Genesis 5:
32 And Noah was five hundred years old: and Noah begat Shem, Ham, and Japheth.
Genesis 9:
18 And the sons of Noah, that went forth of the ark, were Shem, and Ham, and Japheth: and Ham is the father of Canaan.
19 These are the three sons of Noah: and of them was the whole earth overspread.
Ham's posterity was cursed to be a servant of servants unto his brethren; hence, slavery. Shem was given the foremost blessing and it can be seen that his posterity would later become the House of Israel. Too, it shall be shown through scriptural evidence that Shem was Melchizedek. Japheth's posterity became the "Gentile" nations that would be "adopted" into the house of Shem. These blessings have been and are being realized this day. There are other such "guiding" blessings contained in scripture effecting other "peoples."Genesis 9:
25 And he said, Cursed be Canaan; a servant of servants shall he be unto his brethren.
26 And he said, Blessed be the Lord God of Shem; and Canaan shall be his servant.
27 God shall enlarge Japheth, and he shall dwell in the tents of Shem; and Canaan shall be his servant.
Shem, as Melchizedek:
Doctrine and Covenants 138:
11 As I pondered over these things which are written, the eyes of my understanding were opened, and the Spirit of the Lord rested upon me, and I saw the hosts of the dead, both small and great.

Shem
Name. Son of Noah (Gen. 5:29–32; 6:10; 7:13; 8:16; 9:26; Moses 8:12); his descendants (Gen. 10:21–31; 11:10–32; 1 Chr. 1:17; Luke 3:36). Shem was the traditional ancestor of the Shemitic or Semitic races, a group of kindred nations, which includes the Arabs, the Hebrews and Phoenicians, the Arameans or Syrians, the Babylonians and Assyrians. The languages spoken by these various nations were closely related and were known as the Semitic languages. In latter-day revelation Shem is referred to as “the great high priest” (D&C 138:41).
