long-term commitment to working peacefully…” is evidently false and misleading. However, unless the funds for the MB cut off, their propaganda machine will keep getting better and bigger.

THAT's LIFE... "Leaving Islam?" bus campaign

DETROIT Appeals Free Speech Ruling, "Leaving Islam?" Bus Ads Won't Run Yet, As Michigan Girl Gets Honor Murdered For "Not Following Islam"

As you know, we won our lawsuit against Detroit SMART (transit) to run our bus ads helping Muslims living in dangerous domestic situations. Our "Leaving Islam?" bus campaign was designed for girls like Rifqa Bary and Jessica Mokdad and Noor Almaleki and Amaina and Sarah Said and any one of these individuals....

Apostasy is punishable by death, and we are seeing a spike in these horrific murders in the West.
We won our case against Detroit, and our ads were supposed to be up by now, but the city appealed, and we are back in court.
Perhaps if our bus campaign ran, maybe Jessica Mokdad would be alive today. Shame on the city of Detroit, shame on you. How do they look at themselves in the mirror?

20-year-old Woman Dead; Stepfather Charged with Murder: MyFoxDETROIT.com
Honor Killing in Michigan: Rahim Alfetlawi Murders Step-Daughter Jessica Mokdad for Not Following Islam
But no. the city, with your taxpayer dollars, is appealing our free speech victory on behalf of Iaslamic supremacists and the imposition of the sharia. Detroit SMART (transit) is appealing the Preliminary Injunction ordering SMART to run ourad. SMART filed a motion to “stay the proceedings” while they appeal for the obvious reason that if they can’t stay the order, the ads go up and will run long before the appeal is heard.

Why are they fighting so hard to subjugate those who have no voice, no way out? Eqyal rights for all, you evil clowns.
Back on April 2, I happily announced that we had won in our year-long struggle against the violation of our first amendment rights in Dearborn/Detroit after they refused AFDI/SIOA's bus ads offering assistance to apostates under death fatwas. Thousands of Muslims who have left Islam have been murdered under the sharia (Islamic law). We have seen an increase in honor killings in the United States, and resources for Muslims are limited as the threat comes not just from the family but many times from the mosque and the community.

Despite the fact that we won and free speech prevailed, Detroit Transit is appealing the ruling. Your taxpayer dollars are being used to enforce the sharia. Ghastly. After the court ruled in our favor, we submitted the new contracts to CBS. But late last week, SMART filed an emergency motion to ask the court to stay its order so that SMART can appeal. To get the court to stay its own order, they must show that the court totally blew the call and SMART has a high probability of succeeding on its appeal. Keep in mind the court granted our initial relief because the court found I had a “likelihood of success.” Essentially this is SMART appeal is attempting to call a mulligan, seeking a second and third bite at the apple.

The bottom line is they will also lose the appeal if the facts and law mean anything.

ISSUE PRESENTED
Whether this court should grant Defendants’ request to stay enforcement of the preliminary injunction pending their interlocutory appeal to the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit when Defendants have no chance of success on the merits of their appeal, when Plaintiffs have been and continue to be irreparably harmed by Defendants’ unlawful restriction of their First Amendment rights, and when the public interest supports the enforcement of the injunction.

INTRODUCTION
Defendants’ motion is without merit and should be summarily denied. Defendants are simply delaying the inevitable (and wasting valuable judicial resources and causing further irreparable harm in the process) by rehashing the same arguments that were previously rejected by this court. Defendants’ latest motion asks this court to ignore sworn testimony that is dispositive, to disregard the controlling case law, and to credit their utterly false contention that “the parties are in agreement that Plaintiffs’ advertisements are political advertisements.” (Defs.’ Mot. at 8). This last contention—refuted, no less, by the sworn testimony of Defendants’ Fed. R. Civ. P. 30(b)(6) witness and the advertisement itself—is a feckless attempt to create an issue where none exists. Plaintiffs’ advertisement, which expresses a religious freedom message on its face, is substantively similar to the atheist message that was accepted by Defendants and maintained on Defendants’ buses even after the atheist message subjected the buses to vandalism. Defendants continue to maintain their position that the atheist message was acceptable under the applicable policy (see Defs.’ Mot. at 6-7, 9), which, as this court properly concluded, is unconstitutional in that “there is nothing in the policy that can guide a government official to distinguish between permissible and impermissible advertisements in a non-arbitrary fashion.” (Order Granting Pls.’ Mot. for Prelim. Inj. at 8) (Doc. No. 24) (hereinafter “Order”). In sum, Defendants cannot escape the facts of this case nor the controlling law which compel this court to deny their motion.
ARGUMENT
I. DEFENDANTS CANNOT MEET THE HEAVY BURDEN REQUIRED FOR GRANTING A STAY PENDING APPEAL.
Defendants request a stay of this court’s Order granting Plaintiffs’ motion for a preliminary injunction pending appeal of that order to the United States Court of Appeals for the
4
Case 2:10-cv-12134-DPH-MJH Document 32 Filed 05/03/11 Page 5 of 16
Sixth Circuit. This court granted Plaintiffs’ motion after both parties had an opportunity to present evidence and live testimony at the hearing held on July 13, 2010. Defendants carry a heavy burden in their effort to stay this court’s ruling, particularly when such a stay will have the effect of causing further irreparable harm to Plaintiffs and is overwhelmingly contrary to the public interest.
This court’s ruling, which is essentially “appeal proof” in that it relies on controlling law and undisputed facts—facts derived principally from Defendants’ designated Rule 30(b)(6) witness—will be given great deference by the appellate court upon its review. As the Sixth Circuit stated,
This court reviews a challenge to the grant or denial of a preliminary injunction under an abuse of discretion standard and accords great deference to the decision of the district court. The district court’s determination will be disturbed only if the district court relied upon clearly erroneous findings of fact, improperly applied the governing law, or used an erroneous legal standard.
Blue Cross & Blue Shield Mut. of Ohio v. Blue Cross & Blue Shield Ass’n, 110 F.3d 318, 322 (6th Cir. 1997) (emphasis added).
In sum, Defendants’ appeal is futile and thus a stay in this court would be improper. And
this is particularly true in light of the important First Amendment interests at stake.
II. THE RELEVANT FACTORS WEIGH STRONGLY AGAINST GRANTING THE REQUESTED STAY.
In deciding whether to issue the requested stay, this court considers the following:
(1) whether the stay applicant has made a strong showing that he is likely to succeed on the merits; (2) whether the applicant will be irreparably injured absent a stay; (3) whether issuance of the stay will substantially injure the other parties interested in the proceeding; and (4) where the public interest lies.
Hilton v. Braunskill, 481 U.S. 770, 776 (1987). Upon application of these factors, this court should deny Defendants’ motion.
5
Case 2:10-cv-12134-DPH-MJH Document 32 Filed 05/03/11 Page 6 of 16
A. Defendants Cannot Make a “Strong Showing” of Success on the Merits.
In its Order, this court concluded that Plaintiffs demonstrated a “strong likelihood” of success on their First Amendment claim. (Order at 7-8) (“There is a strong likelihood that Plaintiffs could succeed in demonstrating that Defendant[s’] decision not to run the advertisement was not reasonable, but rather arbitrary and capricious.”). Consequently, Defendants invite this court to completely reverse itself without presenting any new law or facts. Defendants’ invitation should be rejected.
While Plaintiffs dispute the court’s conclusion that the forum at issue is a “nonpublic forum,”1 the analysis the court applied for speech restrictions in a nonpublic forum was correct. In order for a speech regulation in a nonpublic forum to withstand constitutional challenge it must be “reasonable and not an effort to suppress expression merely because public officials oppose the speaker’s view.” (Order at 5) (quoting Perry Educ. Ass’n v. Perry Local Educators, 460 U.S. 37, 46 (1983)). As a matter of law, a speech restriction that permits arbitrary and capricious application is not reasonable. As this court properly noted in its Order, “Under Sixth Circuit law, ‘[t]he absence of clear standards guiding the discretion of the public officials vested with the authority to enforce the enactment invites abuse by enabling the official to administer the policy on the basis of impermissible factors.’” (Order at 8) (quoting United Food & Commercial Workers Union, Local 1099 v. Southwest Ohio Reg’l Transit Auth., 163 F.3d 341,
1 Plaintiffs argued that the forum is a designated public forum because Defendants willingly accepted an atheist advertisement that was controversial and generated conflict in the community. See United Food & Commercial Workers Union, Local 1099 v. Southwest Ohio Reg’l Transit Auth., 163 F.3d 341, 355 (6th Cir. 1998) (concluding that the bus advertising space was a public forum and stating that the acceptance of advertisements “which by their very nature generate conflict, signals a willingness on the part of the government to open the property to controversial speech”). As the Supreme Court explained, “[A] public forum may be created by government designation of a place or channel of communication for use by the public at large for assembly and speech, for use by certain speakers, or for the discussion of certain subjects.” Cornelius v. NAACP Legal Def. & Educ. Fund, 473 U.S. 788, 802 (1985) (emphasis added).
6
Case 2:10-cv-12134-DPH-MJH Document 32 Filed 05/03/11 Page 7 of 16
359 (6th Cir. 1998)); see also Forsyth Cnty. v. Nationalist Movement, 505 U.S. 123, 130 (1992) (“A government regulation that allows arbitrary application . . . has the potential for becoming a means of suppressing a particular point of view.”). Thus, Defendants cannot refute the conclusion that this court properly applied the governing law.
Turning now to the undisputed facts of this case, it is evident that Defendants’ decision to reject Plaintiffs’ advertisement was arbitrary and capricious and simply an effort to suppress Plaintiffs’ view. Indeed, there were no objective standards applied by Defendants to deny Plaintiffs’ advertisement. Defendant Gibbons, who was testifying on behalf of SMART pursuant to Rule 30(b)(6),2 testified at the hearing as follows:
2 It is important to recognize the significance of testimony provided under Fed. R. Civ. P. 30(b)(6). In United States v. Taylor, 166 F.R.D. 356 (M.D.N.C. 1996), the court provided the following comprehensive explanation regarding the testimony of a Rule 30(b)(6) witness:
The testimony elicited at the Rule 30(b)(6) deposition represents the knowledge of the corporation, not of the individual deponents. The designated witness is “speaking for the corporation,” and this testimony must be distinguished from that of a “mere corporate employee” whose deposition is not considered that of the corporation and whose presence must be obtained by subpoena. Obviously it is not literally possible to take the deposition of a corporation; instead, when a corporation is involved, the information sought must be obtained from natural persons who can speak for the corporation. The corporation appears vicariously through its designee. If the persons designated by the corporation do not possess personal knowledge of the matters set out in the deposition notice, the corporation is obligated to prepare the designees so that they may give knowledgeable and binding answers for the corporation. Thus, the duty to present and prepare a Rule 30(b)(6) designee goes beyond matters personally known to that designee or to matters in which that designee was personally involved.
The Rule 30(b)(6) designee does not give his personal opinions. Rather, he presents the corporation’s “position” on the topic. Moreover, the designee must not only testify about facts within the corporation’s knowledge, but also its subjective beliefs and opinions. The corporation must provide its interpretation of documents and events. The designee, in essence, represents the corporation just as an individual represents him or herself at a deposition. Were it otherwise, a corporation would be able to deceitfully select at trial the most convenient answer presented by a number of fingerpointing witnesses at the depositions. Truth would suffer.

Q: So in fact, there is no policy or guideline or training manual or anything else that would set out why [Plaintiffs’ advertisement] is political [and thus impermissible] and the Atheist Ad is not political [and thus permitted]?
A. Right. (Tr. of Hr’g on Mot. for Prelim. Inj. at 15) (Doc. No. 18) (hereinafter “Tr.”).
Defendant Gibbons also admitted during her testimony that when she examined Plaintiffs’ proposed advertisement (i.e., its “four corners”), she found nothing about the ad itself that was political.3 She testified as follows:
Q: So when you examined [Plaintiffs’] ad, there was nothing about the ad itself that was political?
A: Correct. (Tr. at 10).
With regard to how Defendants decide whether or not an advertisement is permissible, Defendant Gibbons’ testimony reveals that SMART’s practices and procedures are haphazard and inconsistent. For example, Defendant Gibbons admitted that she did not look to anything extrinsic to the atheist advertisement to determine whether it was permissible—she looked only at its “four corners.” (Tr. at 6-7). However, she denied Plaintiffs’ advertisement based solely on a news story in the Miami Herald, indicating that when Plaintiffs ran a similar advertisement in Florida, it was controversial. (Tr. at 10, 17, 19, 22). Thus, Defendants did not use the same practice and procedure for Plaintiffs’ advertisement as they used for the atheist advertisement.
Id. at 361 (internal quotations, punctuation, and citations omitted). 3 Consequently, contrary to Defendants’ naked and unsupported assertion that “the parties are in agreement that Plaintiffs’ advertisements are political advertisements” (Defs.’ Mot. at 8), the irrefutable facts evidence that even Defendants understood that the content of Plaintiffs’ advertisement was not and is not “political or political campaign advertising.” (See Order at 3 (quoting “Restriction on Content”); see also Order at 9 (noting that “the advertisement in Lehman [v. City of Shaker Heights, 418 U.S. 298 (1974)] was clearly political advertising, promoting a specific candidate for an upcoming election”)).
8
Case 2:10-cv-12134-DPH-MJH Document 32 Filed 05/03/11 Page 9 of 16
As noted above, based on the “four corners” of Plaintiffs’ advertisement, Defendants concluded that it was not political and, therefore, should have allowed it to run. (Tr. at 10).
Indeed, the Miami Herald article4 referenced by Defendant Gibbons does not report on the political content of Plaintiffs’ advertisement. And the only matter referenced by Defendant Gibbons in her direct testimony was not related to the advertisement’s content, but the “controversy” over whether the Miami transit authority would run it, which they did and without incident. (See Tr. at 25). Defendant Gibbons testified as follows:
Q: I would like to change topics now, Ms. Gibbons, and ask you one or two questions following up on a question that Mr. Yerushalmi asked you regarding the political content of the FDI ad. In both reading the controversy surrounding the Miami Dade Transit issue, can you tell us whether you were able to determine that the FDI ad was political?
A: I knew that it was of concern in that there is controversy on both sides of the issue on whether they should be posted or shouldn’t be posted.
(Tr. at 19). In other words, Defendant Gibbons reacted to a newspaper article’s rendering of a question raised about whether the Miami transit authority would run the advertisement—not whether the advertisement itself represented a “political” advertisement.
Defendant Gibbons further testified that the only basis for rejecting Plaintiffs’ advertisement was this single news article—literally nothing else—not the advertisement’s subject matter, not its content, and not any report of “adverse effects” arising from the running of the advertisement in Miami or anywhere else:
Q: You indicated that as a result of a newspaper article, you determined that [Plaintiffs’] ad was political?
A: That it was a political issue, yes. Q: You had already testified earlier that the content was not political but that you
looked at what occurred in Miami? A: Correct.
4 A copy of this article was previously marked during the July 13, 2010, hearing as Defendants’ Exhibit J. (See Tr. at 18). For ease of reference, it is attached to this response as Exhibit 1.
9
Case 2:10-cv-12134-DPH-MJH Document 32 Filed 05/03/11 Page 10 of 16
Q: And all you know about what occurred in Miami is the article that you looked at earlier that you referenced?
A: Yes. (Tr. at 23).
The dilemma for Defendants’ argument, of course, is that there is nothing in the news article itself—even assuming its content was legitimately and constitutionally relevant to Defendants’ decision not to run Plaintiffs’ advertisement—to suggest that the content of the advertisement was political. The news article merely quotes a single Muslim organization objecting to the viewpoint of the advertisement. (Miami Herald Article at Ex. 1). The First Amendment cannot wilt simply because a single voice in a news article takes issue with the viewpoint of another’s protected speech.5 It is precisely the speech/counter-speech dialogue the First Amendment seeks to promote. See generally N.Y. Times v. Sullivan, 376 U.S. 254, 270 (1964) (acknowledging “a profound national commitment to the principle that debate on public issues should be uninhibited, robust, and wide-open”).
Finally, there was no evidence presented anywhere in the record that violence, vandalism, or threats of violence or vandalism occurred as a result of Plaintiffs’ advertisement in Florida (or New York, for that matter). In fact, just the opposite. In all prior cities where the advertisement had run, there were zero incidences of violence or even the threat of violence. (Tr. at 25). And there was no evidence presented that Plaintiffs’ advertisement would subject SMART buses to violence or vandalism if they ran here in Michigan. Indeed, the only evidence of violence and vandalism presented in this case related to the atheist advertisement, which SMART accepted
5 Indeed, when denying Plaintiffs’ advertisement, Defendants equated “political” with “controversial.” (Tr. at 19) (answering the question as to whether she was “able to determine that [Plaintiffs’ advertisement] was political” by stating, “I [Defendant Gibbons] knew that it was of concern in that there is controversy on both sides of the issue on whether they should be posted or shouldn’t be posted”). Consequently, this is not a restriction based on content; it is a restriction based on viewpoint, which is impermissible in any forum.
10
Case 2:10-cv-12134-DPH-MJH Document 32 Filed 05/03/11 Page 11 of 16
and continued to run even after the violence and public controversy surrounding the advertisement came to light. (Tr. at 7-8, 11-12).
Defendants’ claim of error regarding the “scornful speech” issue is similarly misplaced. (Defs.’ Mot. at 9). Indeed, Defendants make the following verifiably false claim: “Although Plaintiffs’ counsel questioned Ms. Gibbons about the political nature of the advertisement, there was no clear testimony whatsoever, by any witness, as to whether the advertisement was considered scornful or disparaging to the adherents to Islam.” (Defs.’ Mot. at 10) (emphasis added). Contrary to Defendants’ bold assertion, Defendant Gibbons testified as follows:
Q: There is nothing in the ad that disparages or scorns any particular people? A: Correct, yes. I’m not sure. Court: You’re not sure whether it scorns any particular people; is that your
answer? A: Right.
(Tr. at 10-11) (emphasis added). Thus, it is evident that the court was paying close attention to the “scornful speech” issue
and properly concluded, based on Defendants’ very own testimony, that this was not a relevant factor. Indeed, this testimony simply verifies the correctness of the court’s ruling that Defendants’ speech restriction was arbitrary and capricious and thus unconstitutional.
In fact, Defendants’ entire argument on this point amounts to little more than unsupported assertions putatively proffered in their motion as a kind of replacement testimony for the actual sworn testimony of Defendant Gibbons. This ploy is unavailing as a rudimentary matter of the Rules of Evidence. See Fed. R. Evid. 602 & 603.
Moreover, it is important to note that the “scornful speech” policy itself is facially invalid in that it is a viewpoint-based restriction. See, e.g., Nieto v. Flatau, 715 F. Supp. 2d 650 (E.D.N.C. 2010) (holding that a speech restriction on a military base, a nonpublic forum, was viewpoint based as applied to anti-Islam speech in violation of the First Amendment).
11
Case 2:10-cv-12134-DPH-MJH Document 32 Filed 05/03/11 Page 12 of 16
Viewpoint discrimination is the most egregious form of content discrimination and is impermissible regardless of the nature of the forum. Rosenberger v. Rector & Visitors of the Univ. of Va., 515 U.S. 819, 829 (1995). Viewpoint discrimination occurs when the government “denies access to a speaker solely to suppress the point of view he espouses on an otherwise includible subject.” Cornelius, 473 U.S. at 806; Cogswell v. City of Seattle, 347 F.3d 809, 815 (9th Cir. 2003) (“[If speech] fall[s] within an acceptable subject matter otherwise included in the forum, the State may not legitimately exclude it from the forum based on the viewpoint of the speaker.”). As Defendants readily admit, “religion” constitutes an “otherwise includable subject” in the relevant forum. (Defs.’ Mot. at 9). Thus, to disagree with the viewpoint on Islam expressed by Plaintiffs is a prototypical viewpoint-based restriction, which itself violates the First Amendment. Consequently, Defendants’ argument does not help their cause; it only further strengthens the legitimacy of the court’s Order granting the injunction and provides yet another reason for denying Defendants’ motion for a stay.
B. Defendants Will Not Be Harmed by Denying the Requested Stay.
By denying the stay and enforcing this court’s Order so as to allow Plaintiffs to run their requested advertisement, Defendants will suffer no harm because the exercise of constitutionally protected expression can never harm any of Defendants’ or others’ legitimate interests. See Connection Distrib. Co. v. Reno, 154 F.3d 281, 288 (6th Cir. 1998).
Moreover, it is incorrect to say that the court’s preliminary injunction “provides full relief to Plaintiffs.” (Defs.’ Mot. at 11). While the preliminary injunction allows Plaintiffs to run the advertisement that they have been patiently waiting to run for over a year, in addition to nominal damages, the complaint also seeks a permanent injunction against Defendants’ unconstitutional
12
Case 2:10-cv-12134-DPH-MJH Document 32 Filed 05/03/11 Page 13 of 16
speech restriction, which would permit Plaintiffs to run other advertisements in the future. (Compl. at “Prayer for Relief”) (Doc. No. 1).
Finally, Defendants’ speculative assertion that running Plaintiffs’ advertisement will cause a “violent reaction . . . damage and vandalism” (Defs.’ Mot. at 12) is patently unfounded and flatly contradicts the factual record. (See Tr. at 25). The only evidence before this court of any violent reaction, damage, or vandalism was to the approved atheist advertisement that Defendants continued to run even after these “adverse effects.” (See Tr. at 7-8). There is no evidence whatsoever that Plaintiffs’ advertisement has ever caused a reaction anything like the approved atheist advertisement. Moreover, Defendants’ entire “violent reaction” argument is predicated upon Defendants’ somewhat bigoted belief that Muslims will respond criminally to Plaintiffs’ message. As noted, there is no evidence existing outside of Defendants’ imagination of this happening. Indeed, Plaintiffs have a history of running this advertisement, and if there was any evidence of such “adverse effects,” Defendants had ample opportunity to present this evidence to the court during the hearing on July 13, 2010. Defendants’ speculation does not substitute for evidence in the record—evidence that does not exist.
C. Plaintiffs Will Be Irreparably Harmed by Granting the Requested Stay.
It is well established that “[t]he loss of First Amendment freedoms, for even minimal periods of time, unquestionably constitutes irreparable injury.” Elrod v. Burns, 427 U.S. 347, 373 (1976); see also Connection Distributing Co., 154 F.3d at 288; Newsome v. Norris, 888 F.2d 371, 378 (6th Cir. 1989) (“The Supreme Court has unequivocally admonished that even minimal infringement upon First Amendment values constitutes irreparable injury sufficient to justify injunctive relief.” (citing Elrod)). The question of irreparable harm in this case is not even a close call.
13
Case 2:10-cv-12134-DPH-MJH Document 32 Filed 05/03/11 Page 14 of 16
Moreover, Defendants’ argument that Plaintiffs should find some other place to express their message (see Defs.’ Mot. at 14) has long been rejected by the U.S. Supreme Court, see Schneider v. New Jersey, 308 U.S. 147, 163 (1939) (“[O]ne is not to have the exercise of his liberty of expression in appropriate places abridged on the plea that it may be exercised in some other place.”), as it should be rejected here.
D. The Public Interest Lies in Denying the Stay.
As the Sixth Circuit noted, “[I]t is always in the public interest to prevent the violation of a party’s constitutional rights.” G & V Lounge, Inc. v. Michigan Liquor Control Comm’n, 23 F.3d 1071, 1079 (6th Cir. 1994); see also Dayton Area Visually Impaired Persons, Inc. v. Fisher, 70 F.3d 1474, 1490 (6th Cir. 1995) (stating that “the public as a whole has a significant interest in ensuring equal protection of the laws and protection of First Amendment liberties”). Consequently, the public interest lies in enforcing the preliminary injunction and denying Defendants’ motion for a stay.
In the final analysis, as this court stated in its Order, “[T]he Plaintiffs’ likelihood of success, the potential harm to Plaintiffs, and the potential harm to the public interest outweigh the speculative harm to SMART.” (Order at 10). That conclusion holds true here, thereby compelling this court to deny the motion for a stay.
CONCLUSION
Based on the foregoing, this court should deny Defendants’ motion.

THAT's LIFE... P.A.D

Postby Janadele » Sun May 08, 2011 8:10 am

P.A.D. is caused by a build-up of fatty deposits, or plaque, inside the arteries that carry oxygen and nutrients from the heart to the lower part of the body. When arteries become partly or completely blocked with plaque, atherosclerosis (ATH-ero-skla-RO-sis), or “hardening of the arteries,” occurs.

As plaque builds up inside vessel walls, it narrows the channel through which blood can flow. When blood flow is restricted or completely blocked, the delivery of oxygen and nutrients needed by your muscles and organs to function is slowed or, in the worst case, completely blocked.

Muscles and organs placed under additional stress, such as during exercise, need more oxygen and nutrients. But if the vessels are narrowed or blocked, the blood is unable to deliver sufficient quantities. Insufficient blood flow and oxygen to the muscles causes pain. When at rest, the pain goes away (unless severe blockage exists) because the muscles are receiving the blood and oxygen they need.

THAT's LIFE... Islam

Postby Janadele » Sun May 08, 2011 10:01 am

What is the truth about Islam in America?
As the debate intensifies on how to combat the threat of terrorism and how much focus is necessary on American Muslims, Newsmax takes an in-depth look in this special report, "The United States of Islam."

Are they middle class professionals or dangerous religious zealots?

Just how much does Shariah Law influence their lifestyles?

And how will they respond to the death of Osama bin Laden at the hands of American Special Ops Forces?

A fast-growing Muslim minority is making its voice heard in America. Some applaud the trend; while others worry that our traditional Judeo-Christian culture is at risk.

The report uncovers surprising facts about Islam in America — and dispels widely held notions about Muslims in the American melting pot.

PRESIDENT THOMAS S. MONSON OF THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER-DAY SAINTS DELIVERED THE COMMENCEMENT ADDRESS AT UTAH’S DIXIE STATE COLLEGE ON FRIDAY, 6 MAY 2011. HE ALSO RECEIVED AN HONORARY DOCTORATE DEGREE IN HUMANITIES.

PRESIDENT MONSON WAS INVITED TO DELIVER THE ADDRESS TO MARK THE 100TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE FOUNDING OF ST. GEORGE STAKE ACADEMY BY THE CHURCH, WHICH EVENTUALLY BECAME DIXIE STATE COLLEGE.

“IT IS A LITTLE DISTURBING TO REALIZE THAT DIXIE COLLEGE HAD EXISTED ONLY 16 YEARS WHEN I WAS BORN,” SAID PRESIDENT MONSON. “FOR THAT REASON, I AM CONFIDENT THAT MY 100 YEARS’ MEASUREMENT IS CONSIDERABLY SHORTER THAN YOURS.”

PRESIDENT MONSON BEGAN HIS ADDRESS BY RECOUNTING HOW THE LATE LARRY H. MILLER, SUCCESSFUL UTAH BUSINESS MAGNATE AND OWNER OF THE UTAH JAZZ, GAVE HIM A SCULPTURE THAT NOW SITS IN HIS OFFICE. THE SCULPTURE IS BASED ON A POEM CALLED “THE BRIDGEBUILDER,” BY WILL ALLEN DROMGOOLE.

“THE FIRST BRIDGE I WISH TO BUILD FOR YOU IS THE BRIDGE OF ATTITUDE,” SAID PRESIDENT MONSON. “ATTITUDE CAN MAKE ALL THE DIFFERENCE IN OUR LIVES, AND WE CONTROL OUR ATTITUDE. IT CAN MAKE US MISERABLE OR HAPPY, CONTENT OR DISSATISFIED. TO A GREAT DEGREE, IT CAN MAKE US STRONG OR WEAK,” HE SAID.

THE SECOND BRIDGE, HE TOLD THE GRADUATING CLASS, WAS INTEGRITY.
“PERHAPS THE SUREST TEST OF AN INDIVIDUAL’S INTEGRITY IS HIS OR HER REFUSAL TO DO OR SAY ANYTHING TO DAMAGE HIS OR HER SELF-RESPECT,” HE SAID. “THE CORNERSTONE OF ONE’S VALUE SYSTEM SHOULD BE THE QUESTION, “WHAT WILL I THINK OF MYSELF IF I DO THIS?”

PRESIDENT MONSON CONCLUDED WITH HIS THIRD BRIDGE: SERVICE. “THERE ARE OPPORTUNITIES TO SERVE WHICH ARE OPEN TO EVERYONE. THE BLIND AND THE HANDICAPPED NEED FRIENDSHIP; THE AGED ARE HUNGRY FOR COMPANIONSHIP; THE YOUNG NEED UNDERSTANDING GUIDANCE; THE GIFTED ARE STARVED FOR ENCOURAGEMENT. THESE BENEFITS CAN’T BE CONFERRED BY REACHING FOR YOUR CHECKBOOK. PERSONAL SERVICE IS DIRECT AND HUMAN,” HE SAID.

PRESIDENT MONSON TOLD THE GRADUATES THEIR LIVES WOULD BE FULLER, RICHER AND HAPPIER IF THEY LOOKED FOR OPPORTUNITIES TO SERVE. HE LEFT THEM WITH THIS SAGE ADVICE: “GRADUATES, AS YOU JOURNEY FORWARD TO MEET THE CHALLENGES LIFE HOLDS FOR YOU, REMEMBER AS YOU WALK OVER THE BRIDGE OF ATTITUDE TO CHOOSE HAPPINESS FOR YOURSELF. THAT HAPPINESS WILL MEAN LITTLE UNLESS YOU HAVE LEARNED TO WALK SURE-FOOTEDLY ON THE BRIDGE OF INTEGRITY WHERE, AT THE END OF THE DAY, YOU CAN FACE YOURSELF AND KNOW THAT YOU HAVE BEEN HONEST AND TRUE.”

THAT's LIFE... Terrorism

Postby Janadele » Mon May 09, 2011 9:10 pm

SAN FRANCISCO – The passengers sat stunned as they watched a man walk quickly toward the front of American Airlines Flight 1561 as it was descending toward San Francisco. He was screaming and then began pounding on the cockpit door.
Within moments Sunday, a flight attendant tackled Rageh Almurisi 28, of Vallejo, Calif., has no clear or known
Federal agents are investigating Almurisi's background. He was carrying a Yemeni passport and a California identification card, authorities said.

Yemen, a nation at the southern tip of the Arabian peninsula, has been a focus of U.S. officials because one of the most active branches of al-Qaida operates in the remote part of the country.
Almurisi went toward the cockpit door 30 minutes before the flight from Chicago was supposed to land on Sunday night, San Francisco airport police Sgt. Michael Rodriguez said. Almurisi was yelling unintelligibly as he brushed past a flight attendant.
Marty, 35, recalled that she and other passengers on the plane were stunned when they saw Almurisi walking down the aisle. She said a woman in a row across from her who speaks Arabic translated that Almurisi said "God is Great!" in Arabic.
Andrew Wai, another passenger, told KGO-TV on Monday that the wife of one of the men who took Almurisi down later said Almurisi was yelling "Allahu Akbar."
"There was no question in everybody's mind that he was going to do something," Marty said.
A male flight attendant tackled Almurisi, and other crew members and passengers, including a retired Secret Service agent and a retired San Mateo police officer, helped subdue him as he banged on the door, police said. The flight attendant put plastic handcuffs on him.
"Everybody was fixated on him," Marty said. "You never think that something like that would happen in your life."
Wai also said Almurisi appeared "fidgety" in his seat when he saw him on the way to the bathroom earlier in the flight.
The Boeing 737 carrying 162 people landed safely at 9:10 p.m. Almurisi was placed into police custody, as some passengers cried.
"Flight attendants were trying to soothe different passengers," Wai said. "We were all looking at our lives flash before our eyes."
Federal authorities took Almurisi into custody Monday morning after he spent the night at the San Mateo County jail, said San Mateo County Chief Deputy District Attorney Karen Guidotti. Almurisi was being held on suspicion of interfering with a flight crew, a federal offense, according to authorities.

THAT's LIFE... Sharia

Postby Janadele » Mon May 09, 2011 11:55 pm

Erick Stakelbeck new book, The Terrorist Next Door: How the Government is Deceiving You About the Islamist Threat.
Americans—lulled into the illusion of safety by Osama bin Laden's death—need a wake-up call. Erick reveals how the list of jihadist plotters within US borders is growing. And his courageous on-the-ground investigative work in Muslim enclaves and mosques covers every corner of US.

"Jihad doesn't just threaten Washington, D.C., New York, and other metropolitan areas," says Erick.
"It's spreading across the South and the heartland. Radical Islam's virulently anti-American, anti-Western virus has infected a swelling army of homegrown jihadist wannabes—not just the sons and daughters of Muslim refugees, but also white suburban women, ethnic gang members, and alienated geeks."

How does Erick know all this? Because he has done the politically incorrect, invaluable reporting that the rest of the "mainstream media" can't or won't do. Traveled the world to interview terrorists who are plotting the establishment of a global Islamic caliphate—and who have succeeded in Islamicizing large swaths of Europe. He has investigated fifth column organizations on US soil that pledge allegiance to sharia law.

Later this year, America will mark the tenth anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. Remembrance is worthless without resolve. And resolve is useless without recognition. We can't know our enemies, let alone defeat them, with our heads buried in the sand. The first step every American must make to combat the radical tide of jihad is to get angry, get active, get informed
