Boy when you want to listen to news, it is so hard to find something on the net longer than a minute! I don't have a TV so I am frustrated. :-w

I'm getting the broadcast now on USTREAM

http://www.ustream.tv/channel/nhk-world ... um=7497266" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I blew up my tell-a-vision back in 1999. I inherited a new one last year, but havn't bothered to get any broadcast stations. If something important happens that affects me, someone usually tells me about it, but with the internet, I've usually heard and know more about it than they do.

About the only predictable thing about this whole event is the over-the-top reactions around the world to it. As expected, there is now a run on potassium iodine

http://www.physorg.com/news/2011-03-fin ... clear.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I don't know about local stores of this pill how I can tell you that my daughter works in a Utah pharmacy and sure enough they were flooded today with requests that they cannot fulfill. I have heard that Internet sources for this stuff has been short on it for some time but haven't been able to confirm it.

We would be wise to prudently check the sources of those on all sides of the nuclear power issue when evaluating news coming out. If you go to Huffington Post, you'll read a much more dire report of the dangers of current events --

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/03/1 ... 35712.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

...than you will at, say, CNN.com -- http://www.cnn.com/2011/HEALTH/03/14/ja ... tml?hpt=T1" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Also, there seems to be a lot of confusion on the term "meltdown" and what the actually means. In addition, the "worst case scenario" as many keep trying to point out, would be like Chernobyl. Unfortunately, there are not a lot of parallels between Japan and Chernobyl of 25 years ago because the Russians didn't even have containment on their reactor core.

Also, the ultimate evaluation of "fallout", exposure to radiation and even deaths and sicknesses caused by Chernobyl remain debatable to this day with wide-ranging estimates of just how bad it was and how many people it affected. See this:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chernobyl_disaster" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

In a word, politics is as big a part of this discussion and how it is presented as are facts -- and facts are what we need.

I certainly feel the biggest "hit" from this will be in Japan itself.

Odds of us getting a good dose of radiation are pretty slim......and 99% of Japan would be toast prior.
If the nuclear plants that are currently experiencing phase 1 of a meltdown do melt down and release quantities of radiation, trade winds will carry the fallout to the west coast of the U.S. and eventually over the western portion of the country. The only question is how much radiation would we get and how dangerous will it be for us? Well, these charts should help clear some things up a little:

By the way, these images are from hoax source material. So many, many online venues are using it as credible information, especially sites hawking potassium iodine tablets and other nuclear survival gear, adding to the hysteria.

See this: http://www.blogotariat.com/node/211958" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
See this: http://www.theweatherspace.com/news/TWS ... image.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

In no way am I trying to say there aren't grave concerns with the nuclear issues in Japan at this hour. I'm just trying to point out that we need to collect our information carefully.

I would love to help you, and would invite you over to my house to watch the news, but dudes, you're a long ways away from Chitown.

Is there anything else I can do?

Thank you for the heads up - I actually read the same thing late last night and was going to mention it here. My Father is very knowledgeable when it comes to science and is not concerned about the fallout causing a problem for us here in the U.S - his position is that any fallout/radioactivity would dilute and dissipate on its 5,000 mile journey over here to the point of not having to worry about staying indoors, taking iodine tablets or getting radiation poisoning. So yes, the first chart is probably inaccurate, however, the one RE the direction of travel for the fallout is accurate - trade and jet stream winds would bring some of it our way - just not in any kind of lethal dose. :)

I agree. What I hope will happen - and what worries me the most -- is that whatever radiation is tracked is shared with the public honestly. I think technology has emerged since the 40 years have passed since the construction of these power plants that we are in a position now to know more than ever just what the true dangers are. I fear that information will be supressed that would preclude the public from knowing the truth and will thus be swayed from making informed decisions in the future. It is amazing to me how one side of the argument uses a crisis to advance their agenda through superlatives that no one can really define like "meltdown". It sounds awful but nobody really knows what that means.

True, but considering the likelihood of a severe aftershock under critical conditions, it seems wise to get you’re mitts on a supply YESTERDAY!

Of course, you can always look on a search engine for other suppliers. And frankly, I would be looking for a local source, as the best time to start taking it is BEFORE exposure. Considering it might only take 36 hours for radiation to arrive in the U.S., that doesn’t leave a lot of time considering governments have a history of covering up, so it might not be a bad idea to get some TOMORROW.
Well, here we go -- the mass over-reaction has now made availability of these pills almost impossible to find...and I wonder what happens now to people who will REALLY need them? Look at the panic out there:

Better to be sorry than safe is my mantra. :ymblushing:

....imagine how ignorant it is to be prepared with food storage and medical supplies (including iodine) when the time comes where we will see the fulfillment of the the wise prophetic counsel to store necessities. I am going out on a limb to say that we will see a purpose in storing them. If not today, perhaps tommorrow. I mean that literally.

Unfortunately once these radioactive particles land in the ocean and on the ground they will begin working their way into the ecosystem and food supply.
