Automatic recall: founders solution to Senate term limits

I just found out that our founding fathers had a marvellous and inspired solution to what some today would call term limits. However the 17th amendment stripped out the option for "automatic recall". Each senator was subject to automatic recall if he was not performing his duties correctly. How many of you would like to fire your senator due to dereliction of duty today?
