Poor Marriner S. Eccles

Post by Silver »

This guy was a member of the Church and became the head of the Federal Reserve System. He betrayed his country in many ways, one of which was by supporting the economic policies of John Maynard Keynes. He was called out for his love of socialism.

The First Presidency, consisting of Heber J. Grant, J. Reuben Clark and David O. McKay, sent him a long letter which included their strong anti-war sentiments. The traitor responded, through a 3rd party, as follows:

"January 30, 1942

Dear Mr. Houghteling:

I trust you will pardon this late acknowledgment of your brief note of December 10 with which you enclosed a copy of the letter from the First Presidency of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints to Mr. FitzGibbon relating to the Defense Savings campaign.

Your note reached me just as I was leaving for a brief Christmas vacation and upon my return there has been so much pressing business that I have only recently gotten around to reading the enclosure you sent me. As you can surmise, I found it every bit as unenlightened as I had expected.

Thanking you again for your courtesy in this matter, and with kind regards,

Sincerely yours,

M. S. Eccles" (close quote)

Most of us who have appreciated the opportunity to read the pages of correspondence on all this, especially the October 1941 letter signed by Presidents Grant, Clark, and McKay to Mr. Fitzgibbon at the U.S. Treasury, owe thanks to Connor Boyack, who in late 2007 of early 2008 ferreted out copies of the letters from archives at the U of U. I certainly am glad to have read it.

Right. That's how I was able to read the letters.

Just don't forget that even though the First Presidency was writing/warning us clearly back then, a majority of the Saints in UT voted for Roosevelt, another traitor like Trump.
