Another sewing machine question

Are machines sold at chain stores of the same quality as those sold by dealers?

I'm not a woman, but my wife knows a lot about sewing if you have questions. PM me with questions and I'll get her to respond.

I think it depends on how much you plan to use it. My friend has a business she sews for daily and invested a lot of money in her dealer machine (I don't remember the brand). I sew the occasional merit badge and toddler outfit so my Kenmore I got on sale 10 years ago has worked fine for me.

I didn't really answer your question. No, I have heard the quality is different but have only had experience with chain store models.

I was more less just curious, as my machine is a 1960something Singer 928K, so most definitely not a recent or current model. The only issue I'm currently having is finding some of the "fashion discs" used for stitches other than straight.
