Naturalization Act of 1790

Post by digdug75 »

I have been doing research on numerous subjects. My current three subjects are socialism vs capitalism how the combining of both created corporatism. Which liberals seem to be fighting corporatism now. The very thing they have created. My other research involves different muslim sects and their different beliefs. The last is Bernie sanders claims to constitution being partially based on racist principles.

I have question for any constitutional scholars in this forum. I have read the history of the 3/5ths law and I understand that not all slaves were black and even according to the 1790 censuses there were at least 59k free blacks. I get the fact that the country had just finish a war and were not prepared to go to another war over slavery issue. I Have read the facts from the federalist regarding this issue and left satisfied with reasoning behind that law. This is were I am currently stuck. The naturalization act of 1790. According to the Declaration of Independence all men is used and was not subject to color of skin at all. Yet in Naturalization act It plainly states "white". I understand it was being changed that same year and implemented in 1795 act. still has the white written in the act. I am having some what of a difficult time researching the writer of the act and supporters of the act. Though couldn't George Washington veto the act? I am sure I must be missing something why create a 3/5ths law then turn around a say only white men with good morals basically be able to vote? Can somebody direct me to a site that can answer this question or is anybody able to clarify for me?
