Thanksgiving Proclamation

New York, 3 October 1789

By the President of the United States of America, a Proclamation.

Whereas it is the duty of all Nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey his will, to be grateful for his benefits, and humbly to implore his protection and favor-- and whereas both Houses of Congress have by their joint Committee requested me to recommend to the People of the United States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many signal favors of Almighty God especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness.

Now therefore I do recommend and assign Thursday the 26th day of November next to be devoted by the People of these States to the service of that great and glorious Being, who is the beneficent Author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be-- That we may then all unite in rendering unto him our sincere and humble thanks--for his kind care and protection of the People of this Country previous to their becoming a Nation--for the signal and manifold mercies, and the favorable interpositions of his Providence which we experienced in the course and conclusion of the late war--for the great degree of tranquility, union, and plenty, which we have since enjoyed--for the peaceable and rational manner, in which we have been enabled to establish constitutions of government for our safety and happiness, and particularly the national One now lately instituted--for the civil and religious liberty with which we are blessed; and the means we have of acquiring and diffusing useful knowledge; and in general for all the great and various favors which he hath been pleased to confer upon us.

and also that we may then unite in most humbly offering our prayers and supplications to the great Lord and Ruler of Nations and beseech him to pardon our national and other transgressions-- to enable us all, whether in public or private stations, to perform our several and relative duties properly and punctually--to render our national government a blessing to all the people, by constantly being a Government of wise, just, and constitutional laws, discreetly and faithfully executed and obeyed--to protect and guide all Sovereigns and Nations (especially such as have shewn kindness unto us) and to bless them with good government, peace, and concord--To promote the knowledge and practice of true religion and virtue, and the increase of science among them and us--and generally to grant unto all Mankind such a degree of temporal prosperity as he alone knows to be best.

Given under my hand at the City of New York the third day of October in the year of our Lord 1789.

Go: Washington

Share it with those who have no idea that the Founders of our Nation - not only Believed in Almighty God - but fully acknowledged the LORD's influence in establishing "a form of government for their safety and happiness."

It appears we are a 'fallen nation'.

Ah yes a nation to establish wise and just laws.

The "Ordinances of Justice" and to be wise about them.

Truly as the joint committee of Congress established this holiday for reflection of the blessings of God and to seek them for all, Senator Orrin Hatch of Ephraim (of the Republican party), Senator Ron Wyden of Judah (of the Democratic party), together surely can be talked to about amending the tax code to where wealthy individuals who have excess homes should be able to donate those homes directly to the poor and needy among us without penalty, but a deduction instead, for so doing, nor the poor and needy among us penalized, for so receiving.

Yes these two serve on the Joint Committee of Congress for review and amending the tax code.

If you live in Utah or Oregon please contact these represenatives of yours and plead with them to consider so doing and manifest some wisdom and intelligence in establishing the "Ordinances of Justice". ♡ :)

PLEASE! Copy & paste George Washington's Thanksgiving Proclamation to your emails & FACEBOOK Pages!

I was NEVER taught in my years & years of public & university education, that George Washington made this declaration because:

"both Houses of Congress have by their joint Committee requested me to recommend to the People of the United States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many signal favors of Almighty God especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness."

HAPPY THANKSGIVING, ALL!!!

Time for us again to recall WHO proclaimed a Day of Thanksgiving for this Nation and WHY..."to be devoted by the People of these States to the service of that great and glorious Being, who is the beneficent Author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be-- That we may then all unite in rendering unto him our sincere and humble thanks"!

As a direct descendant of 14 generations later from Chief Massasoit who sat at that first Thanksgiving feast, thanks again buffalo_girl for posting that reminder again, I truly am thankful to our father in heaven, who asks of us all to unite in "thanksgiving", and "do good".♡

May you all enjoy this time of a "Happy Thanksgiving" with family and friends.♡

If we are to talk about Geo. Washington, I think it best to talk about his proclamation as above.
And spread the word about what the holiday is really all about.

David13,

So what do you see as the duty of this nation, to God, to do his will, and be grateful?

Would love to hear your thoughts, and the thoughts of others.♡

George Washington's Thanksgiving Proclamation
Issued by President George Washington, at the request of Congress, on October 3, 1789

By the President of the United States of America, a Proclamation.

Whereas it is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for His benefits, and humbly to implore His protection and favor; and—Whereas both Houses of Congress have, by their joint committee, requested me “to recommend to the people of the United States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer, to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many and signal favors of Almighty God, especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness:”

Now, therefore, I do recommend and assign Thursday, the 26th day of November next, to be devoted by the people of these States to the service of that great and glorious Being who is the beneficent author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be; that we may then all unite in rendering unto Him our sincere and humble thanks for His kind care and protection of the people of this country previous to their becoming a nation; for the signal and manifold mercies and the favor, able interposition of His providence in the course and conclusion of the late war; for the great degree of tranquility, union, and plenty which we have since enjoyed; for the peaceable and rational manner in which we have been enabled to establish constitutions of government for our safety and happiness, and particularly the national one now lately instituted; for the civil and religious liberty with which we are blessed, and the means we have of acquiring and diffusing useful knowledge; and, in general, for all the great and various favors which He has been pleased to confer upon us.

And also that we may then unite in most humbly offering our prayers and supplications to the great Lord and Ruler of Nations, and beseech Him to pardon our national and other transgressions; to enable us all, whether in public or private stations, to perform our several and relative duties properly and punctually; to render our National Government a blessing to all the people by constantly being a Government of wise, just, and constitutional laws, discreetly and faithfully executed and obeyed; to protect and guide all sovereigns and nations (especially such as have shown kindness to us), and to bless them with good governments, peace, and concord; to promote the knowledge and practice of true religion and virtue, and the increase of science among them and us; and, generally, to grant unto all mankind such a degree of temporal prosperity as He alone knows to be best.

Given under my hand at the City of New York the third day of October in the year of our Lord 1789.

Go. Washington

Since, according to George Washington, the People of the United Sates were afforded an opportunity to establish a form of government for our safety and happiness, shouldn't we be affording all Nations the same opportunity by 'acknowledging - with grateful hearts - the providence of Almighty God' and by living His LAW as a light for others to follow?

Thank you, for posting it1 How many of us still believe our Founding Fathers were deists, at best, and certainly NOT practicing Christians.

We were told by an adult speaker in Sacrament Meeting today about the 'pioneers' who celebrated the first Thanksgiving.

Get the word out, folks!
